Beach Fishing at Shoreham: Catching Plaice, Sole, and Smoothhounds!

  • Travelled to a local beach near Shoreham harbour in Sussex to target plaice or smoothounds.
Weather was strong westerlies increasing with stormy and thundery weather behind us, We were plagued with weed for the first half of the day as we fished the tide down.
Then decided to walk to the Eastern arm of Shoreham harbour.
Watched a local angler catch some decent smoothounds and took his advice and were rewarded with some nice plaice and a small Dover sole.

I've fished the beach you're on and the and the beach behind the groyne since you made this video! Had a bass on that beach (high tide) but it was so choppy I was pleased to get anything. On the beach behind the groyne I just had whiting (at night) lots of bites but nothing big. On the beaches in front of the car park I had dogfish, conger, and whiting (lots) again at night.
the loos now seem to be open all night!

Hi Kerry, have been out the last two weekends and nothing you certainly had better luck. Am out again tomorrow further afield to Pevensey after a ray or two.
Even Andy struggled to catch, but as we all know that’s fishing and why we do it cheers Paul 👍😃🐠🐠🍺

Hi Martin a hidden gem and never know why I have never fished there. Yep a bit of a trudge but well worth it, no litter and very uncrowded with friendly anglers. Very different to Brighton Marina a big 5 stars for me. Envious of where you live and have always wanted to be near the sea cheers for commenting and watching take care Paul 👍🐠🐠👍

Glad you caught in the end. I think that unisex loos are the way forward. Urinals are soo last year. Just as well you didn’t need a number 2. Stay safe and tight lines.Mike

Morning paul , another great film matey. I love the stories ,i think that council guy had you over , bet he was laughing his head off when he drove off lol. Yes i no that feeling paul when your debating shall i sack it or plod on for a bit longer. You made the rite call moving. Local info worth a million dollars. You could of fished the other side and blanked. The weed still a problem in the humber, last week it was bladder rack which does pull off easy not like that other stuff we call tampax weed. But just collects round rig and leads. Im itching to get on beach but really small tides this week so think im going to sit on my hands till friday or so. Any way paul good luck next week buddy and all the best from GY.

Hi Carl from down in the weedy south and the council guy no doubt is telling the story to his mates about the idiot in the ladies lol.
It was really getting in my head with the weed as we plan and look forward to fishing, I can deal with windy weather, rain and rough sea but weed aargh 😡😡
Still that is reality of nature and if not weed then spider crabs 🦀 cannot beat local knowledge and glad I moved as it was great to catch but lost the smoothie to a roomy mistake clutch/ drag to tight. Off to Deal next weekend for more fishing take care cheers Paul 👍👍👍

Great vid Paul ,and a good variety of fish well done , as for the toilet business, Aldi do sell a portable toilet , so providing you have your shelter with you , you should be good , I'm going to invest in one as I have a bladder the size of a pea 🤣once again great vid and be lucky 👍🎣

Hi fellow thanks for watching and great comments made my wife laugh re toilet but a good idea on crowded beaches.shows my age as I am like a mouse wanting to go to the loo all the time. I think I could write a toilet guide to the south coast lol cheers Paul 👍👍👍🐠🐠

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment really appreciated.
Goodness that video reminds me how fast time goes as a wee while ago.
Have not had too many outings of late as a few lumps and bumps of life got in the way. A few more hurdles to get over but am aiming to go this weekend on Sunday to Selsey and haven’t been doing a lot of catching and more watching when I have been out lately 😂 so hoping to see a fish or two 🤞🤞 take care cheers 😃👍👍🐠🐠🍻

Last time I went there (East arm) not to fish - there was a huge gate there. Is that open now Paul?
