  • Gone and bought myself a 1976 Fizzy ! I am told that it had been sitting in a shed unused and unloved for 41 years ! Bought it as a runner but it needs a bit of work and also needs to be re-registered with the DVLA, hopefully with its original number. I have been doing a few videos of the work I have been doing to get her up and running for some moped runs next year.

Yeah... That chrome starts to rust so easy. Back in 1990/91, I were attending these evening activities for school kids, at the age of some 13 years old. And in the machine shop, they all had their own mopeds. And Yamaha chrome were notorious. I got to see and listen to how to fix up various brands and models. Like FS1's naturally, but also Suzuki K50's and DM50's, Honda Dax, Puch Monza and Grand Prix plus Maxi. It was wild to see them cleaning sood from exaust pipes, using gas burners and other things. I still remember those cool moist late summer nights, with the smell of 2-stroke fumes.

Very lucky. My first bike was a 76 Fizzy back in 1989. Mine had a drum front brake.

I went the dark side, and had a Suzuki K50 4 speed from 1976. From factory the 4 speed had two flushing canals in the cylinder, and the 3 speed had three canals. I ended up installing a cylinder from a 3 speed. Same top speed but it had an good torgue compared to legal FS1. Though I really wanted a Honda Dax instead.

Hi mate, I've been after a 74 Popsicle one but they are asking so much money, even for a non runner! I've kind of fallen for this one now and am enjoying bringing her back to life 🙂

Takes me back to being 16 again 😊
I had an R reg red DX with a beeline spannie and it was my pride & joy until some stupid woman pulled out in front of me sending me hurtling over her bonnet and smashing the bike to bits..
Luckily I was only badly bruised but the bike was a write off.
Brought it back from the insurance company and sold it to my mate for spares and used the proceeds to buy my first X7.
Am restoring an S reg one now😊
Can I ask how much you paid for it?
Would love to have another Fizzy as a project.
    Thank you for sharing👌🏻

Yep more nostalgia for me too. Identical to the FS1/E DX I had new in 1976. My cousin had a Honda SS50 (Yamaha FS1/E's were originally called SS50. SS being sixteener sprecial) & the Fizzy was much quicker. Reg was PTO - - - R. I'd like one now but the prices have been insane.

The brake caliper can be a nightmare, its often the pin in the back of caliper thats mostly seized. It has a rubber band around it inside the caliper, and rust from the pin make it swell up and seize pretty bad sometimes.

Thanks for comment about the calliper, that is exactly what had happened. I managed to free it all up and it now works a treat. Rightly or wrongly I have not refitted the rubber band.

@@MadMickey58Nice, its a pretty good caliper as long as it gets a little care and grease sometimes. I work alot on FS1 mopeds, and its a really fun bike to remind somebody of the good old days 🙂 And its a nice one you have as well.

Hi, you may find some fs1e/dx had chrome headlight brackets, the pedal cover which is chrome may also be correct, if not then we used to use ford silver fox as a match. A friend had one with locking petrol cap. I think you have clutch cable bracket missing from the air box, it just keeps the cable in line. I hope this info is useful to you. Ps front brake pipe caliper end should be copper. These are just bits I rember from having mine.

Hello Robin, thank for your comment and the info. The chap I bought it from thought that chrome headlamp brackets were probably original. I think someone may have fitted them after the bike was sold because they were hitting the fuel tank. I have fitted a set of used ones in black and they do not hit the tank. Thanks for the tip on the silver paint. I have fitted a p clip to the clutch cable, not sure if it’s in the correct place ! Thanks again, Mickey

I prefer the lower more flat bars without the brace.
Back in the day Where I grew up I never saw the yellow dx with the braced bars.

I agree with you there. The bike no longer has those bars fitted 👍

I had a 'Baja' brown one. It had been 'messed with'. Fast but had a habit of nipping up when thrashed.
Part exxed it for a Suzuki TS50ER.
    Whadda mistake to make...

Got mine new in 1976. Very first set of lights I grabbed the brake like i would my my c50 field bike and got thrown off my brand new bike as it went unexpectedly vertical. Happy days. Yours isn't NPK366R by any chance?
