To be fair, there's a big difference between funding the creation of a development team and funding the development of games, and buying out a traditionally multiplatform studio just to prevent gamers on one console from playing them. I think you know this. It's a terrible PR move by Microsoft and blatant hypocrisy by Phil Spencer, but in reality the games probably won't stay exclusive anyway. They can't make money without selling them on Playstation and they're quite aware of this. I expect timed exclusivity to be announced in a year or so after the sales bump to XBox has died down. Bethesda without Playstation would actually cost Microsoft money every year.

Microsoft has more money than Sony. Sony makes more profit off their games division. Which means effectively Playstation has more money than XBox. And regardless, Xbox has to make money. They're not going to make money without selling Bethesda games on Playstation. It's just a numbers issue. That's the only way the deal makes them money. And they exist to make money, not gain exclusives. I could be wrong, but there isn't a magical spell they can cast to make this profitable otherwise.

Probably a year. This deal will lose them money without Playstation and they know it. Playstation is too large for a multi-platform company to just ignore. They either have to do a mass firing or timed exclusivity to make any money off Zenimax at this point.

I've always played on xbox. The only reason I jumped on playstation 4 was because my best friend got one. And I'm glad I did. Xbox one generation was garbage. But I'm picking up my xbox series x this Saturday. And can't wait to see what unfolds

Another absolute example, Halo Mcc which is tehnically just a compilation of old Halo Games (pre 5) but it still sell well and when it hit pc especially steam the sold number even increased more Hell even Horizon Zero Dawn still sold well when it was ported on pc 3 years after ps4 released it maybe not reaching the same number as ps4 sold number but still sold well until the level when Sony considering port their severall exclusive game (especially old but gold exclusive game) to pc which is also used to be one of a sony's promotion way to introduced the ps5 to non ps gamer which is for me is awesome

It's amusing that you think this will make them more money. I'd imagine most Bethesda games will release on all consoles. And I imagine that most exclusives are actually timed exclusive. Microsoft will lose money on this deal otherwise. I don't know where Phil Spencer thinks he can recover at least half of Bethesda's sales, but the reality is they can't. Part of the issue with buying a company that large is that you have to have a large enough playerbase to make it work. Microsoft does not without Playstation. There's more to be announced here I'm sure. Fly your fanboy flag of victory if you want, but this deal makes no sense in its current form.

@Vincent Belmar he never changed his strategy. He is doing exactly what I posted. They are heavily investing in their first party and not working many third party deals. If anything the third party deals they are working are for gamepass.
I was watching am IGN round table at about a year into last gen. One of the "journalists" literally said on camea that he hated Xbox. I'm not a fanboy of either console but I was shocked at the lack of professionalism. When the others sounded pretty shocked at his bluntness he just doubled down.
That doesn't surprise me. While they haven't shown anything that makes me say that IGN 100% hates Xbox, they do seem to have a bias towards PlayStation. Just look at Ryan McCaffrey, back when it was revealed that Tomb Raider was time exclusive to Xbox, Ryan went on Twitter and said that nobody wins in these scenarios but petty fanboys and Microsoft and basically echoing that exclusivity deals aren't good for the industry. Fast-forward to when FF16 was revealed it was PS5 exclusive, Ryan defended It by saying "Please, please spare me all of your "Exclusives are bad for the industry" takes, Xbox fans. I'm commenting on what I see. FF16 is a huge get for Sony. It's a business".
What's funny is the simple solution is if there are exclusives you want to play, you buy that platform, but guys like this dude will just refuse. I don't buy PS consoles, and I don't play the games on it period. The one and done exclusives just don't appeal to me enough.

For reference, when Phil was talking about "future games with contractual obligations" he wasn't just talking about Deathloop and Ghostwrite: Tokyo. The other conceivable situation where Microsoft might put out games on another platform is situations like the Indiana Jones game, where they are making a game based on a licensed IP where the license holder contractually mandates release on other platforms. It's worth noting that Sony is doing the same (see MLB The Show). Phil didn't want to close the door on something like that happening in the future. For example, if Disney comes to Bethesda and says "Hey, wanna make a Star Wars RPG?" Microsoft probably would do that, even if Disney said it had to come out on PS5 also.

Ppl are still playing single player exclusives for Xbox 360 and OG Xbox such as Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2.
If Microsoft can play its cards right their games will have a long life span. Multiplayer games like halo, gears and sea of thieves, along side RPGs that are designed to have a ton of replay value from Bethesda, Obsidian, and Inxile.

It's amusing that you think this will make them more money. I'd imagine most Bethesda games will release on all consoles. And I imagine that most exclusives are actually timed exclusive. Microsoft will lose money on this deal otherwise. I don't know where Phil Spencer thinks he can recover at least half of Bethesda's sales, but the reality is they can't. Part of the issue with buying a company that large is that you have to have a large enough playerbase to make it work. Microsoft does not without Playstation. There's more to be announced here I'm sure. Fly your fanboy flag of victory if you want, but this deal makes no sense in its current form.

I was watching am IGN round table at about a year into last gen. One of the "journalists" literally said on camea that he hated Xbox.
I'm not a fanboy of either console but I was shocked at the lack of professionalism. When the others sounded pretty shocked at his bluntness he just doubled down.
That doesn't surprise me. While they haven't shown anything that makes me say that IGN 100% hates Xbox, they do seem to have a bias towards PlayStation.
Just look at Ryan McCaffrey, back when it was revealed that Tomb Raider was time exclusive to Xbox, Ryan went on Twitter and said that nobody wins in these scenarios but petty fanboys and Microsoft and basically echoing that exclusivity deals aren't good for the industry. Fast-forward to when FF16 was revealed it was PS5 exclusive, Ryan defended It by saying "Please, please spare me all of your "Exclusives are bad for the industry" takes, Xbox fans. I'm commenting on what I see. FF16 is a huge get for Sony. It's a business".

What's funny is the simple solution is if there are exclusives you want to play, you buy that platform, but guys like this dude will just refuse. I don't buy PS consoles, and I don't play the games on it period. The one and done exclusives just don't appeal to me enough.

The other conceivable situation where Microsoft might put out games on another platform is situations like the Indiana Jones game, where they are making a game based on a licensed IP where the license holder contractually mandates release on other platforms. It's worth noting that Sony is doing the same (see MLB The Show). Phil didn't want to close the door on something like that happening in the future. For example, if Disney comes to Bethesda and says "Hey, wanna make a Star Wars RPG?" Microsoft probably would do that, even if Disney said it had to come out on PS5 also.
