It's very interesting to see this and the heights that you've taken it. Coming from the Space Sim and FPS background, I was at a weird crossroad when I started playing Star Citizen 3-4 years ago. I was so used to M+KB for everything, yet, I couldn't get the precise flight characteristics I wanted from that. Dual flightsticks was the norm, and while I loved the idea, it was pricey and not space efficient for my apartment. I also heard that some of the most skilled pvp pilots flew M+KB. But SC supported simultaneous input, and that's when I decided to use a mouse for aiming, but a flightstick for my other controls (HOSAM). It even has an analog thumb stick I have bound for walking in first person! The setup is so convenient, accessible, and yet potent I haven't thought about going dual stick. Initially I was skeptical of this game pad, considered it only for mmo type games, but seeing you take it to a new height with competitive shooters, well, now I'm very interested in it again.

Oh god I see what's going on with the Orbital Straif. In effect, it's just a regular airstraifing, but you're removing the middle man, which is the mouse, by using a Joystick instead of a Mouse. As the purpouse of turning the mouse is to produce that smooth gradual change in direction, like that of a *_Joystick_* , something the keyboard can't produce dues to being limited by 8 direction. With a Joystick, you natrually produce this smoothness, so the whole moving your mouse to airstraife is redundant, and like you showed, frees up your mouse to, you know, aim at the enemy gamer. Now you still need to pay atention to where you're moving to airstraif properly, the basic rules still apply even if you don't need the mouse anymore, so it's not like you can helicopter around and avoid all airshots, or spin the joystick around to acheive infinite speed, but the fact stands that you're going to have a leg up against those who doesn't have a Joystick + Mouse combo. Even without airstrafing there's a decent amount of advantage to having better mobility than Keyboard players.
As casual mobile player for most fps games for mostly performance and convenience, I really like the stick style movement. You can still walk slowly and quickly at any direction without the need of extra buttons, giving you more screen room and making something like walking or strafing an easier habit then if you had a button to run and a dpad to strafe, already using 2 fingers to utilize out of your 4+ finger grip.
Small correction on the "why controller input is considered inferior" section: In Apex in particular, most of the high-level movement techs rely on a game mechanic known as "lurch," which is only applied when using a keyboard for movement. Most movement techs are physically impossible to perform with an analogue stick, simply because the game behaves fundamentally differently when using analogue movement inputs as opposed to digital ones.
is this really true though? how did the old movement configs work that roller players were using and how are some of them able to tap strafe with just a controller? i mention that it's a limitation of binds because i thought it was more about how it's physically not possible to input that many lurch inputs during the window without a scroll wheel or something similar, rather than the game handling analog input fundamentally differently
I don't know if all config users did this, but I know some would map their controller inputs to keyboard inputs and then use configs to do things like tap strafe or neo strafe.
@@pinguefy they would use Steam configs to make their controller send WASD, which would then get lurched. Apex recently patched this to disable lurch entirely when controller input of any kind is registering afaik
My reaction to this was "Oh my god, a keyboard with an analog stick that fits on the hand? I am interested!" Then I saw the price, lol. Anyways, good video! Nice to see pinguefy back.

We have now broken past the skill ceiling with different hardware. The over-competitiveness of gaming culture is ruining the fun of games for everybody else, but I bet you get to have fun.
No way bro, gaming culture has always been this way and this aspect of it has always been fun unless you prefer stagnation over progression. EOMM is what's ruining the fun and making you feel like it's overly competitive. It's artificial. Instead of fair matches, you're getting matched up by an algorithm designed to keep everyone playing the longest. That means you're the stomper when the algorithm is worried you'll quit after another bad game, and the stompee when the algorithm needs to let someone else win.

That snap at 6:50 looks like blatant aimbot. Your hand comes to a stop while the crosshair is to the left of the enemy, and while you're not moving your hand it bounces back and snaps onto the enemy. Micro adjustments like that are not possible, not to mention the way it snaps when watching frame by frame. The device seems interesting, though.
thank you for the compliment haha i'm using an hsk pro (tiny 24g fingertip mouse) which allows me to microadjust making tiny movements with my fingers. it's also funny you pick that clip because i was using my desk as a mousepad, with two ceramic skates and two sapphire watch lenses as skates LMAO
@@pinguefy Yeah, I don't know. I instantly paused when I saw that and had to go frame by frame because my CS Overwatch sense started tingling, looked very typical even at normal speed. Crazy snap if legit though.
You're correct. I've looked at this video for about 30 minutes to try to justify some of the things that are easily detectable, and while some of them you could say "sure maybe," there are clear cases where it's simply not human behavior. Especially given that there are comparators in the same video montage from game to game where natural aim is occurring and also that there are hand cams at times where the synchronization between the movements is completely desynced with what is happening in game. Not at a level that would be explainable through latency differences because "streaming" or whatever would cause the discrepancy.

THANK YOU. I recently bought pc last month and I never play M&C and was really struggling with the key board so I’ve been holding a controller in one hand and it actually feels really nice. The price tag is what really didn’t want to spend that without knowing these exact types of things. Great video!
Thanks for showcasing this, it caught my attention a while ago. Love the fact you're an actually good FPS player and showed the new advanced movement possibilities. I considered this because of the idea of being able to naturally counterstrafe diagonal movements in CS, but being able to keep aim tracking while air strafing is enormous. I probably would have loved this for Chivalry 1, there was a controller player who was able to sprint nearly sideways.
I recall trying to play L4D2 with an Xbox controller in my let hand and a mouse in my right eons ago. I didn't play a lot with this setup, as I did it as a proof of concept and that it was one of my first games I spent time on learning to play the 'superior and prolific m&kb'. I merely proved that my accuracy was the same as with a controller, but I was 20% faster with a mouse, and that you can change the controls in L4D2 to support mouse, keyboard, and controller simultaneously via a manually-edited .ini file. But this video is the natural evolution of the that rabbit hole I glanced down and didn't spend the time exploring, despite my desires. It kinda makes me regret not going ham on games I enjoyed to make that control scheme work. I might get that keyboard myself, now.
my man u are insane. this is the first vid i watched (i think) and ur destroying ppl on some foreign alien keyboard thing. Keep up the good work. I wish i could have ur aim (withought practice tho)
I've been dying for somebody to make this video for years. You hit all the points so well and TF2 is perfect for showcasing why this can be so effective, even if you don't need the extra buttons. I've just bought an Azeron specifically for Deadlock--I have a feeling Deadlock's movement tech + need for many buttons will make it shine
i love seeing weird experimental playstyles, but this one really has so much potential, it's literally the best of both worlds while not having too much of a learning curve. also would love to see more people experiment with analog keyboards for controller-like inputs in specific games, i'd imagine thats more practical for many other games, as compared to an entirely new keypad (tho analog functionality with keyboards seem to be pretty controversial in competitive play? still think its rly cool) also welcome back after 2 years wow its been a while
I used my first gen for about 2 years until the keys started to malfunction, it's a 3d printed lativian product so not bad for how much use I used it during its lifespan. Honestly I would highly recommend, I mainly used it for fortnite where it really shines with how many binds there are and the advantages of analog movement. Not only did it present some major advantages but it really is a new way to play, it's a learning curve but the new options it presents are a lot of fun to figure out in a game you think you already know
Loved when you were talking about movement on controller in fps games showing melee gameplay. I never thought of the similarities of inputs between movement shooters and melee but I think it’s a really apt comparison.
The biggest advantage, imo, is being able to use all 4 of your other fingers for buttons without compromising your movement. Leaning with Q and E in milsim shooters is SO much more usable and intuitive when you don't have to do the awkward fat finger strafe to use it. Not to mention games that have driving in them are suddenly playable with a mouse and keyboard without any compromise. If you combine a foot pedal controller for analog trigger control, you've basically got a perfect one-size-fits all setup for literally anything other than flight sim games and games where you've gotta map controller to keyboard or via-versa because it'll only use one at a time.
good to see u back goat. glad you’re doing better enough to make vids again. I know its been brought up a couple of times but I’d love to hear your thoughts if you ever try out gyro controls, even if its just like a community post saying “I think gyro is stinky”
Damn I just came across you annotating an aim theory video a couple weeks ago and then this comes out now. Glad this still popped on my feed after all this time.
Gen X here, so arcade joysticks make a lot more sense to my brain. I started playing TF2 almost a year ago and hated using a keyboard for movement, so I built a joystick setup using a cheap stick with a trigger and a top button. While I was way smoother at movement, it was far too slow to transition a whole hand around for strafing. So, i found a usb adapter for the Wii nunchuk. The nunchuk for movement with the two buttons for jumping and crouching is an absolute dream. Now, if I could just get gud.
I've been wanting this for a long time - something that would allow target tracking in Quake without sacrificing movement options and speed. I love the feeling of Quake's movement system, so it's a bummer that while in a fight you often just end up strafing and doing simple jumps. God willing, if/when console gaming merge with PC gaming, the analog stick will become a semi-standard PC input device.
All around an amazing video!!! My only concern now is that I have to keep in mind the rare case of a player using an Azeron compact vs a potential cheaters using a strafe cheat. I'm so use to determining a cheater on previous interactions and patterns that doing the "Impossible Strafe" (in my opinion) was only utilized by a cheater making use of cheat software (possible w/ binds but not likely to used by regular players).
i hope more people came and saw it, its truly an interesting subject since the major pc is keyboard input and its literally a rare/niche subject preference.

Most movement techs are physically impossible to perform with an analogue stick, simply because the game behaves fundamentally differently when using analogue movement inputs as opposed to digital ones.
roller players are sleeping on the foot pedals for mashing out W inputs,,
is this really true though? how did the old movement configs work that roller players were using and how are some of them able to tap strafe with just a controller? i mention that it's a limitation of binds because i thought it was more about how it's physically not possible to input that many lurch inputs during the window without a scroll wheel or something similar, rather than the game handling analog input fundamentally differently
I don't know if all config users did this, but I know some would map their controller inputs to keyboard inputs and then use configs to do things like tap strafe or neo strafe.
Lurches *are* doable on controller, but you need a VERY fast flick. With this having bindable keys though... Lurch away.
@@pinguefy they would use Steam configs to make their controller send WASD, which would then get lurched. Apex recently patched this to disable lurch entirely when controller input of any kind is registering afaik
My reaction to this was "Oh my god, a keyboard with an analog stick that fits on the hand? I am interested!"
Then I saw the price, lol. Anyways, good video! Nice to see pinguefy back.
LOL there are other options you could go for like the razer tartarus, thank u :D
@@pinguefy FYI the "stick" on the tararus is actually a d-pad, essentially.
@@colbyboucher6391 noooo, say it ain't so :( tysm for this info i have been giving a lot of bad recs then, appreciate it a lot!!
@@pinguefy Thanks king, good to know you're willing to correct yourself. By the way, have you heard about this book, "Ultralearning"? Sounds somewhat like what you do to an extent. You should check it out! It's by Scott Young.
@@aleks4431 thanks for the rec i'll have a look!
@@elibeeblebrox1084 Getting shit on by somebody doing shit I’ve never seen before by using different hardware than me is NOT FUN, except watching the video over again I’ve come to the conclusion that I could easily beat anybody playing like this
Dude I’m honestly your biggest fan man I’ve missed you so much. I grew up on your content. I appreciate you uploading I haven’t even realized till now cause TH-cam didn’t even show me your video. Thankyou so much for all the amazing content you make. I appreciate the thought process that you put into your videos.
tysm :>
that source movement is crazy, +strafe turns without having to give up aiming is pretty huge
The device seems interesting, though.
thank you for the compliment haha
i'm using an hsk pro (tiny 24g fingertip mouse) which allows me to microadjust making tiny movements with my fingers.
it's also funny you pick that clip because i was using my desk as a mousepad, with two ceramic skates and two sapphire watch lenses as skates LMAO
actually in that case it might just be the bounciness resulting from trying to stop a very fast flick with a bit of tension
@@pinguefy Yeah, I don't know. I instantly paused when I saw that and had to go frame by frame because my CS Overwatch sense started tingling, looked very typical even at normal speed. Crazy snap if legit though.
@@SN-eb4hk thank u :> sometimes u just send em where you think you're getting shot from and get lucky in that game haha
Not at a level that would be explainable through latency differences because "streaming" or whatever would cause the discrepancy.

hoooooooly i just decided to check back up on you because i saw a video of yours in my watch later list and daaaaamn i can't believe it's been 2 years. I always loved watching your videos. Nice to see you're doing good.
Fascinating and well made video as always, you never miss
first video of yours that ive watched, and man is it a really good one. i dont even play fps games but the way you explain it is so engaging and accessible along with the editing going crazy. definitely looking forward to whats next
tysm!!
glad to see you back! I came about your channel because of split keyboards, now I stick around because your content is well crafted
take your time
GUNDAM EVOLUTION MENTIONED. BIG W. Fun fact, since you've last uploaded, I took my entrance exams and got into medical school, so its wild to see you upload again. Cheers from an M1
Was just checking your channel recently after seeing you credited in the description of viscose’s latest video. Happy to see that you’re back
:D
THANK YOU. I recently bought pc last month and I never play M&C and was really struggling with the key board so I’ve been holding a controller in one hand and it actually feels really nice. The price tag is what really didn’t want to spend that without knowing these exact types of things. Great video!
np! you could also look into the maxxstick if you are interested in only the analog side of the device
I probably would have loved this for Chivalry 1, there was a controller player who was able to sprint nearly sideways.
that's so cool!! i used to love chiv 1 haha
Congrats! I bought one of these a few years ago but I couldn't adapt to it so now it sits on my shelf as a conversation piece.
happy to have you back man. hope things have been good in your life :)
I might get that keyboard myself, now.
it's finally here! i'm glad you're feeling better, well done
thank u, wouldn't have happened without u ^^
I was thinking about this channel recently 🥹 so happy you’re back.
Another Banger! I love your work and I'm so glad you're back.
my man u are insane. this is the first vid i watched (i think) and ur destroying ppl on some foreign alien keyboard thing. Keep up the good work. I wish i could have ur aim (withought practice tho)
I was thinking about your channel just the other day! Good to see you back
WE SO BACKKKKKK!!!! I keep checking in every month or so and you FINALLY UPLOADED LESGOOO
I swear, the best kind of youtube videos come from your channel. Educational/Interesting plus awesome clips! Keep uploading man!
thank you!
Glad to see you back 💖
You genuinely make some of the greatest videos on this platform :)
aw thank u c:

HOLY SHIT HE'S BACK! I LITERALLY CHECKED YOUR CHANNEL A FEW DAYS AGO WONDERING WHERE YOU'VE BEEN
Another great video, glad to see you back after 2 DARN years
bro holy shit its been two years. glad you back man
i love seeing weird experimental playstyles, but this one really has so much potential, it's literally the best of both worlds while not having too much of a learning curve.
also would love to see more people experiment with analog keyboards for controller-like inputs in specific games, i'd imagine thats more practical for many other games, as compared to an entirely new keypad (tho analog functionality with keyboards seem to be pretty controversial in competitive play? still think its rly cool)
also welcome back after 2 years wow its been a while
Welcome back! Your soothing voice informing me of cool keyboards and movement shooter tech is exactly what I need to end my day
Happy to see you post again, welcome back!!

Not only did it present some major advantages but it really is a new way to play, it's a learning curve but the new options it presents are a lot of fun to figure out in a game you think you already know
HES BACK
I remember your video about the split keyboard and the rhythmic typing montage that pulled me in. Loved your videos ever since Kovaak!
tysm :>
My goat has returned! You inspired me to constantly want to improve with your kovaaks video a while back. I hope you are doing well.
you're my idol.
thank you for making another video
Nice to have you back
Loved when you were talking about movement on controller in fps games showing melee gameplay. I never thought of the similarities of inputs between movement shooters and melee but I think it’s a really apt comparison.
you know this one’s been cooking for a while when it’s using clips from that gundam fps
i literally don’t play fps games like at all but your editing is so good that I honestly enjoyed this video a lot
Super interesting video awesome work man ! And thank you so much for the music discovery I'm IN LOVE With Thorn to Liver !!
heck yeah :D
The biggest advantage, imo, is being able to use all 4 of your other fingers for buttons without compromising your movement.
Leaning with Q and E in milsim shooters is SO much more usable and intuitive when you don't have to do the awkward fat finger strafe to use it.
Not to mention games that have driving in them are suddenly playable with a mouse and keyboard without any compromise. If you combine a foot pedal controller for analog trigger control, you've basically got a perfect one-size-fits all setup for literally anything other than flight sim games and games where you've gotta map controller to keyboard or via-versa because it'll only use one at a time.
true! i should've made mention of this, it is a big reason why it feels so freeing
good to see u back goat. glad you’re doing better enough to make vids again. I know its been brought up a couple of times but I’d love to hear your thoughts if you ever try out gyro controls, even if its just like a community post saying “I think gyro is stinky”
Damn I just came across you annotating an aim theory video a couple weeks ago and then this comes out now. Glad this still popped on my feed after all this time.
always nice to see another pinguefy upload
Gen X here, so arcade joysticks make a lot more sense to my brain. I started playing TF2 almost a year ago and hated using a keyboard for movement, so I built a joystick setup using a cheap stick with a trigger and a top button. While I was way smoother at movement, it was far too slow to transition a whole hand around for strafing. So, i found a usb adapter for the Wii nunchuk. The nunchuk for movement with the two buttons for jumping and crouching is an absolute dream. Now, if I could just get gud.
Awesome video & thanks for linking the music bro! Hold On You is an amazing song!
for suree
amazing video! so good to see you creating some more
Oh hey welcome back!! Glad you’re back
I've been wanting this for a long time - something that would allow target tracking in Quake without sacrificing movement options and speed. I love the feeling of Quake's movement system, so it's a bummer that while in a fight you often just end up strafing and doing simple jumps.
God willing, if/when console gaming merge with PC gaming, the analog stick will become a semi-standard PC input device.
I was about to cry im so glad ur back
All around an amazing video!!!
BRO I REMEMBER WATCHING YOU AGES AGO, WELCOME BAAAAACK
