The ageing of white plastics isn't that big of a deal as it once was. the inherent "brownish" colours that develop over time in expecially 60s to 90s plastics, was in most cases caused by flame-retardants (bromine-based variants of some sorts are the most well known ones here), that has been used alot in this period. as far as i know, bromine has been completely abbandoned by the early 2000s as flame-retardant in plastics. reverting this process (for a limited time unfortunately) using UV-Light and hydrogen peroxide is what people call "retrobrighting". However, I am pretty confident, that today's white plastic are much less prone to those discoloration caused by aging. This doesn't mean, that plastic doesn't age at all, they of course do, but most likely the much bigger impact would be, that plastics will get more brittle over time to a certain extend, caused by the pastic-softeners diffusing out of the material (however, this affects all colors, but white usually has less softeners to begin with, because the softeners cause some discoloration on their own).
nah man. it'll continue to be a thing forever. my NZXT phantom full tower is white on the metal parts, beige where it should be white on the plastic parts. and it's uneven too. I tried to shield it from the sun as much as possible but a 100% indirect light did all this damage. so if I ever do white again I want full metal.
Everything white turns yellow over time. It's not just UV, it's the moisture in the air, it's the oils on your hands....if you smoke, forget it, you're done lol
I did a all white Corsair 5000x qL build with the ASrock 7900 xtx Tiachi. I keep it covered with the box I get with my order of paper towels when not in use. I only turn it on when I'm using it. It helps keep it in perfect white condition. I also wipe it down with a moist paper towel regularly to get the dust and dirt build up off. It's amazing how much dust builds up in such a short period of time. There was a 3 month period where I wasn't really paying attention and I could literally see the difference in color where the fans suck the air thru. Took all the parts off and washed them off. Back to shiny white.
At least it’s got 3-8 pin connectors. It’s strange how some XTX’s only have 2- 8 pin connectors. Also, really loving the fractal torrent, Huge Air Flow Case
Why is it weird? Powercolor Hellhound has only 2 - 8 pins and it boosts 2800 mhz out of the box, thats almost more than most other cards and it also overclocks to 3000/3100 mhz. It appears u dont need 3 - 8 pins at all when the coolor end desing is good.
I've had the same case for almost a decade now. wow time flies. bought the fractal define R5 back in 2014, and havent seen a reason to upgrade yet. nice build!
I prefer white computers over black or other colors. My current systems are two X99 systems both in white NZXT H440 Cases, a 12th Gen system in a white Raijintek Case, and an AMD R9-5950X, ASUS ROG X570, 128GB DDR4, ASUS TUF Gaming RTX-3080 in a Lian Li Lancool II RGB Mesh White. I wish more motherboards were available in white, but I don't mind the black and white mix. So you said some interesting things in your video that touched on what I am doing in my Fractal Torrent (non white) with my Powercolor 7900XTX Red Devil, and my monitor which has a 60Hz refresh rate and Free Sync. I run vsync and it means the GPU is almost never stressed and allows it to run silent as heck and cool. The PC is maybe 3 feet away from me, and silent as I type this with your video playing, and two streams streaming in other windows. It's like a weird hack for super smooth gameplay.
I sold my NZXT Phantom case (white) after having it for maybe 6-7 years, and it hadn't yellowed. I hope it's still out there in service somewhere, and still white.
Hi Wendell, has there been much progress on PCI reset and the AMD 7000 series? I'm looking to upgrade my RTX 2080 Super and, based on what you said about the issues I have been pushing the purchase back (also looking at a 7900 XT[X]). I'm looking at a running Looking Glass for the few games (and peripherals) that won't run under wine/proton. Your insights as to the current driver state would be very much appreciated.
I've got an old GTX 960 for the host, 6800XT I'd pass through. CPU is a 5900X but the motherboard is a Gigabyte B450 - if something is going to stop me it'd be the motherboard right? Can I put the 960 in the bottom full length 4x slot?
Is it just my eyes or is there an autofocus issue with the camera Wendell used to shoot this video? I'm noticing intermediate refocusing which causes out of focus to occur.
Does it have anti-tamper stickers? I am planning a watercooled build, and I am looking for a 7900 XTX that I can use while still being able to RMA it if it dies.
My 7900XTX had no problem with 1440 RT Ultra in Cyberpunk. It's a Pulse edition. The benchmark is on my channel. I really don't want that channel blowing up. Have no desire to make that a part time job but yea, I am 100% convinced this Taichi edition would also shred it. Overdrive? No, not happening but a 4090 needs software to get over 60 with 4K overdrive. Another example would be Black Desert Online, 4K what they call 'trailer mode'. I can't get 4K 60 fps on that. In terms of the Taichi price. If you are determined to have an all white build, this is the high altitude card to run in an all white build. If white isn't a focus point, get a pulse or a Phantom. It's the quality I respect most in AsRock. They don't play favorites. 7600 Challenger right up to 7900XTX Taichi White.
I've been wondering if the three vertical slots in the Phantex Evolv X case give this card enough space to breathe. While you didn't answer that specific of a question here thanks for covering this. I wasn't aware the Taichi had a white edition.
nice combo with the taichi carrara mobo and 7900 card, however I kept getting distracted by the top pci-e solid state drive cover being so far out of alignment.
Car makers use white paint on grey plastic that continues to match the painted metal next to it for decades of sun exposure meanwhile case makers keep trying to make solid white plastic that won't eventually yellow which will never happen unless they use uPVC.
love the build and gpu, bequiet Ive already planned to be my next case with a 5.25 slot. Anybody else remember the good old days, when folks could smoke in the office? Everything required billowing clouds of smoke back then. Incoming phone call? Fire one up! White plastic didn't age in an office back then and neither did any other color of plastic, nor metal, nor ceiling tiles. In time, everything just became coated varying shades of earthy yellows, oranges and browns.
ASRock customer service did me dirty, I would recommend to stay away from their products. I bought an RX6800 in early 2021 and the card started having issues after less than a year in a well ventilated case. Took me months to figure out my increasing problems were being caused by the GPU. After painstakingly finding their well hidden support tickets, I had to pay 80$ of my own money to return the card to them, only for them to refuse the warranty over a loose sticker that was placed precariously close to the PCIE lane and mobo. It was already hanging by a thread. After pushing for more help they approved an exchange and mistakenly sent me a RX6800XT which was obviously refurbished. They asked me to pay 60$ difference because this was a mistake and this card was more valuable.... they asked me to pay more money for a refurbished card hoping I wouldn't notice. When I called out their CS agent for this terribly shady proposal, they never replied. Guess what? Refurbished card did exactly what I assumed a refurbished card would do, it died in 3 months. I am out 1400$(Can) with nothing to show for it but a big paper weight. ASRock can go F**k themselves.
I mean, I've got a white/black case from 2011 (Corsair Carbide 500R) and it's really not very noticeable that the plastics are a slightly different shade than the metal, after all these years. YMMV
