I can believe that about Clint Walker. I saw his daughter interviewed years ago, and I was very impressed by her! She was not only physically very beautiful, she was extremely humble and polite with no interest in show business. She said that her father had bought her a plane because she had always been interested in flying and had given her flying lessons from a young age. This was before the airlines would hire women as pilots.
She said very humbly that she hoped one day they would hire women and that if they did, she hoped she would be one of them. There was no anger and no threats of a lawsuit as there would be today, just quiet humility. I'm guessing she works for an airline today. I was so impressed by her, I thought what a wonderful father he must have been.

Same for Steve Mcqueen-who had tantrums re the filming of The Great Escape as he did not want to appear small compared to for example James Garner whose height has always been noted as around 6ft 3. In fact the small Scottish actor who is often in scenes with S.Mc was cast partly because S.Mc felt he made him look taller, ( sorry actors name escapes me) MANY of these heights are nonsense according to other (many other) sources!

It doesn't surprise me that there are people who do not know who Audie Murphy was. I teach at the college level, and you would not believe what the average college student today does NOT know.
Early on, I learned when I walk into a classroom never to assume that the students know anything unless the subject I'm teaching happens to be directly related to their major. Even when this is the case, though, they rarely know general information outside their major since people in their teens, twenties, and thirties rarely read anymore. They are too busy playing on their phones and (with males anyway) playing video games.
You would think I was making it up if I told you some of the questions I have been asked. So it doesn't surprise me that there would be people who do not know who Audie Murphy was. Reading what this amazing hero did during World War II is almost incomprehensible to me. As I posted earlier, he should have been given two Medals of Honor.
It always annoys me to hear an athlete referred to as a hero. What has any athlete ever done that is remotely equivalent to what Audie Murphy did? I cannot imagine the degree of pride this man's parents must have felt about their son!

Leading men who were short often stood on boxes when with a tall leading lady, or the woman stood in holes or walked in trenches. Sometimes when a couple is walking straight away from the camera, you aren't seeing the leading man with the woman, but a stand-in. This was also done with good guys and bad guys.

With only a couple of exceptions, leading men HAD to appear taller than the leading lady, or every other woman, and had to be as tall as the bad guy, except when the smaller leading man was supposed to defeat a much bigger man. Leading men often stood on boxes, or leading women stood in holes or walked n trenches. Often, when full body shots were want, the leading man would have "his" back turned, and the viewer would actually be seeing a stand-in. This is rare today, but it is still done on occasion.

You should see Debra Winger. I estimate she is 4 foot 4. I saw her in person at a rally for Michael Dukakis when he ran for President in the Democrat ticket. I was there with a group of Republicans protesting the rally in Connecticut. Everybody, both Republican and Democrat, was whispering about how incredibly short she is. She was wearing six inch heels and a tall top hat in an attempt to appear tall. When she was in a movie with John Travolta who is over 6 feet tall, she had to stand on boxes next to him. In a dance scene, they had to use a stand in for her and only filmed the stand in from the rear.

Seriously, I am a 5 ' 9" woman and I towered over most of them, particularly the men. They didn't like that. We often would see up close, famous actors and tv stars( they have to eat !). It was always a surprise when you see their actual height. He was 5ft 8" (not 5ft 7") as told in this video. One of his girlfriends was Elizabeth 'Dizzy' Sheridan - and she was 5ft 10", but she said he made her feel very feminin and it felt to her, like he was taller than her. He had long legs and she used to borrow his jeans!! An ex with whom I lived with for 8 years, was 6ft 1 & a half", and I used to borrow his jeans!! I could put google heights but then I’d be wrong. It seems like Curtis must be a shortie these days, few people said they’ve seen him and he’s shorter. But I do think his peak height is at least 5’8. He was born in the 20s so I’m guessing unless she saw him over 50 years ago he would have lost height by then

1 height they got wrong, however; Orson Welles was 6'4", not 6'.
As for George Kennedy, I remember he said once that his size helped get him some of his earliest acting-gigs, by playing bad guys on "Gunsmoke." The reason being that, as he put it, "Jim Arness needed big guys to hit." (In other words, if Matt Dillon beat up _too_ small of a villain, then he'd end up looking like a big bully...)
I never knew for sure how tall Gregory Peck was, but I know his hands were *_huge._* I saw his handprints in cement at Grauman's Theater in Hollywood once & from their size, he probably could've picked up a watermelon with one hand...

Incidentally, he was deferred from the military due to a bad back.) Also, if you watch him in "Citizen Kane," you will observe that he's just a bit taller than Joseph Cotton, who was 6'2". So...that being the case, I'm going to rely upon published, verified & annotated biographies rather than a link to just another website (since the Internet is notorious for spreading false, misleading and/or inaccurate information & misinformation, after all.)
