03:54 - they are using lydian b7 scale (escala nordestina "northeastern scale') . this scale is typical from traditional music from northeast states like Ceará, Pernanmbuco, Rio Grande do Norte, ; used in music styles like Forró and Baião, it is the 4th mode of melodic minor scale, they are using rythm patterns of this styles too , mixing the traditional music with metal.

Well saud. Its the moust brazilian metal at it gets in its musical experimentation. This albums is worth scholar research. Very rich album.

It’s a caravel journey relating with the discovery of Brazil by the portuguese... the ship is lost at sea and going around in the ocean. Some say that is also a metaphor about the band touring all around Brazil and traveling in a lousy bus. Amazing band!

According to Rafael (the composer and guitar player on the right side), this song was supposed to be called "River to the Sky" but, when they were on their way to make a photo session to promote this song, they almost had an accident with the bus, it almost fell on top of them as they tried to push the bus uphill. And the name on the bus was "Carolina 4".

I think the song that greatly showcases their versatility is Shadow Hunter. For something a bit more different for someone who is not a brazillian, I would go with Holy Land, where they blend metal with Baião, an iconic brazillian music from the northeast of the country. Lots of incredible musicians there and a region that is certainly one of Angra's major influences.
Angra is a fantastic band. Cheers from Brazil!

Angra had 3 main formations, this is the current one
That's why the drummer is not the same, but actually, from the original group, there is only Rafael (the guitarist). From the second formation, you should react to a song called Nova Era, there is Edu on vocals (he replaced Andre when he quit)

@@ThomFoolery1 I almost forgot, at some point you talk about them having "different songs", if you wanna see variety, I would highly recommend their newer stuff, specially "Late redemption" which is somewhat of a ballad featuring a great MPB artist, Milton Nascimento. Or songs from their latest albums wich have more of prog feel to them, "Magic Mirror", "Upper levels" and "Rage of the waters" are my favourites. Their bassist Felippe Andreoli also just released a solo album called Resonanse which is pure prog. I like the song "driven". If you don't feel like checking any of them in the channel I think you should still give this ones a listen in your free time, I think you'll enjoy them!!! Cheers from Brazil!!!

That song is about the journey of many European ships (Carolina IV was the name of one of the ships) trying to reach “The New World” (The Americas). It’s a parallel to Brazilian history when the Portuguese invaded, killed and robbed both the land and the indigenous people. The portuguese language lyric is an ode to the sea goddess “Iemanjá”. They sing the prayer in the beginning to represent that they are asking for the goddess permission to enter the sea and they also sing it at the end to represent that this sea entity Iemanjá claimed their lives, so at the end they didn’t reach the New World (Brazil in this particular case).

  • @gugasalomao

Man o man,so many Things to comment hahahahaah. The two hand tapping on bass was kindda introduced in Brazil by the first bassist of the band Luiz Mariuti ( who you saw on the video of Carry On ). The current bassist, Felipe Andreoli, is, in my opinion, one of the best bassist sim the wolrd right now. He is currently playing with Sons of Apollo as well. I love to see people discovering Angra and being amazed by that. Angra has a strong notion of using Brazilian sounds and rhythms together with the classic power metal ( to a point where, in Brazil, for a while, this genre was known as “melodic metal” ). Marcel Barbosa ( the guy in the white Ibañez ) just substituted Kiki Loureiro , who went to Megadeth ( and almost went to Guns and Roses before Slash came back ). You HAVE to listen to Holy Land next , it will BLOW YOUR MIND!! The whole album is about the discovery of Brazil ! Cheers mate !
