Well like i have misdemeanor assault charges but that was 9 years ago and they aren't from Nevada state so does that mean I can't go to the strip now?¿?
Completely unconstitutional, you can't ban someone from being in public. If casinos want to ban people with a record that's up to them but al long as they're on a public sidewalk or street you can't tell someone they can't be there.
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchace a little temporary safty, deserve neither liberty nor safety." ~B. Franklin The 5th Amendment to the Constitution protects the right to freely travel. To enact a law or local ordance, banning the right of free travel, even on the Strip, would violate that right. Clark County and The City of Las Vegas, should realize that by enacting such an ordinance, will violate both that Amendment to the US Consititution and the very Oath of Service they took to hold a public office. While I am a firm believer that LVMPD is one of the best Departments in the Country, the officers are already taxed enough in the jobs they do now. You would need the current number of officers of the entire department to work one street, from The Strat to the Las Vegas welcome sign (6 miles), and perhaps even double that. The tax burdon alone is more than the County can afford. This is simply just a band-aid on the bigger problems that plague this city, it will fix nothing. County management needs to stop looking at individual problems and look at the County as a whole. We have greater problems that are contributing to this problem. Stop treating the symptoms this plague and insted treat the whole plague it's self. Starting with our roads.
Actually it is not a violation of rights. A private group owns and maintains the sidewalks on the strip, thus making that "Private Property". Seeing how walking in the road is illegal, they can and did do it. The city does not maintain or held responsible for any repair on the strip. Seeing how the city cannot control its Crime, this was set in place to assist the only reason Vegas is popular. Do your research before stating something is a rights violation.
@@urexpert1475 just looked up gis survey in clark county along with the maintenance maps of Clark County public works and both show it as Public property. A bit of research is easy to call BS on the private property claim
I think this would be more a 4th amendment violation is nothing else. How would anyone including police be able to know if a person is in fact a convicted person absent reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed. You should be able to be secure in your papers without unreasonable search or seizure. I do agree that the problem is a far lager issue that people refuse to look at such as homeless encampment, human trafficking and prostitution, and a large amount of drug abuse in and around the strip. I just don't see many of these so called bans will work if a person just stands in front of a judge and argues a violation of rights absent RAS
Nope, still wrong. The Companies are responsible for the maintenance of the sidewalks on The Strip, thus making it private property. Just because the Public Works is under the sidewalk, doesn't make it public. Thier property line runs all the way to the street, you honestly believe the city maintains all that landscaping and cleans the sidewalk, lmao.

Good idea but unenforceable. No amount of training for the officers is going to give them the memory they will need to remember thousands of criminals faces and recognize them. If they're convicted of a crime in the corridor then the only way to enforce this new rule is to put Lo-Jacks on all of them for that year so they can be tracked. If they remove the Lo-Jack then it's off to prison with them when they are caught.
@@Smeeks87 I don't see how they could enforce it without profiling. There's no easy answer and I agree, it's a bad idea at it's core. Just wish law-makers would think things through a lot farther before enacting a stop-gap measure (puttin' lipstick on a pig) that plain won't work.
Well good luck metro. Unless they plan on tagging said criminals with a chip like they do for pets or having them wear some type of monitor that sets an alarm off when the people who arent allowed on the strip end up on the strip... Did you not listen to anything they said in this video? Also I'd love for you to explain to me how this bill would make life harder for a citizen? It has literally nothing to do with the citizenry.
@@joeaardvark9214 SImple, police resources being tied up on such laws while other issues go ignored or giving cops more control over every day life. By fact, most laws are ignored anyway. Do you know every citizen coomits a crime several times a day, without realizing such. Read the book, Three Felonies A Day. I
@@minirunt Bro I can't make this any more simple for you. This bill is for REPEAT OFFENDERS who commit crimes ON THE STRIP. The crime spike on the strip right now involves robbery, armed robbery (muggings), larceny, assault, etc.
@@joeaardvark9214 No. it involves felonies and misdermeanors. In Nevada misdemeanors include from shoplifting, breach of peace, jaywalking and, common, drinking alcohol from a glass container (this is a misdemeanor on the strip and Fremont). In reality, a judge can already order someone he convicts as condtiion of parole or probation from going to the strip or other areas.
Thanks for your time and sharing this i am done no more casinos for me
This is the stupidest idea I've ever heard. If you don't want them on the strip then keep them in jail. If you think it's OK for them to be around locals but not tourists then wtf does that say about you?
Who's dumb enough to commit a crime in front of all the cameras and witnesses, then, reappear on the strip?
🤗❤️ I feel safe in Las Vegas because police are EVERYWHERE 😉
No way that's legal.
The City of Las Vegas did this for downtown area. Arrestees received an order out for the downtown corridor. It was later challenged by the ACLU and found unconstitutional.
The program was discontinued.
LVMPD can barely respond to normal calls let alone a gunman on the 32nd floor
Metro is a bunch of under qualified punks
They don't even come to rear end traffic collisions anymore unless a person is injured and need of medical assistant the two people change information called tow trucks that insurance deal with it without flashing lights behind you notifying the rest of the world due to have had an accident in this lane is closed and you're right how they going to respond and police the entire strip now on top of the stuff they can't do already
You right “metro would have to train for that “
Just let the casino’s handle it like back in the old days, take the crook for a ride in the desert
judges used to actually
convict back then too lol 😂 good
old days (also bring back house/cost /food cost/inflation too!)
Gooood
need this ASAP
again it's the PEOPLE
not LAS VEGAS
I had a DUI 10 years ago does that count? Its considered a crime.
That's Unconstitutional
Sounds like a ordinance that will be abused by tyrannical people that are drunk on power oh you got a speeding ticket now you can’t come to the strip for a year oh jaywalked can’t come to the strip for a year got a job well that sucks looks like you’ll be unemployed now too but be sure you pay your fine for your court case
The mob should move in again and handle the situation if they want to clean the strip. Just kidding but it'd probably work.
Well like i have misdemeanor assault charges but that was 9 years ago and they aren't from Nevada state so does that mean I can't go to the strip now?¿?
Unconstitutional
Completely unconstitutional, you can't ban someone from being in public. If casinos want to ban people with a record that's up to them but al long as they're on a public sidewalk or street you can't tell someone they can't be there.
Ridiculous!
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchace a little temporary safty, deserve neither liberty nor safety." ~B. Franklin
The 5th Amendment to the Constitution protects the right to freely travel.
@@Rafael-ll5if While you are also correct, I was just addressing the freedom of movement covered under the 5th.
Unless you're going to have facial recognization cameras AI humanoids that can scan and process facial features and identity how in the heck is there going to be like a table where everybody has to walk by show their driver's license I mean wow
They do lol
Facial recognition has been a failure…go ask Woody
Maube they won't be able to get a room, tgat will be a start.
@@gia1947 lol you mean the feature that unlocks iphone in less than a second? If you’re to stupid to understand something doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. Hahahah
That means it’s a bad idea if there’s truly no way to enforce without profiling based on the officers past experiences with “criminals”.
@@Smeeks87 I don't see how they could enforce it without profiling. There's no easy answer and I agree, it's a bad idea at it's core. Just wish law-makers would think things through a lot farther before enacting a stop-gap measure (puttin' lipstick on a pig) that plain won't work.
A year? How about 5 years or something that makes it HURT? Nah..why punish anyone at all. Seems like a useless effort with this one.
Well good luck metro. Unless they plan on tagging said criminals with a chip like they do for pets or having them wear some type of monitor that sets an alarm off when the people who arent allowed on the strip end up on the strip... Does this mean that they can't take the bus if the bus goes on the strip? Does this affect gig workers or union workers or other contractors who have people convicted of certain crimes on their payroll or is that an exception?
Should be made a Parole Violation, that would bypass any legal red tape and make it simple for police to enforce.
Exactly right. Parole violaters can be arrested on the spot. Most of the comments posted though show inability to understand this, likely Biden-Harris voters.
Parole is only for people with felony convictions
⚠️ ‘Ha !!! , #lol with that’ !!!🤣🍷
Fire them all
We all know this will not stop criminals from coming to the strip. Las Vegas just need to put more police to patrol the area.
Keep the Rat Bastards and side walk Sally's off the Strip / Good Luck 💯
Not. Gonna. Work.
Keep garbage bag color out.
Sounds like a constitutional rights issue the ACLU needs to look into.
Banishment seems pretty iffy constitutionally. Like what if you make your living in that area? There needs to be some sort of plea bargain situation: accept the risk of a year in jail or accept a night in jail and a voluntary banishment.
ahhhh i call BS
It's unconstitutional and won't hold up in court.
No NO
It's worse in Vegas than it is in Chicago it seems .. . Way over crowded too .
🤣😂 sounds like a restriction on travel, which would be unconditional. Stupid law makers don't even understand the law of the land.
It goes without saying the truth about it actually makes no real difference in controlling riffraff in around LVB just will wash them out to the service streets as this punishment is not nearly long enough to produce results in the future. I haven't seen LVB in over a year now including Fremont. The show COPS might be disappointed when they hear about this...
Hmm I’m split between this.
I like this law only reason being cause Vegas has been going down hill and people need be held accountable
On the other side it seems like cops can just stop you for no reason now.
I'm all for it great 👍🏾 👌🏾 🙌🏾 👏🏾 🙏🏾 ☺
What if you have been convicted of a thought crime?Or you have the wrong friends that the government doesn’t like? This gives government too much power.
So all the homeless off the strip in the corridor are gonna be arrested??
F*** the strip worry about being safe when you shop at Albertsons. I was robbed at the grocery store $200 worth of groceries purchased with my food stamps stolen from my card inside the store as I went back to get some more cheese
New America
RIP Sin CITY
A repeat offender law it appears, plenty of folks making living off tourist on Strip 💸💸💸
Totally impossible to impose
We need this for politicians!
That is why you never hear a politician say, “let’s go to Vegas!” , they aren’t allowed!,!
This does not deter crime. Criminals go where they arent supposed to anyways. It's called a costume and wig..
WWBD
What would Bugsy do?
Keep the Tourists safe!!
i know this is not popular but i believe that if a person is convicted and pays their debt to society they should not be barred from society. i think it puts an unfair burden on people who may not have commited a crime of violance. i can see alot of people getting caught up in this.. and like someone commented below what about the back of the house workers? Maids, Housekeeping, Cooks, Security.. i see this causing all kinds of unintended consequences.
This solves real problems, like the water level at Lake Mead.
Pipe dream paper legislation to make tourists feel like something is being done. They simply need more cops on foot bike patrol on the strip.
Do the casino hotels even have security. Cuz when i was there I only saw 1 police car. Las Vegas is pretty dangerous I got shot at last time
Keep a certain race of people off the stip and crime would be cut almost one hundred percent
It’s like SOAP probation…conditions of probation for a determined amount of time. caught in the area and it’s a probation violation..jail for the rest of your probation period.
That doesn't sound enforceable
If im not here doing crime im somewhere else in Las vegas doing crime
Thanks for the heads-up. What do you suggest?
Good luck with that!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not including the bridges! Great haven for the usual assortment of loiterers to congregate
So who's going to run the casinos? 😜
Unconstitutional.... what is wrong with people
If they think this is legal, then create a checkpoint at the Cali/NV border with drug sniffing dogs and ID checks. That would be more effective.
Why? It would back up more traffic
@@jasonn4597 so. It would keep the ghetto rats out.
Dumb idea , not going to work ! ....either longer sentences for criminals or more patrolman and increased video surveillance in troubled areas .
