I have estimated, based on gearing ratios, that DFGT should have about 85% of torque of G-series wheels, and 60% of their maximum motorised turning speed. Gear depthing would drift less with time on G-series, while DFGT is less susceptible to encoder wheel failure. So neither is actually designed to last beyond 5-10 years of typical use, but then, it would be a little silly to expect them to be.
I had a Thrustmaster Ferrari Experience that I used for about a year and it was a really great wheel, bought it second hand for around £30, it was a little bit of a cheap wheel but it worked on all of the latest racing titles (Project Cars 2, Assetto Corsa, FH4 etc) Lovely wheel and all that had loads of fun using it, but one of the biggest gripes with the wheel was the fact it only had 180 degree steering which made it unrealsitic. I will be honest I should have known more about the LDFG I would have most likely gone for it rather than the TFE as it just logically was way better in every single way. Even so, I eventually upgraded my TFE to a Logitech G920 with the H-Shifter and so far it hasn't let me down and it feels 100 times better than my Thrustmaster (I could probably list loads of things) But what may be quite a brain twister is that if I had owned a LDFG rather than a TFE I would have most likely not upgraded until around a few years later even considering that niether have the option of extras such as H-Shifters or Pedal upgrades that some of the more expensive steering wheels have.
Logitech wheels just don't have enough power, really. I drift in sims and like to use 900 degrees when possible and Logitech wheels do not have enough power to return *without* assists.
Cody Herbert To be honest, allot of games cant make the wheel come back, even if a wheel is more powerful. Games like Assetto Corsa and LFS utilise the full power for the g27, if you go past the full power of a g27 you could strain your wrist easily.
Dropped into a Salvo 2nd hand shop the other day looking for random stuff that pops up on their shelves and saw a Driving Force GT box with a $18 sticker on it. Took a gamble as the dude said if it didn't work i could return it within 7 days. Got home and opened it up and as far as i can see it hasn't got a scratch on it and looks new, even had a 4k HDMI cable with it (no idea why but i'll take it lol). Now after a little configuration i have spent the last 3 days cruising around in GTAV with music cranking just driving around re exploring everything with a steering wheel in first person mode. Just getting out on that highway and putting pedal to the metal weaving thru traffic is so fun and i even don't mind the slower pace in the city obeying road rules and traffic flow. 😀
I have a Genius Twinwheel F1 that I got in '13, which developed twitching issues a few months ago. Seeing the dfgt was the same price used is disappointing
I know I'm very late to the video but I recently picked up a used g27 on gumtree for $150 as well, only fault was that the shift cap falls off due to the clips being broken
Have the dfgt for 2 1/2~ years. Can't regret. All though I have some tips for you if you have some problems with the wheel. Don't ever overtighten the shifter with a wrench or a socket wrench. (if it falls off or something like that), metal bar...or screw will like crumble up the plastic inside the shifter. (it doesn't affect the performance of the wheel of anything like that.) it's just a "cosmetic" problem. It feels weird at first, but you can get used to it. Loved the wheel. Although the pedal cable was "naked"; the inner cables after the black isolation thing was pulled somehow when i bought it. I think that is my problem. (this causes in pedals like glitching;turning on/off, working not properly.) This is why I am interested in a g27. The noise...the most frustrating part of the wheel. It's so loud that my sister can hear it loud and clear downstairs. And this is the wheel I learned to drift on. This is why i love this wheel so much. Loved to start from 270 degrees to 360 to 540 to 720 to 900. Thanks to LetsTestDrive I learned this method. (because i was driving with a 30$~ crappy wheel with 180 degrees of angle all the time before buying the dfgt.) 8/10 -2 (-1 because of the forcefeedback being a bit frustrating; a bit weak.) (-1 because of the noise level.)
Good review dude, thanks for that. I've never used the DFGT so the sound comparison was quite an eye opener for me. As you say though, when you have the game sound cranked up, you don't really notice the noise. However, I quite often drive late when everyone is in bed, so the GT may have been an issue for me had I gone that route.
+Tux McBea Which wheel did you grab? I feel your pain though. Although the wheel is quieter, changing gears at anything faster than grandma pace can cause a bit of a racket.
I bought the G27. To be fair, it isn't "that" noisy and I tend to use paddles anyway, but by comparison from your video, the DFGT would probably upset 'er indoors! XD
I cannot find the tool to make my Driving Force GT with Forza Horion 3 & Forza Horizon 4.. the forum keep telling ACCESS DENiED... is there a way to have the program to make it work on Windows 10 ..? Thanks in advance
Nice video, thanks for the comparison :D That DFGT sound is so lovely, can't wait to get one after my finals. Do you think that people in the opposing could sleep when I play with it at night or is it that loud?
Ok which one is better for trucking simulator i thought I heard you mention ATS im not a racer sim just a trucking and need a upgrade for better feel/experience
Have you ever had a problem with the g27 where after it calibrates it moves slightly off kilter and as you turn it goes more off center? If so,do you have a fix? I'm having that problem atm.
Someone's been using Cockpit Shine!! xD Nice vid. I had a DFGT for 4 years. i still have it because it's too knackered to sell. The gearing/belt on the inside is slipping which means after 15 mins of play the wheel is pointing at 1 o'clock in order to go straight. Had to keep unplugging to re-calibrate. I upgraded to G27 and the first thing I notice was how much smoother it is - less notchy, and the pedals are infinitely better. I do miss the horn button on the DFGT tho' !!!
+RTR - Banger I didn't use ANY shine, I swear! Must have been the lighting :x If that was happening to my wheel I'd be taking it apart and seeing if there are any loose or dirty connections. After that many years something may have just come loose and needs a tighten up.
Alright, so I currently have a DFGT and have had one for about a year. I enjoy sim racing a lot and would like to pick up a wheel with a clutch and H shifter. However, the g27 seems very expensive nowadays and i'm wondering about the g25 being a good alternative. Just looking for some help.
i use a logitech extreme 3d pro as an ebrake....i face it towards me (opposite if i fly) and pull down on it and it works like charm i WISH some1 would use the internals of a flight stick to make an H pattern because moving it around pretending to shift feels far more natural
Left hand shifter placement or right hand? well if you're right handed I'd Recommend the left hand placement if you're left handed I'd recommend the right hand placement, if you're like me and can work with either side don't bother caring, if you're used to right hand seat manual cars then I'd probably go for that setup, (yes not all cars are built with left hand side driver seats)
Got my G27 today for $200 after the gumtree suggestion, (Cheers) was considering the DFGT but figured the clutch & shifter would be more future proof, either would have been a decent upgrade over my old 180° DF but i couldnt be happier with the G27, especially because i was toying with the idea of buying a G29 before seeing this video
+rFactortest But the thing is i have an budget of 200€ and the g27 is for 180€ on an dutch craiglist/secondhand seller site. And i can find an other cheap wheel with h shifter and clutch. Or clutch usb pedals and usb shifter for the price
+rFactortest Hmn your right. Just an offtopic thingy what in gonna say now: So i said budget is 200€ thats because i for my birthday i wanted an pc upgrade and the rest of the money i wanted to buy an new wheel. But i can also switch it up. Getting that wheel for my birthday and an smaller pc upgrade. I dont know if you know something from pc's but if got an I5-3500P 3.01 Ghz and an amd R9 280X 3Gb and 8gb ram so i dont realy know if the pc upgrade is realy nessacary. So maybe tips of what i should go for?
Mmm your right. I can actualy run nearly all games at normal at an stable 60fps. But if looked up, in the netherlands an g29 is 400 Euro plus H shifter. Is there not for that money an cheaper steering wheel plus h shifter and clutch?
Thanks for the bit of an research. After this message im gonna look for some more stores. The reason why i realy want an shifter is, is i think i play more simulation games (like ETS2 ATS and etc) then racing games. I still like racing games but just the h shifter gives me an much more realistich feeling. So that whas one of the reasons that i wanted the g27. I believe your statements with that it takes space up. But i just want the simulation games to be as realistic as possible with an shifter so that you realy get the feeling that you need to shift correctly and with your clutch. So thats one of the reasons. Im gonna search soe more for cheap prices and will let you know what i found. Marijn,
Ah thanks for the tip. If got an idea, so my birthday is in september the 18e. Then when my brithday is over i can check how much money i have. See whats fits my budget. and in the mean time maybe head over to mediamarkt to tell them about the price change and maybe test gthe wheel somewhere. I will let you know. Marijn,
Will the dfgt be fine for rally car games such as dirt rally. Or is there a better option. Im would probably prefer a all round combo so i could maybe latter get into other racing sims such as iracing
I downloaded this driver for my dfgt and it has worked fine with no issues. support.logi.com/hc/en-sg/articles/360024699474--Downloads-Driving-Force-GT
In Assetto Corsa the steering deadzone has no affect, but in ETS and ATS it is very annoying since on highway drive i'm usually in that deadzone and slight steering adjustments can be very choppy since you have to center the wheel yourselfy Otherwise the FFB is pretty smooth, except in ETS and ATS but thats the games fault. I like that it has so many buttons, the fake leather is a huge upgrade from the rubber rim on my F430 and the pedals are great too. In my opinion all wheels are slightly overpriced, for what it is the G27 shouldn't have been 300 dollars. I totally understand Fanatecs higher price but Logitech and Thrustmaster wheels could use a price adjustment. We used to call our friends DFGT Dead Cat since it's so lound kinda what it sounded like lol
+Penta YOOO I remember taking a LONG time to set up the FFB in ETS with my DFGT, it felt way too light in the center until I changed something (Can't remember what), but I just copied over my settings and it seemed identical/minimal deadzone. You could always try my settings, as if you're good in AC it's definitley an ETS setting issue.
LetsTestDrive The thing is since in games like DiRT Rally and AC you gay way faster so you wont notice it as much. It seems though that on ETS the deadzone is a big bigger, it also could be my wheel
Why do people love the g27 so much? It's so much worse than the G25, the only thing it has better is more fucking buttons & it's a bit quiter. For the rest the rim is smaller, it has less force feedback, the shifter has no clicking sound at all which just doesn't feel right, no sequential, weird leather on the shifter (same with the g29, the G25 has a way smoother leather wrapped around the shifter). The G25 is just so much better in so many catagories!
It really depends if you want a a clutch + h pattern shifter. I don't think I could ever go back to a wheel setup without a clutch+shifter, only because I love drifting + driving manual cars so much.
Well i dont play drift i only play racing Project Cars and Assetto Corsa i was thinking to get Thrustmaster T150 is that ok or i can get something better for that price? :D
try to get an used g27,even if you dont drift you will enjoy even more to shift trough the gears by yourself, and you can downshift faster with the h shifter
just picked up DFGT for AU$20 - i didnt know it existed and was about to drop $350 on a G29 or G920. will be great to test the waters!! I wish i had done something like this with HOTAS before my $230 X52 sat on shelf gathering dust XD oops
yeah, me too. So I went to a porn shop and asked about the vibration since it was important for the fun and feeling in the device, and they gave me something that did not resemble a steeringwheel at all. :/
I wish I knew the DF GT existed T_T I got some shitty trust wheel (seems like the clone of the GT) for the same price as a used df gt. I am now finally upgrading to the g27.
Good videos. Technical question on this interface aspect in particular: Is it realistic to use the G27 setup to teach a young person how to drive before real-life manual clutch (stick-shift) gearchanges, and conversely, can I make it go into a mode that 'ignores' the clutch pedal so I can drive myself in games, as if with automatic transmission? I have discovered, my health condition is exacerbated and indeed almost caused, by manual gearchange cars (hip & joint problems/sciatica/back problems), and so in real life only drive auto xmission cars. However, it might be best if our daughters learned manual changes. What's your opinion? The clutch etc action realistic enough to make it a decent introduction to real-world hand-foot coordination and so on? Like when it 'bites'? Also, thanks, I Enjoyed and found useful the other vids on Asetto Corsa and rfactor2, because EA and Apple are combining forces to kill Real Racing 3 on my ipad 4! For myself, obvs, I would just get the DF GT setup, but with eldest being on the 'edge of seventeen', it changes the reasons for buying slightly.
I think the G27 would be great at teaching an up and coming driver the "basics" of muscle memory when driving and shifting through a manual. One thing it can't do is teach the smoothness/fluidity needed when shifting at normal road driving speeds. As you'd know it takes a certain finesse to change gears smoothly without the car jolting/jumping/jarring/etc but in all the games I've played you can be pretty rough/fast/sloppy with the clutch and shifter and it will make no difference. Maybe it's different for guys who use motion rigs, as they may be getting feedback via jolts for bad/mistimed gear changes, but I'm not sure. There really is no "feedback" provided for clutch bite, especially when taking off, besides visually noticing your car move. Everything feels quite dead/bland in that regard. I don't think any of these games and clutch/shifter combos were designed to replicate/simulate "normal/slow" daily driving. Now with that all being said, at racing speed it's a lot of fun, and I think it would be a great "basic" introduction to what's needed when driving a manual transmission. It's just the "finesse" that will need to be learnt when jumping into a real car. Maybe check out City Car Driving if you're wanting more of a teaching aid for driving, as I *think* that's what it was designed for. As for "ignoring" the clutch, all the games I've played have some kind of "auto clutch" option, so you can still use the H pattern shifter and not have to worry about the clutch. You can also use the paddle shifters without the clutch, or go full automatic. All the options are there.
sleekitwan I know it's a late reply, but to whoever will be reading this i can say that i've purchased g27 precisely for learning how to drive manual transmission cars before jumping in the real car. A year after the purchase I can confirm that this was a good investment as g27 allowed me to learn the basics of driving and i am now driving a real car for more than half a year. The only downside of the g27 (and every other pc wheel setup) is, as has been already mentioned, that you will need to spend some time to learn smoothness of shifting to avoid jolting of the real car when shifting gears as g27 obviously will not provide you with this type of feedback.

Even so, I eventually upgraded my TFE to a Logitech G920 with the H-Shifter and so far it hasn't let me down and it feels 100 times better than my Thrustmaster (I could probably list loads of things)
But what may be quite a brain twister is that if I had owned a LDFG rather than a TFE I would have most likely not upgraded until around a few years later even considering that niether have the option of extras such as H-Shifters or Pedal upgrades that some of the more expensive steering wheels have.
Bought a brand new DFGT in singapore for about AUD65. Pretty worth it still!
How's it holding up after 2 years? Did you buy another wheel later on?
get an joystick and use it as an handbrake for the g27
+caddy That's definitely the easiest option.
and the cheapest one
+caddy Get a keyboard and use space as handbreak
Mehmet Cumhur nope, better use an button from the shifter as the handbrake
DFGT + Fanatec pedals + Fanatec shifter + Use the DFGT shifter for handbrake
Shits good.
i have DFGT + Th8a shifter + DIY clutch + DFGT shifter as handbrake
+pepe the frog no reason buy an expensive Logitech because they are shit anyway lol
No point in going cheap really. If you already have the DFGT you can slowly upgrade to Fanatec/Thrustmaster etc with your own preferred setup
Man... In 2021, your video help me take an decision. Thanx from Brazil.
I still have my Driving force gt. It does the job for now. Planing on getting a g29
Watching your videos is a pleasure. You made it very professionally.
Love my G27. Picked it up with pedals and shifter for $100 locally.
$100? Lucky. In my country they sell it for $200-225. Even g29 is sold for $150-200
Dropped into a Salvo 2nd hand shop the other day looking for random stuff that pops up on their shelves and saw a Driving Force GT box with a $18 sticker on it.
I own both and got G27 yesterday
I know I'm very late to the video but I recently picked up a used g27 on gumtree for $150 as well, only fault was that the shift cap falls off due to the clips being broken
Ok I can't focus on the actual content anymore, all I can hear is the rap, haha. This is just awesome
Ahh my time is done with the DFGT, I neeeeed the G27
I got a driving force for 40$ and i mainly use it for ETS2 and ATS . Occasionaly MSC and it works super great with those games
I have a DFGT, CSR pedals, and TH8A shifter for playing truck simulators. I only use my G27 for things like Gran Turismo.
Great combo! The amount of easily accessible buttons on the DFGT definitely give it an advantage for the ETS series of games.
My father bought the logitech dfgt in 2011 and i still have it and it still works perfectly
Wow! I am breathess! Excellent stuff! Just snagged a GT off of FB for pennies, looking forward to picking it up!
XD
Should do a video on the Logitech momo wheel
CEX in the UK got the DFGT doen to £42 at the moment ;)
Sound like rapping on beat
I feel like you listened to the backing track while you recorded the audio. It is ridiculously on beat, you natural musician you 🤣👍
One of the greatest reviews of all time . Great job mate
I cannot find the tool to make my Driving Force GT with Forza Horion 3 & Forza Horizon 4.. the forum keep telling ACCESS DENiED... is there a way to have the program to make it work on Windows 10 ..? Thanks in advance
Absolutely agree with your review. It's so nice to watch a well made, quick fire review, rather than hours of waffling :-)
well explained,my DFGT is coming tommorow!
thanks for clarifying :D
1:22 pls tell me mod for rfactor!!!
Drift settings for G27?
Nice video, thanks for the comparison :D That DFGT sound is so lovely, can't wait to get one after my finals. Do you think that people in the opposing could sleep when I play with it at night or is it that loud?
Ok which one is better for trucking simulator i thought I heard you mention ATS im not a racer sim just a trucking and need a upgrade for better feel/experience
Have you ever had a problem with the g27 where after it calibrates it moves slightly off kilter and as you turn it goes more off center? If so,do you have a fix? I'm having that problem atm.
Go full rotation lock to lock on either sides
I have the G27 and G290 and there awesome and great vid btw
Robert Henry I’m in the exact same situation lol
Great video m8!
i use a logitech extreme 3d pro as an ebrake....i face it towards me (opposite if i fly) and pull down on it and it works like charm
i WISH some1 would use the internals of a flight stick to make an H pattern because moving it around pretending to shift feels far more natural
Mine for 150$ second hand
Nice video. I want G27 because i want to feel like a drive a real car. Thanks man!
Omfgg what's the wire called for the small circle with 1 pin sticking out link it I dk what it's called
Всё чётко сказано. Спасибо за помощь в выборе!
Should i upgrade from an DFGT To an g27?
+Harrison Sloan Both of these "wheels" are absolutely fine, the deciding factor really comes down to whether YOU want a h pattern shifter + clutch.
Interesting. I plan on buying a DFGT for approximately 40€. I'ee Seen a G27 for 150€. It seem a good price. But it's too expensive for me right now.
what settings you use for dgft in game and in Logitech profiler to drift and any race ?
My full settings for the DFGT in the profiler and AC can be found in the description section of this video: th-cam.com/video/sNdEPrm2_E0/w-d-xo.html
Thank's ! :-)
which program do you use for rotate it for sound??
Qin tiyy you don't need a program for that lol xD it always does that everytime you boot up the wheel
it does that every time as that's the calibration for the wheel and force feedback
can you use the G27 shifter in the same way as the DFGT shifter?
Nope! Not unless you put a rubber band on it. Search for "g27 sequential shifter mod"
Buy a g25 :)
what's that game where the guy is drifting in? 6:48 please tell me, i forgot the name! :)
Assetto Corsa.
oh okay, thank you! :) btw you should make more videos like these! they're great! keep it up! :)
Thanks dude. It helped me a lot :)
what would u recommend for gran turismo 6?
Jazz DFGT
DuGong thanks
Jazz The DFGT is Gran Turismo 5 Edition so it's compactible with 6 too
I've watched this video like a million times already, and I understand what it is about. But your content is just so good I keep coming back!
Profiler settings for g27 drifting in corsa?
very well produced video!
My freaking g27 coming middle of 13 days fuck yeah
Excellent! :P
LetsTestDrive i have it :P
I have a drive force gt is it worth me getting the g27?
what's the cheapest way to add a hand brake to g27? I need it for dirt rally
A joystick.
thanks dude i bought one today and am having a blast. I don't know how id didn't think of it 10 bucks on craigslist :p
No problem, I picked mine too for 10 euros :p
anyone got drivers for The Driving Force GT?
Thx, TractorGuy19
I downloaded this driver for my dfgt and it has worked fine with no issues.
support.logi.com/hc/en-sg/articles/360024699474--Downloads-Driving-Force-GT
Found a DRiving Force GT brand new on craigslist for $50 Score!
Do either wheel work with the ps4?
The g27 is awesome
does it work with city car driving?
Can the Dfgt work on windows 11?
Thank you man! :)
your reviews are super..keep it up.. I am looking the GT too...Wish there would be xone support too
Why would you go into a porn shop to buy a racing wheel? *click, click, click, DING* Ohhh, I know what he really said now.
+Zuon94 I think they only call them "porn" shops in the states. I was just trying to cover all bases :P
+Zuon94 I thought the same thing.
+LetsTestDrive you mean a pawn shop?
Yes I meant/said "pawn" shop haha
Why do people love the g27 so much? It's so much worse than the G25, the only thing it has better is more fucking buttons & it's a bit quiter. For the rest the rim is smaller, it has less force feedback, the shifter has no clicking sound at all which just doesn't feel right, no sequential, weird leather on the shifter (same with the g29, the G25 has a way smoother leather wrapped around the shifter). The G25 is just so much better in so many catagories!
What should i get for around 200e? Used g27 or new GT or new Thrustmaster T150 or something else? :D
try to get an used g27,even if you dont drift you will enjoy even more to shift trough the gears by yourself, and you can downshift faster with the h shifter
well ok ty for advice :D
just picked up DFGT for AU$20 - i didnt know it existed and was about to drop $350 on a G29 or G920. will be great to test the waters!! I wish i had done something like this with HOTAS before my $230 X52 sat on shelf gathering dust XD oops
When he said pawn shops I heard porn shops lol
Same here, but it just added to my enjoyment of the video. :)
yeah, me too.
Use in yours wheels DFGT
USB H-Shifter ACT-LABS
www.act-labs.com/race10.htm
Usb connect =D
one FFB joystick is good enough ;)
Pickrd up a dfgt for,50 bucks. Pretty good deal.
The GT driving Force is almost the same of the GT2000 a spec wheel for Ps2
is "driving force pro" good for ets2 if it costs 40$ sorry my english plz answer fast. and is DFGT better than DFPro and if are how much. again really sorry for my english
Sorry, I've never used a DFPro and don't know anything about it, so I can't comment.
k ty
ther about the same if I were u go for the cheaper option cause I played 500hrs on ets2 just with the dfpro but yes defonatly dfgt is better for ets2 sry for spelling
@LetsTestDrive is the driving force gt good for simulation
For PC sim titles, absolutely.
