I have... insane drive timeout issues on several games with the 7900 XTX. Darktide is unplayable and I have had 2 RMA'd cards so far with the same driver issues, but I can run a 7600 RX on my system no issues. Phantom Brigade also drive timeouts, and a few DX12 old games like Deus Ex on DX 12 will crash, but DX 11 will not. I'd love to keep the 7900 XTX but... this issue makes it garbage.
Cyberpunk no issues, a few bigger games no issues. BUt you CANNOT rely on this card to be able to run something.
DO NOT. Get the 7900 XTX. Its drivers are insane, they are awful, AMD is not responding to us either. There's a hardware survey of 200+ people reporting this issue with hundreds of different hardware combinations. AMD will NOT answer.

@@ErgonomicChair hi, this sounds like there is a problem somewhere else in your system that only happens when you run a more powerful GPU (rx 7600 150W vs 7900xtx 350W).
and once the 7900xtx is running is stressing more your system that that flaw is noticeable, power supply, ram even the motherboard power delivery.

@@TheBoltcranck Can't be, I have a 1200 watt power supply. That and it runs Cyberpunk 2077 ultra perfectly fine, it has nothing to do with power draw as I can also run synthetic benches fine.
It IS an issue with the drives. DarkTide runs at 100 FPS, Cyberpunk at 60 FPS. Cyberpunk draws more power. Phantom brigade is less power/graphically draining than either and also crashes.
This is a flaw with the driver suite of AMD and has been reproted on a survey of 200 people now all with different configurations and AMD knows about the issue, have acknowledged it to us in emails, but release ZERO press statements or recalls. Starfield actually had this isuse but they patched it out quickly enough... so they KNOW the issue and are doing nothing to fix it.
Motherboard is an X670 Carbon Wifi, thing has zero issues, again, on Cyberpunk 2077. FAR more grpahically demanding than darktide.

I think the 4080 is a very good card for 4k heavy RT (and non RT) games if you use DLSS on balanced or performance with Frame Generation where possible.
And it might get better with future driver and DLSS updates. You can use 'DLSS Swapper' for tinkering with that.

    • @stickysquirrel5687
      @stickysquirrel5687 หลายเดือนก่อน

Future driver updates will potentially improve both cards both are equal in performance except in ray tracing which will have to be a toggle for almost a decade still.
In the end it becomes budget, availability, use case.
And at that point amd is better overall but Nvidia does specific programming applications better and 50/50 on blender.
The moment you need all the vram you can get amd will outshine nvdia.
It's just trading blows and next gen with pcie5 is upon us the leap that the next gen could give us could be enormous.

MHO, both these cards aren't meant for 4K. It would be meant for 4K if the devs weren't that lazy to fully optimize their games to run great on PCs. But I guess, that will take a few years for devs to really consider us as PC gamers to optimize their games to accommodate us.
Nevertheless, these GPUs can run perfectly fine on 4K but I would suggest 1440P. If you are a streamer especially on Twitch, then 4K gaming is pointless because viewers won't really see the difference. As for 1440P, thats the go to resolution in 2024 and beyond for now of course until games fully matured to run 4K res properly on PC. VRAM isn't an easy for GPUs these days, its the Devs that's flippen lazy to optimize the games.
Nvidia- great for RT+DLSS, streaming, content creation and work of course. Power efficient. Caters for everyone but greedy like Apple.
AMD- gaming only. Very Power-hungry. Caters for gamers only and make GPUs affordable for now but soon will skyrocket their pricing because AMD doesn't really make much profits.
I have an RTX 4070 and I am quite happy with it even though I only have 12GB Vram.
I believe that if I had both these cards, I would've just tweaked a few settings in-game to get 100+ FPS on 4K. Unless bro didn't enable any special features on Team Green and Team Reds GPUs.

@@asdfg4330 I've had a 4080 for a while now, I don't need to buy one, I've got one at the moment! I said I prefer energy efficiency and good RT performance! Not just for gaming, but also because I render in - Blender 3D editor - in Optix render mode! However, to give you an idea of what I'm talking about... I limited the maximum power consumption of my card to 250 watts! 3Dmark Port Royal -- at default setting I get 17510 points. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less, depending on the automatic frequency control. In games I always use the RT function where possible! The card is very quiet when used this way, and I am particularly sensitive to this! Unfortunately, AMD cards with RT or using the HIP renderer in Blender don't even come close to this level at this power consumption! I emphasize, at this power consumption! Yes, the 4080 costs more, but it's not unaffordable. The 4090 was not an option for me, because of the high power consumption and the melting connectors! I didn't want to risk the latter! The 4080 is perfectly acceptable, I have been using it for over a year. Some people have the car as a hobby and spend 10,000 Euro every 2-3 years, but that would be a luxury for me! The petrol is unrealistically expensive, it would take a small fortune a year, and so would the service when the time comes! Compared to that, it's a "penny" item, symbolically of course! I upgrade video cards every 4 years, in that time, I can easily save up what I need! I know it's a "lot" of money, but to each his own...

The 7900 XTX is cheaper and offers more pure rasterisation, but at the cost of higher TDP and suffers significantly worse performance at raytracing. The 4080 super is more expensive and is marginally weaker at rasterised graphics, but excels at raytracing, draws less power, and comes with the added benefits of NVIDIA software features like DLSS and support for streaming.
It's entirely up to user preference, but if I had the money, I'd personally choose the AMD card.
P.S. I almost forgot to mention the VRAM capacity! The 7900 XTX has 24 GB, and the 4080 Super has 16. Currently, both are more than sufficient for modern games, but the 7900 XTX may age more gracefully due to the larger capacity.

MSRP may be 999 vs 999 US dollars, but in reality on any given average day in the US the 7900 XTX is 920 and the 4080 Super is 1150. I do believe that the 4080 Super is the better card overall, but it's not a whopping 230 dollars better. If you are one of the few lucky ones to be able to grab a 4080 Super for the super rare 999 MSRP price then yes, it's the better deal. Thing is though, the 7900 XTX is going to keep dropping in price, and the 4080 Super will not drop lower than 999 for a long time.

Why a 4080 super if it is at the same price:
You get better drivers (prolly idk)
Supported by more games(nvidia sponsors a lot of games ya know)
Much more famous to flex on
      Cuda cores
      Rt performance obv
      Much better at workstation tasks
What else does one would want?

@@Birdman._.problem is they’re not actually the same price. 7900XTX has been $940 for a while now and you can’t even find a 4080 Super for under $1150 right now. $210 difference and that’s in America, it’s even worse in Europe from the comments I’ve read.
Really the only situation I see the Super being more useful is if you have a work flow that supports it or if you actually use Raytracing, which I think is cool in cinematic games. But anything that’s fast paced, I immediately turn it off.

powerdraw is weirdest thing. when i had 1080 it consumed around 150 w and 7900 xtx now around 300 but in electrometer it comes only 20 kwh higher and no diff in cost

  • @RoastMasterUK

so xtx is 5-10fps more over 4080 BUT
the xtx uses 50-70 extra watts to do it

I see lots of complaning about 50 watts more power draw on rx7900xtx , but so many yet pair rtx4080 with intel cpus that uses 200 watts more to run similar fps .
That complaining on power draw is nonsense, just hating amd thats all you guys do ,
