Audio engineer here: Worst time in my life was trying to mix on M-Audio speakers early in my career... Get used BW DM-601 HiFi Speakers and a decent HiFi amp to go with them. Get some thick copper cables to connect them. DONE. Closest thing to a hi class studio monitor setup I have found used for around 200 bucks.
What do you think about krk rokit g4 5'
@@AnkitKumar-zd4ms The 5" KRK s are quite good, found them to be useable monitors. Dynaudio BM5A (!) and ADAM A7X are better though if you can spring it...
@@RapidFlow_Shop I produce EDM music for the most part and I’m planning to buy the KRK Classic 5’s, any thoughts on those?
@@nicolasalonso580 They re good for the price, but in order to hear the low end of EDM you are better served with headphones. I use Slate VSX in combination with the Mike Dean room and have gotten amazing results. I know it s not inexpensive, but this would be my absolute recommendation over entry level speakers. Making music is much more fun when your mixes translate well... BTW I currently have no affiliation with Slate :)
@@RapidFlow_Shop Gotta "disagree" on the Adam's , I find the highs getting silky smooth whatever you do :P sounds good but I dont like how they translate. Dynaudio is okay :)
Went ahead and ordered a pair after watching your video. Thanks for the review on them!
It's crazy how the Presonus Eris 3.5's sound very close if not almost the same in terms of the frequency response 😱😵🔥🔥🔥. Presonus is legendary🔥and the 3.5's are a classic and it's amazing how they can compete with other monitors in the same category and with bigger and supposedly better studio monitor brands 😱😵. I would definitely get them instead of the M-Audio studio monitors and many others in the same category 💯
I really like the punch of the m-audio! I got a pair 3 years still going no problem at all!
Yea they are punch too. Wit the bass in the middle and the treble at the top. Away from the walls. They sound great. Absolutely zero room treatment. (L-shaped room)
The highs simply predominate in the presonus, if you go live to the place you will definitely choose the m audio.
What about Presonus E5 XT ? I have them , not bad.
i like how you busted out the eris 3.5 bt as comparison.. going to take these out the shopping cart lmao
Nice review as always, Edward. Nice monitor for the budget. I spotted an Audient Interface on your desk. Is it any good as far as clean and quality sound is concerned? I am planning on setting up a stud. soon.
Almost got one myself till I did tons of research. In conclusion I purchased the Solid State Logic SSL2+. Even the employee at Guitar Center said it's the best in his opinion. I love it, but it's completely up to you in the end.
@@CartelStacks Thanks a bunch!
the eris looks pretty small but sounds super good
I have the bx8 pair. I’ve had them for years. They sound great
I've been having the bx 8's for a while and they're nice
Thanks Ed!
Nice video as always even tho i know damn well i won't buy a pair of studio monitors when i start to build my own home studio.
edifier mr4 or neumi bs5 maybe a better choice than m audio or presonus. Or maybe a pair of old JBL 305p is best bang for buck.
Neumi BS5 are bookshelf speakers, not studio monitors
Question off topic, do you recommend the akg C3000 ? I have a 200/250$ budget for the mic, thanks before and nice video as always!
yes
Is monotor good for play music??
I play music in my room 2/3 man with me .
Or loud speaker 🎉 .?
What's a 2/3 man? But yes probably. It's used in an audio studio
GREAT VIDEO!
Thank you I'll try a pair I have the Mackie cx-3 and what I'm hearing through those is not at all what I'm hearing when I play my track elsewhere.
What do you think about Prodipe pro5v3?
These are decent enough though but it's all up to your ear preference. I used them for a while and shifted to jbl305
Please compare against Eris 5 and Eris 4.5 version 2
finally, someone didn't confuse things
not sure why that cone looks fake as the ones here in Australia are Kevlar, but they are call BX5 D3
that's not the same model lol. BX5 D3 is more expensive than the BX5 in this review.
@@ec6843 ok thanks for the info... good to know that the ones here are a better version :)
😁
Which one is better CV12 or warm audio wa14
the carboon is the new gen?
these are not on amazon??
Maybe it was my ears, but the prsonus sounded better to me here. The mids were less boxy, and the bass, while quieter was more controlled.
Shoot both sound good. With the M-Audio speaker having a bigger and more rounded low end. The M-Audio speakers also had a more forward soundstage than the Presonus. But are not the Presonus about $50 cheaper a pair? Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with either speaker. Like them both, but the bigger woofer gives M-Audio the edge I think.
I recently bought the M-Audio BX5 D3's, and they produce an audible buzz/hum noise from several feet away, when simply powered on (no interface or PC connected). This persists in other power outlets throughout the house. Is this normal?
Keep it away from cables of any other device. this might be causing emi (Elector magnetic interference)
@@One_Dude_Band i have same problem with ESI Aktiv 5 speakers.. i tried everything i found online and i did not find solution.. i kept it away from other cables, separate outlets, bunch of different cables.. the white noise is even louder when i connect them to scarlet solo sound card.. generally active speakers have this problem and its so anoying..
@callumharper3281 I'm not sure .I also checked on forums and got the same problems. Someone on reddit said that it generally happens in under 300-400$ budget speakers so it might not be solvable. You may have to live with it for now.
is this still current?
what DAW are you using?
low key funny how much thinner the eris monitors sound
Presonus is stil the best at Its pricepoint.
What about the M-AUDIO BX-8 D3?
Might be a dumb question but what PC screen / monitor do you use? lol
Good video, but putting the price of one speaker in the thumbnail where you're showing a pair of speakers is misleading.
Not for people with one ear 😳
😂😂😂
am i mistaken or is melon audio another brand ?
Melon Audio is a different brand. Melon Audio don't make studio monitors or keyboards.
I find the E 3.5s are too quiet and blow too easily. Ive blown 2 pairs over 2 years. I dont run them all too loud, but everyone has played an insturment in ableton thats way louder than you think its goint to be.
There is a review of these on TH-cam from 4 years ago. The impression you give on this video is that they are fairly new. What’s the truth on this please? Is this a new version?
These are new. Can you send me a link of the older review you found 4 years ago?

How are they vs BX5 D3
I’m wanting to know as well.
Why you say that "they may not last long time"???
@Edward Smith Are you South African ?
Yes, I am 🇿🇦
What would be the cheapest headphones for mixing my wife cant stand listening to the same badly recorded metal song played over and over at different volume levels
Haha 🤣 l am a big fan of the Audio Technica M20X headphones. They are like $50 and work well. Do you want me to send you a link?
@@EdwardSmithMusic hello how can purchase to reach Africa Malawi
best microphone for singing under 30000 Budget plez help
dude i think the cones are resin cast carbon fiber why would they be called graphite.. and resin is literally plastic so makes sense they would feel like plastic
😍😍😍😍
Hey Ed! I hope this message finds you in good spirits. I wanted to remind you about the email and IG message I sent you a few days ago, which discussed a potential partnership. If you haven't had the opportunity to review it yet, I kindly request you to do so soon. Thank you!
Just send me one microphone bro. I need one
I want someone who can send to Africa please
some day bro, someday
Companies do not send products to african countries? (I'm not from Africa)
I wouldn't buy these monitors - or any monitors. Home amateur recordists don't need them imo. You can get equally good mixing results with 2 different and good quality headphones. Save your $$ guys and forget monitor speakers
I like having the option of listening to how my stuff sounds in a room :) sometimes it’s handy for collaborations too. Hearing things through monitors is important too imo!
Make mixes on headphones, but check them on monitors you can trust as well.
Car test can be even more requiring.
There are numerous problems/dangers with mixing only on headphones. Frequently when I used to do it I'd make mixes that sound great but they didn't sound good when I had the chance to listen on monitors. However mixes that sound good on monitors still always sound good on headphones. Minimum if working on headphones is check your mix in mono. If it sounds good in mono it will sound good in stereo, but often mixes that sound good in stereo, *especially* on headphones where each ear is isolated from the other, fall apart in mono. What you hear in headphones is not how we hear sounds in the real world.
'MELON' Audio? 😂😂😂😂 I hope that doesn't mean they are really a 'lemon' 😂😂😂. Looks like you need to do some better quality control before you post your video!
What a joke
😭😭
