Oh wow. I've never even heard of this place before but I've thoroughly enjoyed 'walking' through history with you and learning something new. When you stand in such beautiful spots it's difficult to imagine the battles that have happened there in years gone by isn't it? So tranquil today. I would love a time machine and be able to go back in time and watch what life was like over the centuries. Thank you so much for taking us with you. Always a pleasure.
Thank you for walking in history with Lidar and hydrology mapping we're seeing into a different past. You can walk anywhere in your area and its interesting!!
Cracking film, a man after my own heart. I love exploring the history and hill Forts of the peak district where I live. Good stuff look forward to watching your other films
Love it there. Have a fab picture of myself, my two young children and my late husband with his arms protectively around us up there on the summit. Thanks for bringing back a precious memory. I've always felt that King Arthur is a precious folk memory of someone immensely important to our ancestors.
I am pleased that my short adventure in history brought back cherished memories for you-Your comment is totally appreciated this also made my walk seem worth filming . Thank you for watching !
Hi James, you keep getting shout outs on the Wessex Way Podcast and then this one popped up this evening so I couldn't resist having a look. It is a lovely place, so green and tranquil with commanding views. Having a spring may well have been the key factor in holding out against the Romans? Interesting to know the origin of the name. Great video well done. New subscriber from Spain!!
Spent part of summer 1969 helping on the archaeological dig by Cardiff University sponsored by The Sunday Times. The pub at that time was called “The White Lion”? Scrumpy and nine-pin bowling most nights. Remember the panicky weekly meetings to come up with something exciting to send to the Sunday paper. Watched the moon landing in a tent in team campground.
The well was at 1.59 on your right. Also, the theory was that it wasn't just the hillfort as that hills encompassed 2 other hills, 1 you showed at about 1.30, and the second is to the right. Originally, Cadbury Hill was a pyramid built in the early South american style. Then, the pyramid was filled and squared. It was then hollowed out and used for celtic usage in the early bronze before becoming a dumnomian Fort to fight and withstand the Romans. The hill you said a dragon would fly to. Is the hill it was attached to. It's a shame they don't unearth the entrance to the inside because that's solid. Glad you found the well lol. It's not blue paint it's what's caused by the ageing. Another thing missed the hill to the left or faced by the entrance where you begin has a devil carved in the ground. That Kate thing is new, haha.
Thank you for that very interesting comment on the surrounding Hills and the Devil-I will have to go back at sometime and have a more in depth look -I am fairly local so this would be good-Thank you for watching
Arthur has been identified as Rigothamus " King of the Britons " a Romano British war leader who is documented to have led a British force against Saxons and Visigoths in Burgundy. They lost due partly to treachery and the survivors are said to have settled in Brittany. It is recorded in the life of St Carantock that Arthur was a warrior active in Somerset as a younger man he has been connected with Cado a West country warlord who may have given his name to the fort Cado (Kay) means battle and bury ,(borough) means a defended settlement. The ramparts were renewed during the lifetime of Rigothamus ( Rig =royal Otha =Arthur mus = latinization of male name ,for instance Mark = Marcus.. The name Camelot is reflacted glamour from the largest urban conurbation in Britain at the time of the Roman invasion. The town was called Camelodunum . If you remove the latinising um from the end of the name you have Camelod. The Romans seized and rebuilt it as Colchester later Boudicca burnt it to the ground.

@@jameswalksinhistory3848 been there twice James, it was a gratuitous Monty Python reference, as one is wont to do whenever Arthur is mentioned.... 🤪

Thank you for watching-Also thank you for your very interesting and comprehensive information 👍
Do you reckon we could convince people to hack out those banks and ditches by hand these days? Let’s hope we don’t have to.
So true amazing effort by our ancestors -Thank you for watching
Dun - Hill. Atherstone - Athers Dun
All the Arthurian nonsense detracts from the true history of these sites.
Dont get me onto wizards and dragons.
I agree -Thank you for watching
