I agree he made the song better. This version is sublime. But I wouldn't say it's the ONLY song made better than the original. Bob Dylan only plays Jimi Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower because it is better than his original. Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is better than Leonard Cohen's (but only marginally imo). Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" is another one.

i had the privilege of playing keys with Joe in the late 70s for a couple of tours. pretty rough time for him. even so, he was the sweetest soul imaginable, funny and humble. and i never played a show without getting goosebumps listening to him sing. he was the real deal and he sang every note straight from the heart. a favorite memory is a show we played in Germany. Richie Havens was on the bill with us and he came on stage and sang "You Are So Beautiful" as a duet with Joe. Richie standing back away from the mic with his hands clasped behind his back, singing ever so gently, and Joe, well, being Joe with all the passion he always brought to that song. every one of us on stage was in tears by the end of the tune. godspeed Joe and thanks for the indelible memories.

@@merklingassoc I read in an article that during an interview he reavealed that 'You Are So Beautiful' was his favorite. Wow, awesome that you caught that in the passion with which he sang that beautiful song. I'd also read that his voice cracked at the end of that 1975 studio recording. He apologied for losing his voice, saying that he'd do it over. I don't remember who nor how many told him that his voice cracking was what put so much emotion into the song, providing the perfect ending. It couldn't have been scripted any better. They kept it in. Yes, I think you got that so right, that was soul, and it made the song his.

Never a more passionate singer. Joe Cocker put every fibre of his being into his trademark vocals. For us baby boomers, Cocker's rendition of "With A Little Help From My Friends" can transport us back to those crazy days of the late 1960's. Indelible memories. It pleases me no end to see younger generations equally enchanted with his music. Godspeed Joe. RIP.

That's so funny because I have a 31 year old daughter a 33 year old son and a 41 year old daughter. They all listen to all the music I grew up with, because that's all that was ever played in our homes and cars!!
I often joke with them, hey does your generation have any good music? LOL Yes I know they do, however nowhere near the 60s and seventies, and Early 80's. The Very best years for music, this entire century!!!!!. They know all these songs by hearts.
Should I ever meet a man who could sing to me like that, I wouldn't care what he looked like, how smart or wealthy, nor much of anything. I'd marry him tomorrow. Can you imagine being sung to like that every night? What an amazing turn on. Unfortunately, I learned this at about 50. I wish I had known this at 24. oh well when your beauty fades, and you find out what's really important in life, sometimes it's just a tad too late. Don't be a dumb you know what like me! Look always from inside out. Never from outside in. Words of wisdom from somebody who screwed up Big time!

I have been wild over Joe Cocker forever and I’m 70 yrs. He was great in the 60’s, and awesome every decade after. RIP. He and Leon Russell were a good team. Mad Dogs and the Englishman……..

Joe brings this macnificient Beatles song to the next level. Many great songs followed like the Lettre with Leon Russel….
A Great artist which makes his scream, a form shortcomming voice technical, to his quality. Allways stay yourself. Don’t behave like someone who is more excellent 🧡💪🏻🧡💪🏻

I bought my mother her first zenith wooden floor model am/FM record player stereo in 1972 and the first record album was joe cocker mad dogs and englishmen. She loved joe and her new stereo! I don't think she ever turned the stereo off for almost a year. Joe cocker is a musical icon and all in artist.

Whilst taking a music request from an elderly patient in hospital, who appeared from under the bedclothes. She said Up where we Belong. Any particular reason I asked ? I am Miss Cocker and Joe is my nephew ! We did not have it in our library. So I raced home a 20 min round trip took it from my collection and played it that evening. She was delighted. Made her day.

John Farnham's version of Help is the other. The lyrics of Help never really suited a pop song. Farnham slows it down into more of a ballad and couples that with simply insane vocal prowess. th-cam.com/video/dv54giOSRKs/w-d-xo.html This, and Joe's cover both eclipse the original.
