      The S&B #1 12 pellet doesn't cycle through the Benelli M4, and it seems its a tad longer than 2.75 inch, I can only get 4+1 in my 5+1. Pretty annoyed TBH. Thinking of getting an A300 or 1301 because of it. But any other 2.75 inch 00 or slug cycle like a dream. It's definitely the round not he gun. Any thoughts @@OreGear

    Great work as always man! Never really been a shotgun guy myself for home defense but you presented each of your arguments logically, and most importantly why you justified your decisions based on your specific situation rather than some arbitrary "standard."

    I patterned at same distances --- Federal Flight Control 00 8-pellet was the sweet spot, so hard to find these days though
    The 9th pellet in the Flight control 00 9pellet always seemed to go just outside my selected target

  • @pjoffrion

    For center mass accuracy; The #1 buck and Hornaday had clear advantages. I wouldn't worry too much about recoil being a criteria for choice. You want accuracy and effevtiveness for home defense, not comfort!

    I do have a variety of 00 and #4 Buck but I also have this other type of "defense" ammo from Winchester called Defender. It's a slug with three 00 Buck. When shooting it out of my 18.5" Mossberg 590A1, it actually gets a fairly consistent group at about 10 yds where the slug is dead center and the three 00 buck are at 12, 3 and 6 o'clock around the slug impact. It's rated at 1150 fps.

  • @User-nx7rs

    Birdshot isn't ineffective if at the right distance. A homeowner shot a home intruder at 10 feet in the leg with birdshot and since it didn't have anytime to spread it was basically a slug that hit the intruder.

  • @ReaperOperator
    @ReaperOperator ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Honestly this something I've never thought about but I probably should have. For a home defense shotgun that is. Other weapons yes you have to think about the ammunition because you don't want to over penetrate and go through your wall your neighbors wall and their neighbors wall.

    Thanks for a great video. After considering the target structures for a one trigger pull threat stop and point of impact variability, a four to twelve inch pattern of buck shot may work best. Beyond a 12 inch buck shot pattern a slug would be preferred. My ideal is an eight inch pattern at fifteen yards.

    I went with the American gunner because the group was decently tight but I think you have a point in going for the widest spread possible. It also gives you more room for error if you miss you can still land a pellet or two

  • @ReaperOperator

    Had a buddy have a negligent discharge in a house with some steel shot(#2 or 3 i think)after duck hunting. Went through a hollow core interior door and 1 layer of 1/2 drywall then stopped in exterior plywood and lap siding. Left a fist size hole. Dont under estimate the bigger birdshot at in house distance.

    Im going to check out the "Buck-Kicker” choke for my langdontactical 1301 18.5” 12GA. It is designed for 00 Buck for 2-3/4” from 0-40 yards to hit a 18” wide human torso. My defensive loadings presently are Hornady 00 buck with black aces tactical 00 buck for range duty. Then the plan is to test some warwolf loadings once they come back in-stock to use as a defesnive loading.
