This was the VERY FIRST dish that I learned to cook when I got married, back in 1972. It is STILL my 'Go-To-Meal', 50 years later! So lovely to see the 'Hello Fresh' take on it - very similar to mine. I've had to adapt it slightly, as I've been diagnosed as Coeliac (UK spelling), so now using Cornflour instead of 'regular flour'.
I had to watch this because I just made shepherds pie yesterday for my daughter and granddaughter! Was a staple I made all the time when my kids were little.
Shepherds pie (or cottage pie which you made) - A great Winter staple food for me. I thank my dad as he is the best cook ever and gave me his tips (taught me so many German Recipes too). Swap the mash for thin sliced potatoes - - You got yourself a hot pot !!! I love your videos - - keep them coming.
I don’t know how they taught that but they did mention in a video about the kitchen that their new cook top is not hot to the touch. Which they were happy about for Abbie so she doesn’t accidentally touch it it’s also why you see them put all kinds of random items on the cook top even while on. The pans will for sure be hot though.

This is a very different recipe than Shepherd's Pie here in Canada. It's ground beef, then a can of corn or cream corn on top of the beef and then topped with the mashed potatoes. It looked so strange watching all those other ingredients going in it.
Have not heard of Shepherd's pie with corn or cream corn. What most people make (in Britian) is cottage pie it's with beef, carrots and peas topped with mash potatoes and grated cheese. Shepherd's Pie is with lamb.
It must have taken you ages to peel those potatoes like that! You'll save yourself a lot of time if you find a tutorial and learn how to peel them. Trust me! The top is burnt like that because you put the pie on the nearest rack to the broiler. Lower it down a level or two and watch it like a hawk. Other than that it looked pretty tasty!

My daughter is a month younger than Abbie, she is obsessed with shepherds pie. 3-4 helpings if you let her. She has autism as well as Dravet syndrome. I wish she would eat as well as Abbie though. We have maybe 4 meals she will eat!oh and for Asa she eats so many tomatoes- 1 tub a day easily. She wants to know why you don’t like tomatoes as they are the best!
This was like a 10min HelloFresh commercial...I know HelloFresh pays the bills, but this was too much. I should have taken a shot every time they said “HelloFresh”, I’d be in a coma by the end. Sheesh

Hello Cilla from the Uk. I watch all of your families vlogs and find you all inspirational. I too have onion glasses just like yours, they work a treat. As a cafe/restaurant owner of some 30 years I have made many a pie, here in the UK Sheperds pie is made with Lamb and Cottage pie is made with beef, I was wondering what meat you were using.
I had no clue onion goggles were a thing. My fiance does our cooking and he's constantly talking about how he hates cutting onions. I just bought him a pair on Amazon after watching this video. 😂
So fun fact for those reading the comments, Shepherds pie is actually made with lamb or mutton (hence the name SHEPHERDS pie) while what most people, especially in the United States, actually make is called COTTAGE PIE and is made with ground beef. 😊 Idk why but this is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves and drives me nuts when people do it here in the states. Its the only food related thing I'm a huge "snob" about lol I see it all the time and because us Americans typically make it with ground beef all the recipes you'll see for it have ground beef but still call it shepherds pie instead of the correct name which is cottage pie. Very interesting.
Question from a Brit (who grew up on shepherd's pie from leftover roast lamb mum used up) do you eat much lamb in the states? I don't feel I see people cook with it at all. At least not compared to what I see in English supermarkets. A leg of lamb would be a traditional Easter roast for my family.

I guess everyone's Shepard's pie is different. Mine is ground beef with gravy & corn on the bottom then mashed potatoes on top. After heated melt that cheese on top. We never use our broiler. 🤔 Idk why. But this looked good, just missing the corn.

Was the Shepard’s pie made with Lamb mince? In England it’s lamb mince for Shepard’s pie and beef mince for cottage pie.

Keep in mind that you have to use the meals within 3-4 days. Otherwise the produce goes bad.
