I've had the old 3DS for a while and modded switches were hard to find, so since the 2DS XL was only around $35-40 I picked it up so I could try out PS1 games on it and other things newer 3DSes could do compared to the old one :P
I came to the party really late but the 3DS was what got me into gaming as a whole. I love Pokémon (I only had an original GBA, GB, and a family Wii that I never really bought games for) and became excited when, in the new games, you could pet them! I saved to buy a pre owned blue 3DS and pre ordered Pokémon X. I don’t have it anymore, but I handed it down to my little not-sibling when I got an XL. That little system got me through a lot and I’m glad I got it in the end.
agreed, a lot of my favourite childhood games were on the wii (super mario galaxy, kirby epic yarn, super paper mario, etc), but the 3ds was what made me into the gamer i am today. fire emblem was my series of choice on it, i never played fire emblem before the 3ds but awakening had me hooked. i loved a lot of the mario games for the console, and i cant forget about the majoras mask rerelease (that felt like a cultural reset for me), but like… i still play fire emblem almost daily. i went to best buy and bought myself the galaxy 3ds with my own money at age 15 so i could play more fire emblem, i still talk about optimal pairings and such with my friends for our next playthroughs. had it not been for the 3ds, i might never have become an actual gamer.
I feel like one of the big reasons the 3DS is getting so expensive is because of how fantastic the homebrew scene on it is. The console is a homebrew powerhouse and theres so much cool custom firmware you can drop onto it.
I think it is more of the desperation gloom and doom about the eshop closure than anything else, like how many PS3 games were getting expensive when the PSN closure was announced. Even though the original 3DS had a terrible repairability design, it didnt past that much time for many of them to break so it becomes difficult to see models in good condition.
My first new system ever (I had a second hand Wii) was a New Nintendo 3DS XL and it came with LEGO The Hobbit. I’ve been obsessed with collecting LEGO games ever since
I'd say the thing that makes the New 2DS XL better than most previous 3DS models was the flap; not only did the SD Card slot have a cover again - like with the original 3DS model - that you can just open without having to unscrew the back of the system, but the game cartridge slot has an actual dust cover now!
Not sure if this has been mentioned but props to Scott for unorganizing his collection to make a more interesting background it’s a detail that I really appreciate!
I remember trading in my DSi and my sister’s DS Lite at GameStop for the 3DS when it first came out. To this day I haven’t told her and she never realized. UPDATE: Damn, 1K likes?! Sheesh. We were kids 😂 I confessed to her and she said she thought she lost it when we moved, she had no idea. I owe her one Switch game of her choosing and we’re even. It’s not that serious 😂
I know Scott is great at acting, but man, the tonal difference between his unhinged Scott the Woz character and his calm tone when he’s not acting is astounding.
It's so cool to see Scott loves the New 3DS that had Mario 3D Land installed as well. That's the one I upgraded to as after years of owning a regular 3DS XL. It feels so good in your hands after owning the XL, especially since the New 3DS is a tiny bit larger than the regular 3DS and of course smaller than the XL models. It's a weird middle ground that's super nice to have.
I remember being super annoyed about the normal new 3ds not releasing in the US, I never liked the xl systems, and I tended to prefer not getting special editions most of the time, but I eventually managed to get the black Mario new 3ds which was subtle enough of a special edition that it felt like a normal system and I love it a lot
xl systems make the 3ds systems playable. The screen is nearly 2 times bigger. The original 3ds literally hurts to hold. The new 3ds don’t have enough features to warrant a bigger price. 3ds XL is the best 3ds.
I recently got the black Mario New 3DS in December and have been loving it. The design is incredibly cool and the library of games that can be played on it is immense!
The OG DS is nostalgic for me because it was before the explosion of cellphones as we know them today, but was a step-up from the GBA. Being that computer in your pocket wasn't the norm so it was awesome to play handheld games with more interaction (touch-screen and graphics). Fun times. I have a few 3DS variations just because they are fun and a few years back they were cheaper to buy used! Fun to see the surprises of digital games you'd see from someone else's used handhelds. My first entry was the doorstop style 2DS as I didn't think I'd use it much, then I graduated to the 2DSXL and then the 3DSXL and OG. I did buy the New 3DS Super Mario Black on a Black Friday special with the intention of not playing it because it looks so cool. It was just a fun time in gaming!
I love how being only a year older than Scott makes my experience so similar to his. In my case I didn't try to get an ambassador console, but I have to admit I was a little bit envious. In my case I had in the store the Zelda OoT edition in one hand and the Aqua blue in the other, and I went home with the last and a copy of street fighter IV. During a some weeks maybe a month that and my DS collection were the only games I play on the 3ds and boy, SFIV is a good game to impress a 15 year old. My second game was Star Fox 64, those two game are really good looking first year 3ds games.
Yeah I feel like they get damaged easily. I remember owning the very first original blue model and something happened to the screen and now I think my new 3ds xl's battery is going bad
I got the red one and one day the screens just turned blue and it stopped working :( I got a new 3ds xl as a replacement, but it was black and not the same
This was the first new system I bought completely with my own earned working money. I had actually planned to save up longer to buy the system when it was $250 but then they slashed the price to $170 and I had already had enough saved up at that amount. I also remember the price cut happened around my birthday so it made for a great experience that year, I was able to use the extra money saved up to get an extra game. I was able to pick up Ocarina of Time 3D and Pokemon White instead of having to choose. And now, I have 4 different 3DS systems, oops. I didn't really mean to, I just ended up with them basically. Original black 3DS, black New 3DS XL, a transparent red 2DS and the Pokeball New 2DS XL. The New 2DS XL is probably my favorite of the iteration, so Scott's complaints are weird. The top screen isn't very heavy so it's a much more comfortable console for long play sessions.
Really cool to have a Scott's Stash video that's not the carpet cam. With all the editing, these are starting to feel more and more like main channel videos.
The Link Between Worlds 3DS XL is really nice looking, but my favorite design still goes to the Pokemon Center Japan exclusive gold and black 3DS XL they made for Pokemon X and Y. That thing is absolutely gorgeous, a borderline work of art as far as limited edition consles go.
Hey Scott, I’m a huge fan of this channel for the more laid back vibe! I think it would be super cool to see you go through your individual game collections by console and talk about some of your favorites or stories behind the games you have
To this day I wish I never got rid of my purple 3DS. I have a New 3DS now but man that beautiful color combined with all the memories I have of it, it's all just so nostalgic to think about.
Same here, that 3DS turned purple into my favorite color. I have a Hyrule New 3DS XL with dual IPS screens now, but I still really regret selling that midnight purple 3DS.
The Pokemon XY 3DS XLs are absolutely gorgeous IMO, I get why Scott doesn't have them but as a proud owner of both they're my go-to 3DSs along with the blue New 2DS XL
I remember being really excited when the 3DS came out, but I didn’t get one for several years. When I finally got it I splurged on so many eShop games, and I still love the system to this day. Such a fun period to revisit!
Here's a fun story: I had a Nintendo 3DS system that was registered underneath the Nintendo Ambassador Program, but I gave it to two of my friends who are siblings as a birthday gift for the younger one. At the time, I didn't know what the Nintendo Ambassador Program was; I just came across Kirby's Dream Land 2 on the Nintendo 3DS eShop one day and said, "Oh, wow! A free game!"
Also got the Black 3DS, day 1 I think, and yes I got the Ambassador Program, which I've since moved to my 3DS XL, which actually makes it pretty awesome !! I had to call Nintendo to make the swap, and had to own both systems at the same time, but Ambassador on the XL screen is fantastic !
How the 3DS Ambassador Program worked was that you had to log into the 3DS eShop at least once before the official date of the price cut, which is why you could still be eligible for the 20 free games if you bought a new system at $170 before Nintendo themselves dropped the price.
2010-2013 was my peak gaming era. I have so many fond memories reading gaming magazines, getting rewards in the mail from Club Nintendo, grinding for trophies on PS3 and playing my first online games. Plus I had way less stress and more time since I was around 11-14 years old at the time. No job, can’t drive anywhere yet and sports weren’t taking up as much time as they later did. So much free time to game
Love the "new" 3ds XL, with a 3rd party grip is the way to go. Got mine from GS, refurb Galaxy when they had a sale for $99. Didn't think they'd get SO expensive now.....but they are a supreme experience with the eye tracking....so much better then the passive 3D
I regret not upgrading to a "New" 3DS XL back when you could find them that cheap. I also did not expect them to be so pricey now, even for the standard ones!
The Link Between Worlds 3DS XL was a birthday gift from my brother and I was so happy to get it! It fits so well with the game it came with and I enjoyed playing the then newest Zelda on it, along with Bravely Default and Tomodachi Life. Unfortunately, I ended up battering it up far too often and it got to the point, where it had some issues staying on, or even turning on, because the spine in the clamshell kinda got ruptured. I eventually had to get the Galaxy edition New 3DS... and that would eventually get accidentally thrashed to the point where the B button on it wouldn't work properly... resulting in me getting the Pikachu edition New 3DS... and it's been my current 3DS as of this writing... I'd like to get the SNES themed New 3DS, along with an import New 3DS with the faceplate crap... but... considering the eShop dilemma... yeah...
I feel like the Hylian Shield 2ds and Pokeball ones are absolutely awesome, compared to the normal versions of it and feel like those would change your mind about the console, at least from the outside point of view on it.
I have the Pokéball one and I absolutely love it! I like being able to actually press the button inward, since it’s not just a static piece of the design. I think the console itself isn’t super comfortable to hold, so I got a grip you clip the whole bottom part into that looks and feels like a home console controller. 100% recommended
Dude I feel so bad because I had that exact 3DS and lost it. But that’s not even the worst one I’ve lost. I had the golden majora’s mask 3DS and when me and dad had to go home to watch our dog I left the 3DS at the hotel and my mom and sister lost it. So I hope whoever has that Majora’s Mask 3DS enjoys it
I have super fond memories of the 3DS XL. I remember the Christmas prior to its release getting a Mario 25th anniversary DS I XL and then being in that awkward spot where everybody was getting a 3DS except me. I ended up scrounging together enough birthday money and asking my dad very nicely. We got it but I didn’t have any games for it until one day. My dad picked me up Mario kart seven from a pawn shop. I had so much fun just playing original DS games on the console lol
I’m not sure if anyone noticed, but a bunch of refurbished New Galaxy Edition 3DS XLs are on sale for pretty cheap! I bought one since I only got the 2DS
I have the Link Between Worlds 3DS! I had no clue what it was, I got a used 3DS from GameStop for my 11th birthday and it was open in the display case. I thought it was just a cool gold 3DS, it was really cool to see it was Zelda related!
In England there was a couple of days window where the original 3DS was reduced in price and you could still get the ambassador games. With a couple of money of vouchers and cashback I manages to get my wife (then girlfriend) and I a 3DS each, combined for less than it cost at launch, and all those retro titles. Second best ever handheld family after the Vita, and still regularly use it today. Personal favourite is the standard n3DS, which has a bigger screen than thw orihinal but better image quality than the XL, thanks to better pixel density, plus black with the Snes buttons and the Majora's Mask plates is just gorgeous. I actually really hope the Switch 2's inevitable Lite redesign goes back to the clamshell, even if they don't bring back the dual screens. So much better for portability.
I saved up and bought a black DSi. Then when the 3DS got the price cut, I saved up and got the flame red 3DS. I think that was the first time in my life I'd experienced a decent hardware upgrade. Was it a powerful system? No. But man it was much more impressive than DS games. I then saved up for a PSP after that, but the 3DS will always have a special place in my heart.
I’m now collecting the last 3ds games I want and am getting some backup 3ds systems since my original one isn’t in great condition. Man the nostalgia for this system is real. I missed out on so many of the good games, so I’m hyped to go back and play them all now
Your 3DS videos inspired me to pick my old one up again. Man I forgot how good the 3D can look, it’s too bad that they didn’t keep developing the technology
I started collecting Nintendo handhelds in 2019. It became a really addictive and satisfying journey, and as of right now I have one of every Nintendo handheld variation, from the Silver Series Game & Watch to the Switch Lite. ...I'm only missing the original New 3DS because it's impossible to find one under $250, which is absolutely silly to me. And that's for loose, scratched up, borderline broken ones. And frankly, it's too hard to justify shelling out that kind of money when I have _five_ other variations of basically the same system. When it's easier and cheaper to buy a Game Boy Light in pristine condition than to buy a decent US version of a New 3DS...yeah, the market is twisted right now.
I totally get being nostalgic for 2012 & 13. I mean for me that’s roughly half my life ago. The 3ds is my favorite console of all time, the library is just so perfect.
I like to think I have a decent collection myself: Majora, Black Mario and Luigi, and I recently gave my sister the SNES version since I couldn't justify having 3 of the same system. And don't worry, I made sure my sister knows how valuable and rare that thing is now nowadays!
For me, my all-time favorire special edition 3ds was the new 3ds xl hyrule edition. There was also the majora's mask one, but the big hylian crest on the face just looked so damn good, and you got the extra features of the new 3ds. I wish i had bought it a couple years ago when you could get it for cheap. they're going for 300 dollars now without a box which is just insane
What an incredible collection to have and to be so passive aggressively disappointed in lol seems like you say “I don’t really like this one” or equivalent for each one.
I always find it fascinating when people describe the XL models as better. Even as someone with big hands I find that the regular sizes are a lot more comfortable to hold. My friend has the 3DS XL and it overall feels too stretched out imo. The buttons are awkwardly placed in comparison to the normal one, and the low resolution of the screen becomes WAY more noticeable. Always surprising to hear it.
Considering this console make me fall in love with video games again it is extraordinary...remember clearly getting the Luigi 30th, with Pokémon Y, Ocarina and 3D Land...and wow experiencing Ocarina for the first time, then continue into the Zelda rabbit hole and tracking the Albw console...after that I got an n64 and start collecting the rest is history
You can really tell how much love Scott has for video games when talking about them! Glad to see other people enjoy video games as much as I do! I’m happy video games can bring so many people so much joy and just make people’s lives just a little bit better! I know after a long day at work or if I’m having a crappy day nothing can quite make it better like just going home and playing a good game! Don’t ever change Scott you are the best, you are in inspiration for me!
Around October 2021 the aqua blue 3DS and Kingdom Hearts 3D were the last gifts my grandfather gave me before he passed away, it's still by far my favorite portable console to this day.
I hated being online between 2011 and 2013 because I couldn't afford any of the cool new things happening. I didn't get allowances or any way to make money at that time. My dad would get so pissed at me just for asking for a new game system for Christmas after he would ask me what I want. I didn't get a dsi until 2014 when a friend gave me one and didn't get a 3ds until 2016 when my mom finally got me one for Christmas. Then I turned 18 in 2018 and finally got my driver's license on my own and was able to get a job. Now I got a modded new 3ds xl I could have only dreamed of in 2011-2013
Sad I don’t own one, but I have a Mugen battery for my SNES n3DSXL and picked up the galaxy n3DSXL at ToysRus for $90 when they were going out of business, so I got that going for me so that’s nice
Having never owned a 3ds, when Scott revealed that the back of the Zelda 3ds had the lorule triforce, I said out loud "that's so cool!" and then had a moment of introspection because I think I might be a dork
Scott looks like he woke up from a nightmare that a serial killer broke into his home and said you either die or wake up and make an hour long video about your 3DS collection he chose both
Simple 3ds games don't feel great to emulate the 2 screens are not easy to emulate so the best way to play 3ds games is still to play it on official hardware

The D's was my childhood, the 3ds felt like a downgrade, there were both 2d and 3d games.
agreed, a lot of my favourite childhood games were on the wii (super mario galaxy, kirby epic yarn, super paper mario, etc), but the 3ds was what made me into the gamer i am today. fire emblem was my series of choice on it, i never played fire emblem before the 3ds but awakening had me hooked. i loved a lot of the mario games for the console, and i cant forget about the majoras mask rerelease (that felt like a cultural reset for me), but like… i still play fire emblem almost daily. i went to best buy and bought myself the galaxy 3ds with my own money at age 15 so i could play more fire emblem, i still talk about optimal pairings and such with my friends for our next playthroughs. had it not been for the 3ds, i might never have become an actual gamer.
I feel like one of the big reasons the 3DS is getting so expensive is because of how fantastic the homebrew scene on it is. The console is a homebrew powerhouse and theres so much cool custom firmware you can drop onto it.
I know right? And it's so easy to hack too, such low effort for big reward
How so
True. A 256 GB microSD can hold more than 200 3DS games easily.
I got my black n3dsxl in 2020 for 150
My first new system ever (I had a second hand Wii) was a New Nintendo 3DS XL and it came with LEGO The Hobbit. I’ve been obsessed with collecting LEGO games ever since
LEGO games are fun as all hell!
I just subscribed becuase you collect LEGO games and as a fellow LEGO game collected I respect you
I'd say the thing that makes the New 2DS XL better than most previous 3DS models was the flap; not only did the SD Card slot have a cover again - like with the original 3DS model - that you can just open without having to unscrew the back of the system, but the game cartridge slot has an actual dust cover now!
Sometimes I wonder about the equivalency in Nintendo stock that Scott owns in just raw Nintendo products
Right now one share in Nintendo is less expensive than most games ($52.48), so a LOT
@@Serenity.Solstice that low
@@mrblack576stock price has nothing to do with the value of the company
Not sure if this has been mentioned but props to Scott for unorganizing his collection to make a more interesting background it’s a detail that I really appreciate!
I remember trading in my DSi and my sister’s DS Lite at GameStop for the 3DS when it first came out. To this day I haven’t told her and she never realized.
UPDATE: Damn, 1K likes?! Sheesh. We were kids 😂 I confessed to her and she said she thought she lost it when we moved, she had no idea. I owe her one Switch game of her choosing and we’re even. It’s not that serious 😂
That's just evil
Damn hope she dosent find out.

So basically I just got to chill with Scott and talk about Nintendo stuff for an hour. Feels like being back in high school with a friend.
Scott on camera showing off his collection rather than his rug, now that’s a rarity.
The purple for the original models was great (not biased in any way). Sadly mine is broken though.
Yeah I feel like they get damaged easily. I remember owning the very first original blue model and something happened to the screen and now I think my new 3ds xl's battery is going bad
That was the first 3DS I got. It came with Mario Tennis Open.
try repairing! hard but fun project. something like 100 to invest into it
I got the red one and one day the screens just turned blue and it stopped working :(
I got a new 3ds xl as a replacement, but it was black and not the same
Streetpass back in the day was GOD TIER. So much fun

I never knew Scott had a second channel that he's out of character. Such refreshing to see
Really cool to have a Scott's Stash video that's not the carpet cam.
What about the Hylian Shield one? Best design for the system.
I wholeheartedly agree with you about the flame red 3ds being one of the most beautiful ones. I had one myself
Hey Scott, I’m a huge fan of this channel for the more laid back vibe! I think it would be super cool to see you go through your individual game collections by console and talk about some of your favorites or stories behind the games you have
"It feels really dumb to say I'm nostalgic for something in 2011"
Bro, 2011 was more then 10 years ago 💀
To this day I wish I never got rid of my purple 3DS. I have a New 3DS now but man that beautiful color combined with all the memories I have of it, it's all just so nostalgic to think about.
Same here, that 3DS turned purple into my favorite color. I have a Hyrule New 3DS XL with dual IPS screens now, but I still really regret selling that midnight purple 3DS.
i'v never owned any 3ds, and it haunts me to this day. the ocarina of time 3ds is one of my favorite handheld designs ever.
Than buy one its fun
The Pokemon XY 3DS XLs are absolutely gorgeous IMO, I get why Scott doesn't have them but as a proud owner of both they're my go-to 3DSs along with the blue New 2DS XL
I remember being really excited when the 3DS came out, but I didn’t get one for several years. When I finally got it I splurged on so many eShop games, and I still love the system to this day. Such a fun period to revisit!
These videos are some of my favorite you’ve ever uploaded. It’s just fun to see you talk about your collections
Crazy to think that the original 3DS came out in 2011. I remember being absolutely glued to it whenever I played it.
Wow that was so long ago, I thought it came out in 2012 or 2013 since that's when I played it.
There's a weird but very happy feeling just watching Scott go on
The flame red one was my first 3DS, it's such a beautiful system. The nostalgia hits me...
The 3DS LL Aqua Blue model has been with me since it came out, its an amazing little system ive poured thousands of hours into. Love it to bits
Further evidence that Scott is what's keeping nintendo in business
I'll never get tired of Scott slapping stuff when displaying them.
Scott is the main reason for nintendo success in 2015-2016
How the 3DS Ambassador Program worked was that you had to log into the 3DS eShop at least once before the official date of the price cut, which is why you could still be eligible for the 20 free games if you bought a new system at $170 before Nintendo themselves dropped the price.
2:15 Scott would’ve been the coolest kid on the playground with his “mature” 3DS
Scott being a Professor Layton fan is the best news of the century
You released this just in time.
I’m writing an essay on the DS/3DS family of systems, and was running out of stuff to say about the 3DS.
The smash 3DS xl is a gorgeous system, the greyscale art is silver and shiny, I love it
The Link Between Worlds 3DS XL was a birthday gift from my brother and I was so happy to get it! I'd like to get the SNES themed New 3DS, along with an import New 3DS with the faceplate crap... but... considering the eShop dilemma... yeah...
If you have a switch, you can connect NNIDs and put money on the switch and use the money on 3ds
So I hope whoever has that Majora’s Mask 3DS enjoys it
Scott’s just like “yes, I NEED Wario world framed”
I really like how this feels like we're just chilling with scott as a friend
Where did you buy it from?
@@logansouthworth7806From Brazil
Honestly the 3D didn't do much
The 3d wasn't that good, even some DS games looked better.
woah, isn’t that the yoshi guy?
I like to think I have a decent collection myself:
Majora, Black Mario and Luigi, and I recently gave my sister the SNES version since I couldn't justify having 3 of the same system.
And don't worry, I made sure my sister knows how valuable and rare that thing is now nowadays!
The New 3DS was my first nintendo console, back in 2016, and it brings me a lot of nostalgia.
HOW DID THIS MAN MAKE HIS 3DS COLLECTION INTO A HOUR LONG VIDEO
BY THE SHEER AMOUNT OF THE COLLECTION
Ah yes the 3ds addiction. I suffer from it too. My all time grail atm is the Samus edition. Such a beautiful edition. Awesome video!
I LOVED my OG DS. I had the blue variant and really wish I still had it. It paved the way for my love of gaming.
the 3DS model line, from beginning to end, has had some of the most beautiful designs for consumer handheld electronics
Red is the best color. Especially a red that is bright and bold.

I love the 3DS I have the Black Friday new 3DS with Mario carvings on it but my first one was a blue xl bundled with mk7
This guy's got the dream 3DS collection. I'm glad I was able to get the galaxy one for a good price.
You can really tell how much love Scott has for video games when talking about them! Glad to see other people enjoy video games as much as I do!
Now I got a modded new 3ds xl I could have only dreamed of in 2011-2013
Scott isn't a truly certified 3DS owner until he can say he owns a dual IPS system
Sad I don’t own one, but I have a Mugen battery for my SNES n3DSXL and picked up the galaxy n3DSXL at ToysRus for $90 when they were going out of business, so I got that going for me so that’s nice
@@Fhwgads11 Oh really, how much better is it from the standard battery? I’ve heard about replacement batteries that give more play time
@@TheMasonGamer at least more than double. It makes the 3DS way thicker though, which I find more comfortable, but it’s also heavier.

Only Scott could do a 51 minute video on a 3DS Console Collection :)
Having never owned a 3ds, when Scott revealed that the back of the Zelda 3ds had the lorule triforce, I said out loud "that's so cool!" and then had a moment of introspection because I think I might be a dork
This is my main 3ds, this is my 3DS to throw in the toilet, and this is my 3DS with a line
I love how Scott calls the Galaxy edition New 3DS XL “something a stoner would have” because I have this system and absolutely play it when I’m high
Scott looks like he woke up from a nightmare that a serial killer broke into his home and said you either die or wake up and make an hour long video about your 3DS collection
he chose both
Yeah I was gonna say he looks tired
You're not wrong
I love the new 3ds. I have the kyary pamyu pamyu collab covers. I snag it a couple months ago for cheap when no one was selling them
God why is the 3ds family so expensive now. I'd do just about anything for a New 3DS Model. These consoles aren't just games. They're sculptures.
Simple 3ds games don't feel great to emulate the 2 screens are not easy to emulate so the best way to play 3ds games is still to play it on official hardware
Same I want one even if I bought a dsi
