I'm smoking 3 racks of ribs on my Kamado Joe while watching this video and I am thinking back to years ago finding your channel that help guided me to my purchase and methods of how I smoke now. Influencers such as you are now leaders for people who want true expert advice on solid reviews with important considerations. Another nugget of gold from you to the internet!!! Appreciating you from here in Cali.
Great video! Pretty much anyone with a camera phone can have a cooking channel and do reviews these days. Nice to see how much quality you put into your videos.
Someone tells us almost daily how bad media integrity is anymore. Some people need a sign for everything. Been noticing this type of thing being normalized the past few years. Pretty sad times we live in.
Ive had a weber summit for 4-5 years now (outside uncovered for 3 of those years) and I've been hugely satisfied. That said, I'm not one for rotisserie or lots of accessories. I smoke brisket, ribs, and pork most of the time, and grill steak the rest of the time. Works great for me and is a very simple, uncluttered, easy to clean set-up. No extra storage space needed for accessories, easy to keep temp. 10/10
I'm in the hot tub business. I know of manufacturers paying for reviews of this sort directly. These types of reviews are decent for aggregation of overall information and details but for accuracy of conclusions not so much.
The one thing I'll bring up is that steel is one category of all metals. It isn't the only category (there are a LOT of steel alloys). There are a few other metals such as aluminum and cast iron. While technically both can rust, aluminum rusts much more slowly, and with a minimum of care, cast iron will outlast us and the grandkids might fight over it.
Thank you for calling out CNET and showing them how it should be done! I am surprised, disappointed in CNET but also now aware to scrutinize and weight accordingly their reviews. You have been my 1st reference for all Kamados questions I have since a couple of years.
Have you ever tried 2 briskets on the KJ Classic 3? Trying to figure out if I can fit a full sized brisket on the thrill grate and a smaller one on an extension grate and if it would come out good.
Due to your positive reviews and informative cooking videos, I made the decision to purchase a Joe. It was an excellent choice. I appreciate your efforts and am a fan of your work. Looking forward to future videos!!
Looking at the Green Egg picture, it looks like the dome is rotated 90 degrees because the bottom vent is aligned with handle and 180 degrees from hinge. I don't trust 99% of reviews until I read many reviews and understand who is getting kickbacks in money or free stuff. Then I need to see them use the item many times like you do in your reviews. I have a large Green Egg since 2010 and I agree with you for a while KJ had all kinds of add ons that Green Egg didn't. But that has changed now as you have stated, there is all kinds of manufacture items along with some wonderful third party items that are great and I use all the time. There is one thing that love about about KJ and that is the height of the Series 3 Joe, but that is a $3k upgrade cost for me, going to pass on that upgrade. James you do a fantastic job of reviewing hardware after you have used it for several months and that is what makes you standout. A couple of cooks does not make you an expert on that grill. Look at Al going from his Green Egg to a borrowed egg and that made a difference. I was forced away from my Green Egg for 2.3 years and it took me about a month to get back to were I could fire the Green Egg at the temperature I wanted for ten or so hours without have to tend to it. Keep up the great work and I trust what you have to say.
Say it ain't so... Two post-vacation videos, two with background "music". I checked a random sample before vacation -- no "music". I have yet to understand the value of this. Almost always it interferes with the narration. Transition music makes some sense. Music when there is no narration makes some sense. But sitting underneath narration, particularly with repetitive loops -- yuck. Please reconsider.
When it makes no sense, when things just do not add up, “Follow the Money”! And you will see why excellent product was left out and “popular”, ie cheaper, mass produced stuff with wide profit margins and huge marketing budgets, are suddenly stars.
I bought a Vision almost a decade ago because Sam's Club was getting rid of them at the end of summer for ridiculous prices. Just too cheap to pass on. It's fantastic.
I have a vision and my dad has a green egg . I cannot tell a difference in cooking. The replacement parts are hard to come by from vision always are back ordered
I don’t have an aversion. I haven’t tested it so don’t have any good or bad first hand experience with it. There are so many options it’s not feasible to buy them just for testing
CNET is of the same value to me as bing, msn news etc. Just rubbish. SDBBQ and other channels are of way more value to me! Saying that, my KJ classic 3 is on it's way and should be here in 1,5 weeks. Cant wait.
Excellent job on Ur review of th review. Lol.. ur TH GOAT when it comes to detail and facts.. as for the akorn if u remove the bottom ash catch completely and store it upside down in or under th kamado it'll prevent water gathering which causes th rust to begin with.... anywhoo I have several types of cookers ceramic and steel and do gravitate to my ceramics.. but they all have their place.. thanks again for this wonderful review.
Honestly CNET has been like this for awhile especially with electronics. Their top experts are lacking in many areas. They used to allow comments and pretty much stopped that over a year ago, probably due too many people correcting their errors. So finally bought a Big Joe 3 from Wayfair over Labor Day weekend. With some discounts offered I saved about $500. Should be here in a couple of weeks. Started to review your setup videos.
I’m probably one of the only people who still has the Char-Broil Kamander lol. It is insane that this product is listed for 800 dollars on some sites (as much as a classic 1)
Did I hear you correctly? You trusted CNET "reviews" in the past? I cannot for the life of me recall a single CNET review that I have ever found even remotely useful. I figured everyone with even a bit of knowledge knew their "reviews" were trash and only useful for generating affiliate revenue for them. I am glad you brought this up, but if you relied on their other "reviews", you may want to rethink any purchases you made based on them.
The one big problem is that their so called experts are not experts at all. You always take their reviews with a grain of salt. The reviews I trust the most are the ones where they are really using the grills with real backyard tests for a period of cooks and time. Thanks for another good video. I do have one question, will the Big Joe Rotisserie 24 inch work on my 24 inch Grilla Grill? I really don't want to have to get a new Kamado. But, I can't find anyone with info on it..Thanks..
Interesting did not realize that Middleby owns Kamado, they also own Viking Appliances. So when you call for Kamado service now are you calling Middleby?
This is how I feel about americas test kitchen too. CNET is just a step above those "Top Ten" AI review sites and videos unless you are talking about computer parts, and even then, not sure is CNET is good for that anymore.
I don’t know how it got this bad … you take what used to be a brand institution and allow this quality or lack thereof to be published is concerning to me
These commercial sites pimping products for kickbacks is one reason I NEVER pay the least bit of attention to them. You are crazy to think these products were actually tested by anyone with more than one brain cell, or, in fact, tested at all. Just regurgitated sales spew from the manufacturer's advertising.
That reviewer must have bought a six pack for a kid to put the BGE together then collected information thru Chat GBT to put a fake review together, and got rewarded with a 24 pack of Bud Light. Poor Al, he deserves a rematch on his own turf.
Reviewing a kamado's ability to cook using indirect heat without using a diffuser to actually cook with indirect heat is just stupid and undermines everything else in the article.
CNET 'used' to be good, they were sold a few times and started using AI generated articles... pretty sure this one might have been in that AI catagory.
My man went too far into complaining. It’s cnet. You went by their normal review guides… for a tech website, to see how they reviewed this. They just reviewed some grills. They won’t need to get every possible type. They reviewed a few and one that isn’t made but probably can get for a good deal. Like it’s not that serious for real

I remember the good old days when CNET was a decent organization. Thanks for maintaining integrity while the rest of the world goes to the dogs James.

Only part I disagree with is where you said "CNET is a trusted review source......".

As always great content. Would love to hear what your thoughts are on the Grill Dome. Have had one for over 15 years and have zero complaints.
Just like Consumer Reports. Having seen some of their reviews on product sectors where I have knowledge, I no longer trust any review from them.
It’s a real industry problem
Thanks for making our lives easier! Always nice having someone looking out. I hope all is well.
Thanks so much. Kids back to school this week so getting back into routines
I'm in the hot tub business. I know of manufacturers paying for reviews of this sort directly. These types of reviews are decent for aggregation of overall information and details but for accuracy of conclusions not so much.
Dis my first slow cook on my new KJ Big 3 ( double indirect ) and game changer compared to my Green Egg. Not even close.
CNET hasn’t been good for years, in my opinion. 🧐👍 Great job as usual.
Thanks 👍

Thank you for your insights into both how to choose a Kamado and how sloppy was the cnet review.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi James great video as always . I have a Joe jr and classic 2 love them both. Where was that BBQ store located. Thanks Bob
Cheers

It will depend on the size. I am sure 10-12lbs could work with some creativity. Once they shrink down it shouldn’t be a problem
Until they make an AI deepfake of you James, we can rest assured your reviews aren't AI generated like C-Net's 😂
Haha that’s a scary future
I remember when CNET was a good source of info. This seems to contradict that.
Me too. This was perhaps the worst quality review from a reputable source I’ve seen this year. It’s even changed since earlier in the week
