    Got my Minilogue XD a few days ago. Thanks for the tips, it helped me to understand how to build a patch. The interaction between amp eg and eg sections is difficult to figure it out when you come from the world of guitars! 😅

    • @Aisjam
      @Aisjam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ah, just looked into it. this is just the motion record delay. I forgot to add that you need to add 1 big note from the first step to the last step. it will keep repeating as the motion record is not a one shot, however you can change the step resolution and tempo to make it last longer

    Thanks for the excellent walkthrough! Do you mind telling me why you left the oscillator mixer knobs at 12/1 o'clock? Thanks again!

    • @Aisjam
      @Aisjam  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sort of treat it like the moog grandmother mixer out of habit. If you go past 12 oclock on the grandmother, the circuit distorts the signal which is cool. It also gives me head room with the oscillators.

    Great work. I enjoyed all the patches except for "detune." The modulation on that one was a little too seasick for my taste.

    You need a DeepMind, but this is great, too!

    • @Aisjam
      @Aisjam  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      do like the look of the DeepMind, however my heart is set on the prologue 16. Maybe the prologue xd :D

    • @josephwright5921
      @josephwright5921 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aisjam Yes. I understand the choices. They both sound awesome, but obviously the DeepMind nails the Juno 106 because it is based upon it. I have the DeepMind, but am considering a used XD for the easy sequencing options. The question for me is, do I buy a used XD module now or save for Prologue?

    • @Aisjam
      @Aisjam  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@josephwright5921 I like the Juno sounds However the xd is more versatile in my case. Sequencer is great, which isn't on the prologue. I usually compose like I'm still writing chiptunes so 4 voices does me. The effects are amazing and stackable, not like the prologue. What the prologue does have is the duel/ layering function, I got to play one and it made me drool.
      I would love to see what korg does taking the ideas from the xd and nts-1 and applying it to their flagship.
      For your question, if you cant test both and want the sequencer, go for the xd. more voices go for the prologue.

    • @josephwright5921
      @josephwright5921 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aisjam Yes. I pretty much decided I am going to pick a used XD module, just for the ability to write quick sequences. The XD sounds like it will compliment the DeepMind nicely.
      It will be interesting to see what they come up with next. On the low end of things, we are probably due for some more Volcas soon.

    • @s3nsec0rruptr80
      @s3nsec0rruptr80 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@josephwright5921 the ability to sequence notes is great, even if 16 steps isn't much. The XD sequencer is surprisingly versatile for so few steps but it's also really cool to write a patch, and use the sequencer not for notes but to sequence motion so that the notes behave in ways that you can't create through the front panel. Check out the jexus demo and if you pay attention to the sequencer lights you'll see some of the more "how did he do that?" kinds of patches use this trick.

  • @maxberger6897
    @maxberger6897 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is awesome, can you make one for the Prologue?

    • @Aisjam
      @Aisjam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      :( I wish I had a Prologue.
      One day I hope to have one in my collection however a lot of these ideas can be easilly applied to the Prologue. I think the effects system is slightly different. and it doesnt have a sequencer to do the delayed LFO. however that duel layer keyboard more than makes up for it.
      I wanna hear some of those lush duel layered sounds you make.

    • @maxberger6897
      @maxberger6897 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aisjam You need to get one! I got mine about a year ago and love it... it can be tailored to make some really cool sounds. The built-in chorus effect on it, however, is not that great- it de-tunes the VCO's and is DEFINITELY not as good as the OG chorus effect on the Junos. I don't think any chorus effect can properly mimic Juno-106 sounds, unfortunately. I was inspired by the Stranger Things soundtrack for sure when it came to synthesis, just wish I had a 106 to re-create those! I've made some interesting patches on the Prologue that sound similar to a 106 but just can't get the exact sound- will keep trying! I followed the tutorial but the Prologue is sounding a little heavier and thicker than the Juno, I can't seem to get the right light, buzzy sound that the Juno is famous for.
      I can get a similar sound to the Juno-60 in terms of a bass-heavy sound, it's quite easy actually if you use 1 VCO, keep the EG and AMP EG at 0 and kick up the reverb and voice mode depth. It's cool to see what sounds you can recreate!

    • @Aisjam
      @Aisjam  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxberger6897 I just cant justify getting it. I Love it, I want it, but im pretty sure I would be shot if I got it.
      When I was living in Sydney, I was just around the corner from Sounds Easy, an electronic specialist music store. Had a lot of oppertunities to try out various types of synths and to play the prologue 8 and fell in love. There is something special about the Juno chorus no doubt. One day ill find the schmatic and see why. I feel the part that is missing in the minilogue and logue series is the high pass filter (monologue doesn't, all the bass :D), Just knocking off the sub low end a little bit brings out the warm and fuzzies. I Usually record the clean sound from the minilogue and add an eq and effects in daw. I have a sneeky suspission when they created the prologue and Minilogue XD, one of their goals was to create a modern "classic" synth. my research into these videos show a lot of similar workflows from the past.
      Stranger things has helped with the resurgance of analog synths, there is an interview with the musicians that made the sound track. Im pretty sure that they used an SEM for the intro theme. check out this video th-cam.com/video/lIrBQim8dzk/w-d-xo.html but they have some really cool boxes to play with. I came from Chiptune and synths seem to be the next logical step.

    • @maxberger6897
      @maxberger6897 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aisjam Korg definitely tried to create the "Modern Classic" synth with the Prologue and I think they definitely hit that target. You can edit the sounds to make it sound like a vintage Korg synth from the 70's, or edit them to make them super hi-fi.
      For Stranger Things, I watched that video as well :) The guys at Reverb disagree, they think it sounds better on a Juno-60, with the arpeggiator. I made a very similar sound the other day. They did, however, use a Prophet 5 for the bass on the track "Kids", and it sounds GREAT. That machine is a beast. Check out this video here: th-cam.com/video/8vFtEuP5SiQ/w-d-xo.html

    • @Aisjam

      This thing can rattle my room. I have a video on how to make sub bass on the monologue, that works the same on the minilogue xd.

    • @s3nsec0rruptr80
      @s3nsec0rruptr80 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've found myself occasionally disappointed with certain patches where, if you find a nice sparkly high end for melody, you can't get a good bass on the other end to anchor the melody. If you're only making a bass patch, you can do that just fine. Sinevibes makes a pack of filters that load as user mod effects. Unfortunately that means no chorus or anything (without external effects), but using a high pass filter to boost the fundamental while you find a sweet spot on the low pass filter really helps boost low end. Made some monster bass with this combination.
