Garden room rubber roof, fascia and soffit installation with a grass roof.

  • We are fitting the rubber roof on this one. It wasn't cold enough to be a worry due to the water based glue freezing so ploughed on!
    We also fit black soffit and fascia, and I've tried to give you as much detail as possible.
    We are constantly looking for new ways to enhance or modify our builds and on this one we decided artificial turf was the way to go.
    I think this will be a common extra from now on.

    TBH a garden room isn’t in my plans, but honestly, I could watch you all day - love your presenting style, and so informative, not only explaining procedures but also why you choose to do it in certain ways ........, just wish I could afford ya ;-) then again, wish I had a garden half as big as some of your customers. Deserve all the success this years gonna bring for ya

    The astro turf looks really good. Great job on the join and the trims. The only risky side is the gutter side but I guess you dont see it much. maybe the mechanically fixed gutter trim would be better in turf cases. Maybe you should make a mock up of both and see which comes out better.
    The grass does add a decent amount of weight to the roof and if its near trees that drop leaves it will have to be cleared as it leads to some growth in the debris and mould. Hopefully you wont have to clear animal droppings from it either! b Normally when it rains the grass drainholes feed straight into the ground. I'm not sure they would work too well here and the volume of water would just surface drain. The pitch of the roof may have to be steeper to encourage the flow of water. The grass can retain a lot of water if it doesn't go anywhere fast.

    This is your best video yet. The detail you go into in this one, with the examples and explanations, is exactly what I was after. How things look, why they're done that way, the closeups etc. I'm doing my own one and this video has gone into my watch later list. Much appreciated!
    I'm doing a warm roof but will now try an artificial grass roof top layer too. Will look good from the house at the end of the garden... but gotta try and keep neighbours happy...

    • @klaeLIFE
      @klaeLIFE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm considering the same. I have a warm roof design but I'm not sure I can get away with the extra height. I might only have 15mm to play with. I might have to shave down the grass around the edge so it doesn't push the trim up!

    • @jp6975
      @jp6975 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@klaeLIFE if you're doing a watm roof then have you gone through planning? If not, how have you managed to fit a warm roof within the 2.5m limit while keeping decent head-height internally? I couldn't make it work so have gone for planning for a 2.8m height

    • @klaeLIFE
      @klaeLIFE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jp6975 I put in an insulated concrete base that sits 25mm above the ground. The ground is getting 35mm artificial grass So when measured it's actually 2.5m from my concrete base upwards. It means I save the airflow gap beneath and the timber base in thickness. This allows me to have 120mm rafters, egger protect 22mm sub deck, vapour barrier, 90mm roof insulation, 18mm tg osb roof board and rubber with trims. I get a 2.1m internal height and a full warm roof. I can have spot bulbs without ruining the vapour barrier or insulation and I can freely run wires through the roof and down the walls. Works out to be bigger fascia though

    • @jp6975
      @jp6975 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@klaeLIFE I see. My slab is already there so I'm building the blockwork on top. I lose the 1st 150mm to encapsulate the DPM, DPC and 120mm PIR. Have to use 2x9s for the roof joists as I'll rip them to have 'inbuilt' firrings (rather than add them on) and maintain the min 120mm on the blockwork according to the span tables. Other than that I have the same except 100m PIR on the roof.

    • @klaeLIFE
      @klaeLIFE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jp6975 thenknly reason I went for 90mm was because the framework around the roof to hold in the PIR is 45mm thick x 70mm wide. Itbwas the only readily available size I could source in a continuous length. I plan to build a surround using two timbers to give me the 90mm. If I could have got 50mm I would have used that and went 100mm. I reckon a warm 90mm roof would better than a cold or hybrid 100mm roof.

      @@klaeLIFE not all artificial grass requires a sand infill

    • @klaeLIFE
      @klaeLIFE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that but one of the advantages of sand infill is weight to keep the grass down in wind. If you are not removing the trims you are relying only on the glue. The amount of glue used here is way lower than is recommended for even a ground installation. NeoGrass have a good guide online and them recommend almost 300mm of glue around the edge with no gaps. That would be floor drainage. On a roof you would leave gaps at the gutter end
