    Hi Zach, Andrea. With the price of new cars quickly becoming out of reach for the middle class, how about you allocate some of your content strictly for the used vehicle market? I am starting to see in my immediate circle of family, friends, and neighbors, a markedly increased interest in purchasing a used vehicle when their current lease is up. I am guessing that over the next few years there will be a huge interest globally, in gently used vehicles that have depreciated 30-50% from their MSRPs. I'm thinking that, say once a month, you could dedicate a whole episode of Questions, Coffee and Cars to answer questions about used vehicles. Just a suggestion. By the way, you guys are becoming a National Treasure for us Canadians!

    I just want to say to Zach , we gotta try to encourage folks to keep that auto stop feature enabled. I understand the frustration, I sit in traffic as well and it drives me a lil batty but listen, Jason over at engineering explained has a video that very clearly proves it’s not only effective on mpg, but also more importantly on emissions for the air we breathe. Love the channel and enjoy your content so much, I just think as westerners we have aloof of comfort, we can sacrifice in this small way ya know? My bad really not meaning to be preachy again really enjoy your content you and Andrea are naturals at this. 😊

      Yes, good for emissions especially in congested areas. Taking it a step farther is a PHEV which compounds the benefits five or 10 times. My PHEV engine very rarely runs in congested areas or stop and go situations.

Would have saved us a ton on our 16 Yukon Denali!!🤦🏻‍♂️ bought the bumper to bumper 100k mile warranty with our 23 Denali! I do wonder how much more detrimental it is to the motor turning off and on so much vs the fuel that is actually saved with auto start/stop…

    I'd pass on a small/medium size SUV for a family of four with a new baby and recommend instead a minivan, a minivan or a minivan. They're just an absolutely wonderful appliance for carrying families and all their stuff. Minivans aren't so "mini". My wonderful 2014 Sienna I drove from new until I sold it to a friend in 2022 was very roomy and could carry adults in comfort in all three rows with 40 sq. ft. of luggage space behind the 3rd row which could be dropped if not needed to carry about twice as much. I no longer need to carry as many people but I miss the van for its cargo capacity and would buy another if I had enough garage space.

    I asked a question about why the car companies don't seem to have focus groups to gauge public reaction to new designs of their vehicles. The new Mini would seem to be a perfect illustration of this. The majority of Mini lovers are (anecdotally) decidedly disappointed with this new version.

      GM did used to have an event each year that we (wife and I) enjoyed thoroughly in the early 2000s. It was called 'Autoshow in Motion'. You got to drive GM vehicles and the competition at the same event.

    • @housepianist
      @housepianist 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They do have such events. They’re called car shows. And there’s news releases and other media outlets that are used to show concepts. Manufacturers do gauge public reactions to new designs but they are usually from focus groups rather than the general public. Sometimes, manufacturers follow certain automotive trends so even if the public may view a new design negatively, a manufacturer may still do that design because others are doing it.
      Lastly, some of these new designs are created and fabricated long before it comes out to the public. They can’t make changes to this on the fly because most people may not like it. They would most likely release the new design and try to recoup the R&D costs from its sales while trying to understand public opinion, and opinion can change minute by minute so I can’t say I envy any manufacturer having to figure out a good balance between cost and public reactions.

    • @John_May.
      @John_May. 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@housepianist Oof, forgot about the car shows, though I tended to think of those as being for the pros like Zack and Andrea. I agree that it isn't at all easy to predict what the public may like or dislike, although for a niche product like a Mini it might be a lot easier to determine by at least showing a select few what they're doing.

    Regarding the BMW i3, I would say that BMW will never bring it back. BMW will likely create a car called the i3 (they already have one in China) but it will be nothing like the original i3.
    BMW had claimed that the iX1 was a replacement but it is much larger than the i3. More recently, BMW announced that there will be an i1 (sedan/hatchback) and an i2 (tall hatchback) - they now claim that the i2 will be the spiritual successor to the the original i3, but the i2 will be FWD or AWD - so, no. BMW will never create a replacement for the original RWD i3.

      BMW just announced it so we'll have to wait for it to become available to us. We may have to wait until it arrives in the press fleet here in Vancouver, that will take a while.

    In regards to Toyota, they are the best in naturally aspirated engines. Their biggest flop that taints their reliability image is adding a turbocharger with their entire line up. They should have left turbocharging w/their sports cars like the GR Corolla & Supra. GR Corollas biggest problem is the differential that keeps overheating and the Supra isn't exactly reliable due to their collaboration w/BMW. The point is, all vehicle manufacturers that add complex innovation and design increases more faults and failures. It's a matter of whether you can or can't live with it. Japanese brands are known for squeaks and rattles, Euro vehicles are known for electrical gremlins (money pits if you allow it to be), American automotive are known for unreliability.

    If u can not build a reliable engine with QC checking then you should not be building cars or trucks. Also both lexus and Toyota have the government involved this is serious recalls!

    Even though the recall for the grand Highlander/tx isn’t engine related do you think people will just hear “recall” and negatively associate it more than is warranted? I mean, Toyota and Lexus have such dedicated fans and customers, but I just worry about it ruining a strong reputation

    I don't understand people who drive 15,000Km a year or less who want to buy EVs to save money. The math doesn't math if cost is one of your major factors in selecting a vehicle. A hybrid SUV will be the cheapest option in the long run for 90% of people.

    Hello, Andrea. I am waiting for a 2025 Nissan Kicks. So far, what I know is that it is a very nice-looking SUV and has many safety features. However, some must-have options for me are power seats, a driver's memory seat with an outside mirror, a head-up display, and a power liftgate. These options do not seem to be included in the top trim SR.
    I can't believe Nissan would leave out those features in the top model when they include many excellent safety features.
    What do you know about this?

    • @andreaspencer9813
      @andreaspencer9813 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, you are right, it is missing features other competitors offer. Pricing hasn't been announced yet but maybe Nissan plans to keep it on the lower side in the subcompact class. We'll see.... We are going to be driving the new Kicks mid July in California, looking forward to sharing more details with you.

      Totally, go more on what consumers are saying. Sure brands like Land Rover are pretty consistently going to put out trash, but even brands with generally high quality can make crap, but then brand like Chevy that doesn’t have the best reputation can make cars with some good reliability.

      V35A-FTS TTV6 has been out for 7 years, not 2. It's fine, they had a production issue with the machining robots. There are literally V35A-FTS with over 100k + miles on the road all around you

      So small corporations don't put profit first? Consumers don't out their financial welfare first? Businesses that aren't financially competitive inevitably fail. Of course they aim to make profits. If Toyota's quality consistently starts to come down consumers can and will vote with their wallet.

    On that start stop garbage, there was an engineer who did the math on how much gas you would save over 200,000 miles and it broke down to something like less than a tank of gas. So it’s not even worth it as starting the vehicle consumes more gas than anything else.

    guys, there is something wrong in Toyota's leadership. Tacoma is severely overpriced at a time when the competition is way improved, Tundra and metal shavings: shavings are not new. How did they screw this up? Sienna can't get one (and the supply limitation is on purpose to force people in the ore expensive Grand Highlander). Mark my words, if Toyota doesn't shake things up they will drop kin sales.

    Model Y over a Mitsubishi any day. Why are you so hesitant to recommend an EV? Your stated reasons don’t hold water. There are ways around expensive electrical upgrades. Don’t doom people to maintaining an ICE vehicle and pollution.

      The Sorento PHEV starts at just under $49,000 CAD (MSRP) and the Outlander PHEV starts at just over $48,000 CAD (MSRP). Very little difference in starting price.
