You'd prob need to set up a few more compressors for helium cause it is slow Space engineers production: place down an advanced assembler or 2 with speed modules, you're done Astroneer production: complex conveyor lines
Could you use a counter sensor to delay the trade ships? Also, could you add medium resource canister on output mode as an additional buffer. That way you can continue to collect the resources but only shutting down the line completely when the storage is full?
You could use a resource canister for an additional output buffer, but it would eventually fill up on the slower resource lines, so eventually it wouldn't make a difference. As for the counter sensor delaying the ships, you could probably do that as well if you could find a way to time it all right.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer true, I like to add resource canisters in my setup as additional storage I can pull when needed. And when I pull it doesn't interrupt production as the platform will continue to move the materials.
I know most people are not gonna make this contraption. So I have a suggestion. Make the nanocarbon alloy manually and do every step. But instead of one make 32. Have medium resource canisters and use extra lage platforms. That way you don't even need auto arms, because if you have two devices two stroage and and 3rd final storage then it can all fit automatically and chemistry lab will be able to take resource from the platform. Once you have 32 nano carbon alloy I doubt you will need more. but you can always just repeat the step once you are done.
Quick question before i build it as well. 16:47 how did you hide a storage platform? What platform is it? And how to make sure the autoarm will not put any iron in the atmospheric condenser?
It took a lot of time (I guess, it would take a lot more time to craft this nanocarbon myself...), but I have built it ! 🙂With a slight tweak to operate on astronium and solid fuel jet-packs instead on soil and canisters. Btw. I have a question about power. Does it matter if my main power source is right next to this factory or in the far corner of my base ? Does the length of the cable matter ?
trade platforms with extra storage. monitor the storage full , not full this will cause a build up but requires not timing and auto arms filter from there. (med platforms b the ones with the side 2 slots and add random power object on the side not being used.)
Why soil though? Why not just set up an auto extractors to get the resin? Isn't that more efficient? I haven't built this yet nor have I used the extractor but I read it gives 15 times the amount a player gets so it just sounds like it makes sense to use it than soil no?
If you'd use the auto-extractor, you should just use it on Astronium and get the scrap that way. I'll probably cover that in the future. I just liked this because it's a permanent setup. You can always get more soil.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Well if you can automate what's there in the world, why not do that? Resin is everywhere and I don't mind not using Astronium I like what's closer to me and more convenient and getting soil just isn't convenient. It's annoying to get and boring. Oh are the Astronium deposits bigger than Resin ones? Also, what mode do you have those 4 other storage sensors for the arms that deliver into the smelters? Are they all the same as the organics one? Just making sure since you said to have a switch for the organics one but not the rest. but I don't know what would happen if/when the others get full/empty like what you said with the organics one
You press F to place a sort of junction, then you press F on said junction to get more pins out of it. (Hope I am remembering this correctly, I’m not at my computer right now)
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer thanks for replying but I rewatched the video and figured it out, I made the farm and although it took me hours it works great also pls make more vids ur like the only astroneer TH-camr I watch
It's certainly a fun aspect of the game. Farms of this magnitude aren't incredibly useful aside from exo events, but hopefully in the future automation will be a necessity in order to progress into the super late game effectively.
I did something like this using astronium and Kuya Game's tutorial Edit: You use the astronium to automaticaly buy solid fuel jump jets and then shred those to make even more scrap
Yes. I'll probably make a video on that eventually. Do everything the same except replace the soil centrifuge with a trade platform that trades astronium for solid fuel jump jets and scrap those instead of the soil canisters.
I made a system a lot less complicated with astronium or how over you spell it but I trade it to get exo chips then scrap the exo chips and use both of those resources to make the fault finder then I trade the fault finder for nano-carbon alloy
@ when you shred exo chips you get 3 scrap but when you shred jump jets you get 1.5 scrap but also when you trade you do get 8 jump jets for 4 astronium and when you trade for exo ships you get 2 exo chips for 6 astronium and when you scrap it you do get more scrap with the jump jets so you are right you get more scrap for less astronium. When I was testing what gave you the most scrap I found out the exo chips give the most but I for got to think about the trading part so you are right that it will give me more scrap
Auto arm keeps scooping my small printer, no matter what I do. I've tried moving it out of range, tried moving it too close, tried literally everything. It intends to just ruin the entire setup for no reason. It's hella irritating, because even outside of its range, it does it anyway.
Hey WCJ! I really need you to see this comment! I invented a way to automatically send the trade platform's rocket to space only when it is full, without the use of timers. My contraption is thus more reliable. You need: 1 L platform B 1 medium storage 9 compound 1 trade platform (obviously) 1 storage detector 1 count repeater 1 button repeater Now, you place ur platform down, and place the trade platform on it. Then, you fill the left side of the L platform B with 2 compound, and place a medium storage on the right side of the platform B. Then, you place 7 compound in the storage. Now, you place a storage detector on the medium storage (ONLY THE STORAGE, IT CANNOT BE CONNECTED TO THE PLATFORM) and set it to FULL OR NOT FULL , you place a count repeater on the ground next to the platform B, and set it to 4. Now, you have to connect the storage repeater with it's cable to the count repeater. Connect the count repeater with it's cable to the trade platform. You should have ONE empty socket in the medium storage, and let's call this one socket "socket important" . Now, the hardest part: place a button repeater on the ground, and connect it with it's cable to the count repeater. Now read CAREFULY: - if ur trade platform is full with scrap, and you have one scrap in the medium storage's " socket important" , use the button repeater to send FOUR signals to the count repeater. - if the "socket important" has a scrap in it, and the rocket isn't on the trading platform but in outer space, fo NOT send a signal to the count repeater. - if the "socket important " has a scrap in it, and your trade rocket has a mix of scrap and the ressource you're trading for, do NOT send a signal to the count repeater. - if the "socket important" is empty, and your trade rocket isnt full of scrap, but still has some of the ressource you trade for then send a ONE signal the the count repeater. - if the "socket important" has the ressource you ' re trading for, send TWO signals to the count repeater. - if the trade platform is FULL of scrap, and the "socket important" is empty, then send THREE signals to the count repeater. - if the trade platform and the "socket important" are both empty, then send THREE signals to the count repeater. Once the final step is done, you can remove the BUTTON repeater. Your trade platform is finally automated. IMPORTANT info: the auto arm loading the trade platform and the auto arm unloading the trade platform with scrap has to also have the "socket important" within it's range. Additionally, the unloading arm has to have the ressource you're trading for as a filter. This can also be used for astronium and fault finder trading; just replace "scrap" with "astronium" or "fault finder". I hope you'll find this helpful, wish you a great day and im sorry for my English as it is not my main language.
I have a hard time comprehending this without following along in-game step by step. I'll try to look into this later and perhaps even remaster this video to make it farm more efficient. Thanks a lot, though. I really appreciate all the effort that went into this comment.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Hey WCJ. I understand my comment may be hard to understand, so I made a video on how to make that system. There it is: th-cam.com/video/f-m6Fbo-gBI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Kalash (I promise it is not a rick roll)
Quick question, and hopefully someone can help answer me this, but are the rockets suppose to launch off on their own? If so, how? I did the setup seemingly correct like in the video, but none of the rockets launched yet. Only two did right from the start the moment they had scrap, and that was the lines for Hematite and Titanite. After that, none of the rockets are launching, and idk what to do. EDIT: Ok, now sometimes they blast off, sometimes they don't and I have to do it manually. What??
The way I automated the trade platforms in this video wasn't very good. I made a separate video on how that works: th-cam.com/video/a9yjK2GZEog/w-d-xo.html
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Oh, ok! Thank you so much. I'll take a look at the video right away. Also, with enough time having passed with me checking my automations in place, my rockets' launches seem to happen whenever they want. They either launch right away the moment a single scrap is placed onto them (usually my Organic and Graphite lines), they eventually launch after a few minutes once the rocket is full, or they never launch for several minutes and I end up having to launch them myself. Then for some reason, my Graphite line is giving me the most headaches. The two auto-arms either don't seem to notice that there's graphite within their reach so they can pick them up, or they're just not in sync. I usually have to turn the auto-arms off and on again to get them to work whenever it does that. Not sure why any of this stuff happens, but hopefully this separate video helps with that. Thank you again.
I don’t remember exactly, but it’s well over 100 u/s. This sounds like a ton, but if you run it on less really slow while afk until it gives you a bit of Nanocarbon, you can just turn that into RTGs right after.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Some reason power doesn't move through the switches even though I supply them power. Is this because there is not enough power?
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer I think around 8:20? I wonder if instead of timing the trade platforms to a set delay you could connect the storage sensor to a count repeater to activate after X of scrap is picked. That would tie the rocket to the amount of scrap put on it instead of needing timings.
I completely forgot about this pun comment, but returning to this video after beginning to play Astroneer and seeing this comment made me chuckle after almost 9 months! 😂
"dirt cheap" proceeds to make a chart saying it takes 200 resource to make and 30 different types of resources aswell as you have to terraform the planet to get as much rtgs and large canisters than you will ever need
It's twice as cheap to get both of those through scrap conversion. The only thing that would be cheaper to get from the centrifuge is the organic for the carbon, but it's not worth saving only half a canister per nano to most people since that would require you to add a lot of annoying automation of allocating soil from the original centrifuge to a different centrifuge at the start.
I'm not clear on the benefit of trading for organic as opposed to spinning it up in a separate soil centrifuge? Maybe someone can check my math, but: 1 Small Canister of Soil spins into 4 Resins 4 Resins prints into 4 Small Canisters 4 Small Canisters shred into 1 Scrap 1 Scrap trades into 2 Organics. But... 1 Small Canister of Soil spins into 4 Organics. So, twice as many Organics as trading.
It's more soil efficient, yes, but the automation of that would be highly annoying and you would only save 0.25 canisters per nanocarbon alloy, so it isn't worth it.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Fair enough. I do spin up organics in my own version of the H.Ar.D. factory ([H]elium, [Ar]gon, [D]irt), but you're right, it was a bit of hassle to set up - and with all the buffer tables I had to set up, your version is definitely cleaner & more elegant than mine.

Watching this update in march and now I don’t need to do all this splitting since the tapper was released
If just build it Like in the vid took me like 3hours
For me the only hard parts is the gasses with the semi auto scrap thing :/
Quick question before i build it as well. 16:47 how did you hide a storage platform? What platform is it? And how to make sure the autoarm will not put any iron in the atmospheric condenser?
I hid it by dropping it there without locking it. It’s a medium platform A. The iron cannot be placed in the condenser.
Man thank u sooo much cuz I am lacking a TON of power and other high end stuff so I NEED nanocarbon alloy.
I like your design but i think it would be more efficient if you got your organic fron tappers and amonium and graphite from the centrifuge directly
If its connected then distance wont matter in the case of power, just the amount available
my brain after the words dirt cheap
D4C dirty deeds done dirt cheap
By the way you can automate astronium and buy hydrazine. So technically, no need to produce it.
Would it be better to use a portable smelter?
Idk.
could you give a list of all the resorses needed to make this?
I might tomorrow if I remember.
you should try one of these again in a newer update, i think the new stuff such as the tapper would help alot
That’s gonna be useful in the new DLC coming soon
trade platforms with extra storage. monitor the storage full , not full this will cause a build up but requires not timing and auto arms filter from there.
How do you get storage sensors to have multiple target pins
Mine only has one
You press F to place a sort of junction, then you press F on said junction to get more pins out of it. (Hope I am remembering this correctly, I’m not at my computer right now)
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer thanks for replying but I rewatched the video and figured it out, I made the farm and although it took me hours it works great also pls make more vids ur like the only astroneer TH-camr I watch
I never got far enough into Astroneer to start on automation. I really should fix that.
It's certainly a fun aspect of the game. Farms of this magnitude aren't incredibly useful aside from exo events, but hopefully in the future automation will be a necessity in order to progress into the super late game effectively.
I am looking forward to building it, but how much u/s does it require? Like for it to work on medium speed
Medium speed, I would try 40 u/s. However, it's really slow at max speed.
17:21 and as I previously mentio-🤠
Instead of using the smelting furnace can we use portable ones
Yes.
You could replace the organic one with a tapper
I did something like this using astronium and Kuya Game's tutorial
Edit: You use the astronium to automaticaly buy solid fuel jump jets and then shred those to make even more scrap
Yeah, I also made a video on Astronium to scrap. I never automated it, though. I may revisit the topic in a later video.
Feels like making this is faster then making 1 nanocarbon alloy 😅
I found out that you just need 1 solar array to make it all work but it will only run very slowly
It’s pretty slow at max speed which requires 100+ u/s. I wouldn’t recommend not going max speed.
What do you need Nanocarbon alloy for?
Only the most expensive stuff, unfortunately for us all.
RTG, large recourse canister, and the portable oxygen
@@Flyingpotato-hg6wg thanks
Any auto arm connected to the storage and delay repeaters don’t turn back on once the platforms get full any ideas what I’m doing wrong?
Are your storage sensors set to the “full or empty” mode?
I spent 8 hours building and it is worth it
I haven't even built this yet in survival. I bet it's really nice. I just threw it together on creative so I could test it.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Today i tried it but those trade platforms stopped working
Can you help me with trade platforms because they don't work
For me on the auto arm the storage sensor doesn’t work when I try to do it just doesn’t wait for it to be full to take do you have any solutions?
You have to set it to full or empty and it has to be placed on the platform.
Would it be possible to use astronium than soil for this farm?
You should get jump jets with your astronium instead. It scraps for more.
Hey one question could i replace smelting furnace with the portable one for faster production?
It wouldn’t be much faster since the other resources and the scraping part are what really slow the whole system down. You can though.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer okay thanks for help im kinda new to automatizating so
You’re welcome. :D
You don't need the splitting logic. A system like this is self-balancing, because each path can only hold so much material before getting clogged.
Yes, I've noticed a ton of issues with this design. It simply sucks. I am going to redo it eventually. Maybe even soon.
Technically, if you use inter planetery trains, its dirt cheap dirt cheap
Couldn't you use counters to activate the trade platforms?
Yes. That’s better. I did that in a previous video then forgot how to be smart when I made this one.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer that's such a mooooood
wait so do i put a power switch on all assembly lines?
Yes. It allows the trade platforms to be prevented from taking off in case anything gets ahead for whatever reason.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Thanks, I've had some problems with the entire setup but I'm gonna try see if I can fix it and ill come back if I cant
Auto arm keeps scooping my small printer, no matter what I do. I've tried moving it out of range, tried moving it too close, tried literally everything. It intends to just ruin the entire setup for no reason. It's hella irritating, because even outside of its range, it does it anyway.
You have to filter the auto arm by putting the item you want it to pick up in its slot.
Great video!!!! Thanks for this! Love you videos!!!
Hey WCJ! I really need you to see this comment! I invented a way to automatically send the trade platform's rocket to space only when it is full, without the use of timers. My contraption is thus more reliable. You need:
1 L platform B
1 medium storage
9 compound
1 trade platform (obviously)
1 storage detector
1 count repeater
1 button repeater
Now, you place ur platform down, and place the trade platform on it. Now read CAREFULY:
- if ur trade platform is full with scrap, and you have one scrap in the medium storage's " socket important" , use the button repeater to send FOUR signals to the count repeater.
Thank you. I'm pretty sure that's what I did for my dirt cheap hydrazine video. I don't know why I decided to switch to a worse version of this. XD
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Yes exactly I just checked that video and you made a very similar design.
Nice! I knew you could use scrap, but I didn’t think it was viable. I thought you needed a ton of canisters for 1 scrap
Don't forget about the infinite dirt glitch.
NAnoe Carbawn alooy
I'm sorry, it just caught me so off guard...
I made a separate video on how that works:
th-cam.com/video/a9yjK2GZEog/w-d-xo.html
How much power does this need? You need nanocarbon alloy to get all the rtgs, and one for the storage.
I don’t remember exactly, but it’s well over 100 u/s. This sounds like a ton, but if you run it on less really slow while afk until it gives you a bit of Nanocarbon, you can just turn that into RTGs right after.
can someone make a video with the whole layout on screen?
Instead of just using dirt, set up multiple auto extractors on a large resin deposit, and just do that so its more efficient
If you’d rather use auto extractors, resin isn’t nearly as good as astronium. I’ll be covering that in the future probably.
I just like soil.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer lol🤣
Why not just get the organic from a tapper?
It didn't exist yet.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer I see that now. Its good that the game is getting significant updates still. Might be time for an updated video.
@@dndhatcher99 I just might need to make one. There are other improvements I could have made with this design anyways.
How do I keep the auto arm from grabbing the printer?
Put whatever you want it to grab on it.
It has a filter slot where it will only pick up what is on that slot.
Thank you soooo much! You are a life saver!
i dont even wanna know how much time it takes to invent a farm like that...
Only a few hours with a little extra elbow grease to make it a bit more efficient.
atrox has 3 of the gasses, so it would be better to build on atrox if you know power setup
Yes.
The splitting of the scrap to the trade platforms did not work for me
Have not found a solution yet
Do you know what part seems to be not working?
Its okay i fixed it
Could be even cheaper if you used a tapper for organic instead of trading for scrap
why trade scrap for organic when you can get it from soil?
Because that’s not as fast as putting soil in and having everything craft automatically.
How many power switches will I need for the arms before the trade platform? You only shown 1 in the video.
One for each trade platform.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Thanks man!
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Some reason power doesn't move through the switches even though I supply them power. Is this because there is not enough power?
I might not have been in the previous astroneer versions, but why use a delay repeater instead of a count one?
I'm not sure at which part you mean. I don't remember this build to well, lol.
So, the Argon and the Helium are on the same platform, but they're not "steel-ing" from each other because of the auto arm filters.
Correct
I completely forgot about this pun comment, but returning to this video after beginning to play Astroneer and seeing this comment made me chuckle after almost 9 months! 😂
"dirt cheap" proceeds to make a chart saying it takes 200 resource to make and 30 different types of resources aswell as you have to terraform the planet to get as much rtgs and large canisters than you will ever need
It was a trap.
Dude… you can turn soil directly into ammonia and graphite. Two more soil centrifuges would be way cheaper than two trade platforms.
We wanted to see it in action!!
It’s a rather long process from start to finish, but you’re right. I just wasn’t thinking near the end.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer I don't blame you. You must have been fried after trying to explain it lol
Indeed. XD
Dirt then resin then scrap then auggg I can’t keep up 😂
Wait, we don't get to see it in action?? :D After all that effort...
Great video though, really helpful, thanks!
Yeah, I was told this by another as well. Somehow it just didn’t cross my mind.
I'm not clear on the benefit of trading for organic as opposed to spinning it up in a separate soil centrifuge?
Maybe someone can check my math, but:
1 Small Canister of Soil spins into 4 Resins
4 Resins prints into 4 Small Canisters
4 Small Canisters shred into 1 Scrap
1 Scrap trades into 2 Organics.
I do spin up organics in my own version of the H.Ar.D. factory ([H]elium, [Ar]gon, [D]irt), but you're right, it was a bit of hassle to set up - and with all the buffer tables I had to set up, your version is definitely cleaner & more elegant than mine.
actually gas still cost hydrozeen but that is already 'dirt' cheap.
