- How to stucco over Densglass sheathing.
Densglass is stuccoed the exact same as raw plywood.
Or you can install wood siding over it.
The idea is to protect this sheathing from the elements. Its pre-coated fiberglass mats on front and back surfaces provide strength and moisture resistance.

Remember, folks, if you have Dens-glass installed because of city requirements, you must treat it like plywood and lath and apply two coats of stucco.
Don’t be misled by those online who theoretically believe you can apply fiberglass mesh netting on all the joints or seams, then apply a water-resistant stucco acrylic finish, and you are done.
This is far from the truth.
If you do this, be repaired to remove it all in less than five years, plus remove all the interior installation sheetrock carpets due to mold work.
Or attach your waterproof membrane and attach wood siding to shield it from the weather and rain.
Here's a tip, use a Staple gun leg length that shoots at least 7/8 of the leg into the stud.
Make sure your gun staples are adjusted properly so that the staples don't rip the paper as Dens-Glass is soft.
I mention this because on Amazon there are staple guns that sell for about 100 to 350 dollars.

Do wide crown staples work to adhere lathe to dense glass where there is no plywood behind densgalss ?
They do indeed and are code. Here's a tip, use a Staple gun leg length that shoots at least 7/8 of the leg into the stud.

Makes me wonder. What is the preferred sheathing for a home built today? I’ve seen Zip used a lot in new construction but in areas with older homes and a poor economy they still put house wrap over Osb 🤷🏻♂️
Hello my friend, today code in the USA is plywood, you can use OSB, but naturally that is not as good as real plywood. Some older homes have redwood siding which was placed on the studs from when it was built. This redwood siding is even stronger than the plywood that has been code for the last 40 years. When I started there was no siding just studs. lol
I made a hole on the interior of my wall to fix a faucet. It looks like the sheathing is just plain drywall no plywood.
Hey Chris, more than likely both, there are times when we are relaxed and other times we are hustling big time and simply stop what we’re doing to try and show something different. At this point we had already lathed all the walls except this one and it was the end of the day. Unfortunately, I'm no spring chicken.

attached to the studs are 1 by 6 planks running horrizantly every 8 inches I attached densglass to those 1by6 and hoping I can still blindnail the siding especially because I've already done 80 feet of wall

Teacher help me this wall does not need to carry stucco oh plaster. It will be that I can. leave it like this without plaster, I only cure the edges and joints and then I prime it and at the end the paint... could it be possible?

Kirk, thanks for the informative video. Just had this fiberglass sheathing installed on a rooftop room being built. Thinking of going with an Acrylic Stucco (based on your other videos). 2 Q’s, 1) can you apply Acrylic Stucco directly to this fiberglass (my construction manager seems to think so), or is some paper/water proof membrane recommended before? 2) I know you don’t like to mention products but given availability thinking of going with La Habra Perma Flex/Finish EIFS. Any thoughts or considerations on this product? Room will get lots of sun as I’m in San Diego. Many thanks in advance for your help 🙏🏻

Yes, LaHabas perma flex could be used as a finish coat after the lath and bascecoat.
Your construction manager is going to get you sued with his mistaken advise, he means well but is wrong, you cannot just use an acrylic over denglass, it will fail in less than 3 to 5 years and will have to be taken off, new studs and insaltion plus.........🤷♂️

@@Rishi.Rao. The stucco won't last for long onto the sheathing without insolation, it will start cracking and peeled off in a few years
Can u apply motar with a stone veneer without a mesh scratch coat? Or do u need to use a mesh with the denglass gold exterior sheathing
Good evening Lisa, no, the weather barrier still needs to be on top of the Dens-glass, as a rule, one must handle Densglass as they would plywood sheathing or any other substate. Two layers of 60-minute Paper and stucco netting wire then applied stucco.
It's best to apply a scratch coat then allow to set, then attach whatever stones you wish to uses with a tile setting grout or Stucco mortar, or even Poly Bond by La Habra.

You should use CertainTeed Glasroc Sheathing. Much better product

I just put Den's Glass on the side of my house, but I know nothing about stucco, though I bought all the bags to mix. Was wondering if you could help me out step by step on what I do when I just put the dance class up and I want to put stucco on there? Please help
Morning Raymond, you would apply stucco to the Densglass as if you were applying it over plywood, there are no shortcuts. Cheers.😏

There are guys online saying you can either paint it or apply just an acrylic over it, that's nonsense, which will cost a person perhaps only 20 K in repairs within 5 years if they're lucky.
If there was a shortcut, trust me brother I would know it.

How would you prep DensGlass when finishing with stone veneer?
Evening my friend, I would prep the dens-glass the same way we do plywood, first, the moister barrier, usually, two layers of Jumbo tex paper then stucco netting, lastly just a scratch coat, the scratch lines give the stone something to bo bond to.
FYI, When ready to attach the stones to the scratch coat wet the scratch coat, (first coat) to where it's moist, not dry or dripping wet.
We call it a mechanical bond.
Again, don't apply the second coat as it's not necessary and counter-productive.

how do you apply siding to a densglass wall ?
Hi Ben, easy peasy lemon squeezy, do as in this video we install lath,(paper and stucco netting) then stucco as usual, preperation is the same as if it's plywood sheathing.
If it's wood siding apply your membrane (waterproof paper) and attach whatever wood siding you wish,
Pretend like the densglass is regular plywood and prepare accordingly,
