There was no need to destroy the packaging ever, I have my Hero 5 Black that I just put up for sale on my desk with the box and everything in perfect condition, it could literally go back on the floor of the store and look like a new product..

Nice video! Question - did you update the camera after you got it? That will enable 4K-60 with HyperSmooth as well as fix all those crazy exposure issues when your face was pointing the camera - that was some early facial detection flaws. Give it a try!

Best review yet. I love that you compared it to the 5. Tons of reviews comparing to 6 but hardly any comparing to the 5. We were already sold on the 7 but your review just made me list my 5 for sale. Literally just now. Thanks!

3:24 Happened twice to me... Both times with Chinese soldiers demanding the footage. But I was shooting on HVX200's then (which recorded to P2 cards, but also had a tape deck) and I kept a tape in the deck - because it was early days for solid state and I didn't trust it yet - My 1st AC was quick thinking and handed them the blank tape the first time without question, they were happy and I always kept a tape in it from then on just in case. The second time I didn't think we'd be so lucky, but we were. Non camera people didn't know about the P2 cards, and most cameras then used only tape. Got the shots, saved the shoot... and I still don't know why they wanted the footage. So yes - I'd swallow the card if that's what it took...

As someone who vlogged on a session 4 for over a year, the 7 is not only good enough to vlog with but seems like it’s just a great camera in general. Can’t wait to get my hands on one of them for myself!

Picking up mine today! After reading up on everything and watching reviews it'll be the first GoPro I've ever purchased. Looks like they nailed it with this one. Also great job with the video, Matti. Your editing and composition keep getting better and better!
Great side-by-side comparison, but honestly, after I saw how stable it was on the jet ski, I was hooked. Incredible. And the audio… impressive. I've yet to "start" my channel… stalled on equipment due to an old Nikon hunting for auto focus… could this be the choice? Hmmm…
Yea that was it for me too. I always wanted to use it for snowboarding and that kinda stuff but it was way too shaky

You don’t have a cellphone? My last video was filmed using a 150 dollar gimbal and my iPhone 7. Looks pretty good if you ask me.

Just wrap the micro SD card in plastic first. Protects it from the stomach acid.
Not really been down for the hype of the GoPros but after buying a Mavic 2 Pro and seeing how buttery smooth the footage is and hearing how they changed the audio so it's not so tinny has definitely changed my outlook on them. Think I might have to invest in a new Hero 7 here pretty soon. Thanks Matti for the great comparison/review video! Amazing!

The stabilization is very good but I love a quality of video of your canon.
We own a Hero 5 Black that we use only with the Karma Grip gimbal for some special shots which works well together, as the 5 Black's stabilization alone is no near enough for usable footage. But the 7 Black is getting pretty close on its own without any gimbal, it's truly impressive for such a small camera/tool. Well done GoPro.

I have a Sony FDR3000x, which was the stabilizer king before. Any experience on which is better? This does look smooth for sure, and hyperlapse is great for vloggers moving the story from location to location.
Haven’t tried it to be honest! But would be very surprised if it was this good
It is really good...just did a vlog the other day about skeet shooting, and didn't use an external mic or anything. The sound was amazing...didn't even do any post work on audio...just like that right out of the camera. I was however a little disappointed as the sky's were dark, and I was filming in 120 so I didn't have to switch back and forth from b roll to interview, and it was grainy.
Well since the sony fdr is optical stabilization and not software based, you can run it through software stabilzation in premierre/FCP and it should be just as smooth if not smoother than the GoPro 7 still.
I think the optical stabilization of the X3000 is still better but the H7 is a big step up from H5/6
The X3000 still has better stabilization (in Active Mode you can't beat OIS), it doesn't crop as much and the bit rate is a lot better, giving you better image quality. I broke my X3000, I bought a Hero 7 Black and after 4 days of testing I'm returning it and getting another X3000.
I literally just bought one half way through your video. I used GoPro's all the time for my motorcycle channel and can't wait to try it on the way home.
Really glad you guys put this into action right away as I'm planning on a few months of travel over seas and have the Hero 4 I think this might be something for the trek. I won't be swallowing any Micro SD cards on this tour.

Yeah. End of the gimbal for sure. I still use mine with a gimbal though, cause I don't want to throw it away and it does add yet a bit more smoothness. GP7 for the win!

Great informative video! Loved it! One suggestion when comparing audio quality between two things is put an audio icon next to the footage that the audio is coming from so we know what it sounds like from the older one and newer one. Other than that amaaaaazing!
I got this see the Timewarp footage I did, very impressed with it, I’m a total amateur at filming and have never had a GoPro. Ultimate GoPro would now to increase to 100 bits per second quality and put a 1 inch sensor in for better low light. This is a great camera and I suspect saved GoPro.

Oh man, that running test around 11:00 was great! That stabilization looks solid. Though, I would have liked to see a slightly larger version with a more convenient way to include external audio (3.5mm + top mount) sources, and maybe even have the front screen an LCD that can show a live preview... Regardless, the 7 Black is tempting as-is.

Damn. The footages looks so different. The tones and clarity have are so good. The stabilization works beyond what I expected. And when you compared the audio of the two, there was also a great difference. Woah. I'd love to have a gopro. It's been so many years. I really want the hero 7 and I could visualize so many things to do with and use it for with its specs and features and it's perfect for my plans but since the hero 7's release, I could barely afford a hero 5 after so many years of saving. The difference and what I can get from the 7 is so worth the difference in price, but well I just can't.

Awesome to hear your take on the Hero 7! I have been using the Hero6 and won't get the 7 yet because all of my use is on either the Karma Grip or Karma drone (both are stabilized). I do plan on getting the 7 possibly next year after this good release so I can start using the other attachment accessories.

I don't know what it is, yet, but yours and Peters videos have involved in the sense that if feels more natural and approachable than before.

I think the review between the hero 5 and 7 was perfect. I bought the 5 twice, first one manufacture defect, second one wasn’t impressed at all and returned it. Then bought a two used hero 4 blacks to go with my one hero 4 silver. So like most, I skipped the 6. So comparing the 5 and 7 was perfect for those who don’t want to spend $900 to $1200 on a Sony RX100, or need something water proof.
