Some people may have issues loading 7 rounds into a Beretta 1301 magazine tube and the reason can be one of two things.
1. Your rounds are too long; Unfired shell lengths anywhere from 2.155" to 2.450" for 2.75in shells and 2.405" to 2.760" for 3in shells is considered in spec. Note that the shortest in spec unfired 3" fold crimp shell is equivalent to the max length of an unfired in spec 2.75in shell fold crimp shell. The roll crimp shells are likely the reason why you won't be able to fit 7rds into the magazine tube as it is somewhat mimicking shorter 3" shells. The fired hull lengths is what determines whether a shell is a 2 3/4 or 3 inch shell.
For more information about lengths of ammo for 12ga, see page 20 of the SAAMI specifications saami.org/wp-c...
SAAMI specs below -
2 3/4" cartridges is -
2.405" (tolerance -0.25") folded (star)
2.45" (tolerance -0.25") rolled
2.760" (tolerance - 0.100") uncrimped (fired)
3" cartridges is -
2.655" (tolerance -0.25") folded (star)
2.760" (tolerance -0.25") rolled
3.010" (tolerance -0.100") uncrimped (fired)
2. You have the "Cap for Cross Magazine Tube 1301/A400/A391 12 Ga" in the magazine tube. Remove it as it's not necessary. All this plastic spring cap does is prevent the spring from flying into your face or eyeballs when removing the end cap; well that and reduces the amount of space inside the magazine tube. Reinstall either your aluminum Nordic end cap (or other brand) or the new "Gen 3" plastic shroud/cap/cover without the spring cap. Just be aware that future disassembly will result in the spring "springing" out and hold onto the cap otherwise the cap will be launched into the air.

Beretta part #C59944
Thanks for making this video. Just learned about this yesterday. Didn’t realize it wasn’t a required part.
Dude. Short. Sweet. To the point exactly what I was trying to figure out thank you so much you are a legend
Worked like a charm, thank you! This has been annoying me for a while now.
Wow wtf. Strange. Immediate fix. Thanks bro.
How do you remove the "reducer"? My 1301 can only load 2 shells in the magazine (and 1 in the chamber)> The owners manual says a reducer is installed at the factory because if you want to hunt with it federal law says you can't load more than 2 shells. The manaual also says if you remove the reducer - you can add 2 more shells. I am new to firearms ... anybody know where this thing is? Thanks in advance.
Once you remove the cap, remove part C59940, (it's a plastic rod with a flared end) by removing the spring and then tilting the shotgun muzzle down until the reducer comes out. The reducer sometimes gets stuck in the spring so when you remove the spring, the reducer also comes out with it.
@@Evintos Thanks you so much Evintos - will do it.
Wow - can't believe it was that simple. My 1301 came with 2 of those "reducers". The one that was in the case was about 8 inches long (not sure why you would need this unless you wanted to use the gun as a club and hit somebody over the head with it) The one that was installed in the gun was about 6 inches long. I took the cap off and the "reducer" was immediately visible. Took it out and put everything back together. I can now load 5 shells in the magazine (instead of 2) and 1 manual load into the chamber for a total of 6 now. Thank you so much. I can't tell you how annoying that was. I spent almost $1600. for the same amount of fire power as a double barrel? WTF? I think my local store assumes everyone knows everything about every firearm made smh .... They are good people for the most part (so I am not going to mention their names) but, I will be asking a lot more questions in the future. Bro - thank-you so much again.
You Rock. Just took it out and got 7 shells. Woohooooo
At first I had trouble loading 7 rds of Spain made Rio 2 3/4 buckshot even after removing the spring retention cap and was only able to load 6 in the mag tube.I suspected those shells were longer than the standard size. After calling a Beretta authorized armorer they told me those shells were made for the American market which the 1301 was made to Euro spec ammo since it was manufactured in Italy which is alot shorter than American specs. Found some Federal bulk birdshot in my garage and set the shells standing next to each other. The American spec ammo was considerably shorter than Euro spec 2 3/4” shells. Now I get 7”+1+1 with the euro spec ammo or maybe the Federal is just a standard spec because I’m pretty sure it’s manufactured in the USA.
Okay I think I found the problem then. I think I can only fit 6 because in using 3in shells instead of 2 3/4 inch. I have a 1301 by Langdon Tactical Technologies. I just took mine apart and there was no black cap. The spring shot out freely so, like I was sayin - I think the issue is just that I'm using larger shells.
The best thing you can possibly do is completely understand your shotguns operation and handling, Take some classes and get out and shoot. It’s better to have a thousand rounds of practice and only seven rounds in your shotgun then seven rounds of practice and a thousand rounds. I know ammo is pricey.
I’m not throwing any shade your way but sanding in front of a mirror holding your shotgun isn’t going to do a damn thing for ya. Consider trying some reduced recoil flight control rounds too, at typical engagement range they will do quite well, pattern consistently and recoil less for follow up shots. Remember your responsible for every pellet that comes outta that thing. Above all congrats on the 1301! They are great defensive shotguns and your sure to have a blast with it!
Yup, those 3" shells will reduce total capacity by about 1. Some of the longer 3" Slugs will reduce total capacity by about 2. Although for those you can sometimes get away with squeezing a 2 3/4" after 5rds of the longer 3" slugs.
@@et9650 No shade taken, my friend! It just came in today so I started learning procedures and functions as soon as I can. I'm a prior service Marine, so I promise you - this beast of a shotgun is going to the range! I fully agree. Take the time to know your weapon. For me, I've never really had to use, or had the opportunity to use shotguns so they're a whole new world for me. I'm excited about learning though! Thanks again!
@@Evintos Thanks again, my friend! I really appreciate the assistance
You’re exactly right. 3” is only 6+1. 2-3/4 is 7+1 on the 1301 T
IS the spring strong enough to keep loading & keeping enough Pressure on the Lower Plug without jamming?Or should I buy a longer spring ?
The stock spring will be strong enough. Just make sure you seat the spring inside the mag follower. If you drop the follower into the mag tube and then put the spring in, you may have issues if the flat part of the spring is sitting on the edge of the follower.
@@Evintos Thanks i have already put the red gg&g follower I thought about leaving the Black plug out ,now i will redo it.Thanks for the info .
Thank you!! It worked! Thanks for the tip! Cheers!!
Removed mine today but still couldnt fit 7 of the monarch 00 buck🤷🏻
Just did a quick google search to see what kind of crimp the Monarch 00 buck has and it looks like a roll crimp which typically ends up being longer than the fold (star) crimp. Unfired shell lengths anywhere from 2.155" to 2.450" for 2.75in and 2.405" to 2.760" for 3in shells is considered in spec. Note that the shortest in spec unfired 3" fold crimp shell is equivalent to the max length of an unfired in spec 2.75in shell fold crimp shell. The roll crimp shells are likely the reason why you won't be able to fit 7rds into the magazine tube.
Something you can try is to fit a shorter fold crimp 2 3/4 and see if you have enough space to fit one in. If not, usually you can remove a roll crimp round (the Monarch 00 buck) and put in 2 fold crimp rounds. Of course now you may have an issue where the pattern of the two different type rounds have different point of impacts or shot pattern.

How did you get it off?
@@kr3w17 The spring retaining cap is just held in by friction.
So just use pliers?
@@kr3w17 There's a hole in the center of the cap that you can put a finger in and lift out. If your finger is too large, you'll need pliers.
@@Evintos Got it. Stubborn bastard! Just loaded 7. Now I need to figure out how to get 8+1. I just got this a few days ago. Thanks!

I need a tool to unscrew the dang cover in the first place. smh
(edit, for anyone else who doesnt have a strap wrench or ducktape, use both hands in a prayer like formation, with fingers interlocked, and use the base of your palms to grab both sides, worked for me)
