@numbersasaname2291 I think mophat is right, but also. We're still talking about a few minutes of action. That honestly might not have been long enough for them to even be aware that anything had happened til it's over.
Not to be grim about it, but look at the timeline for 9/11 from when the first plane hit to when it was reported for the first time on TV. It was almost three minutes before even local NY stations were showing the footage. I would say that's a comparable event.
I think it's reasonable that no one would be able to respond to the site, even from London, before the fight was over.

As you should be, Stef. It's been ten years since Winter Soldier's release and an additional 24 MCU movies have been added to the franchise since then. And it's STILL regarded as one of the best MCU films of all time.
Here are some the dark world facts. The bifrost got fixed after Thor retrieved the tesseract because Odin use the tesseract to create the bifrost. Odin or Heimdall had the ability to send thor off Asgard using dark magic but it was a one-way trip the return with the tesseract. The average asgardian strength level is around 1 to 3 tons. The average Palace guard strength level is around 10 tons. As for more advanced warriors like the lady Sif and the warrior 3 their strengths are around 50 tons that also includes Loki. At least regarding Loki's physical strength telepathically he can lift over 100 ton not to mention the dozens of different power Loki is capable of doing. Then there are special cases like Heimdall with abilities that rival odins then Thor who physical strength on average is around 450 tons then there's his power scaling which he has the ability to destroy a continent. So the dark elf who used the kursed stone which was made of matter particles from The Aether aka the reality infinity stone. If you're wondering why the dark elves want to turn make the universe dark is because the elves thrive in darkness so in a dark universe the elf species would receive ability similar to the kursed one.
Most people don't like this movie because they don't understand it.
The convergence is explained to us multiple times.
The place where Jane and her team were, was essentially a developing portal.
The Ether looks for host bodies and pulled Jane to it.
I understood it just fine. I disliked it because it's dour and dark and overserious even while Thor and Asgard are inherently very, very silly... it's a bad mix that brings out and underlines the silliness of the whole premise. I mean, you've got this supposedly advanced space-faring race... and they still use hammers and spears for weapons and wear plate male armor? Yeah... of course they get easily mowed down by the dark elves who use projectile weapons. Duh. On top of that... boring, underdeveloped, forgettable villain. Dumb MacGuffin quest. Poor chemistry between Hemsworth and Portman. A drab color palette for pretty much all of the film which matches the dour and overserious tone of the film but just makes it a drag to watch. Silly action sequences. I mean... for fuck's sake... this "ether" is supposed to be one of the most powerful objects in the entire Universe, you say? Some ultimate omnipotent weapon, you say? Oh no... the bad guy has it and is capable of wielding it now? Oh shit. What's it going to do?? Oh.... it.... knocked Thor off his feet momentarily. But it didn't break the skin or even cause any bruising. Um. Yeah. Wow. Super powerful.
This was easily the worst film in the MCU for a very long time. It held on to that title until at least 2019 when Captain Marvel hit theaters. Pretty much all critics agreed. Were they all too dumb to understand it? Maybe you didn't understand it? Nah... must be that everyone else was wrong...

This movie suffered from comparisons to Avengers; it just couldn't compete; but in reality it's not NEARLY as bad as people would have you believe: don't buy into the rage-bait. It's almost precisely equal to Iron Man 2 in overall quality, it's a 7/10 in a field of 8's 9's and 10's.
Agreed. It's honestly the same comparison to the last five years. To quote the obnoxious fanbase, "Everything the MCU has put out since Endgame has been trash". Well duh. Infinity War/Endgame were lightning in a bottle. Trying to capture that same magic again is near impossible, so having Infinity War/Endgame-level expectations with every MCU release is just gonna disappoint.

I've tried to keep out of online fanbases and critical communities ever since WAAAY back when The 5th Element came out.
It's a solid 7/10 movie and I love it, but the critics acted like it was as bad as "the room".
and I got into Anime in the 80's, so I got to watch that whole community go off the rails in real time... 🤦
Some people just want to shite on everything to make themselves feel superior, or as an ulterior motives...

Loki has Illusion magic he can make anything look however he likes, including himself dying.
Spiderman and some other Marvel superheroes got started in 1963. So did I. So I grew up reading these comics. By the mid 70s the story lines were intense and dramatic. I say this to highlight how good a job the MCU has done to amalgamate all the stories and histories of these characters from the last 60 years into movies that current audiences can follow and even form attachments to. For those who say that this movie or that movie is the worst or least one, I'd say that you've got to remember that they are all a part of a much bigger picture.
stef, the guy at the very end, the Collector, he is very old, so is his collection, you will see more of it later , and other things and people

I’ve loved this movie since it came out. Is it the best? Absolutely not, but given the recent MCU, it’s made appreciate this movie so much more. Loki is top 5 characters in the MCU.

This is one of those movies where the more I watch it the more I like it. Loki will always 100% be the best part of this movie.

If you've got people telling you what's going to happen, or even telling you if a movie is good or bad before you watch it, I don't think those are fans. People that truly want to see a blind reaction won't tell you anything about what's coming up, so that it doesn't get ruined. 🤷🏻♂️

stef, i think that alien ship might have appeared and the final battle only took as long as that group of scenes did for the movie, so the avengers if they did see that ship on tv, it would have taken them a couple hours to fly to england, and by that time, the movie/battle was over and the alien ship was on another planet
I do agree with the (somewhat general) perception that the relationship between Thor and Jane didn't really worked the way they expected, with the fact that the Jane character is one of, if not THE, main love interest of Thor from the comics in general... I'm one of the viewers who thinks that they should've gone full steam ahead with Thor's relationship with Lady Sif after the first movie when people said that they didn't really connect with Thor and Jane's romantic relationship (certainly after this movie it would make even more sense)... The curious part is that it has been said over the years that there was an early version of the script for this movie where the "triangle" and Sif's feelings for Thor played a little bit of a bigger role in the story... I 1000% would prefer Thor to be with Sif... It would make much more sense and can also lead to good scenarios and storytelling... The God of Thunder & The Goddess of War

Hi Steph. Great reaction! Remember that these movies are early on. Nobody knows about Thanos or the infinity stones yet except comic readers. Even they are not sure how those comics will translate to film or how much marvel will stick to them. So each movie is building out the universe and dropping hints of what's to come, but also focusing on one corner of the marvel universe and introducing us to more characters or teaching us more about the ones we've met. So far as why the avengers haven't arrived to save the day - they are not just waiting around for things to happen. They have only worked together once at this stage and even later on when they are actively intervening, lots and lots of things are happening all at the same time. These films show us some of the things that are happening and some of them make it more obvious when they are taking place in the timeline as well.
Love to see you going back through these movies as well. I'm a huge Loki fan too so i'm hoping you one day react to his show.

The battle in London happened pretty fast. They might not of had time to get there. Also the same thing can be said of Ironman 3.

I honestly love mythology and lore so Thor movies never bore me, I always appreciated the laughs in these earlier ones specifically keeping the serious parts and sprinkling in the humor. Not my favorite Avenger, but probably 2nd.

I personally think this film is over-hated as well. It also plays a significant role later on. And, it's at this point that things really start to connect and get REALLY good moving forward. Enjoy!

Hello Stef!😊 The Elves were dormant, and the release of the Aether awakened them. The realms have actually been at peace for a while. It has only become unstable with recent events. This is probably why Asgard doesn't have much in the way of defense. When Thor was going to be crowned king in the first film, they were at peace. The Thor sequels tend to be a bit odd. I agree, the main story is not that strong. Great reactions to this Thor sequel, Stef!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Other Avengers (or SHIELD) not coming to help only means they are somewhere else busy with their own missions or problems and would not even be aware of what’s happening in this movie. But simplest reason is, it wouldn’t be a Thor movie if he needed other heroes to defeat the movie’s villain. This goes for any solo Marvel hero movie. It would only be an Avengers movie if a situation needed for all of them to defeat it. 😁
So, Stef, you asked about the connection between this movie and the overall saga. I think it’s more a character building movie, relations between Thor, Loki, Odin and Friga and that influence on future movies. Of course, the aether will enter into the plot of future movies in the hands of the Collector. So glad you liked. On to CA, Winter Soldier. 👍🏻😊 Good intuitive foresight at 42:35 on “wanting them to think he’s dead”. And Stef, you didn’t recognize Benicio Del Toro as the Collector? Stef! Loki’s death was a projection illusion; after all he is the God of Mischief. Avengers don’t respond to every conflict or disaster. It just doesn’t serve the saga to have a team up every movie.
The ‘weak spots’ were random. Jane tried to open them but didn’t know where it would open to.
Marvel has had many artists and writers throughout their comic book history. Which means many versions of characters and stories. Marvel Studios had a specific story to tell that spanned multiple characters and comic issues. Trimming the story or changing things slightly rubs some fans the wrong way. There are movies that fall into that category.

I have no problems with Thor: The Dark World. In fact, one of the upcoming films actually makes this a better film. This film is very important in the overall storyline, and the film is heavy with exposition, but it’s all important information eventually.
Best aspect of this movie was Thor and Loki dynamic. Loki was not once a bad guy in that movie if you think about it. Polt wise the villain was weak and the plot was not good because they wanted jane to do something and not be the mistress in distress, but that failed . because Jane is human and all the other Gods and Dark Elves.
Let's 'dive' more into this 'Thor thing'.....

You will find out about the Collector two movies ahead. Of the first 3 Thor movies I'd rank this last, but I liked it better on rewatching than I did the first time. The director of this movie also directed multiple episodes of Game of Thrones including the one where Ned was executed in the first season.

I agree with you that there is a lack of chemistry between Thor and Jane. The relationship just doesn't work like Tony and Pepper or Steve & Peggy, or even Bruce & Betty. Or any of the other relationships in the upcoming movies. No spoilers! You'll have to discover them for yourself.
This is far from the worst MCU movie. It's not even the worst in phases 1-3. It might be the worst specifically in phase 2 - but that's a pretty high bar. IMO, the main problem is the villain - just generically evil-for-evil's-sake, not at all interesting, like Loki or most of the other MCU villains.
The Collector is an odd case. He's neither a good guy nor a bad guy. Without going into too much detail, he's just obsessed with his collection. He's not trying to conquer the universe or kill anyone, or anything like that.

55:00 - How quickly do you think the Avengers move? The whole climax took maybe an hour. It's not like they're all sitting around in a ready room waiting for a batsignal or something.
Especially because these films take place in the time they were released. So thor was dealing with this whilst iron man was dealing with anxiety and cap was dealing with whatever happens in the next film. Its all basically simultaneous
Tony Stark is probably still recovering from open-heart surgery. And none of the Avengers (other than Thor) have any experience with "mystical, mythological" threats like this.
Avengers couldnt be there for 2 reasons. first , it all happened too quick , even the avengers needs time to go from DC to London. And the second one is that , this is a Thor movie 😁. Same thing happens in the comics , so many times we readers asked "soooo why spiderman fights him that is overpowered but never calls hulk!"
Strap in. Next two movies are top tier.

I would only agree that this movies is one of the weaker ones, but it's still very watchable. IMO, the weakest of all the MCUs would be a tie between The Eternals and The Marvels. Good news is that the movies get quite good from here on... Enjoy!! :)

Agree the movie isn't the worst Marvel movie. Know of some people who think this is one of the best.
Lack of chemistry between Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman has been evident since the first Thor movie. Not that they are bad actors. Both are excellent actors.
Christopher Eccleston is a very good actor. The suit they had him in restricts his motion making him less menacing.
Portals and swapping between the different realms can be confusing. It seems there are no rules in where they pop up. Reality is portals are random during the Convergence until the realms are perfectly aligned. They made clever use of this having the portals send characters to different locations. Loved Thor's hammer leaving Earth to head to Elfland Svartalfheim. Then back to Earth when Thor and Malekith portaled back to the Gherkin skyscraper. That was very clever.
Even with these flaws the movie is still enjoyable. The interaction between Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston is perfect. The cast does great. Of course, Loki fooled Thor into thinking he was dead. Apparently Thor did flunk out of Med School.
The big rock guy Thor smashed in the fight is a Kronan. Rock beats scissors. Scissors beat paper. Paper beats rock. Hammers also beat rocks and scissors. But can hammer beat paper?

I promise you this film is relevant to the main plot of this entire chain of movies. Its just this one is not as obvious until u watch everything else
