The best possible move is to go to Community college for 2 years, then go to a UC or CSU for the last 2. This makes it so your first 2 years of college are basically free, and it helps serve as a transition between HS and college. It also gives you time to decide majors and figure out what school to go to. Also, since the class load is low, you can work part-time while in CC and basically save enough to go a UC or CSU and graduate with no debt. Finally, it is soooooo incredibly easy to get into very good schools out of CC compared to HS. You can just casually breeze through CC with a 3.4 and be GUARANTEED admission into any UC besides UCLA, Berkeley or UCSD.
@@bodirockbeats UCLA hands down, the better, well known school. It's the #1 public university in the US. But it depends on your major. If you are accounting, business major, CSUN program are good. But if you are psychology, biology, film, theater, poli science then UCLA is known for that. If you strictly compare both school side by side UCLA is 100% better but it really depends on your major. But I would say go to UCLA as it's more prestigious and well known.

You can get associate degree for transfer (ADT) from CC in your major but if you don't, it's fine too. Main reason you want to go through CC for two years and transfer to a UC or CSU for the last two year is cost saving. As you will pay $0 for your classes at CC. Regarding your question, you can change ur major when transferring. That's totally fine. But you want to have something in mind regarding what field will you major in because you will choose your transfer school based on that. Because every UC and CSU have different majors, you want to have major in your mind.

Agreed. In today's times, you need at least a 3.7 high school GPA to be considered for any of the UC's (even UC Merced [which is the simplest UC school to get into]). I knew one person who had a near weighted 4.0 GPA (3.95 GPA to be precise) and his SAT score was an 1100 out of 1600 and his ACT score was a 22. He applied to UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine and UC San Diego for Fall of 2017. He only got admitted into two UC Schools (UC Merced and UC Riverside [from the waiting list] and got waitlisted and was later rejected by UC Santa Cruz). He did attend UCR though. The rest of the UC's rejected him easily. The point is the UC's are tough to get into. They are the new Ivy League schools while the CSU's are the new UC's.

These UC schools will probably not admit you unless have at least a 4.0 High school GPA and/or have a sports scholarship lined up and/or if you come from a wealthy family. CSUN graduate here. It suited me fine. When I went it was much cheaper. I paid for it out of my own pocket every semester, so I had zero debt when I left. Now it's more expensive, but it's all this "buy now pay later." Students leave with a diploma and a ton of debt. While UC does more research, there's research going on at CSU too. Good video.
UC system develops leaders and scholars with a theory-based education, and CSU system develops employees, but it also depends on what you do when you get out. In short, it depends on what your goals are. Employers really love to see UC on your resumé, because they know it’s more intense and selective, but excellent accountants, engineers, social workers, teachers, and computer science professionals come out of the CSU system. For instance, I know a great engineer who went to San Jose State, and he had a quality internship for NASA. He ended-up working for a robotics manufacturer… Whatever you do, plan your educational and career path, and don’t hesitate going to a two year community college.
I’m thinking about UCI and Cal State Fullerton for public health. At Fullerton it is all paid for with Fafsa books, parking pass, summer classes etc. UCI I would have to pay out of pocket 3,000 each semester and books etc

Hi @angie I'm in the exact same position as you. I go to community college (mtsac) and I can't seem to decide on transferring to UCI or Fullerton as public health major. Have you decided yet? If so, what made you pick one over the other?
@@ramiromuniz yes, I picked CSUF because I received money back from financial aid. At UCI I would have to take out a small loan and I would have had to dorm at UCI . I also seen that some public health teachers teach at both schools. I know I want to get my mph so I’m trying to save money. I got a job as a covid 19 screener, then in a few months worked my way to a public Health covid contact tracer. I went with saving money and trying to build up experience in the field. Csuf upper pubh classes are not overcrowded and I got all my classes. I’m happy with my choice but to be honest I don’t like the drive to csuf, parking sucks, and some students don’t really care about covid safety. If money, housing, and location was not a issue I would have gone to UCI just to say I went to UCI lol but most jobs don’t care. FYI: I got into UCD global disease biology. Waitlisted to UCI although I tagged them and got accepted in the public health policy. UCI had me on the waitlist for so long I probably would have not got my classes. Gpa was 3.5
@@angierubio8368 u probably already decided but Cal State Fulleton is the better choice since you have full financial aid. Cost plus dorm plus meal, these can all add up quick and you will graduate with debt so I would go for CSUF
If you are interested in computer science, and you don't want to deal with going in person, CSUMB has a great all online program; plus, the program gives you the same diploma like if you went in person. So, no, it will not say "online," or anything like that.

I got denied admission to UC Berkeley and waitlisted by UC Davis; and to stick to my dreams of going straight to a four year university out of high school, I opted to enroll to my top choice CSU school San Jose State. I used to be sad about not getting into a “prestigious” university but over time through challenges and successes, SJSU truly was meant for me
It’s a very difficult transition going from HS to a UC. You kind of get lost. There are 500 kids in some major classes and the competition is intense. My chem professor would like spend class time talking about philosophy and being happy. I honestly didn’t think we would be expected to actually know the material if we were being taught it in class. In HS, your teacher designs the class and if they don’t teach you something you don’t have to know it. In college the professor can spend class time playing music or even spending less than 1 minute on an important slide and on the exam they expect you to know it as if you were taught it. You also have like 3-4 classes in 10 weeks. So imagine having 3-4 professors who are rushing material and then on the exam your grade depends on how well you know the material. Your entire grade is the exams. Sometimes other students get lucky and have better professors sometimes you get stuck with a sucky one. Then you have to teach yourself. You have multiple exams in one week (I’ve had 3 finals in one day before). It’s so time consuming having to teach yourself. Researching the material then taking detailed notes in such a short amount of time. Sometimes you’re waitlisted for important classes that you need and you still need financial aid (loans) so you have to sign up for random classes just to have enough units. Then you have to juggle like the random classes on top of the actual class you are waitlisted in. All within the third week then you suddenly have exams in all those classes. There is so much bureaucracy in the system. You can’t change your major without talking to 3-5 people all of which are busy and you have to schedule time to meet with them and that takes like multiple quarters. Then even when you meet with them they probably don’t tell you everything you need to know so you have to figure out the rules yourself. All this while paying so much money. Don’t even get me started on the housing situation. Davis is such a small town like there are like two companies that run the housing. They make you sign year long contracts. You can only get out of it if you find someone to take over your lease. I signed a lease back in like Jan 2020 for the sep 2020-sep 2021 months and when school shut down I couldn’t find anyone to take over my lease. It’s very stressful as a student to deal with all this crap. I left my PhD program and moved out and they still expected me to pay rent. They still bother me for like $6,000. Honestly going to likeCSU east bay would be better. At least you have variable housing options, monthly contracts, better professors who have time for you, ect. Don’t even get me started on the grad programs. The professors only hire international students not those who went to Davis in undergrad because they know you weren’t taught well. A student from a third world country knows more than you because they are the top of their class. Good luck finding a mentor and finding. That’s why your TAs are usually domestic students who went to a UC for their undergrad, because no professor wants a domestic student. You struggle and work so hard, pay so much money, uphold the Davis housing market, make everyone in Davis rich and they can’t even teach you properly then you work your ass off and they won’t even accept you as a grad student over another international student.

So once you finish your associate's at a CC, can you change what you'll major in (bachelor's degree) if you get into a CSU/UC?

Yeah it's good but it gets eaten up by rent. Best move is commute to local Cal State and keep the loan money as an emergency fund.

I was class of 21’ and it was more like 4.0 bare minimum for both berkeley and ucla.

I noticed that students get careers doing research at the same UC schools that they attended. Otherwise, save your money and attend a CSU school.

You will NEVER know until you apply. Trust God and go for it . Pray about it and if it is the Lords will it’ll be he his bill and he never defaults
