  • More than 60 British firms which took part in the world's biggest four-day working week trial found it successful and plan to extend it.
Employers had to make sure there was no reduction in wages for staff who took part in trialling a 32-hour week.

In Germany almost everything is closed on sundays, so the weekend has essentially only one day to get things done outside the house. I’m absolutely in favor of trying this.

The 4 day work week is about reducing the amount of working hours per week, not squeezing 5 work days into 4. Long term this can only work if actual working hours are reduced, not 4 longer days in a row each week indefinitely.

In about 2014 I owned a £6 million company. I tried all sorts of being nice to employees. Things that were counterproductive - paying double the going salary for the job. People saved up money and set up in competitions or went travelling, etc.
Things that worked - shorter working week - cos it was internet sopping it had to be 5 days a week getting the orders out - but they came in at 10am and left when the work was done - usually about 4.00pm
Turns out people are more motivated by not working than extra money, And I dont mean that as an insult.

JEREMY CORBYN WAS REJECTED BY THE UK. It was JC who gave BoJo all those seats at the last General Election. If JC suggested it then CLEARLY it is an INSANE IDEA!

4 Day working week as a Government/Council employee means that the phones have to be answered PROMPTLY 5 days a week and Council Tax is ONLY PAID for 4 days out of 5 or we are all given back 20% of our Council Tax. That will have to come out of the wage bill so 20% SACKED on the spot, NO REDUNDANCY since they chose that option. EQUITY.

Sounds nice in principle and many working people would probably go for it if it was an option, but there are companies out there that may decide to try to take advantage of an opportunity to reduce the worker's wages and benefits. Some companies don't like to offer benefits like 4-day weeks unless it benefits themselves in some way. This will need policing.
What's going to happen to the workplace pension scheme when employers are only required to pay into it for 4 days instead of 5? These things need consideration and action if needed.
Considering that many unions are currently fighting for a fair standard of living for the workers, is it really appropriate to be talking about reducing working hours like this?

Katherine is magnificent, don't copy some tactics. She works 24/7, she is the economy, not the people. Just reduce the working hours but not days

39% Said they were "less stressed" or to flipside 61% were more stressed, 57% decrease in the number of people leaving companies. On what basis? people don't just hand in their notice based on the amount of days & hours they work.
