One small detail i love is how Toothless is protecting Hiccup until the end from the possible threat of his own father. It isn't until Stoic apologizes that Toothless reveals Hiccup. That, plus him being a little s towards Astrid until she apologizes. He is petty, but fair
@@samandmariachannel I could be projecting what my Rottweiler was like. They have a rep for being scary but are actually massive softies that want belly rubs and sit on your feet. They will jump in front of you if they don’t trust a stranger though. Toothless reminds me of big dogs. Not little ones so much.
46:33 If you pay close attention, after being released from the cage and into the arena, the first thing the fire dragon wanted to do was escape, but since he found no way of doing that, he focused his attention on Hiccup. It's the fight or flight instinct. And he almost trusted Hiccup before being scared by the loud noise Stoic made. I don't think there are bad dragons, just less trusting ones based around their experience with vikings and their animalistic nature
So many people see the scene of toothless trying to draw and write it off as just a bunch of scribbles, when it’s really him trying to draw a portrait of Hiccup, the way Hiccup drew one of him ❤
Fun fact! At around 23:51 Toothless flinches before putting his head in Hiccup's hand. This was actually an animation error at first, but the directors liked it so much they kept it in.
Errors being cool must have been rife in this movie, that's how they ended up with Toothless' eye open when panning past his wing when Hiccup first is looking at him.
15:11 I actually like that none of them really succeeded in the first lesson. Yes, some did better than others, but it's realistic that no one could really beat a dragon on the first day of training.
I love these movies so much! I relate so hard to Maria dying from the cuteness and just love all of Toothless's cat behavior - definitely reminds me of my cat.
I love the how to train your dragon trilogy. I have my complaints with the other two and, while i still like them, it's the first one that I wouldn't change anything from. This movie truly is perfect as it is.
I adore the first one and I love the tv shows but as much as I wish I did, I just dont like the following movies. I always feel bad about it cause I know so many others love them and I cant even bring myself to like them.
I tend to think of it as a classical in the making. In order to be considered vintage something needs to be a least 20 years old and classic seems like it needs more time than that. I think 30-40 years a story is a classic cause at that point it can be a something multiple generations of kids have grown up with, sharing with younger siblings/family and for the older generation their owm kids. Thank you both so much for the reaction. Im glad you enjoyed it.
How To Train your Dragon is amazing 🤩🐉🐉the animation is stunning ❤ the story is great and it’s also really funny as well 🤣 and the music is beautiful 🩷 I also love all the characters but I especially love Hiccup the most because he is so relatable and love that he becomes friends with Toothless because there bond is adorable 🥰 and I like that Stoick learns to appreciate his son and embraces the dragons as well ❤️ also like how Hiccup and Astrid get together too ❤️❤️ thanks for reaction you guys and hopefully you do the other 2 moves in the series because there awesome as well 😁😉👍👍
I think it's safe to call it a modern classic, yes. It's certainly one of the best animated movies ever made. And the music is SO so good. Every time Hiccup and Toothless finally fly as one and weave through the rocks, and that theme kicks in? I get chills every. single. time. And between reactions and just watching it myself I must have seen the film a couple dozen times by now.
I think what a lot of people miss is that the whole point of Stoic wanting to get to the nest was to drive the dragons away. Since the vikings settled there, they have gotten attacked by them, and they wanted the dragons to find a new nest elsewhere. This is why they were screaming in victory when the dragons were running away.
I love this series. I hope you do all the movies they are all really good. Also, I totally acted just like Maria when I saw toothless start to warm to Hiccup. Sooo cute!!!!!!
Thanks so much! I’m totally with you as well. Being a blacksmith would help his physique a lot (unless they’re withholding food. Which I really hope not 😳) - Sam
Personally, I think the reason that the teenagers had the bodies they did was to complement the dragons they end up with. The dragons had different types of bodies to make them interesting varied.
2 moments that were mistakes but the animators kept in 1: Toothless' eye opening when Hiccup was about to kill him 2: The hesitation that Toothless showed when he leaned in for Hiccups hand Edit: When you said nobody is dying sense its a DreamWorks movie, I audibly said, "We call this foreshadowing."
I would highly recommend watching the shows(riders of berk & race to the edge), they add so much character, specifically for the kids & their dragons & theyre actually really good shows & keep the vibe of the movies (take place in between 1 & 2) Tuffnut best boy 🐔

The fact that the animators actually sat through aerodynamics classes to make the dragons' flying as realistic as possible is pure dedication.
Super impressive 😁 - Sam
Yeah they talk about it in the audio commentary, they called it flight school

HTTYD is my favourite animated trilogy. Toothless is like a combo of a dog and a cat in his behaviour and the result is adorable.
Totally fair. I'll have to watch him closer in the next movie, haven't seen any dog behaviour yet 😄 - Maria

Btw the “fire dragon” is a Monstrous Nightmare

How to Train your Dragon was the First Animated Flims to be Nominated Three or more Times in the Academy Award for Beat Animated Feature!
Wow, didn't know that. Thanks 😊 - Maria
@@samandmariachannelYou Welcome!
Its sad how animated, horror, and fantasy/scifi aren't respected properly by the academy and other such award shows.

I know the movie's soundtrack by heart. It still gets to me. John Powell made a masterpiece.
I get you, the music was really well done for this ✌️ - Sam
I am so jealous that you get to watch this for the first time.

genuinely one of the best movie soundtracks imo, Test Drive is so beautiful
DreamWorks can make great movies when they're passionate enough
Most definitely - Sam
I been having a stressful week so glad I can watch this tonight =)
I’m sorry to hear about your week. Good to hear our video could help you with that 😁 - Sam
You guys have definitely become one of my favourite couple reactors here.
Thank you so much 😁🙏 - Sam

We know that in the second movie, they're 20 years old, and they told us that they were fighting dragons 5 years ago. So they are 15 in this movie^^
Thanks 😊 - Maria
"If no one's told you this today, I love you." (Peter Monn)💙
They explaine why Toothless went with the other dragons and why they present offerings in the second movie

Its fascinating that absolutely everyone seems to miss that when Toothless draws the maze, he is making a road from Hiccup to him.

A classic indeed. And a beautiful trilogy/franchise.
One of mine and my sisters favourite movies! We actually saw it in theaters together. I loved this commentary, made me miss them a little bit more 😊

An absolutely amazing movie and trilogy! I can't wait for you both to react to the other movies.
Can’t wait as well 😄 - Maria
It is The Classic 🎉. Amazing film, and the soundtrack takes your breath away
My favorite animated franchise of all time. It is so soo perfect. Toothless is also the cutest dragon ever. 😍🥰
Delightful animation and story. Sweet & fun describes it well.
I mena Hiccup very much is a viking, he's pragmatic, yet stubborn and he has a very unhealthy disregard for personal safety.
missed the premier, but this was awesome to watch! loved this movie when it came out and its such a cute concept
Thanks so much!
I’m totally with you as well. Being a blacksmith would help his physique a lot (unless they’re withholding food. Which I really hope not 😳) - Sam
1:02:30 He's viking, proud and bold comes with the territory but above all a viking is pragmatic.
Fun fact: this is based on a book of the same title, but it had almost none of the same storyline. Basically just the names are the same.
I think any movie at least over 10 years old can be considered a classic, How to Train Your Dragon is definitely a classic Dreamworks movie.
Agreed 😁 - Sam
DEFINITELY A CLASSIC 😂 movie, one of the best trilogies ❤
Personally, I think the reason that the teenagers had the bodies they did was to complement the dragons they end up with. The dragons had different types of bodies to make them interesting varied.

7:00 The adults have Scottish accents (for some reason) the kids have american ones.
Sam & Maria, if you Din't know, but Actually Toohles is Made 50% of a Black Phanter and 50% Of a Bat
I'm not sure if someone mentioned this in the livestream (I wasn't able to join this time around), but Stoic was voiced by Gerard Butler.
It's a classic
I believe that the entirety of Toothless' design was based of one of the directors cats including the audio I read it somewhere but dont know where

Hiccup is Canadian, actually
He didn't draw Hiccup, he drew himself!

I like how they were celebrating Hiccup and his dad thought he was gone💀
Okay, but now you have to do the whole trilogy
