Hey so I wanna do animal science in UC Davis so what do I do to get admission my gpa's are around 4.00 how much is my perectange that I get accepted. I'm still in 8th😂
Hi Akash - That’s a bit too far in advance for me to give an opinion, but I like your ambition! 😅 I think if you maintain a great GPA in high school and participate in extracurricular activities, you’ll be in a good spot!
I am a high school dropout with a cumulative GPA below a 1.0. After getting my GED, I spent a few years in CC and graduated with a 3.9 GPA, earned multiple AA’s and got accepted into Cal, UC Irvine and UC Davis. Community College gives everyone the opportunity to reinvent themselves, to mature, and to find direction in life. I did not have a goal of transferring to a four-year university when I entered CC but destiny had other plans. I am now currently finishing my first year at Cal and have loved every minute of it. Please do not fall into the stigma of chasing a “dream school”. No matter which university you are led to, know that, that is where you were called to go and everything will work out!
to any high school seniors bummed out about their decision results: dont be afraid of community colleges! there’s a stigma against CCs.. but if I could go back in time to choose between university or CC, I’d choose community all over again. i hated it at first but only because i pressured myself into feeling like i should have gone to a CSU or UC. there’s no wrong path! it doesn’t matter how long you take. CC’s helped me save money, the classes were smaller and I could be more personal with the professors. finally it was much easier to get into the universities I wanted due to the transfer system! CC transfers are given priority over high school graduates. Out of high school I pretty much got waitlisted and rejected from every place I applied even though I took AP’s, had great grades and extracurriculars. This year as a transfer applicant, I got into all the schools I got rejected from and even into schools I thought I wasn’t good enough for! whatever you choose, its okay that its not the plan you had! be kind to yourself, i know i wasn’t to myself back then :)
The cc system is amazing if you put the work in. I came back to school at the age of 28, worked my ass off, and got into UCLA. I was also accepted into UCB, UCSD, UCSB.
@@Cookierocky1005 What CC did you attend? I'm a senior this year looking into CC and then transferring over to save money, so I was wondering what a good CC would be
@@paigepetersen402 the social scene is definitely not nearly on par with schools like ucsb and ucla but if you look for events and activities you will definitely find them. like at ucsb the parties come to you, but at ucsd you will have to find the parties. the easiest way to find those parties and events is just by joining clubs/teams/greek life and i can assure you that if you join something you will have a great social life and it will not be boring at all. definitely go out of your way and try clubs tho until you find one that you like. also the beach is literally a ten minute walk away so if you like the beach then youll love it here haha
Santa cruz is amazing. It just doesn't get the recognition because it isn't as prestigious as la or Berkeley. I transferred here two years ago after getting into to ucla, sd, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Santa cruz. Ucla was my dream school but I just couldn't get over the fact that people there so so stuck up. Sure they got a high ranking but in the end it doesn't matter. I'm now getting ready to graduate and have zero regrets. All the professors I've had are truly amazing and have made my experience even better. And this school is truly underrated. Once you stroll among the redwoods on your way to class, or have unlimited views of the ocean you will truly never get tired of that school.
Also I have no clue what you are talking about with public transportation. Thr surrounding cities allow all students to travel for free and I have never once had an issue with it.
BRO!!! Thank you for pointing that out, I surely thought he would've put the people's attitudes and professor's classes in the pros or cons. I also attend Santa Cruz and our school is so slept on because we're still relatively young, but that doesn't stop us from being a great school. We have phenomenal orgs. and professors, our city is definitely one of the better-looking ones in California. I hope as our school grows in age our recognition does too!
@@wonderkorbo No, you're slept on because at one point in time, grades were not given. I think that was a long time ago, but that absolutely KILLED UCSC's academic reputation at the time. Nobody took a school seriously that didn't hand out grades.
@@larrydunn4626 yeah ik what ur talking about my prof and were actually have a conversation about this time in the university history, they actually try to cover it up but I doubt many ppl know as much as you
I graduated from UCI last year. You can def have a good social life if you join the right clubs and make friends in your classes. Disneyland is a 30 minute drive and the beaches are only a 10 minute drive. ZOT ZOT ZOT!!
My dad went to UCLA, my brother Cal. I got rejected by all besides UCR when I applied. I was distrauct and thought my life was over. This is so silly now looking back. I ended up appealing and going to UCSC which I later regretted and transferred to UCSD even though all my counselors told me it wasn’t possible. In my entire experience every counselor told me my dreams or goals were impossible. Never listen to the opinions of others and follow your own path. You’ll be amazed where you end up. UCSD was the best experience and I’m so glad I gave the “socially deaf” campus a chance. Thanks for the memories
What was so bad abt UCSC, I’m a hs senior and so far that’s the only uc I’ve gotten into. I’m on the east coast and I’m wondering if going to a local uni is better, also since I’m on the east coast no one I talk to knows anything abt uc’s other than UCLA and uc Berkeley are good schools.
@@mr.awesome5619 idk certain schools are definitely better suited for certain people, but personally I love ucsc. Im a computer science major and the experience has been nothing but amazing so far. Some great professors/connections, and the area is beautiful.
UC Riverside alumnus...great people and rising Top 100 US News ranked programs at one of the fastest growing UC's for a reason still having a personal touch/more collaborative education that most other UC's lack...go Highlanders!!
Me in HS: I hope I can get into Berkeley and get an enriching education and be a part of its beautiful campus life. Me at Berkeley: Anxiety from notifications about stabbing attacks and failing midterms :')
Lmfao gonna be me as a college student. That’s actually the reason I didn’t apply to Berkeley, I heard it was pretty unsafe area so noped out right away. But it looks like a rly nice school though
@@kaitlyng7850 I've been at home for the fall and spring so I haven't actually been anywhere near the campus but I still get notifications from the police department about muggings and assaults around the area. I think there was a bomb threat last week near campus and a couple months ago there was a "mugging via broomstick" alert. Anyway, wishing you the best on college decisions 🥰
Berkeley isn’t the safest place in the world, but I’m from the Bay Area and it’s not significantly more dangerous than any other bigger city here. If you’re not used to getting notifications about everything that happens than it may be alarming, but if you’re smart about safety it’s not anything new
@@kaitlyng7850 omg yea it isn't the safest, a few weeks ago I was walking home from the target just off the campus and someone punched me in the face lol. I walked home bloody and the police didnt do anything
I graduated from Davis! You made some good points. I’d like to add from my experience, If you’re pre-health(pre-med,pre-PA,pre-nursing, pre-public health) there are tons of hospitals internships and other opportunities. For STEM folks in general, there’s lots of research positions available, too. I was able publish my first research project from working in one! Tech wise tho, like you mentioned, I’d agree, I didn’t know very many folks who were in that sector I’d also say it’s not as quiet as you’d think. Davis has a fun small townish vibe with weekend farmers markets that people love, but also if you were into frat life those day parties existed too.
graduating from uc davis in spring and i agree with all your points! the agriculture and vet facilities are world-class and even if you’re not in those majors you can take cool classes like wine and beer making, if you like the small-town feel also i would recommend to come here, it’s close enough to sacramento and sf that you aren’t in the middle of nowhere but it’s a nice chance of pace imo :)
I'm a first year and yes I definitely agree on the small town feel. Coming from a small town, it wasn't overwhelming and it feels safe to walk/bike around the town as it is a college town!
I’m a UCSD grad; double-majored in math & computer science. I was also on the women’s crew team for 4 years. Overall great college experience, which led to awesome jobs in high tech in Silicon Valley, Paris, and Seattle, as well as life-long friends.
I’m a high school student and i’m really nervous to move away from home and I recently got off the UCSD waitlist for human biology planning to go premed so you know any pros that come with me going to san diego 😅🙏🏽
im currently a first year @ UCSD & i genuinely love it so much. the campus is so beautiful and it’s definitely not as “socially dead” as people think. it really just depends on who you’re friends with honestly and based on your preferences. a lot of the freshman are super social and everyone ive ever talked to is always down to make friends. and yes la jolla is a pretty expensive place BUT there’s so many other places to live in San Diego and SO much to do and see!
I was accepted to UCSB last week & rejected from UCLA. I'm excited to think of what my life could be like at SB, though!! From videos I've watched so far, UCSB has everything from good academics, fun social scene, and amazing location. Thanks for this informative vid!
I went there 30 years ago. If you don’t already, learn to surf! You will probably never again live somewhere where you can bike to a surf spot from your bedroom.
I am at a similar situation now. I was rejected from UCLA on Friday, and was accepted to UCSB today. I never imagined that I would want to go to UCSB knowing that their location wasn't in the city, and that the major wouldn't be helpful for the career I want to pursue. However, when I got the acceptance, a lightbulb struck me. I look more into the student life and major. The student life is good for me. Additionally, although the major isn't the most focused on what I want to do (graphic design), I think it's better than a more business focused version of the major that a private would give me. Also with the broad major, I would gain a lot of skills, which is why I wanted to go into DMA at UCLA. As of now, it's likely that I'll go to UCSB.
i got accepted to ucla and berkeley but ended up going to santa cruz because they were giving me a full ride, and im super happy i did. the campus is beautiful, but the best part for me is the relationships you get to forge with your professors. ive been given so many research opportunities that i know i wouldnt have gotten had i gone to a bigger school like ucla.
@@racheldollton awesome! i graduated this year, but im going back for the winter quarter to work on my phd applications with a professor. maybe i'll see you around campus!! :DD
@@shakrsajs Sure! I got into college in a bit of an unconventional way. I wasn't accepted anywhere straight out of high school, so I went to community college. I had already accrued credit for eight courses in the state of California through AP exams, so I only did one year at community college before I was able to transfer out. Because of this expedited time frame, I began to apply to schools after my first semester at community college. My GPA was a 4.0 while I was applying, and I was able to get the Regents Scholarship because of that. Outside of that scholarship (which allowed me to pay for housing and other essentials), I grew up in a first-gen low-income family and made sure that was reflected not only on FAFSA, but also in my personal statement. "Smaller" UCs definitely give out better finaid packages to students who are struggling financially, so its super important to keep that in mind if you're a first-gen student whose parents can't pay for you!
@@averycervantes7773 thankyou so much for the explanation! That makes a lot of sense. I have also accrued some credit for college courses during my high school and I’m going to be applying for UCLA and I hope for the best! thankyou!
Riverside student here. Another thing I love about our campus is it’s scenery. There’s still a lot of open space on campus, most of the fields are grass but it’s better than nothing. We’re right up against the mountains on one side, if you like the desert than you’ll love the trails around the school and the city. On the flip side it is very hot here, Summers are easily over a 100 degrees Fahrenheit most days. I haven’t been to all the UCs but it feels much less intimidating to me than schools like UCLA or UCSD with their sprawling campuses and giant buildings. And if you’re going into entomology like me, the faculty here are some of the best
Your thorough research and presentation are beyond impressive. I will share this with my daughter and my students. Thank you VERY much for being so transparent, non-superficial, and not leaning toward any particular UC. You're simply sharing information in a very professional way. Cool points!
hey ! so i’m currently a first year at UCI and honestly there’s a pretty good social life. i feel like the old UCI rep has been up keeping this idea , but in reality , it’s pretty social ! it’s obviously not like UCLA or something , but we still have a good amount of greek life , plus it’s a super nice environment. most to all students will actually help u in class and their mostly all rly friendly ! good luck to everyone who applied to UCI !!
Here after being rejected from UCI lol. Still waiting to get back from UCLA, UCD, UCSD, AND UCSB. I’ll update when I hear back. Best of luck to everyone waiting for their admissions! Edit Update: Waitlisted at UCSB. colleges decisions be roughhh haha I rly wanna get into UCSD but like oh well. Edit Update: I GOT INTO UC DAVIS!!!!! Edit Update: Waitlist at UCSD omllll YAYYYYYY it was like a 5% acceptance rate this year... 118000 students applied and only 6200 got in. The fact I was even considered is a celebration within itself haha Edit: UCLA rejected haha was expecting it so all good Y’all if you got rejected from your dream schools, just know we are all in this together. The college admissions is a total crapshoot and if you’re lucky, you’re lucky there’s nothing you can really do about it. This year has been crazy for all of us and it’s even worse because it’s more people than normal applying. Wherever you go I’m sure you’ll be happy! Prestige doesn’t decide your worth!
UCR is actually a decent school. I’m on my fourth year and I’m actually set to graduate a quarter early! Definitely a good school and I think eventually it’ll rise even higher!
I mean, Santa Cruz definitely got the most culture, i can say that. Loved my experience there. Being from SoCal(SB area), i can definitely say that the open-minded atmosphere, living in the forest, and having hella hiking/beaches within a 2 -mile radius made my college experience much more laid back and memorable. Going to grad school and looking back, i definitely feel like the small class sizes really gave me a chance to connect with professors, which got me into research and letters of recs, etc. Idk, overall, rankings are a pretty antiquated way at looking at college lol Definitely go where you feel you belong and where you can be yourself. Enjoy the journey y’all. Peace.
Awesome video! I just got accepted into UCSB and UCSC and didn’t realize how lucky I was to get into these amazing schools. I hope everyone else got accepted into the UC of their choice
UCSC student here! A cool thing about the school is their residential colleges. UCSC was built with the idea of being a large university with a small college feel. There are 10 residential colleges all across campus. The colleges are where students dorm, meet with advisors, and other stuff. Each has its own theme and you can pick whichever one you want (meaning it doesn't depend on your major). You'll still be taking classes all over campus. I'm only a freshman, so I haven't been on campus, but all of my professors so far have been great and everyone I've met has been really nice and supportive. Anyways, go slugs!
hey ! i got admitted to UCSC this year, and im really struggling to pick between, SF STATE, USF, UCSC, or UCR. I would like to go to UCSC bc its a bit ways away and i feel it would be good to see a new environment for me to get away from home. but i heard recently theres like a housing crisis there that students arent able to afford housing. Im from the bay area, so living on campus is something im looking into, but this whole “housing crisis” is kind of pushing me away. is there a bad housing situation at UCSC ?
This video is so insightful, and the graphics are amazing! As a CA high school senior who applied to almost all the UCs, I thank you for making this video!!!
Uci is very social it’s just not a party school but most ppl here are really focused on academics and creating strong genuine friendships:) if you have AP credits getting classes is cake
Love seeing UCSB move up the ranks. As an alum, moving up the career ladder takes a lot of soft skills (presentations, listening, speaking with management). You really have to learn to be a people person if you want to move to management and so forth. If you do your part in socializing (talking to people, partying, connecting with people) this will really help your career. So don't just think it's all about technical skills and the major. The great thing about UCSB is that you are only surrounded by other college students, so it forces you to be in that position all the time. But don't party too much. Still put in the work to learn your academics. Technical Skills + People skills will be able to help you advance in your career.
i’m glad you mentioned that it changes w/ major but u should highlight that a little more. UC Santa Cruz might not be #1 in the nation overall but it’s Marine Bio program and Comp Sci programs are incredibly selective and well respected.
This! Especially when looking at their cog sci ranking too, they are right up there with UC Berkeley. It definitely bleeds into their psych program and they offer a combined major
Yeah, most of the departments in PBSci are very esteemed. (I am unfamiliar with departments outside of PBSci. Not saying they aren't esteemed, just saying I do not know)
UC Merced has established a medical education department, and is working towards opening a medical school within the next few years. As a university located deep in the Central Valley it has regarded itself to sustainability and community development. During my undergrad, they were able to open 10 new buildings! (Housing, classrooms, research buildings, and more) If you have time, I highly recommend coming to see the campus!
I missed your comment. I comment down on someone’s about our future medical school joint with UC Davis. I haven’t followed up on it the last time I heard it. Even though I just lived by UCM. I haven’t visited this campus. First 2 year I dropped my daughter off in the morning. 3rd year she was in Spain. 4th year this covid so not one trip to the campus as it is blocked off. I did go by this week so my daughter can picked up her cap and gown ordered.
Merced may be dead to people but UCM did many great things. The amazing developing I can see from a distance. My daughter will graduated this May. She currently worked part time and will be full time. My husband is retiring but he hope to work part time counseling at UCM or MC.
Legit was looking for any comment related to UCM since I just graduated HS and will be going to UCM. Scared but I am really excited to attend the school.
To add to this, if you want to go to Medical School UC Merced will have a BS/MD program where if your stats were good enough to high school and get into this program and maintain a 3.2 (I think) you will go on to UCSF-Fresno to get your MD degree. It has most of the popular residencies (Surgery, Emergency, Internal and Ortho) plus you get in-state tuition. Sadly, it's only accepting 12 students for the first year but plans to increase more slots depending on interest (which there definitely will be because it's Med School).
Watching this as a UCI freshman, we're working on the social life, okay?! haha hopefully though campus will open and we can all get back together in person :D
Just Graduated from UCSB a year ago so I don’t know why I’m watching this but guys YOU NEED TO GO HERE literally the CRAZIEST AND BEST EXPERIENCE EVER TO BE HAD
I went to UCSD thinking "ehh it's not Berkeley or UCLA". Do not go in thinking that. UCSD kids are smart as hell and they put the work in. Geisel Library has a 24 hour section and I've been there at 4-5 am and seen it still packed with people. UCSD is a great education but they will make you work for it. EDIT: I'll also add it wasn't listed as a con but the campus is way too overcrowded. I think all UCs are really like this, but I watched UCSD go from 33k to 40k undergraduates in just five years, and we had some new buildings come up but not nearly at the same pace. The dining halls became so crowded at lunch time that I would either get food elsewhere or eat lunch at a different time.
UCR Class of 2015. I graduated with a degree in Economics with a concentration in Mathematics. My top choice UC's though were UC Santa Cruz and UC Santa Barbara. Of course, I was rejected by UCSB and waitlisted and then rejected by UCSC.
I definitely agree with Davis having so many unique majors and classes! I graduated in Animal Biology with a minor in Entomology and if you wanna do anything with animals, plants, or nature in general, Davis is perfect. Just off the top of my head, different majors that you can have studying animals are: animal biology, animal science, wildlife fish and conservation, marine ecology and organismal biology, Entomology, Evolution Ecology and Biodiversity, animal science management, and more! And the research labs are top notch so it's really easy to get into doing undergraduate research. Now I'm starting my PhD at UCR so we'll see how that goes!
Go to community college, take it easy, get good grades, work on your UC application years ahead of time, get professional experience, get your AA or AS, and then apply for transfer to your dream UCs. You're almost guaranteed to be accepted.
I think there are some perks you’re missing about UCSC and I say this as a UCLA student. First of all Santa Cruz is just the most amazing town in such a beautiful area. For some reason this seems to be a bit of a polarizing topic, but I personally believe they have the third prettiest campus out of all the UCs aside from our North Campus area and UCSB. I’d imagine UCSC students could have the best overall mental health of the UCs. Someone correct me if I’m wrong though.
Honestly didn’t know how good UCLA was until watching this video and reading a bit more about it. Wish me luck y’all, I got accepted into UCLA for human bio and I’m nervous about moving away from family
As an HBS major at UCLA, dont sweat it so much! It's tough in the beginning but there's so many people here to help you. You're not alone- remember that!
UCI is in Orange County next to tons of beautiful beaches and hiking locations and there is an amtrak to LA as well as Disney Land... I wouldn't say there isn't much to do 😜. Even without a car, the coastline is like 5 miles from the campus which is an easy bike ride.
I’m a second year undergrad at UC San Diego and i love it!!! i got into UCSB, UCI, UCD, UCSC but i’m so glad i chose UCSD. i’m not sure why everyone says it’s socially dead, i went to parties every single weekend and sometimes even during the weekdays on school nights (before covid of course). it is a competitive school but if you are a STEM major definitely come here, there are so many opportunities for you and you will not regret your decision. also UCSD is in a very large city (san diego) so there’s a ton of local opportunities available for us as opposed to some other schools that are in the middle of nowhere (like davis). come to ucsd !!!!
I am about to graduate from UCSB so I was curious about your video... I got accepted into numerous UCs so I was worried about which to choose... but after attending UCSB I have to say I have zero regrets about selecting it. You summarized it pretty well, the other students were all so nice and always down to party/hang out, some departments are more flexible than others, and the location is the best out of any campus I have been to. You're right though... if you come here expect to live in a double or a triple unless you have a good amount of money.
@@sarahhernandez9814 3.3 transfer gpa, which means i went to a community college first then transferred (not right out of high school) and the gpa reqs are more lenient if you do it this way because college courses are usually a bit harder than high school courses. For example, most freshmen have a 4.0 or above but you can get guaranteed transfer admission with a 3.4 now. if youre transferring try and meet all the TAG reqs for guaranteed admission. I was accepted to all UCs (UCI, UCSD, UCSB, UCR, UCM, UCD etc) except for UCLA and UC Berkeley but I didnt even apply to those two because i didnt feel confident. The reqs change year to year based on number of applicants and other factors so even though I got in with a 3.3 in 2018, maybe I would not have in 2022.
I graduated from UCLA many, many years ago. I believe that my years there were the most productive and most rewarding years of my life. Of course it helped that every year I was there the Bruins won the National Championship in basketball.
Right now UCLA is sooo hard to get in! Only one student from my school gets the offer, but in5years ago, there were like twenty people got the offer of ucla. World's changing so fast.
I would honestly say that this is pretty surface level stuff when it comes to the actual experience of attending any of the UCs. It is a lot of information that's definitely valid and true to the UC campuses I've spent time at, just know it will probably only amount to a small part of your potential story at that school. The best way to get the full picture is to talk to and ask your own questions to people who have actually attended, rather than getting lured in by a campus' marketing strategies (which, make no mistake, is the primary motivation for ranking campuses nationally or worldwide). A massive chunk of your experience attending any of these schools is also going to depend on your major and it's department's attitude towards students, such as the empathy that professors would tend to have or how much bureaucratic bs they have on them telling them to teach two terms' worth of info in a single term, etc. Another key bit of info to consider as well is the type of city your school is located in (and somewhat consequently the type of people your school could attract). I won't make any generalizations here because people are their own, but know that there are definitely some consistent demographics you can expect in a more conservative city vs a more progressive city, or a quieter town vs a busier city. Expect corresponding attitudes and levels of courtesy from potential future roommates.
It’s also worth noting that the UC’s have a limit to how many out of state students can enroll ≈ 18% systemwide though they are working on legislation to lower that percent. To any out of state applicants, don’t be super upset if you’re rejected or waitlisted :)
wish I went to UCSD but I'm going into my 3rd year at UCR and it's been good. I love how they focus on mental health and really want students to succeed
I don’t go to UC Davis but it is a 20 min drive away and I’m always around the area. I’d say a good pro is everything is in walking/biking distance. I take the bus to UC Davis (it was only $1 to take the public bus idk if it’s changed recently) but after being dropped off at the campus I would just walk by to the local cafes and restaurants. Davis as a whole has a really high Asian population so if you enjoy foods like Sushi, Pho, Ramen there’s a lot of good places. I always go to get sushi at either Mikunis or Hukus Japanese Bistro.
Thank for this!! I was accepted to both UC Berkeley and UC Davis (Santa Cruz as well, but it's out of the picture) and was trying to decide between them. I think I'm going to go with Berkeley but will be touring both campuses soon so I'm excited about that!
Transferred to UCI last year out of CC and I would definitely recommend my route to everyone. It gave me more choices in terms of where I could go to school, as well as save me a lot of money, which I'm sure many of us would love. I got into Cal Econ, UCSB Econ, and UCI Business Econ. I was waitlisted to UCLA Business Econ, eventually rejected. Although I got into Berkeley under one of its most impacted majors, I did not see myself there and I hated the idea of having to sacrifice my last two years of college being stressed out by the breakneck pace of the students at the school. Like I always say to people I know, community college really gave me the confidence I needed to thrive after I transferred and I sometimes look back at the fond memories I made during my times there. Keep ya head up if you got rejected from your dream school, UCLA sure did break my heart.
Aside from the stats pesented, you have to look at the majors offered and whether or not you vibe with the campus. My daughter was accepted at UCSan Diego, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara. We re-toured some campuses after she received her acceptance letters, and for her UCSB was the clear choice.
UCSD student here, absolutely loved the experience, although it was brief, as an undergraduate as I transfered from a community College. I graduated in December 2021 with a bachelor's in science (Biochemistry), and I will be returning to campus this summer 2022 for Graduate studies (Master's in Clinical research). Great video 👏
I got rejected by UCSB, rejected by UCI, rejected by UCLA, but then UCR accepted me with honors, and finally my dreams came true when UCSD took me. Anyways hope is there and always follow your dreams.
@Katie Ellen Tu --- Agreed, especially in the Humanities classes. When I was taking STEM classes, I noticed that the students in those classes were more behaved and smarter than the Humanities majors. I would know because I was a former STEM student at UCR. Of I course, I graduated with a degree in Economics with a concentration in Mathematics in 2015 and currently work at an insurance and financial services company.
@@123ucr Wow - way to paint all non-STEM majors with the same brush. Your ego could use a check. "More the knowledge lesser the ego, lesser the knowledge more the ego." - Albert Einstein
People should not immediately reject the community college route. Did not kill it in HS because you didn't see the point? Now see the point? Go kill it in CC and the transfer rate into UCB, UCLA, UCSD, etc. is quite attractive and very doable. You see all the UCs build a very large CC transfer number into their metrics for how many freshmen to admit to allow room for the CC transfers two years later. I'm talking *thousands* of transfers from CC into each school. I'm talking about getting into UCB and UCLA whereas you couldn't get into UCI and UCSB out of HS.
Are you kidding? The transfer rate is more than attractive, if you do honors at CC then it is as high as 80%(it was like this at my CC). CC is a great way to save the money AND get a lot of prerequisites done. CC is honestly the hidden meta.
@@larrydunn4626 oh, I was trying to point out the ridiculously high transfer rates and how damn of a good deal CC is. It was not my intent to demean or slight you.
i committed to uc davis as a transfer, i wanted to stay in norcal despite getting into socal schools. it's not as highly ranked as other ucs i got into like sd etc., but i think the thing to remember is rankings are just a number (especially in undergrad). it's more important to choose a school that you'll genuinely feel happy attending. a lot of kids i went to hs went got really caught up with prestige bc we had a pressure cooker culture, but honestly, any of the ucs are great schools. sure we have high/mid/low-tier, but that's in comparison to each other. you'll still have a great education no matter which campus you pick. :)
As someone who currently goes to UCM we have so many opportunities but a con that is not mentioned is the EXTREME LACK of majors + minors. Yes we got one of the best growths, but understand you probably can't take a Greek language course. We only have 4 languages not including English, and we don't have an international studies program (I went abroad and learned about it and wow ...i wish we had this). HOWEVER being new is SO many opportunities. I could not have gotten to where I am if it weren't for Merced. The community of Merced is beautiful and the people are inspirational. I was an extremely anti-school-spirit and bad student in high school, and went from that to being an internal vice president for the student body, created my own organization, studied "abroad" in DC and interned in Congress + campaign committees, and got into a research lab. As someone who never knew the college process and was so lost in high school with zero connections (none of my friends from high school went to UCM), I would encourage people who are willing to put themselves out there to go to UCM. You will absolutely flourish. If anyone wants to know more about UCM please email me. I was the 2020-2021 Internal Vice President for student body n let you know the real deets.
I go to UC Santa Cruz and there is another way north! It’s Highway 1, which is very flat and straight and safe feeling! Also, you get used to 17. It’s not as bad as it used to be. I’ve driven it so many times now I could do it with my eyes closed (don’t drive with your eyes closed).
UCSD grad here, most amazing experience of my life!! Currently @ Hopkins for grad school and tbh I honestly miss ucsd so much & I low key wish I did grad school there. Amazing campus, amazing social life and amazing recourses. Not to mention- the beach is within walking distance😍😍😍
@@anikamalhotra9500 nah actually there are quite a lot of events and clubs. It’s def not UCSB in terms of social life or party scene, but it’s enough to make you feel welcome and make new friends
I got rejected by UCLA (not surprised), waitlisted by UCD & UCSD, but accepted by UCI! Which I was really surprised by being that UCD & UCSD have higher acceptance rates. Hoping to go to UCI in the fall
graduated from UC Davis 2020 june, and honestly the only reason for UCD to drop in ranking from being equal to UCSD is because of the whole pepper spray incident and shitty chancellor behind everything(who have been fired recently)
I personally wanted to go to UCSD and applied for UCI as an after thought. But I got waitlisted at UCSD and accepted at UCI so that's where I'm going next year. Honestly pretty excited.
This is a really good video!!! I need this to decided which UC to choose. I applied to UCLA, UC Berkeley , UCSC and UCSB. Wish I applied to UC Davis I liked their band 😅
You should make an updated version. Also tbh i consider rain good weather. Sure if it rains all the time its annoying but a little rain once a while is so nice
Wow, that was very well done. One thing to keep in mind is that "school reputation" is driven quite heavily by graduate programs, both professional and Ph.D. This is an area where UC Berkeley led UCLA by miles until the past 15 years or so, and still quite a distance now. In fact from 15 years prior to now, and going back about 40 years, Berkeley was ranked overall the top graduate University in the world across about (memory failing me here) about 20 academic disciplines. This of course means ranked over Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, etc. etc. Of course averages don't mean much when you're studying a discipline where the faculty and funding are not anywhere near the top, but reputations tend to go by averages.
Great vid! I’m a 3rd year at ucla and something I wish I would have considered more is that the school is a research university. The type of institution definitely plays a part in the experience.
Would it be possible if you could create a similar video about some of the private colleges in California? I think it would be interesting to see an introduction/breakdown of Caltech, the Claremont Colleges (Pomona, Mudd, etc.), Stanford, USC, Loyola, Occidental, Pepperdine, etc.
I am from Santa Cruz and interned at UCSC in stem building in the middle of redwood forest. The research is amazing in STEM and competes against the best. It just isn’t prestigious. Went to UCD and it was actually a ton of fun. There are always parties you can go to, but it is not a party school. For the most competitive school without the competitive feel go for UCD.
Yeah, im currently a 4th year transfer. Really big campus and has one of the friendliest professors. If you wanna know more or ask me anything about it, you can add me on discord or something.
Ngl UC Santa Cruz kind of got snubbed, it’s a good school. But it does ultimately dwindle down to your personal preference and Santa Cruz is my fave. It’s one of those schools you can’t take someone on the internet’s word for, you have to see it for yourself 👏🏻
as a ucd senior, the administration half asses things but it doesnt mean you cant find a counselor who will help you. the environment is fine but for someone from the city, the town is only 10-12 miles long and about 5-9 miles wide. its not many places to go.
i go to UC Merced and used live on campus, the cow farms may be smelly from time to time but you don't really go anywhere near that area, they may be smelly but the methane doesn't harm anyone lol. The air quality was affected the same as everywhere in Cali when the fires started.
To anyone who got into the top 3 schools and is wracking their brain on which to choose - the school's notoriety should not outweigh your mental health and ability to do well. I got into UCLA, Cal Berkeley, and SB for political science and though I should theoretically choose UCLA or Cal, it would greatly affect my overall health to go to a school so intense. Sometimes it is NOT about whether or not you can accomplish a degree from the top-rated schools but rather if it's even worth it. If you got IN, there is no doubt you will graduate. Don't let a school's reputation force you to believe you haaaave to go there, it is absolutely vital to your health and future to choose a school that makes you feel challenged WHILE ALSO feeling supported (not to say that Cal and UCLA aren't supportive but that they are (speaking from firsthand experience) truly as intense as you think they will be).
I really appreciate this! I just got accepted to Cal and UCSD and I'm torn between the two: I realize now that I feel obligated to attend Cal given its prestige but I know that the overall quality of life would be better at UCSD (coming from a Pacific Islander lol).
From a personal perspective, I've never heard anything bad about the weather at UC Merced, aside from light smoke blowing down in fire season. Most of the time, it's beautiful weather and we're out by a really pretty lake too that students can walk to and have picnics at!
As a resident of Merced county , he was referring to Merced city itself , the campus is located by a lake and has relatively good air quality , however the city does have bad air quality from time to time but the weather is still normal California weather , just really hot summers
As a California native, I would try to avoid UCs if at all possible. The UC system has a lot of issues, and the amount of applicants that they get just enables them. Issues include mis-handling of student protests ( UC Davis pepper spray incident), to abusing adjunct professors by paying them nothing, to break housing not being a thing on most campuses. Depending on your major as well, I would be weary to apply to these schools since it would take a few semesters to let you take any of your major specific courses. Im not saying don’t apply, but I am saying each campus has its own issues
I graduated from UCI & generally found it hyper competitive . Unlike other unis Ive attended, there was clearly an adversarial relationship between the faculty & the students. Personally I would pick USC, Pepperdine, or SLO.
UCLA is awesome and as a transfer there's a huge community. That said, housing is terrible in the midst of Covid. Lease prices have skyrocketed and the college won't guarantee any upperclassman housing :(
A few more things on merced, the 'aesthetic' buildings all have dirty windows because no one cleans the outside, there are ugly exposed and patchy rebar holes in all of the concrete, and almost every building being exposed concrete really gets demoralizing. Also the food should be listed as a con because the food provided in the pavillion is so ass I wouldn't give it to max security prisoner.
If it makes you feel better, I was in the same position last year and went to UCR. I was disappointed at first but realized their BCOE program is actually really solid. Plus, it's not about what school you go to, but how much effort you put in it.
I know this was written a month ago, but I hope you got in! I remember feeling exactly how you felt. UCI was my top choice & by the Grace of God, I’m graduating this spring with a B.A in both Public Health & Anthropology! I applied as a transfer to UCI, UCSD, UCR, and UCSB. I was accepted everywhere except UCSB. I hope everything works out for you!💙💛
I just realized I got into all of the B-tier schools, that’s kinda funny. I was waitlisted at LA, but tbh I’m happy with the ones I got into. I also got waitlisted at Cornell, so lines up in rankings I suppose. I’m not even upset at not getting into my top schools, I’m starting to realize it doesn’t matter that much to me and I think being waitlisted at them was enough to be uplifting. I’m not even sure why I’m watching this when I already chose one, but its still nice to see, and its very thorough!
@@aure3614 San Diego, my major is bio related and it seemed like the most logical choice. Among a bunch of other things which I don’t feel like listing 😅
My dream school was UCLA, I live in LA... Therefore, I took the "guarantee" route... Out of all my classmate I was the one of two to go to UCLA except that I transferred from my local City College... There must have been close to 20 from my school that applied and didn't get in ..Plus both at CC AND UCLA completely FREE for me
If there's anything I missed, please let me know! Thank you for watching~
Whether you choose to apply (or not), anyone who applies to a UC School is also automatically applied to UC Merced.
I did not know that. Thank you for sharing!
I think if you maintain a great GPA in high school and participate in extracurricular activities, you’ll be in a good spot!
@@VictorLai thanks
Needed to hear this. Thank you! :)
that’s amazing! i’m waiting to hear back from the UCs, i hope i get into cal!
@maya Thank you! All the best with everything!
@@SCBrayden All the best!
@@theblackhood4812 I GOT IN!! AND GOT A $15,000 SCHOLARSHIP!!!
to any high school seniors bummed out about their decision results: dont be afraid of community colleges! there’s a stigma against CCs.. but if I could go back in time to choose between university or CC, I’d choose community all over again. i hated it at first but only because i pressured myself into feeling like i should have gone to a CSU or UC. there’s no wrong path! it doesn’t matter how long you take.
That's a great message, thank you for sharing!
Oh, I more or less duplicated some of your thoughts above not having read yours. Obviously I agree completely with your thoughts.
The cc system is amazing if you put the work in. I came back to school at the age of 28, worked my ass off, and got into UCLA. I was also accepted into UCB, UCSD, UCSB.
Couldn’t agree more! I transferred last year to UCLA but got into Berkeley, UCD, and UCSD as well!
@@Cookierocky1005 What CC did you attend? I'm a senior this year looking into CC and then transferring over to save money, so I was wondering what a good CC would be
idk why i'm watching this i'm literally a 4th year at ucsd about to go into grad school but nice vid!
is it as boring as people make it seem??

"stroll among the redwoods"?... some parents get LOST among the redwoods just trying to get from one part of campus to another.
@@wonderkorbo No, you're slept on because at one point in time, grades were not given. I think that was a long time ago, but that absolutely KILLED UCSC's academic reputation at the time. Nobody took a school seriously that didn't hand out grades.

Zot Zot Zot!
It depends on the person but I find UCSC to be a great school myself I am in the MCD Biology program.
How did you transfer to UCSD after getting rejected?
@@mr.awesome5619 idk certain schools are definitely better suited for certain people, but personally I love ucsc. Im a computer science major and the experience has been nothing but amazing so far. Some great professors/connections, and the area is beautiful.

Anyway, wishing you the best on college decisions 🥰
Berkeley isn’t the safest place in the world, but I’m from the Bay Area and it’s not significantly more dangerous than any other bigger city here. Tech wise tho, like you mentioned, I’d agree, I didn’t know very many folks who were in that sector
I’d also say it’s not as quiet as you’d think. Davis has a fun small townish vibe with weekend farmers markets that people love, but also if you were into frat life those day parties existed too.
UC Merced will have a Medical school joint with UC Davis. This pandemic made me unfocused so haven’t catch up with the latest.
I’m planning to attend UCD in the fall so this is good to know!!
graduating from uc davis in spring and i agree with all your points! the agriculture and vet facilities are world-class and even if you’re not in those majors you can take cool classes like wine and beer making, if you like the small-town feel also i would recommend to come here, it’s close enough to sacramento and sf that you aren’t in the middle of nowhere but it’s a nice chance of pace imo :)
Congrats ! I graduate from UCD this coming fall
I'm a first year and yes I definitely agree on the small town feel. Coming from a small town, it wasn't overwhelming and it feels safe to walk/bike around the town as it is a college town!
i graduated in 2018! i loved davis so much
I’m a UCSD grad; double-majored in math & computer science.
I’m graduating in a week from ucsb. You’re gonna have a lot of fun but don’t be slacking academically. LOTS of studying
Go Gauchos! I graduated in 2019 and gave me the best 3 years of my life!
I’m deciding between UC Davis and UCSB, how has your experience been attending the latter?
i got accepted to ucla and berkeley but ended up going to santa cruz because they were giving me a full ride, and im super happy i did. the campus is beautiful, but the best part for me is the relationships you get to forge with your professors. ive been given so many research opportunities that i know i wouldnt have gotten had i gone to a bigger school like ucla.

Edit Update: Waitlist at UCSD omllll YAYYYYYY it was like a 5% acceptance rate this year... 118000 students applied and only 6200 got in. The fact I was even considered is a celebration within itself haha
Edit: UCLA rejected haha was expecting it so all good
Y’all if you got rejected from your dream schools, just know we are all in this together. The college admissions is a total crapshoot and if you’re lucky, you’re lucky there’s nothing you can really do about it. This year has been crazy for all of us and it’s even worse because it’s more people than normal applying. Wherever you go I’m sure you’ll be happy! Prestige doesn’t decide your worth!

if you get in at UCSB, come. will be the best decision you ever made.

Sending luck from UCLA!
UCR is actually a decent school. I’m on my fourth year and I’m actually set to graduate a quarter early! Definitely a good school and I think eventually it’ll rise even higher!
Hey! I plan to go to UCR, and i was wondering what you have to pay after you finish?
I mean, Santa Cruz definitely got the most culture, i can say that. Loved my experience there. Being from SoCal(SB area), i can definitely say that the open-minded atmosphere, living in the forest, and having hella hiking/beaches within a 2 -mile radius made my college experience much more laid back and memorable. Going to grad school and looking back, i definitely feel like the small class sizes really gave me a chance to connect with professors, which got me into research and letters of recs, etc.
Idk, overall, rankings are a pretty antiquated way at looking at college lol
Definitely go where you feel you belong and where you can be yourself.
Psych is excellent there too, I think he’s underrating the college overall
This! Especially when looking at their cog sci ranking too, they are right up there with UC Berkeley. It definitely bleeds into their psych program and they offer a combined major
Yeah, most of the departments in PBSci are very esteemed. (I am unfamiliar with departments outside of PBSci. Not saying they aren't esteemed, just saying I do not know)
Astrophysics as well!
Lol there is no medical school in place at uc merced, we’re actually barely working towards it we’re about sustainability and robotics at the moment
love this! esp as a UCD alumni! I agree with UCD having unique majors, mine was Wildlife, Fish, & Conservation Biology
Are the women beautiful at UCSB ? I've never been there
I went to UCSD thinking "ehh it's not Berkeley or UCLA".
The dining halls became so crowded at lunch time that I would either get food elsewhere or eat lunch at a different time.
uc riverside representtt!
Yea highlanders!
UCR 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Go Highlanders!!
UCR Class of 2015. I graduated with a degree in Economics with a concentration in Mathematics. My top choice UC's though were UC Santa Cruz and UC Santa Barbara. Of course, I was rejected by UCSB and waitlisted and then rejected by UCSC.
As a transfer student, this video was super helpful! Thank you for sharing!
As an incoming freshman you have no idea how extremely helpful this video has been!! Thank you so so much!
Will be sharing the link!
Someone correct me if I’m wrong though.
thats why I think I should go there instead of UCLA or Berkley...its just that it has a low rank
Really enjoyed this video. Would love to see you do one on the Cal state schools !
Will definitely consider!
Honestly didn’t know how good UCLA was until watching this video and reading a bit more about it. Wish me luck y’all, I got accepted into UCLA for human bio and I’m nervous about moving away from family
I just got admitted for that too at UCLA!! Congratulations :)
Everyone is nervous, join the crowd. You'll be fine. Congrats.
Hope to see you in the fall! I'm an astrophysics major ✨
As an HBS major at UCLA, dont sweat it so much! It's tough in the beginning but there's so many people here to help you. You're not alone- remember that!
Just got into UCLA myself! Super excited. How’s your experience been?
UCI is in Orange County next to tons of beautiful beaches and hiking locations and there is an amtrak to LA as well as Disney Land... I wouldn't say there isn't much to do 😜. Even without a car, the coastline is like 5 miles from the campus which is an easy bike ride.
Yeah I think he’s saying if you don’t have a vehicle but there’s always transportation
You're right though... if you come here expect to live in a double or a triple unless you have a good amount of money.
lets go gauchos
What were ur stats that got u in?
@@KimTaehyung-rt3mw I had like a 3.3 transfer gpa with all the prerequisite courses completed, didn't apply to Berkeley or LA but got into the rest
@@TheChargersfan23 you had a 3.3? I thought in order to get into ucs u need above a 3.5. Also what colleges did you apply to?
My daughter’s friend appeal and got in.
I have siblings who are graduate of UCLA and UCB.
This May 2021 I have my oldest who is graduating from UCM.
Your voice is so relaxing. I’m already a UCLA grad but stuck around because of your ASMR voice aesthetic 😌
Expect corresponding attitudes and levels of courtesy from potential future roommates.
wow! i loved this!! super informative as someone who is awaiting my UC decisions. i'd love to see a video like this but for the ivy league!
That’d be a good idea!
I graduated UC Davis 5 years ago, and still can not get over how amazing it is.
Did anyone here go to UC Riverside? I’m going to go there in the fall and I’d like to hear about your experience?
I'm a first year there right now, and honestly even though I've been fully remote I've already grown quite attached :)
@@StarJester that’s awesome! What is your major, if you don’t mind me asking?
I graduated from UCR a few years back
i love uc riverside so far, im a first year, and they have some really dope programs and clubs.
UC Riverside once had a 85% acceptance rate for fall 2001 applicants at its final year. 2.50 high school GPA was okay.
Hows it going? I got accepted and thinking of attending in the fall!
@@jessygarcia2642 it’s going really good! I honestly recommend it! I don’t really have friends but I enjoy my classes and think it’s a great school
GO BEARS
@@uzaxna72 yesss go bears!! So excited to be Berkeley 2026 :)
Keep ya head up if you got rejected from your dream school, UCLA sure did break my heart.
how is Uci?
Aside from the stats pesented, you have to look at the majors offered and whether or not you vibe with the campus. My daughter was accepted at UCSan Diego, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara. We re-toured some campuses after she received her acceptance letters, and for her UCSB was the clear choice.
I literally got into Davis, and this is the first thing I see on my recommended ! This is so wacky
@Katie Ellen Tu
Why the need to find fault with another individual's dream? That says more about you than it does him.
@@123ucr
Wow - way to paint all non-STEM majors with the same brush. Your ego could use a check.

@@survivingucsbecon664 It seems we are saying essentially the same thing, so I don't understand the "Are you kidding" intro to your remarks.
@@larrydunn4626 oh, I was trying to point out the ridiculously high transfer rates and how damn of a good deal CC is. It was not my intent to demean or slight you.
why am I even watching this all I'm getting are waitlist decisions for the UCs
@Katie Ellen Tu girl what-
@Katie Ellen Tu you’re talking about how someone is better off with ‘no degree’ on a college video. you sound like a psychopath. get some help, katie.
i committed to uc davis as a transfer, i wanted to stay in norcal despite getting into socal schools. it's not as highly ranked as other ucs i got into like sd etc., but i think the thing to remember is rankings are just a number (especially in undergrad). it's more important to choose a school that you'll genuinely feel happy attending.
a lot of kids i went to hs went got really caught up with prestige bc we had a pressure cooker culture, but honestly, any of the ucs are great schools. sure we have high/mid/low-tier, but that's in comparison to each other. you'll still have a great education no matter which campus you pick. :)
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
SoCal is better :)
Loved how informative this video is! I'm super excited to be attending UCLA in the fall!
As an irvine local, it is a family city, but there are things to do, there is a waterpark in Irvine, and many things to do in Irvine spectrum
UCSD grad here, most amazing experience of my life!! Currently @ Hopkins for grad school and tbh I honestly miss ucsd so much & I low key wish I did grad school there. Amazing campus, amazing social life and amazing recourses. Not to mention- the beach is within walking distance😍😍😍

ayyyy same thing
graduated from UC Davis 2020 june, and honestly the only reason for UCD to drop in ranking from being equal to UCSD is because of the whole pepper spray incident and shitty chancellor behind everything(who have been fired recently)

Honestly pretty excited.
That's where I think I'm going too. Nervous but curious
This is a really good video!!! I need this to decided which UC to choose. I applied to UCLA, UC Berkeley , UCSC and UCSB. Wish I applied to UC Davis I liked their band 😅
SAME APPLICATION!!! With that, I also applied to UC Merced. UC Berkeley is my favorite :)
Got accepted into UCI, UCSB, and UCR. Rejected from UCLA but I saw that one coming. Thanks for the info!
may i ask what your stats are or extracurriculars? (you don’t need to reply if it’s too personal)
Same here
Any UCR students here? Can you guys throw some light on the campus life and stuff 😂
I got into UCR for masters so it will be really helpful!!
Yeah, im currently a 4th year transfer. Really big campus and has one of the friendliest professors. If you wanna know more or ask me anything about it, you can add me on discord or something.

as a ucd senior, the administration half asses things but it doesnt mean you cant find a counselor who will help you. the environment is fine but for someone from the city, the town is only 10-12 miles long and about 5-9 miles wide. its not many places to go.
i go to UC Merced and used live on campus, the cow farms may be smelly from time to time but you don't really go anywhere near that area, they may be smelly but the methane doesn't harm anyone lol.

Got rejected by all of them except Berkeley which is weird but I will super gladly take it
Thanks Victor. You did a great job on putting this and the other video I saw on Davis together. Thank you!
It may be c tier but the santa cruz campus is beautiful, it is the nicest looking University ive ever been to
From a personal perspective, I've never heard anything bad about the weather at UC Merced, aside from light smoke blowing down in fire season.
Come to UCSB!!! I just graduated from there it’s amazing
I just want to say I can tell how much work went into this. It was great!!
If I'm there to fucking study why tf would I go to protests???
I graduated from UCI & generally found it hyper competitive . Unlike other unis Ive attended, there was clearly an adversarial relationship between the faculty & the students. Personally I would pick USC, Pepperdine, or SLO.
UCLA is awesome and as a transfer there's a huge community. That said, housing is terrible in the midst of Covid. Lease prices have skyrocketed and the college won't guarantee any upperclassman housing :(
Yep! UCLA really screwed us current 1st year transfers over
A few more things on merced, the 'aesthetic' buildings all have dirty windows because no one cleans the outside, there are ugly exposed and patchy rebar holes in all of the concrete, and almost every building being exposed concrete really gets demoralizing. Also the food should be listed as a con because the food provided in the pavillion is so ass I wouldn't give it to max security prisoner.
I just really wanna go to UCI 🥺🥺 universe pleaseeee make it work out for me

omg best of luck! I applied to uci as a transfer as well.. we're actually supposed to receive our decision letters on april 9th!
