Hey guys just to be clear we are recommending that you use the metolius cam lube as lube, not the original wd40...the wd40 you see in the video is a dry spray cleaner, not oil based that can be used to blow away excess dust/dirt...always happy to hear your thoughts on your different methods, have a great weekend! I've found the boiling water to be really effective in removing dirt before cleaning and lube. Great video.

FYI that wd-40 isn’t a lubricant by design. It’s designed to displace water. Also, it attracts a ridiculous amount of dust and dirt. I’d steer clear.

They need to correct themselves with that mistake🤦🏻‍♂️

He said, stay away from oil based lubes as dust will just get sucked in. WD-40 doesn't only make oil based lube, they have a ton of different lube bases, even ones specifically designed to keep dust away! They did not make a mistake, the mistake was that you did not understand correctly and assumed they said "Yes use normal WD-40" which is not the case! And besides, normal WD-40 is great since the dust will stick to it and once you clean it off, the dust comes off with it.

Hard disagree, it helps clean out the parts and leaves a thin film of lube which is all you really need.
Not ideal (I like a dry wax lube), but plenty good enough given cams aren't loaded by design.

I blast mine with Isopropyl alcohol to remove the old lube, it works well and in my somewhat expert opinion, is safe.

Keep in mind that not all cams like boiling water. In the maintenance PDF from DMM they say you should keep the water under 50 degrees celsius, just my 5 cents.

I realized how dumb I was when I searched how to clean trad gear. I was looking for this kind of cleaning not the cleaning a route kind of cleaning.

WD40 ain't a lub, don't use it for that purpose, u'll early damage ur cams. Only epic tv shop will profit from ur early rebuy :o

No, you can NOT use WD-40, because it is NOT a lubricant.
1€ for every time , someone is claiming this...

i agree but the thing is wildcountry specifically said to lubricate it with WD40... its actually in their manuals that comes when you bought one of their cams.

Oswindra Hermanu oh, really? Need to check this...

    • @felixd1127
      @felixd1127 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oswindra Hermanu no.
The wild country manual does not say anything about the use of WD-40. And, they do not allow water for cleaning above 40 degrees Celsius. Matt is using "boiling" water...
      No further to say 👎

@@felixd1127 they might have changed it in the web, my bad. I havent checked it yet. But i can guarantee you that if you look at the manuals (the papers) that you got when you bought their cams (especially their old heliums which Matt uses in the video) they specifically show a picture where they instruct you to use WD40 to "lubricate" the cams. it still boggles me tho.

DMM maintenance guide says never to use water over 30°

Before you give any recommendations regarding maintenance of climbing gear: please read the fu****g manual first.
At least my wild country manual states: -> for cleaning no water above 40 degrees Celsius.
I really can't understand, how you can release such kind of information w/o any proper check.

A complete copy of Beth Rodden's Metolius cam cleaning video which is much better. Lame!
