@@MattysCars It's surprisingly less thirsty than most of its rivals from what I've seen (even the V6 one), the diesel ones (including the V6 diesel engine which was actually built by Isuzu) are very good in terms of fuel economy despite the fact that this car is as aerodynamic as a truck.

Had a 2.2 diesel one of these... hands down one of the overall best cars I've ever had, period - having owned Cayennes, CLs and a host of new Audis. I would love to get into a low-mileage one again, probably a diesel too.
Ah! Thanks to clever technology I found that you had other less contentious and much more balanced and enjoyable videos with a growing USP. Super. More of them! Rob
Good Job Matty! Just want to mention to the maybe interested ones: don't go for the the 2.2 Diesel and even not for the 3.0....to much probs! Best choice is the newer 2.0 diesel and 3.5Gasoline if you can afford the consumption.
My dad had a Vel Satis and I will never forgive him for getting rid of it. Grew up poor but their resale value was literally on the floor so we could afford one. I remember one night on a quiet motorway he pushed 100mph in it and it was the most boring 100mph ever, silent, smooth.
I wish French cars like this were sold in the USA. They definitely were a lot more interesting and still are than a lot of the stuff on sale here today.
Honestly so funny once again Matty, loved this! I actually completely forgot about this car so thanks very much for reminding me of how dreary it looks :)
I had a little look when I was researching this car. They are surprisingly cheap. But a lot of them are on very high millage due to the car being bought for doing long journeys.
Bruh, that's really good production! Get a gimbal for better shots, and you're really good 8) If you'd like a better thumbnail, hit me up on here or anywhere tbf
Cheers mate! Tbh I usually do the driving segment using a tripod but I wasn't expecting to be allowed to drive it so by the time I did, the camera had died and I had to use my phone. Thanks, I might message you
Samuel Bomorse I know😅 There’s already been some confusion about this. It is definitely the 3.5 Petrol because I was asked to fill the car up with petrol. So I’m assuming the badge on the side is a replacement
I've just checked the MOT history online, definitely the petrol. Maybe it's had a new door at some point. The car had only done 56K on the last MOT! It's not failed too many times considering the fact it's a large, old Renault 😁
That’s right only 56k. The owner does very little mileage per year but has had some issues with the car over the years. He’s also had a lot of offers and first refusals for the car
They are so tempting, there's one on Facebook currently same engine and spec which has had tons of work done, for £1900. But I owned a 2006 Laguna DCi and I had nothing but engine issues, so it puts me off the Vel Satis. Shame though as I love an ugly car 😁
It’s always a risk with a French car isn’t it. The smaller the engine the less there is to go wrong. And the more electronics there are the more there is to go wrong
@@MattysCars I've been looking at two known temperamental French cars this week; Peugeot 1007 and a C3 Pluriel 😬 I currently have a 1.0ltr 2004 Daihatsu Charade. It's basic but because it's so low geared, it's like shit off a shovel. Everyone who drives it raves about how nippy it is. It's so much fun launching away from the lights and leaving people in much more powerful cars for dead 😂 I've been looking for something bigger and better equipped, but I just can't bring myself to part with the Charade. It does 58-63MPG without trying, £30 a year tax, tyres are only £27 each and it costs £28 to fill the tank. It's so reliable and has only done 44K miles from new. I don't trust buying another car, especially something with a complicated diesel and lots of electrical items.
The description explains about insurance. Basically when I talked about the "cheeky drive" I was referring to turning the car around and parking it for the owner (off camera) But after later being asked to drive to the petrol station, temporary insurance was taken out.
Watch the brochure video here: th-cam.com/video/EJxvy-KaJH4/w-d-xo.html
(The door of this vehicle has been replaced it IS the 3.5 Petrol)
It's the same pleasure to listen to you speaking of this car as as if one was driving it. Classy, without being pretentious, thank you 👍🙂
The pleasures all mine. Glad you enjoyed the video
Great Review from beautiful RENAULT Vel Satis :) 🚗 Many Greetings from Styria, Austria 🇦🇹, Christoph
Your channel 100 percent deserves more viewers and subscribers
Thank you, really appreciate your comment :)
This is some high quality content. Thanks Matty!
Hey no problem!
That engine sounds fantastic.
Such a capable engine. I could have drove for miles in it. But all the engines were quite thirsty I believe
Same engine as the one used in the Nissan 350Z, that's why.

One of the finest automotive reviews. Well done, Matty
Cheers pal!
Really nice job, much better than most "professionals" on YT!
Vel Satis and Avantime were crazy but good and unique.

Was it reliable? Good luck finding one, especially low mileage!
@@MattysCars The German market seems to have good ones - mine was exported from Germany. Didn't skip a beat in a year of ownership.
Very cool. My dad used to have a Safrane. Not as daring as this, but same rationale behind it, lovely car.
Still a brilliant car though with some unique features!
I loved the Vel Satis when is came out; it looked so futuristic while also being big and comfy.
Prehaps the Avantime wasn't the only one "ahead of it's time"
Great review. The sound that the boot makes closing is normal. My dad bought one of these majestic beauties new and it's the same exact noise.
Ah! Thanks to clever technology I found that you had other less contentious and much more balanced and enjoyable videos with a growing USP. Super. More of them!

Thanks Rob!
I'm not too fond of French cars but the Renault Del Satis is a car I would buy! I wish they would sell the car in the States under the Nissan Brand!
Great cars
I don't know why, but I love French Cars, the luxurious ones in special.
Luxury French cars are something special

Sounds boss. What did he replace it with? I'm guessing it never matched up

The UK is much the same now with French cars. They're not as interesting as they used to be
A "demi Van" for exexutive flagship ....pure avantgard.

On a mainstream car yeah
If you had the chance to would you review the citroen c6
Definitely!
@@MattysCars I might plan to buy one. Maybe but not sure yet. But I would really love one
You can get a Vel Satis for quite cheap. As of 25/10/2020, there are 2 on Auto Trader. 1 is £1000 and another is £3000, not bad for such a rare car
I had a little look when I was researching this car. They are surprisingly cheap. But a lot of them are on very high millage due to the car being bought for doing long journeys.
@@MattysCars Yeah one had 100k and the other 150k I believe
Nice video. I love cars not sold in the US, especially ones with absurd designs.
It's not really absurd because it's functional and the car comfortable like an SUV. It's just very quirky.

It is indeed 😊
French officials favoured this car during the 2000s. It was even président Sarkozy's official car.
