I've been thinking about ordering a Minilogue XD for about a month and finally did it today. This video makes me so much more excited about my purchase.
What I would give to have met someone like you along my journey into the world of dawless synthesis Thank you so much for the information and inspiration you provide
Very inspiring! For people who want to modulate the XD but don't have a modular setup: You can send out cc params with a max for live device called CC_map8 (for example cutoff on 43 and resonance on 44) and use a midi lfo (found in the max for live essentials pack) and send this out to the korg through midi.Just map the lfo to the dial of the map8. Happy music making! PS: your patch sounds a little like little louis' classic french kiss :)
Timing is so amazing in this vid. I just got a DFAM and know nothing about semi-modular, synths, CV and all the other terms along with it. A lot of help understanding these things
Hello nice vid , is there a small piece of gear that could be used to add 2 lfos for cv in of the xd ? The crave could do the job quite well but the osc doesnt go as low as an lfo
Iv had a minilogue xd for over a year using the cv inputs. I just realized it takes pitch and gate signals! haha. This is exciting . Thank you Jade. Very helpful video. Do you still own a Minilogue xd and find it useful? Curious to know your opinion on the instrument now years after its release.
Did you have to attenuate the signal from the modular? I know the XD is +/-5V, would there be risk of damaging it if the voltage from the modular is higher?
Hey I just got a minilogue xd desktop and I am so stoked! Can you tell me if it's possible to control the LFO INT via an envelope CV, so that the LFO gradually intensifies? For example if I don't want the pitch vibrato to start at the onset of the note. Thank you!
Hi Jade exactly the video i was hoping for ive got the xd and am saving up for a grandmother and will have it very soon , i hope ,just a lil more mi goreng (2 min noodle -u call it Ramen over there i think ) scurvy and it will be mine , will i be able to cv input into the GM from the XD ? Or vica versa xd to gm cv input for more modulation? Ps i love that dreadbox effects pedal u have , they are so aesthetically pleasing but also great sounding. Peace from Australia.
Awesome Video!!! Thank you! Do you have any problems with your Minilogue XD getting out of tune? Because I do. The oscs start to sound instable after like 10 mins of playing.
Glad it helped! Analog gear takes a while to get in tune, some synths even an hour. I just got used to turning things on like 30 mins before I start jammin if I'm using analog stuff
Hi Jade. I have a question about Minilogue XD : is it possible to sequence separately the 2 oscillators (with a Korg SQ-1 for example or a Beatstep pro) ? Is the CV IN 1 and 2 stand for OSC 1 and 2 ? Or do the 2 CV IN are the same and activate the 2 oscillators at the same time ? Thanx !
Honestly this makes me really want to get the xd. I don't have any hardware other than a MicroBrute, and while I enjoy it's simplicity I do think it would be cool to have a hardware polyphonic synth.
Nice! Thanks for posting this. You’ve inspired me to try some CV/MXD experiments too. Question-how are you synchronizing clock between the Mini and your modular? Maybe I missed it, or am imagining that they are in sync?
zacklur no need for the modulation, and when using the cv/gate it’s getting the clock from the modular. At the end of the video I sync with the sync in. Thanks for watching :)
Synthesisers are long done. This isn't making sounds much more interesting than 70s synths. The trouble is people haven't come up with any good waveform generation processes since.
Lmao don’t be an idiot. This is one of the most unique synths to come out in a long time. Clearly you don’t know anything about the synth in the video you’re commenting on. Any synth has thousands of possible routings and sounds available. Just because you can’t hear it or make it yourself doesn’t mean they’re “long gone”. Don’t be such a pretentious ass. You could probably see for yourself if your head wasn’t up your ass.
That's such an absurd statement. Go tell a mix engineer that "synths are long gone" and he'll laugh you right outta the studio. Infinite possibilities exist with every instrument.
@@zachstout7747 He is right in way. You can get infinite possibilities if you slice the same bread too, but it is still the same bread. He is talking about synthesis itself. First there was analog then came FM, then Wavetable and Physical modeling. Recently nothing new hasn't been invented. Why buy new gear when you can use 80s or 90s stuff.
@@mdjey2 if an FFT analysis could speak, it'd tell you that transformers and opamps have their own sound and tone. 80s synths are great for when you need 80s synths, but there needs to be a means to creating any sound, right down to the sonic character of its innards. Think I see where you're coming from tho

That was an education right there by golly. Thank you!
You're welcome :)
After looking at the Elektron Digitone, for days, I'm back to thinking the XD is not that complicated, after all. lol! Thanks for the CV demo!

Torin Webster Thanks for watching :)
Not all the terms in this video apply to only semi modular synths. You should probably study up some more to really get the most out of it.
Brilliant! This is the Minilogue XD video I've been waiting for! :)
Super-useful; thanks for making it!

What's causing the stringed like bass sound by the last part of the video?
If i send only 0->+5v to CV IN in modulation mode, could i access to the full range of the parametee that i modulate (from 0 to 100% of the value)?

this is so dope.nice arpeggio
Abel Martinez thanks!
I love you, love your t-shirts and how much i learn with your vids :)

it is possible to control a Roland Sh2 via cvgate? (12v)

is there a way to manipulate the volume via CV? thanks in advance

Ben H. Can’t go wrong for the price!
@@JAdeWii_ Good to know! Thanks :D
Hey, as someone who just "upgraded" from an MB to an MXD recently... it's like night-and-day! You'll LOVE the MXD. Save up and grab it!
@@xnflg3074 Ok, thanks! :D
could you control the cv with the SQ1 step sequencer? love to see that video
using the CV A/B split on the SQ1 to the CV in A/B on the minilogue
Am I crazy or does this sound better than the OG Minilogue?
They sound quite different. Also have the Monologue and its more similar to it. Although a poly synth
sweet!

Epic :) - where did you get those custom knobs from? 😍
Choko Thanks! And some from Chroma caps, others from my SP404
cool but can you please do this with a keystep since not everyone can afford thousands of dollars of modules to get 2 cv out thanks
