"Screw the Warbonnets, these are the best things in the world! In fact, they're _SO_ good, that I'ma put them _right_ here"! That was my favorite part, especially how they ended up in D tier despite you talking about how good they were, lol.
@Boise Subdivision & North Carolina’s Joint Line of course, I won't forget about them. I don't know the exact number BNSF has, but they do have a lot of them, because the GEVOS were SO reliable enough to have every class I railroad to order these
Great video! My favorites are the B40-8W and C40-8W. When the ATSF used to run them a lot, they looked great at 70 mph pulling piggyback and intermodal trains. Also, their Leslie RS3L's are to die for. Also, in my opinion, they're underrated compared to the future GE's simply because the Dash 8 pioneered the GE Wide Cab which is now the standard. Watching them on train videos (mostly "Santa Fe Mainline Memories) is what got me hooked on to them. I've also nicknamed them the "Great 8's."
5:01 the hell? That looks like a gp40 sneezed it's cab smaller and painte it's windshield. Also the rage about the GEVOs made me laugh especially when the train horn came out
Very nice! BNSF's Fakebonnets and their own H1 units are very nice, and BN SD40-2 are pretty cool too. But if it's anything ATSF from the super fleet, hands down. I'm all about ATSF itself and it's super fleet. Like the tier list, I LOVE the B and C40-8Ws, along with ATSF's 600 Series Dash 9s. Love those locomotives.
Love the video, I agree with you on the GEVOS, I swear I am seeing them too much cause everyday I can see or hear at least 5 passing by my house for the whole week besides a duo of ACe's from BNSF
And about your Gevo rant: Remember this, back in the day people were saying the same exact thing about the SD40-2’s. “Everywhere and boring”. Now people are saying the same thing about the Gevo’s and the SD40-2’s are rare engines everyone tries to catch. One day the Gevo’s will join the same category the SD40-2’s are in and you will be happy that you documented them.
I am a BNSF fan although I live in Tasmania , Australia .. My all time favourite has to be the SD40-2..we have some here in Australia too . I LOVE the SD 70 ACe.. much prefer them to the Gevo's .. Also have a soft spot for the GP40's from way back ...Many you mention I don't know a lot about ..Many of our own locomotives are built by EMD too . The best sounding of the older diesel electrics are the EMD 645s...pure sound if ever there was .. Great vid , thanks..
Well, I’ve seen some BNSF GEVOs on the Union Pacific, and there’s 1 reason why they’re my favorites. Because of their K5HLs. And I appreciate your opinion on GEVOs. Most of the GEVOs I’ve seen in my area are the ones of Union Pacific, but I’ve seen some BNSF ones show up as Foreign Power.
As someone who is new to the world of railways and railfanning I'm kinda blown away on how much some people know here. I come from the world of aviation so i don't know much about trains and locomotives. My favourite train is probably the EC44C4 ( totally not because theres a game called train sim world 3 that kinda got me into this rail stuff ) Also being from the UK i quite like the class 195, class 801s and my favourite class 390 pendilinos!
Honestly, I love GEVOs and GEs in general. I love the sounds and the looks. Me personally I dont like the looks of the SD70MAC, the lack of a pronounced radiator like a GE or the ACe's is just uncanny to my monkey brain. Maybe little me watching Unstoppable on repeat to see and hear AWVR 777 has something to do with my love for anything GE
SD40-2 and SD45 go straight to the top for me regardless of paint scheme. They were so plentiful back in the 70s and 80s and led every long haul heavy freight. So many still survive because of their quality and durability. Timeless looking and before the wide cabs made everything look the same.
Just got to it and YESSS GP60M WOOOOO LES GOOO!!!! I've got a LOT of photos of specifically BNSF GP60M-3 #129 since it was part of local jobs in my town. Sadly, it's not in it's Warbonnet livery anymore since the photos are pretty recent. It's been a bit since I've seen 129 though, and I'm a little worried because it quickly became my favorite. Either way, I'd totally send you photos loll
BNSF has an entire fleet of SD70MAC's in Green and Cream livery whose primary revenue service is hauling coal from the Powder River coal mine in Wyoming.
Dam 🥲 The GEVOs are my S tier simply from their reliability, there are a lot of them but I gotta say because I see them around a lot they are a fav of mine, along with the SDF40-2s [early]. I do agree with the tier 4 variants. Srsly the tier 4 standards forced GE and EMD to make locomotives perfectly suited for no one
The bit about there being too many Gevos on the BNSF lineup is way too accurate. I see them on various NS trains over here in the east and it drives me mad (except Golden Swoosh, I got to see that engine once)
I sorta agree but as AmtrakGuy365 said in his video about why the GEVO dominates North America. "Just remember, one day the GEVO will be gone and you'll be glad you documented them."
I've only seen a warbonnet like maybe once or twice, so I'm also a sucker for those, no matter the model. Same for SD75M, although I don't hardly see them anymore. I pretty much agree with you on all of these models. (especially on the GEVO's)
Spokane has a local with exclusively GP60Ms and Bs.. one has a P3 too, so if you ever are in the area ask about the “Chewelah turn” because it is one hell of a train to see
I once saw a 5 locomotive train on the Wayzata sub, I don’t have a recording of it unfortunately, as I wasn’t expecting a train, just checking out the area. NONE OF THEM WERE GEVOs! (Gasp!) The leading locomotive was an SD70ACe in the H3 scheme, while the rest were all SD40s, the middle three were in the H1 scheme, while the last was in the BN Cascade Green.
The first time I got called for a train with an ET44 leading, I had to try not to act excited because I knew my engineer would bust my balls for it. It's apparently an unspoken rule that when you work for the railroad, you're supposed to hate it, or at least pretend like you do. The rooftop radiator fins look cool, but it looks exactly like any other GEVO on the inside.
Just from the crews I talk too here on the Thayer Subdivision, in terms of just straight up performance, both the SD70MAC and SD70ACe are by far the best locomotives on the roster! They say those locomotives will keep pulling when the others quit! Probably my favorite SD70MACs on the BNSF roster are the ones painted in predecessor Burlington Northern's "executive" green and cream scheme (these locomotives were nicknamed "Grinsteins" after then Burlington Northern president Gerald Grinstein who chose the colors). As for the C4 gevos, they're design was alot better on paper than in real world scenarios as these locomotives' weak spot was tractive effort on stiff grades with heavy trains where high adhesion is needed. Being down 2 traction motors, they were prone to wheel slip especially on wet rail! They scored high marks with crews however at high speeds with relatively light intermodal trains. Pretty cool tier list, thanks for sharing!
As a GEVO Enjoyer That rant was hilarious 😂 And true most of the paint schemes are the same Not much of a fan of the ET44’s tho the radiator looks way too big and the logo is way too small for my liking But I also love the dash 9’s & AC44’s mainly because of those beautiful H1 & H2 schemes
I can respect that you don't like the gevos because it's true that there's a majority of them on the roster for railroad's like CSX, and Norfolk Southern. They're my favorite locomotive though because I really like how powerful they are on the rails, and of course the K5HL horn that they blast at crossings.💙💛🧡
I’m not a big fan of most standard cab units to be honest, unless they’re in something other than orange. I would’ve put the BN green SD60M and the SD70MAC in S tier personally. I agree with you on the GEVO’s but the Tier IV variant would be bumped up slightly. The C4 part of the GEVO’s in general is terrible however. And I agree on the Warbonnets.
Hey. Got a ranking for another BNSF Engine model name. The SD70MACe. SD70MACes are SD70MACs that were rebuilt. There’s a small amount of SD70MACes on BNSF, and I happened to catch 1 of them on Union Pacific trackage in Idaho.
I love the WarBonet paint schemes a lot and I can agree with that. So when it comes to the funky cabs and designs of the HH20B and the others, I'd think that there OK and still will help on the railroad. But i don't trust the HH20B,because it a Hybrid and if something will go wrong for the prime movers. It can start a flame and explode potentially costing up to millions of dollars in damage. For the Gevos, also love the ES44AC's, but there one of the most common locomotives there is, witch I alright if you ask me. For the ES44CT's, not much different. Personally, I love SD40 straights, SD40-2's, SD40-3's, and SD40 R's. There is something about them that just delights me. I like the B's (as i like to call them) they but are a lot older than today's units in services, but the problem about them is that they produce a load of smoke, and some had led to runaways, derailments, and engine failure. GP's are amazing in my opinion because how compact they are and how much horse power they can produce. The AC4400's are decent and there pretty good at there job and there mileage. Personally MY favorite locomotive in the world is the SD70ACe and the DDA40X, The SD70ACe's cab design is really neat with paint scheme, and to top it off with a K5LLA. The DDA40X Is a locomotive that's made for freight and passengers with speeds that excel upon 90MPH and with to engines with a ridiculous amount of horse power. The GP-B Units are actually pretty nice and good if you think about it not with the WarBonet scheme. The Widecab Dash 8's pretty cozy on the in side from the wide cab and a great reminder that we have Santa Fe still with us to this current day. That's all I have to say, and Thank You for Your time! PS ( Its my opinion!)
9:30 GIVE ME SOMETHING OTHER THAN A GEVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ngl, I was joking around qouting AmtrakGuy's video with the gensets in-place of the chargers while watching this and lo behold i kinda guessed correctly, lol. Ok that out of the way this video is great, I absolutely loved the widecab tier part. (srry for spoliers) The gevo part is VERY true, BNSF definitely has the most gevo's out of every one of the class I's. BTW what's your opinion on the CF7?
I approve this and also like you I HATE GEVOS even on metra i see them! In yards! I get so annoyed not seeing a union pacific instead! I have same issue with CP. but id say BNSF had better horn than CP so i give credit for it
4:55 That looks to be a former GP7u rebuild into 1/3 BNSF's "RP14BD" (I can agree on how ugly it seems lmao). 5:06 WhY tHe HeLl WoUlD tHeY pAiNt ThAt iNtO tHe BlUeBoNnEt??!?!?! That's an MK1200G Rebuilt from ATSF/LAJ 2571. All three switchers mentioned were very unsuccessful and Geeps were more reliable. 9:44 The ones that are painted into H2 are also AC4400EVs #5718-5747 which are pre-produced GEVOs.
I hate the ACe nose, I've always hated it, always will hate it. As far as Geeps, there should be a special entry for remaining GP30s out there. Aside from some slugs on CSX, there isn't any Class I where you will see that very distinct cab design. Yes, I know they've since been rebuilt and given a new model designation, but that cab design is still in service, and I get a little excited every time I see one parked at Western Ave. or leading the Batavia Local.
There's a reason you see a lot more GEVOs than ACEs. Like it or not, they're just better engines. I know that's a hard pill for railfans to swallow, but if you spent your life riding them, you'd be a GE fan in no time flat. They're quiter and for the most part, they ride better. Also, almost every ACE I've been on has had that dried urine "toilet smell." I don't know if it's because of how they build the nose, but I don't get that smell as often or as intensely on the GEs by comparison. EMD was great back in my uncles day. Their older stuff was built like a tank which is why you still see them being used as yard and local power today. They really blew it with the SD50 and lost ground to GE ever since. Their fate was ultimately sealed when the Dash 9 and AC4400CW came out and comfortably outsold the SD70 series. I could go into some more technical reasons why GE is better but that would be a long discussion and I'd say you get the gist of what I'm saying.
Do you ever plan on doing the ones you didn’t do? (Leftovers such as the SD45 [Non-Turbocharged], C30-7, SF30C, SD40 [ex CN], MP15, etc.) Otherwise, this tier list is fax. (Except the B23, and NRE 3GS21Bs)
@@CameraManRailFan i grew up in a town right next to a BNSF mainline, literally a few hundred feet from my house, i would hear it almost every day, every week, the school bus path went over the tracks many times at the beginning and end of the day. the town was literally divided by rail, a great place to be a train fan, you could eat at a sonic nearby and drive only a few minutes in two directions, and still be next to the BNSF line. But i do have to disagree with you on the entire list, they are all great, and you left out early units, and 4449
"Screw the Warbonnets, these are the best things in the world! In fact, they're _SO_ good, that I'ma put them _right_ here"!

Even when I was editing this I always chuckled at that part
Please! Just ANYTHING except A GEVOOOOOOO!!!!!! HHOOOOOOONNNNNNNKKKKKKK!!!!!!!
My favorite part of this video
Same@@adventuresofamtrakcascades301
The part with the HH20B was hilarious, too
9:31 Bro had to let his anger out on GEVOS
You are right, BNSF does have a lot of GEVOS on their roster. For instance, it currently has over 700 ES44DCs and over a whopping 1000 ES44C4s
Don’t forget those Standard ES44ACs. I’ve seen them a couple times.
@Boise Subdivision & North Carolina’s Joint Line of course, I won't forget about them. I don't know the exact number BNSF has, but they do have a lot of them, because the GEVOS were SO reliable enough to have every class I railroad to order these
You forgot the bnsf es44c4
First Amtrakguy365 made a amtrak tier list then a via rail tier list
And now a bnsf fan made a bnsf tier list
What’s next a csx tier list
A1A truck locomotives: *Exist*
BNSF: *Shut up and take my money!*

Well I do love the dash 8's and a fake BN GEVO
Okay, I might be a sucker for the Gevos but the ones I prefer on the BNSF roster is the Thundercab SD70ACe, the sound was so iconic
9:32 when my friend BNSF 3815 rants about my new trains i recently got and screams in my ears saying "HOW MANY TRAINS DID YOU GET?!?!?!?!":
There is an H4 variant with BNSF 3132 in Grand Junction Colorado.
You forgot the BEEP, it was briefly owned by BNSF before being donated to the Western American Railroad Museum in Barstow.
Them AC Gevos tho🔥
SD40-2 and SD45 go straight to the top for me regardless of paint scheme. They were so plentiful back in the 70s and 80s and led every long haul heavy freight. So many still survive because of their quality and durability. Timeless looking and before the wide cabs made everything look the same.
I’m a pre 2000 GE dude:
B23-7 (ex southern) so cool
U23B’s are pretty cool too
I respect all opinions but also reserve mine.

I've only seen a warbonnet like maybe once or twice, so I'm also a sucker for those, no matter the model. Same for SD75M, although I don't hardly see them anymore. I pretty much agree with you on all of these models. (especially on the GEVO's)
Spokane has a local with exclusively GP60Ms and Bs.. one has a P3 too, so if you ever are in the area ask about the “Chewelah turn” because it is one hell of a train to see
I love the north turn! I don't get out there enough to see it lol
5:55 I really like the Horizontal headlight. It looks much better then the Vertical Headlights ( On standard cabs only ).
Agreed!
8:48 how to blow up your eardrums:

I agree

Dash 7's, sd9, sdf40-2, b40-8 (standard cab), normal sd40, sd60m, and all the geeps are s tier

That rant was hilarious 😂
And true most of the paint schemes are the same

BNSF making the 25th anniversary unit: ahh what a great "HerItAgE UnIt"

THE bnsf gevo was the first bnsf loco i EVER saw
I love a good SD70ACe
Fun fact 1205 1211 and 1200 are the only 3 bnsf locomotives that got the scrap it tier section
The only thing I think make dash8’s better with 4 axel is the fact that they are more rare. Other than 100% agree with the warbonnet tier
I love the WarBonet paint schemes a lot and I can agree with that. That's all I have to say, and Thank You for Your time!
PS ( Its my opinion!)
There is actually one thundercab on BNSF that can lead if it needed to, that is 9376.
gp30s are easy to identifie except for the rebuilds that get rid of the body would like a ranking as the is my favorite locomotive
I actually saw 7 BNSF locomotives all being gevos with one of them 1063 the third BNSF engine i saw, was the only H1 locomotive I've ever saw
9:30 GIVE ME SOMETHING OTHER THAN A GEVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the only odd gevos are when they have a different horn (example: K4HL, K5HLA, K5LLA, K3LA i got gevos with those horns) than the k5hl
Hey Cameramanrailfan One question, would you rather see a GEVO or the engines in the "Scrap it" Tier?
Hoenstly the ones in scrap, just because they're unique.
I say GEVO cause I don't know what the hell the "SCRAP IT" Tier units are even supposed to be (besides the HH20B

4:59 the slenderman of trains..
What app is this?
i made a report on the SD45 and SD40R and got an A. should i be proud?
If you got an A, absolutely!
5:01 That's the same thing it's just a B-Unit
As a BNSF dash 9. I approve this
For the other Geeps like GP38-2 and GP40-2, look at the fans in the rear. If its 2 then its a GP38-2, If theres 3 then its a GP40-2.
Us Railfanners in Colorado, We see way to many SD70ACe's
also question for u: Are widecab -8's techincally gevos or are ES/ET only gevos
Not really. GEVOs are their own thing since they were built to comply with EPA regulations, and they came over 10 years after Dash 8s
@@CameraManRailFan thanks for the explanation. It actually helps!
Honestly us railroaders don’t care for many new BNSF GEVO’s especially since they are really only 4 axle powered engines.
Gevos are awesome tho!!
Can u do the Union Pacific including the 4014 pls I love your channel
im a gevo waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
It’s august now where’s engines of BNSF?
9:33
I love the Dash 8.
Could you put the GP50 on there?
Maybe in the future I’ll revisit this to see if my opinions have changed, and if I do I’ll add these one
But i do have to disagree with you on the entire list, they are all great, and you left out early units, and 4449
9:32 I can't stop laughing 😂
There is a LOT of GP60M in cali. There is a local that runs through my town and every time I see it there is a GP60M.
Wdym we have to make a BNSF locomotive tier rist? I would just stuff all of them at S tier! They're all amazing!
My favorites are the GE Dash 9 and AC4400CW. The GEVO is ok, I just hate how much they have.
You forgotten the ac44c4m
I realized that after so I just wrote it in at the end
Compare Union Pacific locomotives next!
The only way I can identify the B40-8W and the C40-8W is from the road numbers.😅
Nice video
I still wonder who approved the nose job on the sd70ace
The GEVOs was the best part of this video 😂
