    I learned a crazy new superstition when my grandfather passed.. apparently pregnant women aren't allowed to attend the funeral or socialize with someone who recently lost someone. The reasoning was that it would invite unwanted spirits, cursing/killing the unborn child. Had cousin and a cousin's wife miss out on the funeral (they don't believe it themselves, but for sake of the superstitious ones they skipped out. The cousin's wife though, did join us in after events. Kid is fine..). Chinese if you're wondering.

    A superstition that I was told before and still bring along till this day is that whenever you see a black moth flying around in the house, someone is coming over. Surprisingly this did work every time with the person either being an already informed guest or sometimes my parents coming over around 10 minutes after the moth appeared.

    • @c.lstrife2829
      @c.lstrife2829 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is four years old but imma added to this one since I grew up on this:
      In one Hawaiian superstition, if a black moth visits you, it means that your ancestor is watching over you.
      If the black moth flies from each corner of the room, someone in that room will die.
      If the black moth lands on you, it also means your ancestor is watching over you but you'll get good luck.

    1:20 it's actually magic mirror on the wall. Not mirror mirror. That's an example of the Mandela effect.

    • @melyssa2741
      @melyssa2741 7 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      It's not the Mandela effect. "Mirror mirror" was in the original Grim tales and most people prefer this instead of "magic mirror". People remember this "incorrectly" because the originals said "mirror mirror".

    • @ethos9350
      @ethos9350 7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      I don't really believe in the Mandela Effect. It's an excuse for people that can't remember events clearly and just get even more confused by other people that remember it differently.

    On the website Snopes, I found out about some methods for curing the seven years of bad luck that are said to result from breaking a mirror. It's an interesting read, and then I realized that in stories, especially TV shows, that feature that superstition, nobody ever mentions those remedies. The characters act like once you break the mirror, you're *stuck* with the seven years' bad luck. No option, no exceptions.

    Superstitions are everywhere. Throwing bridal bouquets, wearing a white wedding dress, groom not seeing bride before wedding, something old, new, borrowed, blue, carying bride over threshhold of a house, tieing cans and junk to a car and dragging them as you drive away, there are all popular bits of nonsense in my area.

    • @stenky02
      @stenky02 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blayne Peterson Well USA is not farther it is closer... you need almost full circle around the earth to reach russia from Japan going east and about 1/3-1/2 to USA (Depends what part (Alaska or Rest of USA))

    • @rurikvolkov2810
      @rurikvolkov2810 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clash with Stenky dum dum Alaska is part of the USA do you not realize that and because parts of Alaska cross the International Date Line they are farther east there are a couple islands that are ride across the International Date Line making the United States the country farthest to the East and farthest to the West thanks again to Alaska
      And parts of Russia do come rather close to the International Date Line making it farther east then Japan however most of it is to the west of Japan but that does not mean that you cannot travel in an Eastward Direction and not end up in Russia

    • @stenky02
      @stenky02 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blayne Peterson I am sorry ... my english is bad so that might be why you didn't understand me... I sad parts of USA (Alaska or Rest of USA) wich means Alaska is part of USA ! Here’s some more superstitions:
    Fun facts:
    1-you should never write names in red pen since in Korean superstition red is bad luck and it's the same as cursing someone
    2-geisha would wear white powder since if the candles when out the light would catch on their faces and illuminate the room but it would make them look pale like a ghost so they wore red makeup so evil spirits wouldn't harm them
    3-it's believed if you keep a broom upside down it will ward off guests you don't like so if you see one it might mean they don't like you very much
    4-if you sneeze on a Sunday the devil will chase you all next week
    5-if you see a light and whistle at it the devil will slap you in the face
    6- if you see a magpie you should tip your hat and ask how it’s wife is doing or you’ll get bad luck
    7-if you give yellow flowers to someone you’re cursing them with infidelity
    8-if a pregnant woman mocks someone their baby will have the same features of the people they mocked
    9-if a funeral vehicle goes by while you’re laughing you’ll be next
    10-if you roll in morning dew at dawn you’ll become beautiful
    11-if you clip your nails at night a rat will eat them and become a monster version of you and torment you
    12-if you come home after 6pm you have to walk in backwards or evil spirits will follow you in
    13-if you’re the last to walk in a evil spirit will follow you
    14-if you wash on New Year’s Day a loved one will dye
    15-if you sneeze or cough twice someone is talking behind your back
    16-once your cat grows old it will turn into a vampiric shapeshifting cat that can turn others into zombies by jumping over them apparently
    17-on Christmas you must leave an extra plate and let a stranger join you or else you will receive bad luck
    18-hide your brooms on Christmas or a witch will steal them
    19-hide your knives on Halloween or else a ghost will steal them
    20-if you don’t touch your collar when you see a funeral vehicle or you’ll be next

    Bosnian Superstitions
    1. Doing laundry on a Tuesday is bad luck and demons will come to your house.
    2. Going out at night as a kid is bad luck because you could get kidnapped by the mythical witch Baba Roga and get taken away to her chicken legged house (yes a witch house on two giant chicken legs).
    3. Being outside at dusk is very bad luck because that is when the demons began to come out.
    4. Never mention snakes around small children, especially babies, since it is very bad luck. If you do, then you have to make a noise that sounds a bit like "Psss" or like snake noise.
    5. Don't sit on the bare ground or else your ovaries will freeze.
    6. Pouring candy and money over a baby when you see it for the first time (for friends and family) for good luck.
    7. Covering the lips of a new born with sugar for good luck.
    8. Coffee grinds at the bottom of your cup (we drink that shit dark as night with the grinds) can be used for fortune telling. The shape tells you your fortune.
    9. Stepping over someone who is laying down steals their ability to grow. (told to children)
    10. Same as number 9 but instead of stepping over someone, you put your feet up against theirs (sole to sole). I think this is just to stop kids from being annoying lol
    11. I'm sure there is more, but I can just throw it all into one category, Religion
    I wish my people weren't so.... childish
    Edit: And yes... I have had multiple exorcism done on me... My people are a special type of crazy

      @officially8210 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both of those Irish superstitions are around in the UK as well, though finding four-leaved clovers is generally an activity for kids and 'hello, sir magpie' is more of a habit for those who say it than anything else.

    • @cannellofglory6968
      @cannellofglory6968 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i know i was exaggerating by saying no one believes in those superstitions, but most people don't. BTW im from the country side in Cork and if anyone was to believe in superstitions it would be the people from the country. also Ireland is a relatively small country and i have been to a lot of the county's and ive never came across anyone who believes in those superstitions, how ever most people i know will laugh at a superstition like if we see a hole in a tree or if we see a fairy fort. FYI the real colour of a leprechaun is red... if they were to exist.
