The BEST Experience in Vietnam!

  • The best thing to do in Vietnam and a highlight of our one month trip travelling this beautiful country was the Ha Giang Loop in Northern Vietnam. The Ha Giang loop is one of the best road trips in South East Asia. It’s a 350km motorbike loop in North Vietnam bordering China with incredible views.
We typically like to rent a motorbike and explore on our own, but we decided instead to book an easy rider tour for the Ha Giang loop to support the local community, for the social experience to meet new people and for Daniel to relax and enjoy the views on these challenging roads.
We booked a 3 day easy rider tour with Cheers Hostel and already on Day 1 we were blown away. We passed by stunning rice terraces and saw incredible views. We had a delicious lunch at a homestay in Yen Minh Town which was a family style feast. We drove through the stunning Chin Khoanh Pass and also visited Hmong King’s Palace. Our accommodation was in Dong Van, a charming town. On the first night of the tour we had another delicious family feast and some karaoke before bed. It was an incredible day with amazing views and making new friends.

Note: Most tourists pronounce Ha Giang incorrectly, including us in this video (we are so sorry about that). It was not until later that we learned the proper pronunciation is not how it’s written but instead “Ha Zhung”.

You guys got some great drone/aerial footage of the area. It really is majestic and beautiful there, no? How does it compare to the Canadian mountains, though? I mean, you guys come from a country full of beautiful natural beauty, too.

Hi! I'm planning on doing the tour at the end of November this year. Would you recommend choosing cheers hostel for this tour now that you're done?

Hello! In Ninh Binh we stayed at Tam Coc Mountain Lake Homestay and had a great experience! The family owning it is super friendly and helpful. We booked a private transfer through Cheers Hostel from Hanoi to Ninh Binh. The 3 day Ha Giang loop we did was also through Cheers Hostel which includes transportation round trip from Hanoi. The link to the Ha Giang tour is in the video description. It was one of our highlights of our trip in Vietnam!

I recently watched a video from notizenvonunterwegs about this trip. The couple of this channel was disappointed on this trip (crowds of tourists etc).

That’s interesting. I wonder if they got unlucky with timing? When we got stopped at a construction site traffic would accumulate and we saw quite a few tourists but throughout the day on the roads and in villages where we slept we didn’t feel like it was overcrowded at all. Some of the more popular stops we saw more people than usual but not to the point where it was challenging to get a photo or enjoy the views. Everyone that did the tour with us and people we met along the way all loved their experience and said it was a highlight of their Vietnam trip. We personally loved it and had an amazing experience.

@@Roadmap2Adventures All the people I've seen do it say it's the best experience in Vietnam (some say it's the best experience of their life). Some of the people rode themselves or did private easy riders ("Adventures of A+K" booked a private easy rider). I would think older couples would be better off doing the open jeep tour or private easy riders as the younger crowd tend to do the large group easy rider tours.

Next time rent your own bike and ride the loop youself.

Technically, Canadians, Americans, and Australians cannot legally ride there due to the fact the 1968 Vienna Convention wasn't signed. That doesn't stop them from doing it, but many think they are in the right when pulled over by the cops and make uninformed videos about the situation. Also, keep in mind, for countries that signed, they also need to be licensed for riding a motorcycle in their home country as a normal IDP won't cut it.
