I had a subtotal thyroidectomy at 17 years old due to Grave's disease and you are the first doctor I have heard about this from. I found info about this on the internet myself, but none of my medical doctors ever told me this. I am in my 50s, and have taken synthetic thyroid hormones since my thyroid was removed. I am thankful that I am finally hearing doctors who know and share info about nutrition, and diet. ♥️

I had same issue total ablation procedure at 49 a year after I got diagnosed with Graves’ disease. So no thyroid gland as well. No Endocrinologist nor my primary care doctor ever spoke about this. I’m 64 at this time and finally a new Endocrinologist I have now just placed me on Selenium. I hope it works as I have not noticed any changes with taking this mineral 🤔. I eat lots of eggs, seafood and beef. I eat occasionally Brazilian nuts. I’m on 200 mcg of selenium daily.

This is very educational , informative as a lot of us aren't able to afford healthcare from specialists. I suffered from a worsening case of swelling of tyrhoids early this year, and had symptoms of what seems like hyperthyroidism ( my family member has it as well and has long passed away). At 40 ,I started taking Selenium 200mcg supplement daily and within 3 weeks, the swelling of tyrhoids in which I have always have ( but worsen early this year) settled itself. Hence now I am just maintaining it taking selenium occasionally , not daily, and I incorporated seaweed, seakelp as part of my diet. Most importantly, do seek professional consultation from trusted healthcare providers if it is affordable or accessible to you, because at the same time, there are dangers of self diagnosis. We can only do what we can , with what we can afford with the knowledge we can find that does not cost a fortune. Thank God for TH-cam. May all be safe and healthy in these challenging times.

It's in the Solaray Bio E Gamma Plex. I've been thinking about adding a very little to my mineral water formulas I've been working on. That and iodine and zinc I'm back and forth on. Thinking next will be the powdered eggs shells and ascorbic acid to make a more buffered vitamin C and safer calcium, carbonate and little phosphate source. Still debating using the ascorbic acid first.

Thank you, glad to hear seafood has it. I live in an area that is selenium deficient and I raise a good portion of my own food or source it locally. I raise dairy goats and have to inject them with selenium twice a year to prevent miscarriages, retained placentas and offspring with white muscle disease. Minerals bought from feed stores have very limited amounts by law. It recently occurred to me that I had symptoms of deficiency myself since I am sourcing my food locally so started taking a supplement but getting my dose through food is preferable. So folks who live in areas like I do and source their meat locally, might consider that there is inadequate selenium in that meat. Also to be considered is if you live in an area with selenium in the soil, you may not need to add any to your diet.

Statins for hyperthyroidism seems backwards to me because the thyroid gland is dependent upon cholesterol production, as are the kidneys and brain.
I guess I am not surprised.
I'm sure there's a logical reason why interrupting the cholesterol levels changes thyroid levels.
Like it's lowering overactive thyroid levels by starving the thyroid of cholesterol.
Prolonged use of statins has been connected with Alzheimer's because it's starving your brain. The brain needs cholesterol to replenish brain cells.
But totally makes sense that they are disrupting the thyroid with statins.
      Very interesting.

From what I can gather, Selenium and Iodine together seem to be a powerhouse against almost everything negative about our health. It's never talked about in the mainstream either, which strengthens my beliefs further. Being on the carnivore diet I think I get enough selenium, but I've recently bought some iodine to go along with it. Could be a game-changer.

I tightened my control and have now even went to every other day fasting. I loose a couple of pounds on fasting days but gain it back on eating days. I am completely at a loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ps my stall has been going on for almost 2 months and I do show to be in ketosis and by blood sugars are ranging from 80 to 105.
