The "failure is not the end" scene was absolutely amazing. It gives me goosebumps. I have played through the game a couple more times just to build up to that scene. When Cal repairs his lightsaber and ignites it, you get this overwhelming sense of fulfillment and it's clear that the game is telling you, "He's a Jedi Knight now". This game was so well done it actually shocked me.
I have played this game through 3 times, and every time I reach the point in the game when that transmission plays, I have not been able to hold back tears. You said it very well: heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time.
Imagine if in Jedi: Fallen Order, instead of getting to choose the colour of your Kyber crystal, it's based on your playstyle e.g. Green if you use force abilities more often, Blue if you use your lightsaber most etc.
i was thinking of a similar idea on my very first playthrough. You cam up with a brilliant idea i think. I just had a desire for it to mean something or have some purpose and this idea is great to fulfill that desire.
What would pink be? Those who get down and dirty with their opponents? ... ... ... I meant a focus on close quarters combat, what were you thinking of?
That's a neat idea, though I can see it getting some backlash from people who don't want to change their playstyle just for a different colo- wait... *_HOW'D I GET RED!?_*
I wish more people in the fandom as a whole, particularly us Prequel/Clone Wars fans appreciated this game. Everything about it would make an amazing movie, and it's even better that we get to play and experience it! AND THE MUSIC OMG
Jedi Fallen Order is probably my favorite Star Wars story. Diverse cast, deep characters, awesome villain, and incredible gameplay. Not that it necessarily needs to, but it also follows George Lucas' "formula" for a good Star Wars story: mentor figure, comedic relief, redemption and adds to it. Cal Kestis, Cere Junda, Trilla Suduri, and Merrin are among some of my favorite Star Wars characters ever.
Bro I've been looking for someone who writes video essays of your quality and have been looking for one for Fallen order for a while now. I loved your video on TLOU2 and am exited to see this one.
This is an absolutely excellent deconstruction of the game. It certainly wasn't the gameplay that gripped me, but the growth of Cal's character and his dynamic with varied characters throughout the game. This is a quality analysis I don't see often on TH-cam. Thank you.
This game blows TFU out of the water, I’ve always thought that game prioritized flashy “badass” actions and that’s just not what the force is about for me. This game feels like it fits right in the canon and could be a movie or show. Plus, the souls-like genre is perfect for the atmosphere of the story. You’re not some great Jedi hero, you’re a kid with a lightsaber whose training was cut short by order 66. Also Trilla is a fantastic villain
I believe in this game, just as producers of The Last Of Us once said they intended, one never feels overpowered. As you say, every encounter is a struggle to survive. You never feel as a Jedi Master (though there is a difficulty setting for that) but still as a young and nieve apprentice.
Thank you for this video man! Video games, just like movies or books, should be analyzed this deep. It is hard to reflect on these messages the games leave for the audience to understand, I’m glad you do!
Dude, this was absolutely incredible and insightful. I've delved into the story of Jedi: Fallen Order and its protagonist, Cal Kestis, for a while now and you've offered some new insight I've never considered before, such as the thesis of trust. I also really loved your analysis of the Hero's Journey to Cal and the analysis of the ludonarrative of the game. Two things I'll add is that Cal has a unique internal arc: He goes from being very self-confident to humbled by his experiences in his journey. Many Jedi, such as Luke and Ezra, go through the opposite, which is fine. But it's so interesting that the writers flipped it around for Cal, making him a unique Jedi in the process. The other thing is about the ludonarrative and Cal's journey throughout Dathomir. Cal goes through A LOT on Dathomir with facing various creatures, undead Nightsisters/Nightbrothers, and Gorgara. So, to me, an additional factor that could show why Cal failed is because of the challenges he faced in traversing back up to the Temple which exhausted him greatly in addition to the darkness imbued throughout Dathomir that fed into Cal and affected his ability with the Force to patiently meditate in order to reconnect.
I will say, the reveal of Darth Vader is so sick. It was the hypest game in the moment for me because you never expect it and you literally cannot beat it
Another incredible video! Good job, man. Loved Fallen Order and adored watching this. I just finished Rebels. I can't wait for your Star Wars: Rebels video coming hopefully soon.
Thank you!! I am actually brushing up on Star Wars Rebels currently. There will definitely be a video, most likely in the Spring. Rumor is that's when The Bad Batch series premieres, so gonna time the video alongside that.
I keep coming back to this video for the incredible intro. A lovely edit that perfectly captures the tone of the game using all new canon in game assets but it feels like prime Star Wars. Brilliant, just brilliant.
I loved this story so much that I replayed SWJ:FO about 7 times on Grandmaster difficulty during the shutdowns. (It helped that the gameplay is fluid and fun.) I know the story in the game is official canon, but I REALLY want to see Cal Kestis in a future show. Edit: I LOVE that the game characters actually look like the actors.
I’m not a gamer in the slightest but I decided to watch an edit of the cutscenes (it had some gameplay included for context) of Fallen Order recently cause I wanted to understand specifically why some fans like the character of Cal Kestis so much. I didn’t know what to expect. Imagine my shock when Cal quickly became one of my favorite male characters of all time and the game itself is easily my favorite Star Wars story of the past decade. It’s so incredibly well done across the board that it got even the most non-gamer invested.
I went in Fallen Order blind with the urge to scratch a certain lightsaber itch. I didnt expect a flushed out story with gripping gameplay. 10/10 respawn.
I wish there was something stronger than a "like" button to click on. That is brilliant, insightful, and one can feel your passion for it. Congrats and thanks !
I watched your entire clone wars 3-parter without looking at your subscriber count. I had assumed it was at least in the tens of thousands, given the quality of your videos and insight. Here’s one more sub, let’s start by getting you to 1000.
The writing and story of this game is so incredible. This is what we should expect from movies/games. The music, the supporting cast, and most IMPORTANTLY Cal all have something special. The theme of this game is also quite incredible as in overcoming the past and accepting that. I think the voice actors were personal and you could relate to their struggle. Eno Cordova and Cere split the duties of “Obi Wan” from Episode 4 as the wise older person. This is an incredible game and the dialogue reflects that. I think this is what Star Wars is all about and I hope they continue this with the final game in the trilogy.
This an extremely well done video. I hope this video and this game continues to gain notoriety. I think you summed up very well what this games story and characters convey and try to tell us. I beat this game twice in a week. It’s gameplay, environments, characters, set pieces, themes, and story deserves to be remembered and appreciated
This game was one of the first PC games I ever bought when I built my first PC this year and got into PC gaming. I was so amazed by the story, action and gameplay. It felt so good to finally enjoy a Star Wars story with a hero's journey motif again (seeing a protagonist actually struggle, train, and overcome their short-comings to succeed) especially after disney butchered the execution of the sequels and EA screwed the Battlefront games. Respawn did an amazing job!
Just got done with your clone wars videos in a marathon while I was working, and now am treated with one of my favorite games AMAZING channel, probably one of the only ones I actively shared and said to check out EVER
Dude this video was amazing! I can’t believe how accurately you were able to put the way that I feel about this game into words. I love this the game and the way that you explain it is just so inspiring. Thanks for making this video, you are truly an underrated channel.
I wish you had focused more on the way he bonded with Merin and her importance to his perspective. She is as much his foil as Trilla is, only Merin is his emotional foil while Trilla is more physical. The way he gains Merin's trust by offering her his saber is a as much a contrast to his learning about Trilla as the direct contrasts between him watching his two masters through the glass and forging the saber from theirs. Merin's perspective is also part of defining Cal's. She's the one who suggests that he would be the one putting the children at risk. And she is the one who ultimately offers him the path and saves him in the end. The parallels in the game, from his two masters, to the duels with Malicos and the Ninth Sister, the two birds, dual sabers, the deepest contrast and comparison is Trilla and Merin.
My favorite piece of background storytelling comes from Ilum. A world that is sacred amongst the Jedi. The place where younglings become Padawans. They are sent to find their first kyber crystal to create their own lightsaber. As such it was a smart move to have your first visit to the planet to have no imperial presence at first glace. Even the planet on the loading screen hide the twist that is coming on your first visit. There are no enemies, just a series of platforming challenges. That is mainly because you cannot use your lightsaber at this point but it also creates a sense of rest and peace (in a weird way). You have hope that the Empire has not found Ilum. That is until you leave the caves to come face to face with the Empire and the massive trench they have dug out in their quest to harvest the crystals within for their ultimate weapon. The trench also serves as foreshadowing for Starkiller Base seen in the force awakens. Stealing Kyber crystals was bad enough, but to turn Ilum into a literal superweapon is the ultimate blow to the Jedi and their order. As you escape the Empires compound, the Jedi Temple is destroyed by the Empire. Nowhere is safe from the Sith in these dark times. When you leave the planet (and on repeated visits for collectables you may have missed) the trench is front and center in the foreground of the planet. And this piece of visual storytelling aids in Cals decision to destroy the holocon. Nowhere is safe from the Empire. If Ilum, a world in the unknown regions, a world only known to the Jedi could be found by the Empire, then any world can. It is only a matter of time. Even more so when they have fallen Jedi on their side. Who either willingly joined the Empire (e.g. Vader and the Grand Inquisitor) or those who were tortured into service as the only means of survival (e.g. The Second Sister).
One of my favorite quotes of all time (that is poignant to this game) is from a Green Lantern comic. It comes from a representative of the Blue Lanterns (that signify hope). Paraphrasing a bit, the quote is: "Hope is the most powerful emotion, because other emotions are reactionary, whereas Hope is a choice"
I'm really glad you made this video :) So much of the discussion around Fallen Order is pretty surface-level, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who played the game and really connected with its story about trauma survivors coming together and choosing to heal. And WOW, this came out on my birthday?? I'm only seeing it now, but I'll consider it a late present.
This perfectly explains why imo Fallen Order is one of the best Star Wars stories. And for me from Order 66 onward i was right there with Cal, feeling the highs and lows, and when he gets knighted, i felt like I was getting knighted, we both had been on this journey, we both earned and learned what it is to be a Jedi. I will also say i think the whole "Failure of the Jedi thing" was handled much better here then in the Last Jedi concept. I do hope the sequal adds a bit more rpg elements and one game mechanic i have a major issue with is being aggressive helps you regain your force in combat when personally i don't think as a jedi killing and attacking should be the thing that gets you your force back.
Wait, what? How is this video from a guy I’ve never heard of one of the most interesting and engaging videos I’ve seen on TH-cam in a long time? I’m literally sending this out to all my friends that have played this game!
This is actually a genuinely enlightening analysis of the game, even tho I thoroughly enjoyed the game since it came out the game my main question thats bounced around my head is "Why Dark Souls?" like of all the choices they could've made for a story driven star wars game why choose one that resets your progress relatively far back whenever you fail? (and you will fail) This video has finally made me understand it, while it's still not my personal favorite style of gameplay I now feel it actually serves to re-enforce the themes of the story. Thanks brother! Keep up the great videos!
This is the best video essay on the platform that I’ve seen, I feel myself coming back to it at least once a week and I find myself understanding this vision even more. Thank you for this video❤️
It's great how Cals confidence in his powers and conection to the force grows at the same time the players abilities grow. I'm not sure I've played a game, that does that as well as Fallen Order, before. I loved the scene where Cal and Cere drop down to Nur. Cal looks like he has major flashbacks to the last time he was in an escape pod. Last time he was afraid, but now he overcomes that fear and calms himself. Last time he fled from the empire, this time he is breaking into their facility. The ending of him deciding to destroy the holocron, protecting the children, instead of bringing them into this dangerous way of life is also perfect. I hope the next game will have more friendly NPCs and a couple more characters and locations from the shows and movies.
This is old video but I have to say, I LOVE JFO. I finally was able to play it on December 2022. And Now even having the full confirmation of the sequel and I sumply can't wait. I love hte game, the Characters and the Story. Being the sequence after the Order 66 flashback and all of Ilum my favourite part of the game, I Love Cal and can't wait to see what awaits us in Survivors!!
I am here from the 3 part clone wars documentary/video essay. I have never actually felt ANGER over how little appreciation someone’s channel and videos get. That is, until I accidentally stumbled across part 1 of your clone wars doc. It’s immediately evident that you put a ton of time, passion, and effort into your content and it’s a god damn crime that you don’t have more recognition. Liked, subbed, and sharing with all my friends. We’ll get you there on day, bro! ❤️ Keep going!!
What is also a great detail is how Vader is portraied. In many games he would be the endboss, the one you have to defeat. But not in Jedi: Fallen Order. There he is portraied as the powerhouse he ist. It would be unreasonble to belive that he coud defeat Vader. Instead it is your job to escape him, to only survive, to stay with your realistic options.
This is really well put together!! You're soooo underrated!! I loved this game and the story, and this video essay really demonstrates this!! Awesome job!
Starting the video by talking about failure, and touching on the failures of the protagonists of each Skywalker trilogy, is so powerful. Excellent video.
I've watched your series about the clone wars and this today. Mate you are one of the hidden gems of youtube! I wish you the best on your future on youtube. May the force be with you!
Dude! Your content is amazing! I love Star Wars universe and I like new angle to view it. I am not that focused, when I play or watch movies/ series. Thas why I need videos like this one. Thank you! :D
i watched all your videos about star wars in a day, the way you do your videos is amazing, the editing, the way you speak about the topic, all is amazing, i hope you gain more recognition because you deserve it, good job.
This game ignited my love for star wars Like I've always enjoyed the series but this game made me understand why so many people held it in such high regard
This is such a good video, after replaying the game and watching this video, I love the game more than I ever have. I honestly cried a few times, this was such an emotional video. Keep up the great work, you make some of the best video essays I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
"Pass on what you have learned. Strength, mastery,...but weakness, folly, failure also. Yes, failure most of all. The greatest teacher failure is."-Yoda
OH, IF THERE WAS ONLY SOLUTIONS TO BIG ISSUES Like Homeless People and No-Knock-Raids or Drug-Overusage or Such-and-Such. Oh, if TH-camr Some More News only had come up with really good Solutions. ...Oh, wait, he did. He made multiple videos about 'Simple, obvious Solutions to Simple, Obvious Problems'.
Fallen Order came out at the perfect time. Right after Luke struggled with this same story, but dealing with the consequences of the other path taken. He rebuilt the Jedi, thought that would fix everything, then his Order fell. He spends the rest of the Sequels trying to accept that consequence and come back. Cal here took the other path, and he earned that right. I felt Fallen Order completed what TLJ didn't have time to fully develop, that being the Jedi's failures and what else can be done.
Fallen order is by far my favourite singleplayer game, Ive played through it more times than I can count and have 100%ed everything in atleast 1 save file which I like to go back to every once in awhile to read all the data logs, and with a sequel on the horizon I cant wait to feel it all over again
I started this game thinking it wasn’t going to compare to dark souls emotionally, but just as dark souls hit my depression...This game hit my will, my desire to succeed and deal with failure. If Star Wars can continue being this good then I’ll have faith in it again. Ever since the sequels and EA’s many mistakes, I’ve been unable to enjoy Star Wars...but now with bad batch, and things like this coming out...I’m enjoying star wars more...
Fantastic video. I couldn't sadly enjoy this game as my missing right hand just made it too much of a struggle. I had to rely on watching it on TH-cam. I still loved it that way.
This game had a clear message and it showed it excellently! I remember I got the game despite the skepticism around at the time and I got into it right off the bat! I managed to finish the game in a weekend and I played it again over a week to finish it 100% on master difficulty. That is how much I loved this game. The story, characters, atmosphere, soundtrack, all of it! Except for the optimization. My PC didn't like this game... Hats off to the creators of the game and to you for making this video! Criminally underrated channel
I really like how Merrin and Cal sort of have similar powers and they utilize them in different, but similar ways. Cal can sense Force Echoes, while Merrin can physically raise her dead Nightsister friends. Cal uses the Force Echoes to heighten his understanding of the world, himself and others. He keeps their memories alive in spirit through him, much like how Jaro Tapal, Eno Cordova, Cere and even Trilla are with him wherever he goes. Finding Force Echoes gives you experience (quite literally) and enriches the world (again, quite literally) by illuminating the backgrounds. What used to be a meaningless corner with a dead body is now the brave last stand, or the fatal mistake of some long-forgotten soul. But now Cal knows of it and keeps it in his heart, letting it at least in tiny parts guide his life. Merrin, meanwhile, uses her necromancy to fight off intruders to a desolate, meaningless ruin. She utilizes her sisters in a futile way to keep the memory of Dathomir and the Nightsisters alive. It exists, the dead are shambling around, but there is no life to it. There is no point to it, no point to Merrin, until she tags along with Cal. Through her journey she'll be able to keep the true memory of Dathomir alive and I'm hoping that a sequel might do something with that as well (like her finding a new group of people that will, spiritually, become the new Nightsisters).
Thank you. I watched this after playing the game and you've made sense of how I found it the most satisfying thing I've played in ages. Like so many others, I'm surprised you don't have more followers but the quality of your work will surely take you far.
5:59 Oh boy! I know what you mean......On my first playthrough, I had to fight ogdo like 8 times before I figured out how to beat him. It really made me learn how to properly parry instead of simply hacking at him.
One of the writers for the game just tweeted this video out, so at least there is some justice in this world
This channel is so criminally underrated it’s unbelievable
So much effort for such little gain. It is clearly passion that drives this kind of content. Mad respect

The "failure is not the end" scene was absolutely amazing. It gives me goosebumps. I have played through the game a couple more times just to build up to that scene. Saw this in my recommended rewatching the “Failure is not the end, my friend” Ilum scene.
Glad I clicked.

Thats actually pretty interesting, maybe purple as a possibility as well, like if you have a really aggressive play style or something
i was thinking of a similar idea on my very first playthrough. You cam up with a brilliant idea i think. I just had a desire for it to mean something or have some purpose and this idea is great to fulfill that desire.

I come back to this video every now and then because it's just that good. I remember when you only had 15k subs. Now you have nearly 4x that.
HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY!
I do hope the sequal adds a bit more rpg elements and one game mechanic i have a major issue with is being aggressive helps you regain your force in combat when personally i don't think as a jedi killing and attacking should be the thing that gets you your force back.
i never could articulate why i loved the story so much, but this does it perfectly. thank you.
I love this game so much, i feel like you put the reasons why so succinctly
Great review. What you show here is not only one of the best games I’ve ever played, but also one of the greatest Star Wars stories ever told.
Wait, what? How is this video from a guy I’ve never heard of one of the most interesting and engaging videos I’ve seen on TH-cam in a long time? I’m literally sending this out to all my friends that have played this game!
"Not only is Cal weak in the force"
His exploration use of first ability is levels above Kylo's signature move from ep 7.
The complex moral, emotional, mental, and spiritual lessons from this game make it seem like a classic work of epic poetry
(and you will fail)
This video has finally made me understand it, while it's still not my personal favorite style of gameplay I now feel it actually serves to re-enforce the themes of the story.
Thanks brother! Keep up the great videos!
I've fallen in love with your video essays, my guy. It's amazing and is inspiring me.
You're gonna become a big name in the video essay corner of TH-cam, I can see it. Keep up the good work my dude!
I've only just found this channel and I'm already loving it it's nice to know there's people that share the same passion for star wars
Watched this video three times over the span of a year, still makes me cry.
🙏
I am here from the 3 part clone wars documentary/video essay. I have never actually felt ANGER over how little appreciation someone’s channel and videos get. That is, until I accidentally stumbled across part 1 of your clone wars doc. It’s immediately evident that you put a ton of time, passion, and effort into your content and it’s a god damn crime that you don’t have more recognition. Liked, subbed, and sharing with all my friends. We’ll get you there on day, bro! ❤️ Keep going!!
Your videos are always so well written and constructed, love Fallen Order and this video gives me more appreciation and respect for the game.
This is the only game I’ve ever platinumed, I’ve been binging all ur Star Wars vids, you are amazing
Commenting for the algorithm because this channel is criminally underrated
What is also a great detail is how Vader is portraied. In many games he would be the endboss, the one you have to defeat. But not in Jedi: Fallen Order. There he is portraied as the powerhouse he ist. It would be unreasonble to belive that he coud defeat Vader. Instead it is your job to escape him, to only survive, to stay with your realistic options.
been binging a fallen order play-through for the past few weeks so that i can watch this documentary and I'm finally finished wooooo!!!
Your channel is criminally underrated. Please keep at it and you will grow because you put in the effort.
As a huge SW and SWEU fan, I'm in love with this game. Really and truly.
An excellent and well thought out analysis of a truly great Star Wars tale.
You put into words my exact feelings when finally completing this masterpiece. Thank you and very very well done.
You did it justice, that's actually an understatement. Clone wars too. Watched them all today.
Can't wait to check out the rest of your vids. Subbed.
This is really well put together!! You're soooo underrated!! I loved this game and the story, and this video essay really demonstrates this!! Awesome job!
Starting the video by talking about failure, and touching on the failures of the protagonists of each Skywalker trilogy, is so powerful. Excellent video.
Everything this game made me feel, you have put into words in such a perfect manner. You are amazing!
Your channel is incredible! I've come to the conclusion, I think I could listen to you talk about anything.
Glad I found this channel wish there was more videos. What about a mandolorian video? Hope you got a new one when I check back! Keep up the good work
I LOVE this game, wish there was more like it. "Failure, is not the end friend."
More views, people! 👍
This channel deserves all the attention it can get!
I've watched your series about the clone wars and this today. Mate you are one of the hidden gems of youtube!
I wish you the best on your future on youtube. May the force be with you!
I can't wait for your Jedi survivor video oh boy!
I loved Fallen Order before this video, now I love it even more.
Dude! Your content is amazing! I love Star Wars universe and I like new angle to view it. I am not that focused, when I play or watch movies/ series. Thas why I need videos like this one. Thank you! :D
I felt super connected toward what you're talking about while watching. Thanks for the video! Just watched the Clone War Part 1 as well!
i watched all your videos about star wars in a day, the way you do your videos is amazing, the editing, the way you speak about the topic, all is amazing, i hope you gain more recognition because you deserve it, good job.
This game ignited my love for star wars
Like I've always enjoyed the series but this game made me understand why so many people held it in such high regard
This is such a good video, after replaying the game and watching this video, I love the game more than I ever have. I honestly cried a few times, this was such an emotional video. Keep up the great work, you make some of the best video essays I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
The music and the story was what made this game so great for me. For me the music has always been what made Star Wars feel so amazing.
yeah, i cried during this game. i totally admit that.
"Pass on what you have learned. Strength, mastery,...but weakness, folly, failure also. Yes, failure most of all. The greatest teacher failure is."-Yoda
Just played through for the first time. One of my favorite Star Wars stories. Excellent essay. Can’t wait to see more of Cal’s story
OH, IF THERE WAS ONLY SOLUTIONS TO BIG ISSUES
Like Homeless People and No-Knock-Raids or Drug-Overusage or Such-and-Such.
Oh, if TH-camr Some More News only had come up with really good Solutions.
...Oh, wait, he did. He made multiple videos about 'Simple, obvious Solutions to Simple, Obvious Problems'.
This channel is absolutely AMAZING I’m so glad I’ve found it!!!
Ragtag didn't have a "failed development", EA just thought they were taking too long so they shut the whole project down.
im really hoping jedi: survivor continues this quality of star wars games
Fallen order is by far my favourite singleplayer game, Ive played through it more times than I can count and have 100%ed everything in atleast 1 save file which I like to go back to every once in awhile to read all the data logs, and with a sequel on the horizon I cant wait to feel it all over again
it has been two years since i saw this video and i'm still thinking about that intro with cal playing cere's song. amazing.
I started this game thinking it wasn’t going to compare to dark souls emotionally, but just as dark souls hit my depression...This game hit my will, my desire to succeed and deal with failure. If Star Wars can continue being this good then I’ll have faith in it again. Ever since the sequels and EA’s many mistakes, I’ve been unable to enjoy Star Wars...but now with bad batch, and things like this coming out...I’m enjoying star wars more...
i didn't know it was possible but this video has made me love the game even more
Fantastic video.
