    The Galaxy S7 Active. Although this is classified as a rugged, military grade, durable phone.. Accidents can still happen. As we learned in my previous videos, the screen IS glass, and can be cracked. Batteries in cell phones dont really last much longer than 2 or 3 years with normal use... so its nice to be able to swap it out with a new batter and put an extra year or two of life into your mobile phone.
    The Galaxy S7 Active is most similar to the Galaxy S5 in design. The screen lifts up from the bottom. The nice part about the S7 though, is that you dont have to worry about the back and menue button ribbon cables. They are non existant in this device which makes a screen repair, or battery replacement or charging port swap a lot easier.
    The charging port can be replaced as well, but it is one of the last things to come out of the cell phone.

    Huge thanks for this video, great service detail! Doing a full rebuild on my S7 Active because I've enjoyed it so much and there's nothing on that market that quite matches its durability and feature set. New screen, new housing, charge port, and battery and it should be good for quite a few years yet!

      Yep, until they quit supporting it with updates. I too currently have an S7 active, as well, and I absolutely love it. Everyone is constantly like, “why don’t you upgrade”, “you need a new phone”… and I’m like, “NO THE HELL I DO NOT!!! YOU ENJOY YOUR $1,500 PIECE OF GARBAGE AND JUST KEEP MAKING THE MONTHLY NOTES ON IT UNTIL IT QUITS AND YOU HAVE TO FINANCE ANOTHER NEW PHONE… ALL THE WHILE MY S7 IS OVER HERE JUST CHUGGING RIGHT ALONG, JUST AS GOOD AS EVER AND NOT COSTING ME A SINGLE RED CENT OTHER THAN MY MONTHLY BILL FOR A CELLULAR LINE!!!”. However, I do dread the day that they stop supporting it because I’ll then have no choice but to upgrade. Also, if you don’t mind me asking, where did you find all your replacement parts that you’ve used to “rebuild” your Galaxy S7 Active? Thanks in advance and have a happy New Year!!!

      Some batteries are capable of self charging. The quicker the battery drains, the faster it will recharge itself. This is mostly applied to car batteries.

    Great work. I may have to start dissecting mine to find out what happened. It is still under warranty so, I may get lucky with just replacing it but there is some minor damage that may void the warranty.
    My issue is mine just stopped working. The batter died, I plugged it in, fell asleep, woke up and poof, nothing happened. It wont take a charge, nore will it start. The charger connection still feels tight. NEWAYS! If they deny my warranty, I will start digging in to see whats wrong.
    Great video.

  • @olivercouch1651
    @olivercouch1651 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    PS. 5:24, far left of video you forgot to plug in the noise cancelling mic - sat the board down on top of the connector. I did the same thing...
    Also, there are 12 screws counting the one under the proximity sensor, but theres only 11 holding the mid-body in. So 14 total counting the two in the charge port.

    I have had this phone for 4 years. Really interesting to see it like this, and learning that the screen is glass and plastic. It has some issues like overheating. Which if it has a hard time with that this summer I may look into a new phone. Probably going to watch so many phone reviews and teardowns this year.

    • @jsrocker248
      @jsrocker248 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      SAME! Had it since first released and previously before the S6 active and can confirm that it does overheat to the point where its hot to the touch. I had an issue with the S6 active with the charging port getting rusted with some water that apparently got inside and had to get the newer version of it. I've definitely already looked for an upgrade this year and going with the note 20 ultra. And since its been already 4 years of tech advancement, I'm really looking forward to what I have now to discover once more like I previously did with this one. To think that around the time this phone came out, it was the flagship of 2016 alongside the regular S7, time sure flies by.

    • @emmabuck1645
      @emmabuck1645 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jsrocker248 I bought the note 20 ultra as well! My s7 active has been very finicky this year. It gets hot and just slows way down to barely responding, and I need my phone for work!

  • @nolazach1641
    @nolazach1641 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This has been the best phone I've ever had as far as toughness though I got three years from my s5 active. My wife has the s8 active and i don't like the buttonless design. I also wish samsung would have kept with removable batteries.
    But this 4000mah lasts all day running waze and pandora on my work van.
    I have had charging issues lately so thinking about changing usb port. Wireless charger works, but I have metal on the back of my phone so it secures to my magnet mount better.

But I'm going to replace the screen asap and trying to fix the old one. I saw videos with very gently heating it up and then remove the digitizer with playcards! I'm curious to your results!

    The fact that display survived removal is insane. OLED panels are so damned sensitive to flex from how thin they are. Or at least my experience with Motorola units for the Moto X and Nexus 6. Is the panel in this phone a flexible unit?

    I am missing the back button on my (otherwise unscathed) s7 active, and AT&T, Samsung, and even cell phone replacement have failed to provide me a solution, or THE PART. The dang thing isn't out of warranty yet, but apparently the missing button excludes me from a free replacement. I was wondering if you knew where I could obtain the needed button? This video was the best!

    I apologize if this has been answered already. After putting everything back together I turned the phone on. No display. I then realized that the display ribbon cable wasn't seated all of the way. Doh. Double Doh. Now all I get is a brief flash of a horizontal blue line in the middle of the screen. You warned against this several times. Does this fry the screen, the motherboard, or both?
    I agree with those that say that your scripting and narration are the best.

    Jerry, excellent video really. I am wondering what is the most durable phone you have found. I am looking to buy a new phone since mine is completely destroyed and have repaired it several times. I have been using the Xiaomi Mi line, 2,3,&4c. Now I am going back to Samsung hopefully after all this and not looking back. I have repaired the flex cable, microphone replacement, screen replacement and all kinds of other small repairs on these xiaomis and I hope not to have to do any more coming into my new phone in the future. So my question stands what kind of smartphone can I get today 2017 that will last me a good 5-6 years with only having to maybe switch out batteries....I remember when a phone lasted a long time but now with the advancement of technology we have lost that durability I feel...what do you think and thank you again for your knowledge!

    Hey Jerry Rig everything i love videos on bend tests of phones! But why not tests of android tablets or iPads? I'm sure many of us have a iPad or other tablet and would like to see how durable it is with doing it themselves!! you should start with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A and iPad Mini 2(the 2 tablets i have). and then go to the more common iPad Air/pro the 2018 iPad and then a Galaxy tab S2/ Tab 4

    Hi, I am having a hard time finding an S7 Active replacement screen. I couldn't see a link on where to find one unless I missed it. Just wanted to see if you could tell me where I could purchase one. Thank you. Your videos are great.

    My s7 is also blaring an alarm sound, with a solid blue line across the screen.
    Finally just turning off even after being 100 percent charged.

    hey Jerry! Do you think I could remove the screen from my S7 Active without damaging it?
    Like many others, my back button has fallen off this phone (so much for durable). Anyway I ordered a replacement back button, but I can't put it into the slot due to it having flanged pieces that are meant to sit under the screen assembly. Therefore, I believe I need to lift the screen to place the button into place.
    So again my question is this: do you think I can lift my screen up without damaging it (i.e. is your example only breaking because it's already broken? My screen is not cracked or broken). Thanks!!!

      You’ll have to use a heat gun around the edges to soften the adhesive and work the glass screen up and away from the frame and then you should be able to slip the new button in its place. Search TH-cam for “screen removal without cracking” and most every device will be the same principle but just be careful and do not torque the screen and you should be golden.

    Do you need to do anything fancy with sealing these waterproof phones or would the new screen come with the waterproof adhesive already applied?

    I was wondering, what happened to the sim card (Memory card) tray removal. But, you slyly sorted it at 3.30
    You tend to have the habbit, of rushing past it and then remembering. 😂

    Can you do a durability test one the samsung galaxy s5 active. Three of my relatives own them and they bought them because they were so cheap back then. I want to see how well it can hold up against your test. By the way I just purchased a s8 active myself and it is awesome.

    I bought one of these, new in box, for $99 shipped. I prefer smaller phones with a good sized battery, and since I only use my smartphone for web based stuff, texting, and calling, I don't need the latest software.

    Okay, so you know the plastic bumper that is around the phone? Well mine came loose in the upper left hand corner, and is also loose above the activity zone key. Is my phone still water proof? I don't want to dunk it in and find out it's not, and I also don't want to rip the bumper off just to fin out it isn't, and I can't put it back on. Your response will really help.
