For people trying to find yuba (at least in Toronto Canada), another name/version of it is "Bean Curd Sheets". You can find them in most asian grocers, for sure in Chinatown at least. :)
Don’t ever stop showing yourself chowing down on the food. I can’t get over how much I enjoy watching you eat, because it is, in fact, the most tell tale sign of how good your creations are! And you are so honest as you are eating, sharing what you like, what you love, or what you would/could change. Thanks Lauren!
I never really liked bacon, so it makes me happy I don’t need to replace it. I have done smoked eggplant “bacon” before and it was great. I want to try this!
I just ordered some yuba! Can't wait to try this! I heard from Sauce stache did a video about yuba and some asian stores sell yuba. I'll have to look for it!
I am starting my day with your banana muffins, and I think I am going to look for yuba skins today for dinner (think it will be good in v. creamy pasta!!!).. literally hot for food all day!!!!! Thank you for sharing Lauren! Love ya!!!! 💖
Omggg that brand makes Thai curry nuggets (tofu) and they're soooo good. I put them on bamboo skewers, broiled inside, and served with a coconut peanut sauce. I haven't seen the yuba sheets in my store :(
Colgin Liquid Smoke tastes less chemically because it is Natural Hickory (or apple wood or pecan or mesquite) Smoke flavor. No chemicals to taste. The Best stuff out there.
I tried yuba for the first time at 20th St Pizza in Philadelphia (Blackbird and Screamers sister shop) and was absolutely blown away by how it was cooked; it tasted exactly like chicken skin and the texture was on point! Definitely not something I ever thought I would eat again.
Ahhh I have to try this! I didn't know Hodo sold yuba -- I'll have to try to find it! I get mixed results depending on the brand from the Asian market.
So I only have dried tofu skins, but it should work if I dehydrated them first, right? You know what I'm just gonna try it lol I think the dried kind ("dried bean curd") might be more readily available to some and it's super inexpensive also
no but I'm sure it would work! the only thing is I would think it needs to remain in one layer and not a pile so the air fryer is too small and it would be far less time - and probably a little lower in temp
Wow! Do you think this is what they use to make that amazing crispy duck at Chu Chai restaurant in Montreal? Looking forward to seeing you do more cool stuff with this!
you can probably get it at asian grocers it may be listed as bean curd or bean curd skins, i've mainly seen dried in melbourne but you would just have to rehydrate it
Have you ever tried the premade veg bacon? What do you think? I have made the bacon from the book and it's delicious, however for convenience sake, I buy the premade. Also, I've been able to turn my 3 kids onto the veg bacon 100%- and none of them are vegetarian, so it's a small win here in my home.
I've officially had it up to HERE with us vegans finding things to turn into things. Lol This has to be the weirdest plant swap I've come across so far.
no waaaay - have you seen the nasty banana peel "pulled pork" 😳🙄 this ain't weird at all, just an uncommon ingredient in North America. Popular in Asia!
I really wish you could bring your “recipeee” segment back. This “level up” thing is not as inspiring as the other videos 🥺🥺 I’ve been a fan for years I understand this is something that you definitely want to do and maybe it makes you happier. I still stop by every once in a while.
This looks delicious. Just so you know I can barely ever listen to cooking videos (or any videos) that have background music. (Watch Adam Ragusea for an example of peaceful recipe sharing. There are many others, but he's who came to mind - sorry he's not vegan.) Just the underlying droning sound of the music is unpleasant to me. A little tiny music at the end or something is fine. I just thought you might like to try it and see if you get more viewers. Thanks for all your delicious food.
No one else noticed the person at the door?
Lol me, he looked like he was landscaping
I went to the comments to see if anyone else noticed. LOL
looked like a pest control service to me.

Thanks Lauren!
😊 thank you
I needed this video! There’s nothing better than Lauren making an epic meal and then taking a bite at the end! We stan an old school HFF video!
hahah 🤓
The person who is reading this comment, i wish you great success, health, love and happiness..
To you too!
Over here in Asia we have yuba that has already been deep fried called "foo chok". It's so tasty and delicious fried or braised.
yes I'm sure there are endless traditional ways its used in asia!
I never really liked bacon, so it makes me happy I don’t need to replace it. I have done smoked eggplant “bacon” before and it was great. I want to try this!
eggplant works too! 🍆
I just ordered some yuba! Can't wait to try this!
I heard from Sauce stache did a video about yuba and some asian stores sell yuba. I'll have to look for it!
I just voted for you 2021 veggie awards!! 🏆 💜🌱
thanks so much Laurie!
Yuba BLTs are my childhood favorite! Kathy Hoshijo from Kathy Cooks made it in the 80’s 😉 You can find yuba at Asian grocers. 😋
COOOL!
I am starting my day with your banana muffins, and I think I am going to look for yuba skins today for dinner (think it will be good in v. creamy pasta!!!).. literally hot for food all day!!!!! Thank you for sharing Lauren! Love ya!!!! 💖
YUM! so exciting
Vegan bacon 🥓 is so good! I love using shiitake mushrooms 🍄
The craving is real! Yuba sheets added to the Asian Market list ❤
That sandwich looks incredible 🤤
thanks!! it ISSSS
I wasn’t weirded out until you compared it to leather face lol
Vegan cooking IS fun! That yuba bacon & garlic mayo looks 🔥
Omggg that brand makes Thai curry nuggets (tofu) and they're soooo good. I put them on bamboo skewers, broiled inside, and served with a coconut peanut sauce. I haven't seen the yuba sheets in my store :(
This bacon looks so good Lauren! Great job girl🤩 I’m gonna have to look for this product.
It's so good! thank yaaaa
Lauren please make vegan soy wings with yuba as the skin! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Sounds amazing! I never thought of yuba bacon. Awesome
They sell that liquid smoke at Kroger, it’s also my fav!
love how this is "new" in America, yet Asian's been eating this for centuries :)
yes yes I know. But its not like we could get it easily
@@hotforfood great job, nonetheless!
That’s the liquid smoke I buy in Edmonton (Canada)! At Safeway :) They have a couple different kinds like mesquite and hickory
oh good, glad to know it made its way to Canada cause I never saw it when I lived in Toronto
Omg yes I have this bean curd in the cupboard! Gonna make this tomorrow so excited. This looks amazinggggggggg. Probably gonna do bacon pancakes 😍😭
Thanks for the recipe, Lauren. I’ve been missing the yuba bacon BLT, from Bloomers, in Toronto, which they had pre-COVID.
oh no way! I had never had it :D love Bloomers!
Colgin Liquid Smoke tastes less chemically because it is Natural Hickory (or apple wood or pecan or mesquite) Smoke flavor. No chemicals to taste. The Best stuff out there.
Nothing like a good sandwich. Yum
I used tofu sheets and pan fried them... delicious! Crunchy and chewy like real bacon.
Great idea!!
I tried yuba for the first time at 20th St Pizza in Philadelphia (Blackbird and Screamers sister shop) and was absolutely blown away by how it was cooked; it tasted exactly like chicken skin and the texture was on point! Definitely not something I ever thought I would eat again.
Oh wow! ya sounds wonderful!
When I used to eat meat, I loved chicken skin! I hope my nearest Asian market sells this as I'm excited about experimenting with it!
Aw! Lovely! Thanks for sharing the knowledge!
My mouth is watering! Gonna keep an eye out for yuba skins 👀
Ahhh I have to try this! I didn't know Hodo sold yuba -- I'll have to try to find it! I get mixed results depending on the brand from the Asian market.
Running, not walking, to pick up Yuba right now!
woo hoo!
I am DROOOOOOLING. Love yuba. Had a hard time finding it until recently! 💕
oh good but ya found it!
How is this stored and how long does it last?
I had never heard of yuba before but now I need to find it!
I want to make this NOW! Hopefully I can find it here. I'm drooling 🤤🤤🤤
The yuba reminded me of the skin lamp from AHS Asylum. Yikes!! I do love Mississippi Vegan's tofu bacon so I'm sure I'd love this too.
bahaha
i need to try this, the hunt for yuba skins begins! :)
you look so good Lauren! i love this recipe
I love this ! Thank you Lauren
Please make a vegan : dates stuffed with goat cheese wrapped in bacon
this would be perfect for that idea!
I just tried the Spero brand "the goat" sunflower-based vegan goat cheese. I spread it on a date when I read this comment. Truly delicious. Thank you!
Yum.
How do you store yuba? How long can you keep Yuba? Can it be frozen??
it comes vaccum sealed or dried so it'll last forever. I freeze the vaccum packs when I stock up!
@@hotforfood Thank you!
For some reason I’ve always hated liquid smoke 😖 but there’s a bunch of other ways I’ve found to make things have that bacon taste!
Smoked paprika😀
honestly this colgin brand is really good
this sounds amazing! i’m definitely gonna make these sandwiches this weekend!!
Hope you enjoy
Is yuba in the dairy case? Frozen? .... or is it shelf stable?
its vaccum packed in the fridge section by tofu. OR some people have found it dry so you'd have to re hydrate
Omg yummmmmm! I need to find some yuba skin 🤤 and I love how you have your garlic powder in a huge canister! Hahahaha
usually its more full! LOL
I'm definitely trying this out!
Could you cut these into strips for a pasta replacement? Would you boil them like pasta for this purpose?
yup you could! Here they are - same brand - as noodles amzn.to/3quu1sD
hot for food thank you!!
Omg it looks so freaking good im so hungry now 🤩🤩🤩
is this the same as bean curd sheets?
Looking gorgeous, Lauren !
Yuuuuuuuum!!!!!!! Thank you Lauren!!!!!!!!
Hope you like it!
Yum-Oooo! Can't wait to make it!
OH Jesus that looks soooo fucking good!! I love your food excitement dance!! Love you.
I’ve never had a BLT and now I want one 🤤
OMG what! get on it haha
@@hotforfood bacon freaked me out when I ate meat but I’m going grocery shopping today so I’m gonna HAVE TO!🙌🏼
How do like your espresso machine? I have been debating whether to get that one or the Delonghi Dedica.
I love mine but it is manual, so it doesn't stop automatically. That would be my only peeve
@@hotforfood thanks for replying. I think I'll get the Dedica Deluxe because it have a smaller footprint on the counter.
Different and delicious
So I only have dried tofu skins, but it should work if I dehydrated them first, right? You know what I'm just gonna try it lol
I think the dried kind ("dried bean curd") might be more readily available to some and it's super inexpensive also
Did it work?
@@hotforfood yes it worked wonderfully :)
Mind-blowing! Have you tried making this in the air fryer?
no but I'm sure it would work! the only thing is I would think it needs to remain in one layer and not a pile so the air fryer is too small and it would be far less time - and probably a little lower in temp
I can’t get my hands on fresh yuba, but I can order dried. Would that work? Any suggestions for the best way to hydrate, before marinading it?
oh interesting! I'm sure google has the answers. Assuming you'd just soak it in water for a bit. But make sure to dry it off before marinading!
@@hotforfood best I could find, if anyone else needs to use dry yuba: th-cam.com/video/f8jckUJAGz8/w-d-xo.html
Soooo yummmm!!!! Thanks!!!
Wow! Do you think this is what they use to make that amazing crispy duck at Chu Chai restaurant in Montreal? Looking forward to seeing you do more cool stuff with this!
yes possibly!! I love Chu Chai!
I bet you could use it as “pork skins” also if you deep fried them. 🤷🏼♀️
Yummmm i need to see if I can find this near me!
Amazing!
Thanks!
Nice recipes
I bought that brand of liquid smoke not too long ago at Highland Farms in the GTA! Also would beancurd sheets do the same job as the yuba?
Oh nice!!!! I am not sure. IS the beancurd sheet thin? I would think so
@@hotforfood I think so? I want to try this out! Looks so good 😍 thanks for the recipe!
Dat looks gooooood
Wow, I have the same salt and pepper containers.
Is yuba the same thing as the fried/seasoned inari tofu skin?
no !
Leatherface!! LOL
i need to try this, the hunt for yuba skins begins
I need to find out where they sell yuba skin. I wonder of wholefoods carriers it.
that's where I got mine, but it wasn't the closest location to me. I also linked it to amazon grocery in the blog post
I like to get some protein in my meals. This will do the trick vs rice paper, carrot, potato etc.
yup totally~you can also do thin sliced tofu! bake for longer
Can’t wait to make this. But I can’t find yuba noodles. I only find flavored yuba 😕
this was great, hope I can find some tofu skin here in Sydney. Also when you said the yuba has more "sustenant'' I think you meant substance :D
you can probably get it at asian grocers it may be listed as bean curd or bean curd skins, i've mainly seen dried in melbourne but you would just have to rehydrate it
I think she was saying "sustenance," i.e. that it has more nourishment/nutrition as a soy product than rice paper does.
Awesome
Cool!!!
what would you think if i do not include the liquid smoke? It’s just difficult to find here
you can use smoked paprika alone, might not be as strong but still delicious!
Have you ever tried the premade veg bacon? What do you think? I have made the bacon from the book and it's delicious, however for convenience sake, I buy the premade. Also, I've been able to turn my 3 kids onto the veg bacon 100%- and none of them are vegetarian, so it's a small win here in my home.
yup. I use lightlife sometimes, but I always go back to just making a batch of my own more often then not because its just superior LOL
Did anyone else notice the delivery guy in the background? In Blue's Clues singing..." You just got a package!"
Looked like a gardener spraying the weeds
its the lawn dude!
Weird!! I want to try it but it freaks me out too lmao it looks good!
That brand of liquid smoke is here now! My local Metro has 4 different flavours. Agreed it’s better, my bottles just always leak. 😂
AMAZING!
Good job.... 👍
I miss BLT sandwiches. May have to try this one 😋
It's so good!
omg yum
Wonderful😎
Did anyone notice the guy at the door? 😂😂
Great
That same liquid smoke is found at walmart as well.
GREAT!
Nice video

this video isn't a level up. its just how to make bacon and a sandwich lol

I guess its like a TV thing. In TV - every tv show has background sound and music. pretty sure, like food network is my reference.
