    I like how you pointed out what minor imperfections there might be, which a customer likely will never notice, but you knew about. I'll definitely be checking out more of your stuff

    Strangely, this is like the most interesting construction video I’ve watched for probably a year

    AND says Always Vent Your Soffits !!

    Just came across this video, thanks. I’m currently doing this on a remodel. You briefly mentioned venting soffits even with sealed envelope. To clarify, this remodel has had spray foam insulation applied and the attic space is now sealed and independent from soffits. So you’re saying soffits should still have a vent even if the house has a 30” overhang that is basically an aesthetic box now with no exchange of air to the attic or anywhere else?

      The technical answer is no the venting is not necessary, but it is a good failsafe when it makes sense to do so. Failsafe from what you may ask…a tiny water leak.

    Awesome Doug, love it! Which mud did you use? Trying to do this myself. Thanks!

      Durabond 90 Exterior Joint Compound found locally at Ace Hardware stores.

    Did you cut holes for lights? Any issues cutting the fiberglass or lessons learned?

      Its almost exactly like cutting drywall

    Hey Doug,
    New builder here. I'm doing my research on some soffit detail options for a modern craftsman home. Can you let me know where I could source the same perforated soffit vent material you used in this build.

      I believe it was approximately 1/8” perforated aluminum. Metal suppliers carry it. You can have it ripped into strips or even folded (broken) if you like.

    So Doug if price neutral Re stucco why use dens glass?

    • @DesignBuildDoug
      @DesignBuildDoug  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Stucco is more costly (probably by 2x)

    When I saw the thumbnail, I thought you were gonna be skimming with like polyurethane air barrier joint filler or something…. using an elastic material for the joints, would perhaps provide some additional insurance against cracking when the sub structure is prone to movement (i.e involves wood outside conditioned space)

    • @DesignBuildDoug
      @DesignBuildDoug  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its just so hard to make an elastic material perfectly smooth, but I like the idea 💡

      You would want a sand-able caulking. The soffit in the video has held up exceptionally well, so the cracking potential really depends on the soil & foundation as well the the structural integrity of the frame.
