i've been watching SNL since it began. i recently bought the box set of the COMPLETE first 5 seasons, and have gotten to see a lot of sketches and music performances that were edited out for the syndication versions. stuff that hasn't been seen since the original run. it's a great trip to the past and i highly recommend it. other SNL seasons are available as only "best of the year..." or "best of cast member..." compilations. having the complete first five seasons is a real treasure.
My wife and I are rewatching Community. After each episode we listen to the commentary. They often talk about how completely disconnected and oblivious Chevy was. Luckily for him he'll never listen to the commentary because some of it is not very nice. I still think he was a very funny guy if he had the right vehicle for his type of comedy.
Remember when presidents understood that SNL always makes fun of the president and they considered it an honor and they could laugh at themselves and they didn’t go on social media to cry about it and try to get the show canceled for imitating them? Remember all the presidents we’ve had that weren’t giant cry babies?
@@jedijones I guess the nature of the lampooning would have to depend on how each individual president acts in real life. A vile horrible person is probably going to come off that way in satire form as well. I don’t think it can really be considered hateful or smearing someone if you’re just acting like they do. Maybe if he didn’t like their sketches he should have changed his behavior. Are you this upset when he smears everyone else with his slurs and stupid nicknames? Chevy must have been talking about Suzanne, who he was married to for nearly 2 years. She was quite the looker back in '73. His career didn't suffer for leaving SNL.
He left in 76. If the story is to be believed, it is about Jaqueline Carlin, 1976-1980. But I suspect he left cause of all the movie roles he was getting.
Chevy is always hilarious. Even in Community, he was my favorite character. It's sad to hear he was trying to get himself fired off the show. It is also sad that he had some heart thing recently.
The wife that he mentioned was actually in some first season SNL skits, as an extra really. Some might remember the faux tv commercial for the "New Dad" insurance policy, where Dan Aykroyd plays the husband/dad who dies and Chevy steps right in thanks to the ins. policy as New Dad, getting really cozy and intimate with Dan's wife on the couch. The wife in the skit is played by that woman who would actually become Chevy's wife.

I always thought …Dan Ackroyd was funnier than Chevy Chase… that’s with Mr Chase’s late night show bombed in the early 90’s he’s not funny… Mr Ackeroyd would have been a better fit for a late night show
Knowing how egotistical and full of himself he is I have a feeling he is lying about leaving for a girl and the real reasons are much more embarrassing than that which crushes his ego.
The general story is that he was so mean and abu*ive that he was taken off, despite his general popularly. For the same reason, he was allegedly eventually banned by Lorne from reappearing on the show as a guest
Of all the overtly pompous, egotistical people in Hollywood, Chevy is my favorite by far.
He's the only one who makes it look genuinely fashionable. 💎
He's not NEARLY as bad as made out to be.
@@markwegner6821is that why no one wants to work with him
Poor Chevy all he wanted to do was be as cool as Dan Akroyd
My heart dropped after seeing this video pop-up. Apparently, Chevy is still with us.
Right?! This TH-cam channel is often a source of celebrity death news to me
Be patient.
Too bad. He hasn't been funny in about 35 years and was an ass long before
Only his career died.
Great clip of Chevy and Dave, thanks!

How much?
@@maliant16 a little over $300,so about 60 bucks a season. sounds like a lot but it's 106 full episodes plus a lot of bonus stuff.

The old box sets of the first five can be had for $10 a season. It's the golden age of used DVD's!
@@WilliamHerlihy-p4g they're getting hard to find individually. that's why i went for the full set. came with a nice booklet and bonuses too.

does paul get enough credit for us loving the show?
Can anyone guess why Paul played “Michelle”?

How do you do?
Chevy didn’t like Ford? Sounds like a car show
When asked about Ford....
Chevy said,'" Don't get Me started."
I never realized how big Chevy Chase's hands were.
Hes 6 4
You're right-they are massive!
Looks like Chaney and sounds like Rumsfeld
Chevy's far from the first humorist who's both funny and repellent. Being Chevy is now his brand

It's one of the great unsolved mysteries of the universe.
@@briantrash - Stupid universe.
Chevy clearly used an expletive at that moment.

But I guess that whatever Chevy said was removed.
Because
I always figured he left because he was almost 10 years older than the others, so he didn’t have as much time to move up the ladder as they did.
I wonder why Dave let him off so easily with his clear fabrication.
Chevy Chase always struck me as being an A-hole, but he was kind of amusing here even though he was rambling.

Because Chevy loves working with people and everyone loves working with him, it's too much enjoyment.
