My ground rules for my cleaning business is I don’t do dishes at all. I asked that everything is out of the sink and put away when I get there. I don’t mind an occasional coffee cup or pan. But from the moment that I come and give them the initial Walk-through I asked that everything be put away. I also asked that everything is away in their bathrooms so that means nothing is on the countertops except maybe the toothbrush holder. Not one of my clients of ever had a problem with this. And it’s really nice to come to the house and all I have to do is clean the surfaces I don’t have to worry about taking things off counters and putting them back. And I think my clients like that their stuff is put away and nothing is going to get moved or bothered.

That is great! Good for you for being clear and setting your expectations from the beginning. So glad that your customers are great and work well with you.

So smart! The times that I have deviated from this rule, myself, literally has ended up, biting me back. One cup leads to two, two leads to three, three cups leads to multiple dishes in the sink and stuff being left everywhere.
It’s happened every single time I don’t stick to this rule .
I stupidly broke it recently, and said reticently,
“OK, I will do a few.”
Lo and behold, every time I’ve gone back since, the dish pile has grown exponentially.
Live and learn. I have to stick to my own rules.
Angela, your videos are immensely helpful for me as cleaner. You have saved me with your advice, more times than I could tell you
      Thank you for this service!

What my friends tend to do when they are not happy with a client is simply leave.

Believe it or not, I have had 2 customers give me a raise without me asking. They just said, "we are going to be paying you more, because you deserve it and havent raised your prices in 5 years."
And another customer who, when I did raise her rate, said "I was wondering when you were going to ask for more money. You definitely dont get paid enough."
    Lol.
They are obviously exceptions, and not the normal, but it does happen sometimes if you're appreciated!😁

Yikes 😳 I wish I would have watched this before the walk through, I never thought to ask if the house would be looking like this each time , dishes for example… thank you for a lesson I need for the future 😊

Yesss..I'm dealing with this right now ...😱..I've been watching your videos for 3 days...so..appreciate all your advice and wisdom!!..and yes I take full responsibility for allowing myself to be taken advantage of...just wasnt certain how to handle (them) gracefully and professionally...#1situation..couple customers want me to pick up after their children ( mountains of toys!!) #2 couple customers I'm their personal therapist..#3 an elderly customer keeps changing up my routine cleaning..and were so angry that I have set boundaries..they withheld the normal $100 Christmas bonus they'd given me the prior 3 yrs ;)
Dealing with all these different personalitys can be difficult!
Yes I will be implimenting..a Yearly..Policy Contract..as the initial one seems to not be getting referenced! :) Thank You for What You Do For All of us!! Your the Best!!

A good client (who cleans before you come to clean) can also be taken advantage of as well.

    • @maryogie1941

Are you still cleaning for #3 ? Withholding Christmas bonus would be demoralizing and I wouldn't want to clean for them.

Isn't better to do a month to month agreement? A year it's a long time and how many times can you increase the rates in a year?

Hello. Angela. I have this going on with a client I did not set boundaries at first. I have been cleaning for them a year now. But every week there is more mess to clean the night stan I can not clean on his sild of the bed. Now his wife nightstand is just as bad. How can I put a stop of them taking advantage of me? And one more thing. He stays home she works out of the house He stays in his chair I have to work around him He drops a lot of stuff on the floor around his chair. And I can not get to it. Do I tell him he needs to get out of his chair so I can do my job?

Hi Angela, Good timing as I am going to my clients house on Fri and I am wondering how to raise my hourly wage. Background, they are the elderly parents of a friend of mine that I helped out with 3years ago at a price of 12.50 for 4 hrs 1 day a week. As I mentioned I usually charge 20-30 an hr. and I am in the process of growing my business. They now want me for 2 days a week as they are declining in health, I am also there CNA. I would like to know how do I go about raising it to 15 an hr, money is not an issue for them. But because of our business/friendship I don't know how to go about it, or tell them I need to move on to make more money. Thanks for all you do!

what do you do if the client has a special needs child who wreaks havoc(not when I'm there) but causes the house to be disorganized. And Mom tries but it's not easy. She's a working Mom and neitherMom or child are there when I clean...and she is appreciative.but the place is really is a state of disorganization.

Hi zork i think you need to talk to the lady and let her know that she needs more then a cleaner person she need to be paying you more for picking up because she has a need for more service. is her responsibility to prepare the house for you and if she can't pay you more then leave. there will be more people happy to have your service and be ok with YOU 😉
