Hey Trent, I met you at KONO while you were fueling. I was the new CFI. Been flying all around Idaho in this smoke. It's been absolutely insane. It was good to meet you.
Smoke can be very challenging very quickly. I flew out of Corona CA/LA about 5 years ago VFR to cross over mountains west bound to Phoenix in a Skyhawk I was ferrying to Miami and the smoke and visibility got really bad as I got higher up to about 12,000’ before I was fully on top of it . The smoke from LA was still visible in El Paso
Smoke can catch you quick.. I had a load of Customs Agents in my CAP 206 coming out of Yakima, and turned south too quick…IFR! Quick 180 back to VFR and pick my way around the plume.
We just spent weeks flying across Canada and had to put down a few time because the smoke cut the vis down to ½ mile or less. Same as last summer where we diverted a couple of times because smoke vis went down to zero.
Great video! Just commenting to say that Hailey's scream (as an eagle cry\Native chant) has always been such an acoustically perfect cut into the intro music, I never skip it.
No flying here in Wyoming. 1/2 mile visibility yesterday with NW wind 80 miles from Fish Creek Fire. Clear today but wind forecasts for >40mph winds after noon and high density altitude...2 strikes and I am out. Not looking good for Hunt Field flyin Saturday. Bummer....
Learned to fly in sac during the 1980’s when they burned the rice you talk about Smokey , no gps easy to get lost , the FSS was helpful to get back on track , great vids Trent !!
Challis has three stations with ethanol free 91 AKI mogas (down the road from the airport), Chevron, Sinclair and Phillips 66. Grangeville has a couple places too, near the airport.

Love that airstrip known as Shear, there’s a private residence north of it that has an airstrip as well. I’ve hiked all the way to it and up to Eagles Bluff, which overlooks the whole area. It’s a beautiful place and I’ve met a lot of cool pilots there as they flew in state overnight. Thanks for sharing always love it.
At 4:43 your right main came to a stop real quick after you got airborne. The. When you landed it looked like it was dragging pretty hard on initial touchdown in the dirt. Hope your brake calipers aren’t over tightened it happened to me once upon replacing pads and rotors and simply putting it all back together it was near locked on both wheels
I have some footage in our area during the big Canadian wildfires. VIS was like 3-5 miles everywhere and it was a pretty surreal. Protip: Gatorade bottles have a wide mouth making it easier to skip a pee break 😜
Flying in smoke is no joke. Years ago I tried making an hour or so flight to meet a friend, but when I couldn’t climb out of it or see the ground, I made a 180 and went home. Plus, when the smoke is so thick that you have trouble breathing, it’s time to turn around. Some of those cats are just kittens. For semi feral cats to be that friendly seems rather unusual. Very cute tho.
Living here in Avimor near the Treasure Valley the smoke was pretty bad, plus there was a brush fire next to the 55 highway. I rather would have been with you guys. See you on the next one. And safe travels

To me; it’s really that shows the pilots skill capability, I hope one day to be able to travel via airway at my pace in an experimental. I can say I understand the full and confinement of the experimental capabilities, but I would enjoy having the capability of flight one day! Thanks for the video Trent!

TRENT: when your wheels touched down @Nampa I thought, "Ouch, that cost him about thirty bucks!" Question... Can you help me remember, did the rubber "paint" extend the life of your tires much?
I thought about this bug problem years ago when flying into my favorite private remote areas. One of the planes outfitted with a spray system goes in a day early and lays down a grid of Malathion insecticide to annihilate the flying insect population. 24 hours later we arrive and enjoy a bug free weekend.
I have challenge for you, try landing at HOODOO meadows in the Yellowjacket lake area in Idaho, the Forest Service reopened it after it was closed for years, it looks pretty tricky to land at. I have a video of it as I rode in on my motorcycle if you’re interested in a view of it.
Great vid. I really like this kind of content where you guys are out camping and showing the different airstrips you land on. Are you going to add the prop spinner back on at some point? Looks a bit unfinished without it.
Personally I prefer to watch your videos over watching a tv show or movie, so I don’t think your videos are too long. Now waiting until your next video is the lengthy part lol but I completely understand.
Another pilot I watch fly has a small beaver plane. He has bullet shaped fuel tanks on his wing struts. Wonder if that would help your range or hinder the performance.
Hey Trent awesome way cool videos as always got the insta360 and took it to Sturgis very green video on my end…question how do turn the insta360 while it is out there on your wing strut? Thanks for all you do!

Do you and your buddies know Jonas Marcinko? I believe he flies out of the Nampa airport. Wow, I grew up in Idaho, and I've never been anywhere that remote. Cool cats, too.
Just an FYI Trent. Not sure if you hit the Right brake on the takeoff from Nampa but if you did not you should check that brake, that wheel came to an abrupt stop as soon as it came up.
If you watch the landing the right wheel bounced off the ground almost came to a stop, then came back down on the ground to spin. Yes you might check the tension on wheel bearings or brake drag. Maybe wheel rpm matching the (shutter?) frame rate speed causing the stopped wheel look.
Hey Mr. Palmer! I have a question about propellers. I recently found a new kind of propeller, called the "toroidal propeller". It's a fixed-pitch propeller with a much higher performance (or much lower energy consumption) than normal propellers. Can you tell me if that kind of propeller can be used with homebuilt aircraft?
Hitting tail first is sub-optimal but not awful. It all depends on how often & how hard you hit the trail. They will put up with a lot of abuse. That Cessna looked like a good landing. The real hazards for a tail are larger rocks and deep holes
Trent, what extended stick are you using on your wing for the 360 camera please? Would greatly appreciate a video showing and linking to what mounting hardware you've used
Probably a stupid question, using the setup you have navigation wise with the simulated terrain on your screens, does this negate the “VFR/IFR” constraints in any way, or is it still that “can or can not see terrain”
