It wasn't just one person making the change, but Hiccup and Toothless together, building a relationship and finding new ways of being, then fighting against all the pressures that tried to tear them down. And they needed Astrid to be a supportive friend and gather the other kids. I guess my point is that one person can start a change, but big change happens when a community works together.
Did you notice the creators made a point of having Stoic apologise and assure Hiccup he is proud to call him his son BEFORE Hiccup killed the dragon and saved the day? They made sure we saw the father recognise his mistakes and show his love without it being reliant on the child’s success. I appreciate it so much.
The little detail of Stoic stumbling back in horror at what he said to Hiccup after he'd told him that he wasn't his son is what redeems him from real hate from the audience until he gives the full apology.
Its his true feelings coz Stoic knows his son could die going after the big dragon, he knew it might be the last time he could tell his son how he truly feels, which made it feel not out of nowhere
I love how when Astrid said "To protect your pet dragon, are you serious?!" And Hiccup said a firm "Yes." You can just see Astrid's respect for him go up. Like, yeah, he's weird for that. But he stands by it. That's respectable.
I love that moment too! Earlier, Hiccup was always seemingly just goofing around during training sessions, and he had this image that he wasn't taking seriously the dragons and the Berkians' war against them, and all of that was annoying Astrid. So when she saw him, for what probably feels like the first time, finally treat something very seriously and bravely stand for it, that surprised and impressed her.
Part of what I think Astrid respects is he is not shy or uneasy about his choice. He voices his allegiance and is unapologetic when doing so. He knows he is making the right call. Good women respect men that know what is right and do it without apology or shying away.
Exactly. Also I don’t think it’s exactly weird that he allied with the dragons. He knows they’re not truly evil and knows the others would just kill the dragons and outcast him without batting an eye. Hiccup just needed time to make a plan that wouldn’t get Toothless killed. That’s why he said no.
Little side fact: Hiccup actually lost his foot because when Toothless tired to save him, he tried to bite the nearest thing to him, which was Hiccups foot. It's a nice touch because Toothless lost his tail wing because of Hiccup and now they both are basically amputees and it also happens to be both on their left sides.
@@naylisyazwina6836 I mean, they pretty much confirmed it in the second movie when Hiccups mother asked about toothless only having one tail wing and he said that it was his fault but Toothless got him back, so now he also has a peg leg.
@@michellehawk282 the parallels are perfect Hiccup said “I did this” to taking Toothless’ tail fin, Stoic said “I did this” to Hiccup potentially dying to the Red Death Hiccup took Toothless’ tail fin, Toothless took Hiccup’s foot, but that allows both of them to better fit the mechanism he built
The detail at the end with the protagonist losing something permanently made me have a lot of respect for the story, he was no "Disney princess", he paid the price that comes with being brave, facing what nobody else faces and literally sacrificing yourself to save who you love.
Idk man, I kinda don't look down on disney princesses too. It's not the same as fighting a building-sized dragon, but standing up against your abusive stepfam is also kinda tough.
@starlaylee They looked at a disagreement between different situations having inherent risk, and went “but one is boring though.” Like, that was fully a non-factor in an A-B conversation, and is a subjective opinion, for that matter.
The music score when Hicup rides Toothless properly for the first time is called “test drive” and I listen to it on a daily basis, it’s an absolutely magnificent piece of musical magic
I'm glad you recognized that Toothless acts like a cat; they actually modeled him after cats, that's why. He acts so much like our cat, we named our cat after him! lol
They based his personality and behaviour on cats, dogs and horses! Some physical traits based on bats. It’s amazing how they created these new species off of living animals and they gave them so much life ❤ Edit: I forgot to mention Stormfly’s (Astrid’s dragon) behaviour was based on birds, which I love❤️🐦
IDK what it is, something about watching a movie with three 'dad' guys makes for a great experience, the reaction in general, the commentary (especially Oak pointing out the lessons haha). Maybe its the cosy, 'hanging out with pals' type vibe you guys have. I watch a few reaction channels, and this is my top one.
To me one of the best moment of the movie. Is right after Stoik tells Hiccup how disappointed in him, he is. That moment right after where you can see that he broke his own heart and immediately regret it in the sigh right after closing the door... Simple moment. Right moment
the fact that he actually FALTERS, like he loses strength in his legs from that. the man who BOXES with DRAGONS almost on the daily lost his footing because of something he said that shit is powerful
You guys will like this franchise so much fun, emotions, action, visuals. Dreamworks knows how to bring it with their films. Hiccup is an underrated character and toothless is the best companion. 😊🙌😎
I'm so happy you guys are reacting to the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. I hope you do more animations in the future, like Kung Fu Panda. Can't wait for the reactions for Dragons 2 and 3 😊
I saw this movie in 3D, and it was incredible. I can still remember the audible gasp from everyone in the room when they went on the "date" in the clouds. It's such a beautiful movie and a genuine favorite of mine.
I made the mistake of not seeing this movie at the theatre. I made sure to correct that for 2 & 3. I wish they would reshow them at a theatre near me.😊
Same. I'd seen Avatar before this in the cinema and was blown away by so much, but the 3D and especially the FLYING scenes slayed me. Then when I saw this later I think it topped those. Such an amazingly good movie.
I have a black cat with green eyes and when I tell you she makes the same faces as toothless, it's incredible. I love this movie, looking forward to watching 2 & 3 with you guys!
I honestly love how powerful they made Toothless. He's pretty small (for a dragon) and unassuming, but this absolutely massive dragon comes out and it's obvious none of the humans or the other dragons can do anything to it, but Toothless absolutely beats the crap out of it 🤣🤣 I love it.
It's quite possible that the reason Toothless is the last of his kind is that he adapted and pushed himself to the limit. That kind of thing has HUGE payoff
But it’s also not fully Mary Sue here. It shows Toothless’ strengths in a way that doesn’t make people roll their eyes and sigh at “plot armor” The only reason they won was because of strategy. Forcing it to fly, use the dark clouds as camouflage to hit its wings safely, fly straight down knowing it’s forced to spread its wings to slow down when it gets close to the ground, since it’s too big and heavy to right itself last minute, waiting for it to prepare an attack and blasting in its mouth to trigger the gas inside of its body. So basically using toothless’ strengths (small, fast, agile, camouflage, strong blasts and pretty high limit. I believe toothless had a maximum of 9) and the red death’s (and general dragons) weaknesses (heavy weight and low agility due to size, dragons aren’t fireproof on the inside, wings are thinner than skin) It’s believable. Plays on toothless’ strength as a smaller and very fast dragon who is hard to see or hit because of his dark scales, but whose blasts are quite strong. You can realistically see why toothless would be scared of it. And why toothless will lose, but when they win, it doesn’t feel like they pulled it out of nowhere. The stakes were there, it was difficult, the red death was actually smart (shooting everything when it couldn’t see toothless) and they won because they were smarter. This is how you make it feel good. It feels earned. It feels like they would’ve lost if anyone else was in Hiccup’s place, and the tactics he used was learnt earlier in the movie. And yet it also feels like if any other dragon was in toothless’ place, they would also lose. So in the end, Toothless is OP, but man it sure feels realistic.
Fun fact: the animators based some of the animation for Toothless on a cat with a ball of tape stuck to its tail and you can definitely tell 😂 I really love the first one, I haven't seen the second one since I saw it in the cinema, I need to rewatch it and I should see the third one. The score always gets me in the feels, so good!
I was super lucky, I had a friend who got like 3 free tickets to a pre-screening to HTTYD 2 and she invited me and a couple others to see it before it's release......and it was the most amazing experience!! Besides it being just a great film to see, it was super cool to be one of the first people to see it befpre itnwas released. They made us fill out a questionnaire afterwards for review reasons. It was so cool!!! Id love to do that again, but if not, I'm just happy my only experience of that was HTTYD 2. It was a beautiful movie!
30:15 this is the epitome of a really healthy relationship. Yes- acknowledge the shortcomings- but praise the outstanding things- and when things get rough- ask them “so what are you gonna do about it” and then support them when they make positive change.
I'm so glad you guys noticed how cat-like Toothless is, not many pick up on that, surprisingly. A little bonus I noticed when I first saw this movie, the Terrible Terror appears to be an Easter egg for the books the movies are based on, as they resemble the book version of Toothless, who could actually talk. I may be wrong, about it being an Easter egg, but it was a fun thing I thought I'd share 😁
@@natedoesthings9355 to be fair the books are completely different. They took the basic concept of Vikings + dragons, some character names, and basically nothing else. Dreamworks also did this with the Guardians of Childhood books vs Rise of the Guardians
I’ve really grown to love this channel. I enjoy lots of reaction channels but something about you guys just keeps setting you apart. It’s like a comfort show that I can put on to feel at peace and just pause life for a bit. You never hide your opinions but you stay open minded for the shows and movies as well. So happy avatar has led me here and I’m excited to keep tuning in every week to you guys!
I am over the moon that you are watching this series. The HTTYD movies has been one of my favorite animated movies of all time. Between the story, the animation, the character building, the dragon lore, and the SCORE... this movie has a massive affect on me. The characters are relatable and resonating. The score, composed by John Powell, truly tells the story so well and so impactfully and sometimes brings me to tears. I'm so excited for you to watch the others.
The "Test Drive" scene is an amazing scene with some of the best synergy between animation, character, plot and soundtrack, perfectly bringing together musical themes established earlier in the film to help emphasize that moment between Hiccup and Toothless, one of my favorite scenes and soundtracks of anything tbh and it just gets better after watching the other films and coming back to it.
First time ever commenting on TH-cam, just can’t skip this one. How To Train Your Dragon is not only my favourite animation film but perhaps my favourite film overall. Everything is so good in it. The music is just great, especially in the scene where Hiccup and Toothless slowly get to know each other first time (“get to know” is not a good phrase but can’t remember a good word in English). For me that scene and music combined is one of the most beautiful scene I have ever experienced. Of course the animation, the deep story, world building, actors, all what I can think of, is spot on. But I guess this film is so special to me because of Toothless disability, and in the end also Hiccup’s disability. When I first time saw the film I was still living normal life, but soon after that my life changed and I’m a disabled person nowadays, and it somehow warms my heart to see this beautiful dragon being able to do meaningful and important and wonderful things despite of his broken tail. And when Hiccup and Toothless walk side by side at the end, both visible broken (physically) but still strong (mentally, but also physically), I always cry like a baby. It’s so beautiful scene. And it all is done so delicate way, it just happens and is so natural that you actually don’t need to think about it. Ok, and now that I’m commenting, I thank you for your interesting, funny and deep diving reactions of films! I didn’t knowing film reactions can be fun to watch before I found your channel! I really appreciate how you do have real discussions.
OMG what?? I swear, yesterday I was like “damn, I’m sure Badd Medicine would love How to train your dragon” Hahah that’s crazy One of my favorites, you’re gonna love the other ones! Great reaction ❤
Dreamworks have always had solid films... but this one they went way above and beyond. The animation is gorgeous. Amazing story. The first flight is one of my favorite moments in cinema. So much personality in every dragon and person.
I am SOOOO happy you loved this movie because it is one of the greatest animated movies out there. The second one is my personal favorite but this trilogy is perfect, Ilove it. I hope you can get to love the other two movies. P.s I felt like The Answer when you guys watch Avatar. I was looking at your faces the whole time to see the smiles and laughs and moments of understanding 🤣🤣 loved it!
Wow, it’s so fitting that you’re reacting to these now. Just one week ago, I adopted a black cat and named him Toothless! 😂 So excited to see your reactions to the rest of them!!!
So incredibly happy you guys enjoyed this movie! This is probably one of my favorite animated movies ever, as well as the entire trilogy! Can't wait to see you enjoy the rest of them! ❤
I tend to disagree. But only in that I love this first one so much that the other two fantastic entrances can't quite live up to it for me. The CGI gets even better of course, but the first story is so unrelentingly entertaining and uplifting that it moves me every time.
The hope in the oaks voice when he was wondering if hiccup was under toothless' wing was really sweet. How To Train Your Dragon is a great series of dreamworks movies, and you're right it was awesome in 3D. I will say, like most things, the sequels don't quite out-do the originals. I love how hiccup and toothless mirror each other. Also really cool that you don't get many disabled main protagonists in kids media but that's part of who both toothless and hiccup are now after this movie. It meant a lot to a lot of kids at the time :)
Answers to your questions/comments made in the video: - Toothless was based on multiple animals; e.g. the concept for his appearance was inspired by a picture of a black panther on one of the story artists' monitor. His mannerisms are also based on multiple animals, including cats, dogs, and bats. - Did you catch that what Toothless drew was an (admittedly . . . abstract, lol) picture of Hiccup? - "There was a 3D version of this? Oh, guys, theatre trip if it ever gets re-released!" Depending on where you are, it very well may be back in cinemas, it does come back from time to time. When I was double-checking I had my facts right for the first point I made, Google told me there are showings at the Vue cinemas in Edinburgh (since I live near Edinburgh) at the end of the month. Didn't say 3D though, would love to see it in 3D. - Ha, if you want a video of just Toothless' quirks and gestures, it's not only Toothless but look up Kit Harrington's "audition" for HTTYD 2 (I see you've watched the second movie on Patreon by now - sorry I'm not currently in the financial position to support), it's a funny short video of Toothless being cute and silly and mimicking Kit. Along with the three main movies, there are also tv shows and short films that go along with the franchise; I'll include them in a reply under this comment. I doubt you'll watch the tv series (although it's wonderful, there's just a lot to get through), but if you only watch one other thing from the franchise alongside the main movies, I recommend watching the short film "Gift of the Night Fury", preferably before watching movie 3 since GOTNF's events are briefly referenced in the movie. It's also just a good little film itself, I think you'll enjoy it.
TV shows: - Dragons: Riders of Berk (set not long after the events of movie 1) - Dragons: Defenders of Berk (set immediately after Riders, basically Riders season 2) - Dragons: Race to the Edge (set a few years after Riders and Defenders, and during the couple of years before movie 2) Short films: - Gift of the Night Fury - Book of Dragons - Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon (all set shortly after the events of movie 1/around the same time as Riders) - Dawn of the Dragon Racers (set around Race to the Edge) - Homecoming (set during movie 3) There are also another couple of tv shows that weren't as well received as the others: - Dragons: Rescue Riders (unsure when it is set, if it even is in the same timeline. Aimed at younger children, less of a family show and more a little kids' show, hence why less people are into it. The dragons talk, which is more true to the original book canon but doesn't fit the movie canon. Also follows completely different characters, which likely contributes to peoples' dislike of it.) - Dragons: The Nine Realms (set 1300 years after the events of the original movies. I personally don't mind it, in fact I'm quite enjoying it, but I do see why others aren't as fond of it. For one, again, following completely different characters - although the main character is a descendant of Hiccup.)
MY MOST FAVORITE ANIMATED FRANCHISE OF ALL TIME !!!!!! the whole story is phenomenal, the animation gets better each time, the characters are so lovely, and the universe building is unmatched. so happy you guys are reacting to this !!!
I watched all the BTS when this came out. I believe they used like 4 or 5 different animals to give toothless his looks. They used a cat, black panther, some reptilian, a bat and something else. They definitely put in work making him
I'm so glad you reacted to this. This movie and this series are some of my all time favorite movies. Not only that, but the trilogy is in conversation for the greatest trilogy of all time. I also recommend the two or so series that fill in the gaps between the movies. I also recommend going through to look at all the fan theories. They are super fun and interesting. And the director of the animated trilogy just announced they are doing a live action remake and he will direct. The score is perfect! They even did a bunch of location scouting in the fjords that are just gorgeous.
I discovered your channel a few months ago and I’ve been binging your videos ever since. I love all of your guys’ reactions! Can’t wait to see what you guys watch next ❤
What a coincidence! I watched this movie 2 days ago. I loved it so much i saw the second one yesterday and sometime this week will watch the last one, too. Toothless is definitely a cat but with wings.
This honestly is one of the best trilogies out there and not just among animated movies. I know you'll love the other two, it just keeps geting better in every aspect. Can't wait for the next reactions.
I remember going to the cinema to watch this movie with my grandma when I was 6 or 7. It's amazing to see people appreciating this movie and loving it almost as much as I do. The music makes me cry every time now. Thanks Guys!
I practically GREW UP on this series. the three movies are beautifully made and the TV show/short episodes flesh out the world in amazing ways. I saw the first two on DVD, but I caught the third movie in theaters and I just started sobbing during the ending credits as I realized this series I had most of my life is now over. the HTTYD series is a STUNNING work both visually and story-wise. I sincerely hope you watch the next two movies soon.
As always, you have such wholesome and good reactions. I started watching your channel because of the Harry Potter reactions, but I have found myself watching everything you guys do. Oak has the best wisdom, Quinn has the best laugh, and Answer makes the best jokes. Never fail to entertain me.
YES!!! I'm so glad you watched this movie! As an artist this is everything I aspire to be apart of. The story, characters, animation and music are top tier.
I grew up watching this! I still remember I got a really high fever in the middle of watching the 3rd one at the cinema with my brother lol :") I had to rewatch the whole thing because I could only focus on the first half of the movie. Happy that you're finally watching it!!
When the movie first started and Hiccup was doing the voice over I thought that voice was going to be annoying, but 30 seconds later I couldn't imagine Hiccup sounding any other way. Like so many other things in the movie the voice acting was spot on across the board.
Fantastic Trilogy and my Number 1 Animated Trilogy. Nothing has ever topped it for me and likely nothing ever will. Top notch storytelling, character work, and obviously animation. HTTYD3's visuals are absolutely incredible.
Oaks face at 34:55 is everything! 😊😍 I knew Oak would get emotional. Got me crying at work. Loved this reaction frm my guys! Oh yall and Diamond Dave are my guys! Just FYI 😂
There was no greater comfort I needed to day then getting to watch some of my favorite reactors watching and loving one of my absolute favorite films of all time. Can't wait to see your reactions to the next two! Thanks for these reactions guys, much love! 🙌
"It's not so much what you look like, it's what's inside" great line & reactions from you all, "1 person can make a massive difference" just 1 of the many words of wisdom said by Oak there & thanks to Quinn & Answer for your inspiring words there too! Dragons are my favourite mythical creatures, so was a treat watching this movie with you guys! 🐲💚😁
Yes!! I'm ready to see The Oak shed some tears over this brilliant trilogy lol. 3rd favourite trilogy, behind LotR and Rise of the Apes trilogy. Hope you fellas try Kung Fu Panda trilogy next.
SUCH a good series, and Dragons: Race to the Edge is an excellent tv show with (mostly) the same voice actors. Apparently the character of Astrid did not exist in the books (written by Cressida Cowell). She was added for the movies and tv shows, and I think she's a great addition. The animation and music are amazing, and Toothless is THE BEST!
The twins were also a movie addition :) there is a character in the books named camicazzi who is kinda similar to Astrid in appearance (i havent read up to her introduction yet)
HTTYD holds a special place in my heart. I don't think I'd be able to survive if I ever saw the stage play, especially when Toothless allows Hiccup to touch his nose. This and the recent Netflix The Dark Crystal are among my ultimate favorite animated movies of all time.
This franchise just keeps getting better and better. So happy you guys are watching this set of movies. Watching this franchise as a child, it's just so wonderful & colorful. Watching this an adult, it's just so complex. I love how Dreamworks does stories that doesn't always end in complete happy ever after. I love how in the end, both Toothless and Hiccup have the same handicap (also, great representation especially in the 2010s), and they support each other. It also has an animated series that is great for younger audiences. The plots do cater to them, but exploring this universe and other dragon species is just *chef's kiss*
Everyone that ive ever met that watches this movie always says that its one of the best movies that they have ever got the chance to experience. Excited for yalls to see the next one!
I'm glad you like this movie. My only recommendation is that you watch the TV show that comes after this cuz it gives more character growth( especially with his group of kids, himself and Hiccups father), different dragons and definitely more world building. I honestly believe you'll love it
YES!!! This is one of my favorite trilogy's ever! The music I still have on my music lists and listen to. The animation gets better and better with each movie even though the originals was beautiful. One thing that always stuck with me is how Stoic was handled. A strong, stubborn manly man. He can very easily fall into the classic meathead no gentleness or emotional range stereotype. Instead he has his flaws, but he also has a more complex character then when you first think. He shows he actually cares for his kid. He thinks what he is doing is right and is the good of all his people. He actively puts himself in the defense to protect. Yet he also wants to connect to his kid, willing to sit down when he was excited. And one of the biggest parts for me, when he finally realizes he is wrong he apologies and makes sure his kid knows he is proud of him. He is willing to change when he actually realizes the evidence presented. Funny enough Hiccup actually is a lot like him. I think both are stubborn and stick strongly to doing what they feel is right. All this is just one good part of a ton of good parts of this series. I can't wait to see your reactions to the other 2!
This series is generally what gets me to subscribe to new reaction channels because it's got everything and brings everything out of the reactor, some even cry because of how emotional it is at points. It's one of, if not, the best animated film ever.
One of my favorite movies of all time! Loved your reactions guys! I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I have watched all 3 movies with my friends. I've even watched the TV shows and the specials as well. I love this franchise!
Im so glad you guys loved it because during it's release, it got high reviews and toothless became an iconic character... i remember that after this show or during its theater release, i saw a lot of toothless stuff toys and plushies and became a lovable character... next 2 movies will be more wonderful with lots of fun, sadness and love...also funny how oak was moving along while toothless and hiccup were flying..😂😂
Love this movie!! The story is so well written, the animation is great and the music is up there with my favourite scores (especially Test drive, that gets me teary eyed everytime I hear it). Would love to see you react to Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and Brother Bear, two of my all time favourite animated movies (and two of the most underrated ones in my opinion)!
oooh! thank you for reacting to this movie and looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the trilogy! hope you continue to watch and react to animated movies! more power to you guys!
Oh boy, you guys are sure in for a spectacular journey with this trilogy!!! I remember having watched this at the cinema when I was a kid and to this day it remains as my favorite cinematic experience ever. I do hope that the Dragon´s trilogy gets re-released (or a screening?? idk how to call that) at the movies because listening to John Powell´s music there just hits so much more!! Also, the "Test Drive" scene (when Hiccup and Toothless go flying for real for the first time ) on the big screen is simply mind blowing. This movie is not only nostalgic, but also one of my favorites. Thank you guys for giving it a chance
I’m new to you guys and I’ve been bingeing a lot of your reactions but I almost screamed of joy when this popped up. I loveeeeeeee this series it has such a special place in my heart I can’t wait for you all to see the other two! you won’t be disappointed ❤
14:41 hiccup was drawing him, so toothless drew hiccup thats why he didn’t want hiccup to step on the lines bc its his drawing (as a kid i thought he wanted him to dance too lol)
I'm happy you enjoyed this movie, it only gets better with the sequels. It was so good, that there was a TV series that expanded the story over 4 seasons. There are holiday specials too. A live-action adaptation is due in 2025.
40:35 about toothless’s mannerisms and mimics the team worked extra hard for the micro expressions and moves. For a Christmas special for example they used a crew members cat for a reference. The Christmas special is Gift of the Night Fury
HTTYD is honestly one of the best!! it’s beautiful and emotional. it’s amazing how they made us adore and get attached with an animated dragon😂 loved your reactions guys, thank you. can’t wait for the next 2! (and i really hope encanto is still on your list…)
HTTYD had a similar impact on me to Harry Potter in the sense that I aged with the characters and the stakes. It has such strong emotional ties for me and I do think anyone can watch it at any point in their life and truly feel heavily affected by its lessons, passionate worldbuilding, and visuals. And the SOUNDTRACKS gah, amazing. A perfect trilogy in my opinion.
Just when I got into fandom back recently, you make this reaction, nice :) Honestly, I consider Hiccup's and Stoick's relation to be one of the best stories ever written on screen.
I'm so excited!!! Toothless and Hiccup are dearly loved by everyone in my family💜 edit: i *KNEW* Oak would cry. I'm so happy this story touched your heart
47:00 Love the sentiments here. My daughter is autistic and I really fear for her future as she's judged for what people don't understand. Need more of you in the world, please.
This was a fun one! Everything about this was excellent! What was your reaction? Which character was your favorite? What did we miss?

I adore HTTYD with all my ❤️!
Fun fact: the design of toothless was inspired by a black cat 😊
It wasn't just one person making the change, but Hiccup and Toothless together, building a relationship and finding new ways of being, then fighting against all the pressures that tried to tear them down. And they needed Astrid to be a supportive friend and gather the other kids.
I guess my point is that one person can start a change, but big change happens when a community works together.
@Badd Medicine will you guys be doing Riders of Berk? It's basically what happens to Hiccup and the gang between Movies 1&2
Yeah, he even said Hiccup didn't have to fight that dragon and that he was already proud of him
Yes!!! ❤️🙌🏻
Great point. There were several moments when toothless changed his attitude and behavior after someone apologized. It's a very nice touch.
Hiccup half got her with the romantic flight, and totally got her with that determined "YES"
Little side fact: Hiccup actually lost his foot because when Toothless tired to save him, he tried to bite the nearest thing to him, which was Hiccups foot. It's a nice touch because Toothless lost his tail wing because of Hiccup and now they both are basically amputees and it also happens to be both on their left sides.
it's not a fact but it makes sense and in my head this is canon
@@naylisyazwina6836 I mean, they pretty much confirmed it in the second movie when Hiccups mother asked about toothless only having one tail wing and he said that it was his fault but Toothless got him back, so now he also has a peg leg.
@@michellehawk282 and in the homecoming when his kid hinted to why he lost his foot
@@michellehawk282 the parallels are perfect
Hiccup said “I did this” to taking Toothless’ tail fin, Stoic said “I did this” to Hiccup potentially dying to the Red Death
Hiccup took Toothless’ tail fin, Toothless took Hiccup’s foot, but that allows both of them to better fit the mechanism he built
Not really a fact there, just one theory about it. Doesn't even make much sense when you remember that toothless has retractable teeth...
@@EmmarainePinkeh, all th edisney stories kinda the same, nice, but boring
@@zemaitejskefyrs3505pov: you cant read
@starlaylee They looked at a disagreement between different situations having inherent risk, and went “but one is boring though.” Like, that was fully a non-factor in an A-B conversation, and is a subjective opinion, for that matter.
The music score when Hicup rides Toothless properly for the first time is called “test drive” and I listen to it on a daily basis, it’s an absolutely magnificent piece of musical magic
I completely agree. The music dot these movies are next level!
Honestly, John Powell is a musical genius. I downloaded it onto my mp3 I love it so much!!
Pure pump up music! ❤
Ditto. The music from this soundtrack is part of my Instrumental play list.
I saw the film, left the theater, drove across to the Borders, bought the soundtrack, and listened to it all the way home!
I'm glad you recognized that Toothless acts like a cat; they actually modeled him after cats, that's why. He acts so much like our cat, we named our cat after him! lol
They based his personality and behaviour on cats, dogs and horses! Some physical traits based on bats. It’s amazing how they created these new species off of living animals and they gave them so much life ❤
Edit: I forgot to mention Stormfly’s (Astrid’s dragon) behaviour was based on birds, which I love❤️🐦
I have a black cat and it's so cute when I see Toothless acts like he does.
@@CervusLavandula I can definitely see Stormfly as a bird! Like even with its head movement mannerisms.
Much appreciated! Hell of compliment! Thank you and thanks for spending some of your time with us🤙
So true I love their vibe I've binged most of the channel in under a month
I love how positive they are. I have seen other reaction channels and they are not like this.
I like how Hiccup describes Stoick's expectations like if he was ordering a burger.
Same 😂
To me one of the best moment of the movie. Is right after Stoik tells Hiccup how disappointed in him, he is.
That moment right after where you can see that he broke his own heart and immediately regret it in the sigh right after closing the door...
Simple moment. Right moment
You literally see him stumble back from the weight of his own guilt.
the fact that he actually FALTERS, like he loses strength in his legs from that. the man who BOXES with DRAGONS almost on the daily lost his footing because of something he said
that shit is powerful
You guys will like this franchise so much fun, emotions, action, visuals. Dreamworks knows how to bring it with their films. Hiccup is an underrated character and toothless is the best companion. 😊🙌😎

Would love them to do Kung fu panda 😔
Yeah, double it, panda is amazing
It would be great if you watch the httyd shows as well
Kung Fu Panda and Jumanji Trilogy as well
How to train your dragon the perfect trilogy
@@chriskelly3481 The HTTYD movies and Maleficent are my go tos on planes, the flying scenes are incredible when when you're in the clouds yourself
I have a black cat with green eyes and when I tell you she makes the same faces as toothless, it's incredible. I love this movie, looking forward to watching 2 & 3 with you guys!
Same!
Same
I honestly love how powerful they made Toothless.
Toothless has plasma as his fire!
But it’s also not fully Mary Sue here. It shows Toothless’ strengths in a way that doesn’t make people roll their eyes and sigh at “plot armor”
The only reason they won was because of strategy.
I believe toothless had a maximum of 9) and the red death’s (and general dragons) weaknesses (heavy weight and low agility due to size, dragons aren’t fireproof on the inside, wings are thinner than skin)
It’s believable.
@@NassiLove what do you mean it’s like they would of lost if anyone else was in hiccups place?
Fun fact: the animators based some of the animation for Toothless on a cat with a ball of tape stuck to its tail and you can definitely tell 😂 I really love the first one, I haven't seen the second one since I saw it in the cinema, I need to rewatch it and I should see the third one. The score always gets me in the feels, so good!
The cat with tape on the tail is used almost frame by frame in gift of the night fury (Christmas special)
I may be wrong, about it being an Easter egg, but it was a fun thing I thought I'd share 😁
finally, someone on this earth who read the books
@@natedoesthings9355 IT'S BASED ON A _BOOK?!?!_ OH GOD YES
Well, it's a whole series of children's books
@@natedoesthings9355 to be fair the books are completely different. They took the basic concept of Vikings + dragons, some character names, and basically nothing else. Dreamworks also did this with the Guardians of Childhood books vs Rise of the Guardians
Oh my god i love that! ❤
Very kind of you! Thank you and thanks for spending some of your time with us! 🤜🤛
I was feeling a lot of the same things but couldnt put them into words the same way as you did :D
I absolutely LOVE this franchise, the second one is my favorite animated movie ever🥰🇧🇷
I love the second one ❤
A case of a sequel being better than the original imo.
Mine too also because the animation itself dveloped to an even more astonishing level and I like Hickup's mum and Astrid.
Ah yes, been looking forward to this!
You guys never disappoint. And Oak wispering about hiccup beeing under the wing, just yells investment!
Love it.
I'm 70, and I loved this franchise..
I'm 63 and I totally agree!
OMG what?? I swear, yesterday I was like “damn, I’m sure Badd Medicine would love How to train your dragon”
Hahah that’s crazy
One of my favorites, you’re gonna love the other ones!
😂🤘
Wow, it’s so fitting that you’re reacting to these now. Just one week ago, I adopted a black cat and named him Toothless! 😂 So excited to see your reactions to the rest of them!!!
So incredibly happy you guys enjoyed this movie! This is probably one of my favorite animated movies ever, as well as the entire trilogy! Can't wait to see you enjoy the rest of them! ❤
Honestly this might be one of the only movies where the sequel is as good if not better than the first one
Off the top of my head, the only other examples I can think of are Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, Madagascar, Back to the Future, and Terminator.
Have been waiting for you all to watch this series, it’s one of my favorites! So glad y’all enjoyed the first one, they only get better!
Answers to your questions/comments made in the video:
- Toothless was based on multiple animals; e.g. the concept for his appearance was inspired by a picture of a black panther on one of the story artists' monitor.
TV shows:
- Dragons: Riders of Berk (set not long after the events of movie 1)
- Dragons: Defenders of Berk (set immediately after Riders, basically Riders season 2)
- Dragons: Race to the Edge (set a few years after Riders and Defenders, and during the couple of years before movie 2)
Short films:
- Gift of the Night Fury
- Book of Dragons
- Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon (all set shortly after the events of movie 1/around the same time as Riders)
- Dawn of the Dragon Racers (set around Race to the Edge)
- Homecoming (set during movie 3)
There are also another couple of tv shows that weren't as well received as the others:
- Dragons: Rescue Riders (unsure when it is set, if it even is in the same timeline. Aimed at younger children, less of a family show and more a little kids' show, hence why less people are into it. The dragons talk, which is more true to the original book canon but doesn't fit the movie canon. Also follows completely different characters, which likely contributes to peoples' dislike of it.)
- Dragons: The Nine Realms (set 1300 years after the events of the original movies. I personally don't mind it, in fact I'm quite enjoying it, but I do see why others aren't as fond of it. For one, again, following completely different characters - although the main character is a descendant of Hiccup.)
Finally another httyd nerd in this comment section thank you i feel less lonely
@@verda3665 Haha, you're welcome, fellow HTTYD nerd XD

I sincerely hope you watch the next two movies soon.

not surprised since the same directors did both movies!
YES!!! I'm so glad you watched this movie! As an artist this is everything I aspire to be apart of. The story, characters, animation and music are top tier.
The music is, for me, especially god tier. Every piece is great, but the "Test drive" score is incredible!

Great taste you got there! My top 3 picks as well
You're gonna love this trilogy!
So happy you're watching this series! The second is my favourite, but they're all fantastic.
HTTYD holds a special place in my heart. I don't think I'd be able to survive if I ever saw the stage play, especially when Toothless allows Hiccup to touch his nose. This and the recent Netflix The Dark Crystal are among my ultimate favorite animated movies of all time.
this is such a special movie. so much emotion and so many beautiful moments! also, the score is one of my favorites - it was nominated for an oscar!
I honestly believe you'll love it
you have no idea how much this movie means to me, and so many others of my generation. so im so happy to see that you loved watching it!
Oh boy. Oak tearing up at the end started to make me tear up 😂 And I didn't even tear up when I first saw this movie!
Oh hell yeah, I grew up on these movies and I actually learned a lot from the movies.
The perfect marriage of Story, animation, orchestral score and voice-work.
This franchise is everything. It's soundtrack is in my top 2 along with the chronicles of Narnia
This is one of the most solid franchises... there is no one weak movie in the HTTYD franchise.
So I am very happy that you got into this one.
oooh! thank you for reacting to this movie and looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the trilogy! hope you continue to watch and react to animated movies! more power to you guys!
So excited to see you guys watch this franchise! This will forever be in my top 5 and I can't wait to see your opinions on the other 2 movies :)

I'm a grown person, and this trilogy and even its tv show have been my favorite, and thrilled that you watched it.
I'm happy you enjoyed this movie, it only gets better with the sequels.
It was so good, that there was a TV series that expanded the story over 4 seasons. There are holiday specials too.
A live-action adaptation is due in 2025.
My niece is watching the tv series for the first time right now and it’s so fun watching her discover more about this world.
This is my very favorite animated movie. I can watch it a million times over. Never gets old or boring. Always entertaining.
The Oak's words today got me tearing up. Think I really needed to hear it.
Also, the Oak. Love you. Thanks for telling people what I've tried to get people to get since I was a small child. It's so important.
Just when I got into fandom back recently, you make this reaction, nice :)
Honestly, I consider Hiccup's and Stoick's relation to be one of the best stories ever written on screen.
I don't remember if you guys already watched the greatest showman but if not I would love to see the reactions. I love this movie
Yesss I've been waiting for the to do How to train your dragon , let's goooo! I can't wait for the other 2
you guys can't even imagine how excited I am for this reaction.
5:07 The reason why it sounds like 300 with an accent is because Stoick is voiced by the spartan king himself, the legened Gerard Butler!
I'm so excited!!! Toothless and Hiccup are dearly loved by everyone in my family💜
edit: i *KNEW* Oak would cry. I'm so happy this story touched your heart
47:00 Love the sentiments here. My daughter is autistic and I really fear for her future as she's judged for what people don't understand. Need more of you in the world, please.
