  • So you had a stroke and you really want to recover from it but you only have a cane as your equipment. Can you still do therapy? Yes you can. In this video I am going to teach you effective exercises for stroke using a cane.
Whether your arm is flaccid with spastic after stroke, therapy is very important to be started immediately to regain your arm function. Even with just a cane aas your only exercise equipment, you can do your therapy for your stroke effectively at home.
First, We need to secure your hand to the cane. To secure your hand using a T-shirt, put your affected arm through the shirt going to the neck hole. Then gather the remaining fabric and secure your hand on the cane by wrapping it around.
Now that we have secured our hand to the cane we can do the exercises.
First exercise is scapular protraction and retraction. All you need to do is to keep your affected arms straight and then pull that arm back trying to move your shoulder blade towards your spine. You can guide your shoulder blade with your good hand by pushing it backwards coming under your armpit.
Second exercise is gear shifting.First side to side 10 times, then side to side 10x and then lastly in circles 10 times.
Third exercise is biceps curls. In this exercise, you will just bend your elbows with hands towards your shoulders, then back to your lap 10x.
Fourth exercise is chest press. You just push the cane forward and then bring it all the way back towards your chest. Do this 10 times.
Fifth exercise yes shoulder press. First position is to bring the cane close to your chin the.n push it up overhead. Do this 10 times. But if this exercise is painful for you, skip this exercise.
Sixth exercise is shoulder internal and external rotation. In this exercise you will need to Secure your affected arm To your body with a belt. This will prevent the arm from moving but letting the elbow bend and forearm move side to side. In this exercise, you will push and pull the cane to move the forearm side to side. Make sure that you don’t push too far out as that will injure the shoulder.
