RIP Agnes Nixon. Please say hello to Kay, James, David, Ruth, Mary, Larry, Hugh, Anne, Lynne, Louis, Matthew, Larkin, Eileen and all the others once made Pine Valley their home and left for the great beyond on our behalf. We will forever miss you all.
Every town should have a Mrytle. I miss this show and the people. Job well done Eileen Herlie, RIP.
i held it together until Zach . seeing that tall, strong man balled in a corner like a little boy and I lost it. And Thorston's poem that he wrote for Eileen was so beautiful and accurate of that incredible woman. God Bless Eileen.
That was such a touching episode for one of the best characters on the show.

yes, indeed. i hope they take a lesson from this and start to realize what we want most from a show like this ... CHARACTERS and COMMUNITY, not one ridiculous storyline after another.

Eileen Herlie was a stage and screen actress of great range and scope. She had a classical background playing Gertrude in Hamlet several times, Rebecca, and The matchmaker, before she moved into musical theatre. She was nominated for Best Performance in 1962 in Take Me Along with Jackie Gleason. The song you hear sung here, was from her 1962 hit 'All American' with Ray Bolger.
No wonder the show was canceled ; it lost its way from the core so long ago. The Great and the Least,
Rich and the Poor,
The Weak and the Strong,

In Tragedy and Triumph,

Where was Adam?
As much as I like Zach, I don’t fully understand why there was such an emphasis on his mourning in this episode. Myrtle’s dynamic with Erica, Opal, and Bianca ran far deeper. It also would have been nice if some more of Myrtle’s many boarders could have come to pay tribute. Myrtle always doted on Boyd. And Maggie adored Myrtle. It’s weird that the actors couldn’t come back for one episode.
Zach was very close to Mrytle very close as was the actor you may need tl re watch from when he came on the show until the end again
@@jaymejohnson2375 I don’t. I’ve seen his interactions with her. Erica was friends with Myrtle for decades - so was Opal. Zach considered Myrtle to be a mother figure/friend. She first helped him see how terrible Michael was and how to let that go, she counseled him on being good enough for Kendall during the arranged marriage and Kendall’s pregnancy with Spike, helped him not blame himself for his father committing the Satin Slayer murders, the Thanksgiving shenanigans etc. I stand by what I said though. Myrtle, Opal, and Bianca were portrayed as family for decades.
And even before Bianca’s sexual assault (where she spoke with Myrtle regularly instead of once every three months for sage advice like Zach) Bianca was close with Myrtle. She took her to doctor’s appointments and went for walks with her and visited her at her shop even before Bianca lived with her. The writers/directors did a much better job incorporating Opal, Erica, and Bianca’s friendships with Myrtle as organic in the day to day so of course they feel stronger. I get that the actress was getting older and that was likely why she they couldn’t do that in the same way for Zach, but my knowing why doesn’t change that their friendship wasn’t depicted with the same care. I wish that Opal, Bianca, and Erica had been the focus, that the Hubbards had been incorporated more, that Boyd, Reggie, and Maggie could’ve said goodbye even by just sending flowers, and that Zach hadn’t been such a focus.

I know that Agnes Nixon created both AMC and OLTL and from seeing interviews and just watching her you could tell AMC was her favorite.
