Why not drive up onto the beach? Genuine question

They'd probably get stuck. You'd have to lower the landing gear into the water which would then dig into the muddy sand.
Getting out of water is actually really difficult if you don't have a solid ramp of some sort.
That's the reason why amphibious tanks never work too.
Getting into the water is easy in comparison.
