Nearly thirty-five years after first hitting the arcade scene, Darius continues to be one of the best and most-respected shoot 'em ups on the market. The newest installment is called DariusBurst: Another Chronicle EX+, and beyond being a mouthful, it's also a gorgeous 2D shooter that is packed with more modes and levels than you'll ever have time to play. It's also filled with stunning fish-themed bosses that take up most of the super-wide display. While a little repetitive, Another Chronicle EX+ is a must for both shoot 'em up junkies and longtime fans of the Darius franchise. Now, enough with the ports. Bring on a new Darius game.

Played this on the arcade today on a dual screen cabinet with surround sound and vibrations. It was awesome. Never heard of the game before today.

It used to be Robotech on the gameboy advance, an absolute gem of a game!!
But Caladrius Blaze (PS4 version) won me over and finally took Robotech off the pedestal. Though of cause it's still a very, very beloved game!
Caladrius Blaze (at least for me personally) is hard as nails, but the ability to custom layout your ship in special attacks really allows you to get the right ship for you - giving you a bit of hope to beat the game!
Parodius is really underrated, considering the sheer amount of depth, polish, and variety on display.
It's almost like it does to horizontal shmups what the Super Mario series did for side scrolling platformers. It throws so many new ideas into the mix, that it should have become the new gold standard.
Totally agree. Parodius needs a remake, it’s an absolute classic and introduced me to the crazy side of Japanese culture back when I was younger.

I put a few dozen hours into Dariusburst: Chronicle Saviours on PC and had a lot of fun mostly with the CS mode (which I really wish they'd put into this). I just find it to be a fantastic "pick up and put down" quick play that I keep coming back to.
I bought this on the Switch and played it both on the TV and in handheld mode lying on my bed. And I've been enjoying it.
I like how each of the ships have very different abilities, like the positionable "laser shield" of the Legend and Next, and the adjustable satellites of the Murakamo. The ships play very differently and allow for different strategies.
Something else that I think is crazy about Chronicle savior, you basically tackle the 3,000 stages in the arcade cabinet mode, as a worldwide online community. I believe that game came out 7 years ago, and none of the 64 cabinets are 100% unlocked. That's probably because a lot of the stages have a four-player requirement, and other stuff like that. I need to figure out how to get in touch with other players to play online multiplayer. If that's an option
I recently purchased the cozmic collection from strictly limited and thought this was a completely different game. Definitely tons of fun and the inclusion of the DLC is awesome especially when you wanna hear the ketsui or nightstriker OST
Thunder Force is the best shooter series I like 3, 4 and 5 specifically 2 and 6 are ok and I've never played the first one .
My favorite is Total Eclipse and Solar Eclipse.
I have Dariusburst Chronicle Saviors, which from what I understand basically contains this game plus more content? I've been playing that game off and on for 5 years or so now.

They are all pretty much the same thing ... Love Dariusburst since the psp.

this is basically a sequel to space invaders infinity gene for me i loved space invaders infinity gene on ps3 and android and i'm happy there's more games like it by taito

About the game - it looks good to me. I played Darius Gaiden and G-Darius and loved both of them. If I would play this Dariusburst, I think I need a large projector just to make it even look more cinematic.
QOTD - my favorite shoot em up will always be Sora.
Oh yeah, the bigger the screen, the better. More than almost any other game, I would love to see one of these ultra-wide Darius games projected onto a proper movie theater screen. It would almost me too much for the senses!
how can you save that game? I got a new game recently but I dont know where it can save game?
I was originally introduced to the series with the installment on the PS Vita. I had a ton of fun playing through it and would probably still be playing it on my vita would stop crashing my game. Both games are priced the same amount and both seemingly have the same amount of content (which is a ton!)
There's definitely some overlap when it comes to the content, especially the Chronicle mode. Another Chronicle EX+ does offer some exclusive modes, while Chronicle Saviors has its own unique board game-style story mode (which is missing from this game). It's worth noting that the Vita version of Chronicle Saviors was $40, but the console ports were $60. Price at $40 on consoles, this game is actually a bit cheaper than the last game. I would say that $40 is the right price, considering the amount of content found in the package.
That Darius burst game on the vita is super hard to play because the text is not scaled up for the small screen so may give this a whirl.

I have the Vita version of this.. It is great but crazy challenging! I’m not sure I have a favorite shooter series overall because I only like certain games..
Galaga Legions is underrated imo I thought the twin stick control scheme worked very well
QOTD: R-Type has always been my favorite with the Soldier Blade stuff in a close second. I've always felt like the Darius games were like what the Go Bots are to the Transformers.

If I'm not mistaken last Darius Collection cost more than 40$ so I think this is fair price especially if have that much content. Still I think it should be new game for that price,but that's just me.
QOTD I will now pulling FPS instead of shoot em ups(cause I haven't play many shooters) My favourite is BioShock :)

The content criticism on the genre is rather unfair - the idea behind this genre is that they are infinitely replayable with loads of different ways to approach each stage and eventually master the game.

Are there any differences between the Switch and PS4 ports? Really enjoyed playing this at the Arcade Club before the pandemic! A gem of a find :)
Both ports are the same but the High Score and Time Rankings are separated, which is a shame.
Yeah, with how much you get, does sound like it's worth the price for the fans. With me, I'm not that familiar with the games, also, being a PC Gamer Girl, it'd have to be on Steam or GOG or something along those lines for me. 😉 As for the question, hmmmmm, now I know it is first and foremost a movie franchise, but with how many shooters they released based on it, I'm considering it as counts, and that is Star Wars.

It's like playing shooter on movie theater.
Wasn't a fan of the theme of this and there's so many instances where you get surrounded by too many bullets with no escape. The multiple game modes is cool though.

It's a new game, but does share some of the content from DariusBurst: Chronical Saviours. This also includes content from different Darius arcade games.

The new levels and bosses are fun, but if you already own CS, then I wouldn't call this a high priority. Maybe pick it up when it's on sale. I think most fans prefer the modes found in CS to AC.

Got CS ON PS4 GETTING EX TODAY ON SWITCH
I don't understand why you'd buy this when Chronicle Saviours exists.
The Switch basically has Chronicle Saviors, it was just split up into two parts:
You "Darius Burst: Another Chronicle." And you also have "Darius Burst: CS Chronicles."
Guess what the CS stands for?
Not sure why they did it that way, but all of the content is there.
The Ultra-Superwide display ratio kills this game for me. I'm sure your reviews are good as always but there is no way I will pick that game up; even for free.

There is a reason why this game has an infinite lives option because the game is impossible and unfair to the point where it isn't any fun anymore. I know someone is going to reply with GIT GUD so I'll save them some time, I've 1cc a lot of SHMUPS in my time but I'm here to tell you not to buy this game because it won't be too long where you won't be having any fun anymore. This game is stupid hard and impossible.
Its not hard. Just learn a bit and you'll breeze through it.
