How accurate is the Renishaw spindle probe in a Haas CNC mill? Can it be used like a CMM for part inspection? We do a quick test to find out.

I've been using the probe in my mm2 for inspection with great results, I always check against a ring gauge, and it always measures it always displays exactly what the ring gauge is. Amazing stuff.

Nicely done. I would have worried that the probing cycle would have the same inaccuracies as the machining cycle; i.e. they are both running off the same ball screws in the X and Y. But you did a demo to measure the actual dimensions! The dimensions may change as the machine warms up, but it may still be accurate enough.

Please do one more video how to read macro code and how to identify this.

Can you do this again and measure the gauge blocks and a ring gauge?

Hi Stuart, we just uploaded a video looking into this for you: th-cam.com/video/tv9N-9olKFw/w-d-xo.html

I was just wondering, can i do those measuring processes automatically with nc data? I am shaping basic forms usually. For example, i have a part. I roughed into it, i gave finish pass and after that i want to measure check? Is it possible to do all things at one NC data?

I got hear seing comercial from Q-MARK AND they where braging how they make the best stuff and I needed to know what the prob are for

Renishaw guarantees 1UM for it so, it should be able to inspect.

The probe is only as accurate as the machine. If the machine is not properly compensated, for both backlash and linear errors, a probe cannot be accurate

CNC probing is great for auto compensating during machining. It is not great at acting as a CMM. Don't use the CNC probing as your quantity control. Just Don't!

What about cutting small and then final tool paths or offsets to real get tight tol, if they are needed

@@ryanbeard1119 I would say before one uses such measuring techniques to know your customer base very well. I've used the probe for measuring, but I also knew the customers weren't that picky. I've machined parts for medical customers that wanted full Zeiss CMM reports so using the probe on those parts was absolutely out. I'd use the probe to gauge were I'm at on those parts but in no way could use it in place of a QC report.

Dont get me wrong, this is one of the most informative chanels regarding Fachwissen, but you cant be so knowledgeable and then use imperial bs measurements.
    Lächerlich, unwürdig.
