I used a Dewalt folder (yes Dewalt) for the duration of 2020. Remolded a 1970’s home, used the knife probably over 1,000 times to slice , shape , cut and pry dozens of materials . I own over 50 knives between 15$ and 500$ . I cannot imagine putting a high quality knife (or any knife valued at over 100$) through construction site abuse.. Hate to think of what would be left of a knife on bearings after a week on the job site.

    Hi David (and Seth),
My first question was answered brilliantly, so here I go again! Hope you can help me out with another one similar to my 1st question:
I'm looking for a folding knife, with the following features:
    1) Flipper (that becomes a "guard")
    2) Axis or Similar Cross-Bar Lock (**MUST** be bank-vault, bomb-proof strong)
    3) Thumb Hole, either oval or round, doesn't matter, but **MUST** have it...
    4) About 3" or more Blade Length
    5) Pointy, not Wharncliffe, but needs some belly.
    6) Optional, but would be game-winning: Full Flat Grind, finger choil, assist or bearings in the pivot and Deep Carry Pocket Clip
    7) See if you can recommend me a budget and a premium version each.
    Thanks so much!

I like Spyderco's over everything else for 2 unique reasons. I'm a housepainter so I often need a knife I can both open AND close with just one hand because the other hand is holding onto a ladder . And I can also use the thumb hole to pry open paint cans because of the way they stick out . It keeps me from being tempted to use the tip and possibly break it off.

It seems like a polished edge would be better for push cuts and a toothy edge good for slicing cuts but how does that apply to larger chopping knives? Also which type of edge is more durable assuming same sharpening angle? Thanks.

Hi DCA, I am currently looking for a full tang double edged fix blade, with a blade length of between 4" and 5" to carry as a boot/concealed defense knife. Currently, I am really liking the look of the SOG Pentagon FX Blackout Fixed Blade, but both it and the covert are outside of my price range (which is a max of about $100). Preferably any knife I carry would have a hardness of 58 HRC or higher, with Micarta handles, but I understand that's asking far too much for my price range. So, I was wondering what your recommendations would be, and why you liked them over other options.

I just got back from a camping trip to New Mexico. Stayed at Navajo Lake with some friends in a tent. I'm a professional cook by trade, so by unanimous decision I was responsible for the food prep on the trip. I brought my Sig K320 and Civivi Elementum. The Sig is a workhorse. I used it for a million things while I was there, but I have to be honest. Its extremely awkward for food prep. I actually ended up cutting myself the first night out there on the first tomato. I immediately went to the luggage and got out the Elementum. Felt much more natural, much like a paring knife. I would have a hard time telling anyone NOT to get the K320. Its probably one of the best EDC knives I've ever carried, but look elsewhere for a food prep option. If you see this, I hope this helps a little!

DCA, seeing all these new, beautiful knives come out, there are quite a few that don't offer lefty pocket clips. Do you know why so many manufacturers omit this from their designs? Also, any suggestions for pocket carry as a lefty with a right only clip? Love the videos, keep up the great work!

Thanks for your great work, I'm thinking on to buy the paramilitary 2, but the comfort of the handle that you mantion make me wander if it worth, since in Italy it costs 180€, maybe with the flytanium micarta scales.

The pm2 is fantastic, I own one and constantly switch out between my large inkosi and it. However, flytanium scales don't make the ergonomics any better for hard usage. But for EDC the pm2 is great

Hey DCA, long ago I had a Gerber bolt action knife that I really enjoyed flipping open and closed. Now I’m looking for a crossbar style lock, and had thought the Hogue Deka was going to be it. But looking through the Spyderco lineup, I see they have the Manix 2 caged ball bearing lock, and this knife doesn’t have the hideous look that many of their knives have. I’m even looking at the XL version with my larger than average hands. Can you weigh in on these for me? Thanks.

May buy myself an early Xmas gift.

Good question! I'm always interested in just that! I find a lot of Crkt's and Kershaw's to be among the most innovative. (Not to discount the Buck Paradigm or Marksman or Demco stuff)

Hey David and Crew, I have a Cold Steel Spartan (AUS-10A) and I've noticed it has been developing a few small rust spots (nothing serious). Should I force a patina on it and if so, what should I use?

Hi DCA, big fan. Long time watcher first time commenting. I am very interested in getting a Drop Point Sig Sauer Hogue K320. While I'm sure the polymer is every bit as comfortable as I've heard, I'd prefer the aluminum (AXG) scales that they revealed at Blade Show. My main question for you is, do you have any intention of making your exclusive stone wash blade K320 available in any upgraded scales like the aluminum or maybe even a Pakkawood?

For the drivers I'd recommend the iFixit Mako. 35 bucks and you get way more utility than just the torx drivers. And they're quality bits in S2 steel.

Hi! I saw that the new Spyderco Cru-wear/micarta PM2 is now coming soon and i wonder what does micarta actually feel like compared to G10 and how tough is Cru-wear? and are the parts interchangeable with other PM2 models? Thanks!

I'm wondering what you're personal favorite folder under two hundred is? Also which folder you'd recommend under 150 that has all of the following...a four finger grip, one hand deployment, thin grind geometry, any steel other than VG10, 154cm, or D2 but also has to be corrosion resistant. Cannot be a front flipper either, thanks!

Hey DCA, there are a ton of different blade shapes now for different purposes. Could you explain the best uses for common blade shapes (ie tanto, droppoint, clippoint etc) ?

Well DCA you said serious question. Forged titanium knives is a thing and titanium blades that have been carbonised on one side. I realise it doesn’t have the best edge compared to steel but I want one. There is a video of forged titanium cutting through aluminium with a press involved. Do you have any recommendations where I might get one of these.

Hey, DCA. This might seem like a stupid question at first blush (perhaps because it is a stupid question). But, besides outdoor activities such as hunting and camping and bushcraft, what are most people using their knives for? I use my kitchen knives far more than any of my fixed blades or folding knives - and I have some nice kitchen knifes - but they just aren't as much fun for me to purchase. That said, I find that I mostly use the other-than-kitchen knives that I buy to open cardboard boxes from Amazon and Knife Center that contain my next new knife! Any insights?

Serious question . So.. I purchased the zt 0450cf from a reputable online dealer. On arrival, found it to be a great looking knife, nice flipping action. But there was a distinct mechanical ping sound mid drop every time the blade closes freely. The “ping” is absent if you slow roll the blade shut.. Way too concerned,, trying to “break in” the action, ended up cutting myself. A moderate cut, back of the ring finger just below the fingernail. Extraordinary pain , swelling and redness in half the finger.. Been 3 weeks and still healing. Doctor said a *foreign contaminant*, not the cut itself, caused the unusual pain and following reaction. (Pretty serious) Missed a weeks work and pay. One handed worker for two weeks. Not blaming anyone but myself. But is this a known danger? Should we be sterilizing new blades? Any cleaning method or product you might recommend to those concerned with hand/finger preservation ? Thank you guys!
